• If this is the essay I think it's about, you can find it online, and it's atrocious. She spouted a whole bunch of Bible nonsense instead of actual peer-reviewed research. And on top of that, the essay is written like I imagine an edgy middle-schooler would write. It's genuinely garbage.

Yes, this is about THAT fucking essay, there are not enough words in any language to decribe how ass that essay is.

It's not about describing the essay, it's about describing what is being done.

This is 100% a right-wing propaganda campaign. Just like Riley Gaines, they are trying to platform a narcissistic sore loser with an anti-trans agenda. And they are once again doing so by playing the victim and pretending they're the ones being persecuted for "free speech".

And sadly, it's most likely going to work. The right doesn't give a damn about facts. They only care about pushing lies to emotionally manipulate their voters. And for their voters, the only thing they care about is that people get hurt. They claim they care about taxes, grocery prices, protecting women, etc., etc., but anyone with half a brain can look at their taxes, their grocery bill, or the history of proven rape committed by their leader and see it's nothing but more lies to manipulate people to their side so that they can contribute to the harm of others. They don't care that the essay is a steaming pile of dogshit. They know 99% that those on their side won't even read it. And for the few that do, they won't even understand how it's hate passed as "opinion" and not something remotely suitable for an academic environment OR anything based on reality. I mean, these are the same people who believe the shit about Lia Thomas, including the "but her numbers as a male" when she spent the year swimming in the men's division while on hormone therapy. So her being in last actually proves that trans women aren't biologically the same as males. But 99% of the idiots out there (including leftists who believe this shit) don't look into the facts and instead regurgitate the right-wing emotional manipulations.

Her mother is a grifter who finds dipshit groups on Facebook and files spurious lawsuits on their behalf over things like Covid restrictions, none of which win, but she gets paid anyways. She also had a run at being mayor of her town, but had been operating a business illegally. The business? Real estate development while being registered as a Native American.

The TPUSA account for the school her daughter went to was recently created, with basically no activity until a week before this happened, when it made a post about a conservative student who was concerned their beliefs would cause them to get a bad grade. The student was unnamed in their post.

This whole thing was workshopped and planned as a means of riling up the dipshits to pay Kristi fulnecky to sue the school.

    Edit: fixed link

    Good catch. Fixed.

I didn't know if that was her name or a fat joke. Now that I see her name is actually full-necky and saw her picture I'm going to say it works as both.

Ha! I thought the same thing actually.

Good lord she was hit by the Joker Toxin.

The rotten apple didn't fall far from the tree...

And here I thought the right wing was against the whole "every child must pass" thing.

the only thing they care about is that people get hurt. They claim they care about taxes, grocery prices, protecting women, etc., etc.,

Already covered that. Nothing that they say they believe in is sincere. Ever. They will always do hypocritical things because their end goal is to cause harm, never to reduce it. They'll gladly bend their rules against participation trophies so long as it hurts queer people, women, Black people, Hispanic people, Jews, poor people, or anyone else non-white or "degenerate".

Not exactly. What they really care about is enriching the wealthy and sucking up more power for themselves and keeping the status quo. They hurt people because they know that despite everything they want clearly being bad for the common person, they can get their support if they just give them an enemy to rally against.

They have no morals, they will flip on every issue to get what they want

Ty for going into more detail here. I see a lot of folks who think this situation as just a bitchy student mad they got failed and not realize its another attempt to undermine a trans woman. This part should be talked about any time this gets brought up

The assignment was to write a 650-word reaction paper to a 2014 study called “Relations Among Gender Typicality, Peer Relations, and Mental Health During Early Adolescence.” The study looked at 84 middle schoolers and examined whether kids who don’t fit gender stereotypes - tomboys, boys who aren’t stereotypically masculine - get bullied more. It found that gender-atypical boys especially faced more teasing, and that this teasing was associated with worse mental health outcomes like depression and anxiety. That’s the whole thing. The study was asking whether kids who don’t fit neatly into “boys play sports, girls play with dolls” boxes get picked on, and whether getting picked on makes them depressed. The answer was yes. Not exactly radical territory. But Fulnecky apparently skimmed the abstract and saw the word “gender” and decided the whole thing was actually about transgender people trying to turn kids demonic. Her essay argued that gender teasing in schools is not a problem because God made men and women different on purpose.

She wrote that society pushing “the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be whatever they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth.” She prayed that children would “not believe the lies being spread from Satan.” Not a single engagement with the study’s methodology. Not a single mention of its actual findings about depression and anxiety in bullied kids. Not a single counter-argument to the researchers’ data. Just vibes about how Satan wants kids to be different genders and God’s plan involves letting gender-nonconforming eleven-year-olds get teased. The grading rubric was straightforward: 10 points for demonstrating a “clear tie-in to the assigned article,” 10 points for a “thoughtful reaction or response to the article, rather than a summary,” and 5 points for clear writing. She met none of these criteria. She didn’t respond to the article. She responded to an imaginary article about transgender ideology that existed only in her head.

And the whole conservative persecution narrative falls apart even faster when you look at who’s running this show. Her mother is Kristi Fulnecky, a Missouri attorney who defended January 6 rioters, filed lawsuits against mask mandates, and had such a contentious tenure on the Springfield City Council that the city spent nearly $100,000 on legal fees dealing with her eligibility fight after she operated a business without a license for seven years. One city attorney accused her of “grandstanding.” Kristi posted on Facebook that her daughter was “a warrior for Christ” and helped her daughter decide who to take her complaints to. This is a manufactured controversy.

The formula is simple: find a culture war angle, refuse to do the actual assignment, cry discrimination when the grade reflects the work quality, and then watch the right-wing media ecosystem do the rest. Oklahoma University, spooked by political pressure, put the graduate teaching assistant on administrative leave and assured Fulnecky the zero won’t affect her grade. The TA who graded the paper, Mel Curth, had recently won the OU Department of Psychology’s Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Curth wrote in feedback that the essay “does not answer the questions for this assignment, contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive.” A second instructor for the course agreed with the grade. But sure, religious persecution.

The most absurd part is that if Fulnecky had actually read the article she was supposed to respond to, she could have written a perfectly decent conservative take. She could have argued that the study’s sample size was too small. She could have questioned the methodology. She could have pushed back on whether “gender typicality” is a useful construct. She could have engaged with the actual research and offered her own interpretation. Instead, she turned in a sermon about demonic lies and Satan, got exactly the grade that kind of work deserves in a psychology class, and discovered that victimhood is a much faster path to conservative stardom than scholarship ever could be. The study, by the way, concluded that kids shouldn’t be bullied for being different, and that bullying has mental health consequences. Radical stuff. (~Synopsis from Rachel Hurley)

And for your viewing pleasure - and to experience the writing of a 12-year-old mind in a MAGA 20-year-old body - here is the essay:

This article was very thought provoking and caused me to thoroughly evaluate the idea of gender and the role it plays in our society. The article discussed peers using teasing as a way to enforce gender norms. I do not necessarily see this as a problem. God made male and female and made us differently from each other on purpose and for a purpose. God is very intentional with what He makes, and I believe trying to change that would only do more harm. Gender roles and tendencies should not be considered “stereotypes”. Women naturally want to do womanly things because God created us with those womanly desires in our hearts. The same goes for men. God created men in the image of His courage and strength, and He created women in the image of His beauty. He intentionally created women differently than men and we should live our lives with that in mind.

It is frustrating to me when I read articles like this and discussion posts from my classmates of so many people trying to conform to the same mundane opinion, so they do not step on people’s toes. I think that is a cowardly and insincere way to live. It is important to use the freedom of speech we have been given in this country, and I personally believe that eliminating gender in our society would be detrimental, as it pulls us farther from God’s original plan for humans. It is perfectly normal for kids to follow gender “stereotypes” because that is how God made us. The reason so many girls want to feel womanly and care for others in a motherly way is not because they feel pressured to fit into social norms. It is because God created and chose them to reflect His beauty and His compassion in that way. In Genesis, God says that it is not good for man to be alone, so He created a helper for man (which is a woman). Many people assume the word “helper” in this context to be condescending and offensive to women. However, the original word in Hebrew is “ezer kenegdo” and that directly translates to “helper equal to”. Additionally, God describes Himself in the Bible using “ezer kenegdo”, or “helper”, and He describes His Holy Spirit as our Helper as well. This shows the importance God places on the role of the helper (women’s roles). God does not view women as less significant than men. He created us with such intentionally and care and He made women in his image of being a helper, and in the image of His beauty. If leaning into that role means I am “following gender stereotypes” then I am happy to be following a stereotype that aligns with the gifts and abilities God gave me as a woman.

I do not think men and women are pressured to be more masculine or feminine. I strongly disagree with the idea from the article that encouraging acceptance of diverse gender expressions could improve students’ confidence. Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be whatever they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth. I do not want kids to be teased or bullied in school. However, pushing the lie that everyone has their own truth and everyone can do whatever they want and be whoever they want is not biblical whatsoever. The Bible says that our lives are not our own but that our lives and bodies belong to the Lord for His glory. I live my life based on this truth and firmly believe that there would be less gender issues and insecurities in children if they were raised knowing that they do not belong to themselves, but they belong to the Lord.

Overall, reading articles such as this one encourage me to one day raise my children knowing that they have a Heavenly Father who loves them and cherishes them deeply and that having their identity firmly rooted in who He is will give them the satisfaction and acceptance that the world can never provide for them. My prayer for the world and specifically for American society and youth is that they would not believe the lies being spread from Satan that make them believe they are better off as another gender than what God made them. I pray that they feel God’s love and acceptance as who He originally created them to be.

Holy shit, that essay was so bad I almost down voted your comment without thinking out of pure reactionary disgust

LMAO. that is too funny! But you are right, it is insanely bad!

The university is the biggest piece of garbage in this heap. Putting the graduate instructor on leave will erode all trust the faculty has in their ability to actually run their classrooms and assignments. If someone can just stir up nonsense over something this cut and dry, what is to stop it from happening over virtually anything else? It's absurd, and frankly the exact outcome that the fascist pieces of trash want, because they hate education and the educated more than anything else.

You heard it here first, folks, there is only one gender. No such thing as men and women. No more teaching the "lie of multiple genders".

People need to understand that "Free Speech" doesn't mean what most these people think it means.

Free speech refers to the ability for citizens to speak against the government without prosecution. It doesn't not mean you can say anything you want to anyone without repercussions.

Free speech doesn't really exist, you pay for everything you say.

Yeah, it's the right wing doing their best to do their version of Rosa Parks.

Rosa Parks got on the bus and refused to move intentionally to create a public issue, it was plotted and planned.  This girl is doing the same thing, only  Parks had a legitimate reason and this girls is just flapping her arms crying "unfair" when there's nothing unfair about it.

I’m pretty sure the instructor did more analysis in her grading comments than that girl did in her original essay 💀

Lots of “I think”, which has no place in a college essay.

Particularly if the “I thinks” are unsubstantiated by actual data or vetted research findings. We ALL have thoughts so who cares about what some college student “thinks” about anything if it’s not supported by facts. The purpose of college exercises like these is to teach you HOW to think and not to give you a platform to tell the prof WHAT you think.

Even if your thoughts are backed up by data or facts, using "I think" in a sentence is not how you write a college essay or an academic paper. That phrase alone should significantly lower her grade.

    Straight CHEEKS 🍑

Also, not actually sourcing the Bible. Which is like, the Bible is basically made to be sourced.

There's a video of a theology scholar critiquing the paper and pointing out it isn't a good theology paper either.

Most importantly it doesn't engage with the text it is supposed to be engaging with.

It's like if you were supposed to write a short biology about a frog's life cycle but instead wrote about how you don't like frogs.

The TA feedback even emphasizes that the assignment was not to agree with the article, just to respond to it with proper methodology.

Oh yeah she had a doctorate in Divinity or something right? It was an objectly bad paper.

If the student cited things correctly she still would have failed but it would have made her case WAY stronger than turning in a crayon drawing.

I believe the student's mother is the leader of one of those book banning groups.

Who likes frogs? They're dirty, stink of garlic and I swear that the French car industry is their revenge for Waterloo!

/s and petty "little Englander" impression

Sorry which chapter are you referring to? MF I can give you chapter verse line word AND translation.

I give you 10 to 1 the aping little church goer doesn’t even know it’s not originally in English

Its actually the opposite issue. Her entire argument (to a question the prompt never asked btw) hinges on the rigid definition of a Hebrew word that scholars can't even agree on but definitely do agree that she's wrong about

So I don't have to dive into this specific thing what's the hebrew word because that part I do want to learn.

If I had to take a guess, I'm assuming it's the word that is interpreted to mean "homosexual".

it was the word used to describe women as "helpers" that she discussed in the paper. she was arguing against womens rights and trans rights, not so much gay rights. the paper itself is complete slop and would be failed at any reputable institution

I love learning about theology and stuff like that is there a reference or some further reading I can do that you recommend

Not on topic but that isn't used in the bible. The argument is on the words boy/man. Some say it is man shall not lay with a man and others say it is man shall not lay with a boy. So is it against homosexuality or pedophilia.

And the distinction is because "man shall not lay with man" in the original text/language does not use the same word for 'man' in both instances.

I think this is the root of the problem. Every “real” Christian has told me it’s all about interpretation and each are entitled to to their interpretation. So she’s technically correct, which is the only correct that matters /s

I mean yeah on the religious sense, not on the fucking academic one.

Duh it was written in Angelic.

    Subtle but hilarious joke

Wait, it wasn’t originally written in English? I thought King James wrote it /s

Probably doesn’t realize the King James Bible is a flowery translation from the 16th century, either.

What? I don't understand your question. I said that she didn't actually source the Bible.

I think that was a more a rhetorical question

At the very least cite your sources...f***, Im an undergrad & this is college writing 101..she did none of that!

So my counter argument to all this: The bible says Eve was made from a rib of Adam.

    So, y'know, same genetic material.

Eve was the OG trans woman.

My god, the "IT'S ADAM AND EVE, NOT ADAM AND STEVE!" crowd weren't being prejudiced at all! They just didn't want us to deadname anyone!

I completely misjudged them; they are tolerant after all!

Ok I know the entire premise is nonsense but technically Jesus couldn't have inherited a y chromosome if they go by Mary being a virgin

Hmm, fair point. But then you've the opposite. Adam was the OG trans man, and then between Lilith and Eve there were no 'XY'.

    Oooh very good.

Ari Shaffir says god made Eve so Adam would stop fucking all the animals. He went to some kind of bible school so he knows the stuff pretty well.

Honestly, send that shit to her high school and have them take back her certificate.

If she went to a high school in Oklahoma, she was probably valedictorian compared to the other drooling idiots in her class.

By that logic she should never try to get rid of the cancer because god gave it to her.

Like im sure those people will respond "It was a test from god", wich to that i respond:

Like the logic "The gender god made them" is so dumb, by their logic they should accept "God made them a woman, but they gave them a man's body as a test"

And also, the unmitigated gall to write that for your trans professor.

"He created us with such intentionally and care" this is what a stroke must feel like

That's the thing, if she actually quoted and cited the bible, she might have actually gotten a passing grade. Instead she simply put "God said" or "I believe" a dozen different times followed by what can only be interpreted as her own opinion. It was directly explained to her that that was why she got a 0.

But conservatives don't care, if you tell them to their face that 2+2 does not equal Jesus, they'll cry religious persecution, in the hopes they can use it as leverage to intimidate people into silence.

The main thing I learned in college is that as long as I followed the rubric I would get a fair grade, even if I didn't agree with the premise of the assignment. My professors weren't always happy with my take on certain things but they never graded me unfairly.

Wow, that was some of the most irritating shit I've ever had to read. I'm not sure what makes me more angry, the stupid essay itself, or her instructor's extremely reasonable grade and comments that led to their dismissal as soon as this idiot girl cried about not getting her way.

This student's mother is an attorney for J6 rioters. It was the plan to fail the assignment and then cry, "but muh free speech!" She chose the class specifically because the TA is trans. She got the idea from her school's Toilet Paper USA chapter. The instructor must have recognized the grift which explains the comments.

We need to start being MORE mean to these dumbfuck MAGA conservatives. We're supposed to pretend like their opinions and values are valid, when most of the time they're barely literate imbeciles who can't string together a coherent argument? Yea fuck that.

Homie I can’t thank you enough

    So basically MAGA dogshit output

I’ve read that the student’s mom was a Jan 6 lawyer, defending the terrorist trying to overthrow our government. It’s just a grift for fame.

There are a total of TWO SENTENCES that address the assigned topic. The rest is religious rambling, not actually citing anything. Want to waste time watching someone interesting talk about it? https://youtu.be/xTxFSCKNAQU

Hint: when he pulls in another guy to talk with, skip past that whole thing. It’s too long.

Also to make a point here, there is a trans TA iirc that was part of the grading process that was the ONLY one put on admin leave.

Do not get this twisted, this is targetted and part of their plan. "Trans woman staff worker fails good christian 'real' woman for exercising her free speech" is how theyre gonna play this shit.

This being targeted must be addressed when talking about this because this is exactly how theyre underminding trans folk (esp women) going about their daily lives

    So much for "meritocracy" 🍊

It also didn't meet the length requirement.

Oh heck. I remember those. Student also believed no one was fit to judge except a Christian man. Excluding gay ones. So that was it. We didn’t have a lecturer in the subject who could mark the essay.

She didn't even quote/cite a Bible. She opined on a Bible (she couldn't be bothered to mention which one.) In her psychology class. As a junior. And she called human beings demonic.

For this assignment, she didn't even need to cite peer reviewed sources. She just had to RESPOND TO THE ASSIGNED ED READING! She couldn't even do that. There is literally a single sentence that references part of the study she is responding to. The rest is just spewing stuff about God and trans people to meet a word count. But here's the kicker, the piece she is responding to ISNT EVEN ABOUT TRANS PEOPLE! Its about if Cis kids are bullied or socially rewarded based on how closely they conform to gender stereotypes.

I promise you even at a tiny not very good Catholic school in Texas in fourth grade I still saw better essays than that. I definitely watched people turn in more convincing book reports over books they did not read then whatever the hell the nonsense this girl turned in

I saw a video of a theology prof have a good at grading it and even she couldn't give it a passing grade because the Bible portions were wrong and the writing just so below college level

If this is that essay then there’s some important info that should be in the post, or the comment, or the other comment, or the title.

She didn’t even cite the Bible appropriately.

  • I still feel horrible for that teacher.

This is definitely a case were teacher sues the student.

Tortious interference in employment (she's trying to get him fired by making false statements to his employer)

Defamation (she's stating he's discriminating against her for religious reasons)

Fraud (she used AI to write the "paper" after telling it to fill in various biblical ideas), AND her scummy ambulance chaser mother so appears to have written significant parts of it.

Intentional infliction of Emotional Distress (obviously)

    Verbal assault.

Yeah, now is definitely the time for the teacher to go after little girly AND her mom. Minimum 6 figures.

    Minimum 6 figures

Add at least one more zero there to take into account the threats of violence that they will have to deal with if they do file the lawsuit.

    60 figures???

    Yes. $100,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.

    Minimum

    70 figures?? 80??

    Why stop at 80?

    EIGHTY-ONE FIGURES!!!1!1oneone!!one

    Yep.

Every single time someone tries to use the law to punish the right wing, they're immediately attacked

It’s the only thing that will make this go away and help her understand why she should have NEVER done this. She may end up being some right wing leader like many entitled idiots do, but this has no place in the classroom. Take this crap to a MAGA rally or a Turning Point convention.

I have seen a video going through the essay saying this entire was probably her ticket to a job at Turning Point.

Like the entire thing being deliberate.

A public display of unfathomable stupidity is an air tight recruitment strategy

    The best and brightes............oh yeah.

It’s a great strategy they live for that kind of attention seeking stupidity.

    100%.

This wasn't an essay for a course assignment, it was a job application for some InfoWars-adjacent grift.

It was so obviously, from its conception, a grift for a CPAC keynote. If it was like 7 years ago I'd imagine even the dipshits at CPAC who decide which grifter keynotes would be embarrassed to fall for it, but in all honesty, she'll probably show up there, mumble some addled shit through her latest round of lip fillers, and absolutely bring the house down.

You'd think that they would at least want to have people who can appear to be articulate and intelligent representing their movement, but nope. They love to drop Nazi dogwhistles about the superiority of Western civilization and white people being innately superior but their representatives always seem to come from the "my family tree is actually a wreath" ilk.

Kyle Rittenhouse wasn't a stone cold ubermensch, he's a flabby public bawler with the jawline of a child with Turner Syndrome.

Charlie Kirk wasn't an intellectual mastermind who wielded his IQ like a mighty blade. He was a grown ass adult with upper case gums and lower case teeth who lurked on college campuses and made heavily edited videos where he talked incoherently over college students in an effort to look like he was scoring some kind of ideological victory. He wasn't winning arguments, he was just talking over people like a loud edgy middle school boy with poorly medicated ADHD who can't shut the fuck up about Fortnite.

This woman isn't some Christian scholar out there owning the heathen libs with flawless logic. They're acting like she just put out the second coming of the 99 Theses, like she's on par with Erasmus. But the reality is that her English comprehension and composition skills are far more at home in a 4th grade classroom than an undergraduate course. I have graded assignments from undergraduates when I had a teaching assistantship during my master's program and I literally saw better stuff coming out of students who I suspected had mild intellectual disabilities. I'm not even trying to say this as an insult, I'm saying that the kids in my intro classes who probably should have been in some kind of specialized remedial program still had a better grasp of how to draw logical conclusions from available data than she did. They might have drawn the wrong conclusions, but they at least justified their conclusions with data instead of opinions.

If that essay was a sample of her intellectual capacity, she should never have been admitted into an R1 university like OU. Not everyone belongs in college. That's nothing to be ashamed of, there are plenty of lucrative and respectable careers which don't require an undergraduate degree. But she is squandering the educational opportunity that could have been afforded to an actual qualified student. Ironically, she's actually a great example of what conservatives think DEI beneficiaries are.

To be clear, the teacher uses she/they pronouns

Its wild they misgendered the victim in this

Wait what? She used ai to write that absolute dogshit AND her mother was involved? IT WAS 600 WORDS!!! And then she still sued her teacher for giving her an appropriate grade?

She should honestly be preemptively barred from any educational facility that receives public funding.

That ambulance chaser mother is a J6 attorney. Mom and student knew exactly what they were doing when they started this fiasco.

She’s so bad at writing and religion that she will get a Whitehouse job. I’d say Dept of Education but they gutted it.

She's on deck for when KKKaroline finally loses her shit so much, they have to get rid of her.

Oh god, dont even joke about that.

    It wasn't a joke.

She can wrestle for the McMahons

This wasn't a college assignment so much as an application for a White House staffer position or some kind of slot on an alt-right media network.

  • I went to a Jesuit university. They would have obliterated her over her work, and she'd have no leg to stand on because they were priests, nuns, and devoted theologians.

We weren't even allowed to use the Bible as a source. We could only reference parts for our papers but use peer reviewed research to make our arguments. And we still used proper citation for the Bible.

Also, even the chapter of College Republicans aren't on her side.

I went to a religious college prep high school and I came here to say just that.

I attended a Quaker prep school for 12 years, same thing. The only time the Bible came up was in European history classes when we were discussing the birth of the Anglican church or in middle school social studies during the world religions unit.

The Jesuits have a long history of legitimate scholarship. There are a lot of actual religious scholars who had intellectual chops and gravitas.

She is not in that league. She's not even in the club league. She's in the kindergarten recess t-ball group compared to those theologians.

Conservatives are acting like this idiot is the second coming of Erasmus when she's more like the person Erasmus would hire to clean the ink stains out of his robes.

It's about suppressing any dissent. Her mother is a Jan 6 lawyer.

This is the confederacy married with christian nationalism.

Yeah, this isn't even just a poor student getting a bad grade. This is fascist propaganda, "I'm being silenced for my beliefs!"

She did literally everything wrong on purpose, to get a 0 on purpose, so she could cry to far right media and especially social media and get fame and fortune out of it. It's an attack on transgender people for her own gain. Christian Nationalist grifting.

Wait, did you have to cite the Bible the same way as you would a scientific paper or was there a certain standard citation guide that goes above the "Genesis 1:26" standard? (Sorry if that sounds ignorant, have never written anything at university level or on Monotheism)

    That's what I was wondering.

Because normally I'd cite the author and published year, as you do...but you can't do that for religious texts.

I'm sure there's gotta be a standard guide somewhere, depending on style (APA, MLA etc.).

Yeah, there's some special exceptions to how you cite the Bible. The most notable one I remember is that the normal limit for how many times you were allowed to reference the same work in one paper was waived; turns out in theology, you might have to reference the Bible quite a lot.

But you'd still give chapter, verse, translation and edition.

    usually it's Book part:line-line, Translation

    example: Revelation 13:13-15, NIV

Doubt these people she's appeasing believe that Catholics are Christian

Right, I think the point was she was supposed to write a cited essay with actual sourced info to support your opinion and it read like a creative writing assignment of her opinion on gender studies. Now, had she understood the assignment and the instructor had given her a zero only because her opinion was against the instructors, then I would 100% support the instructor being fired, but that wasn’t the case here.

As a conservative myself, I can absolutely say that there is information available out there that can be cited and sourced that would have supported her argument. She was just lazy, did this shit last minute and wrote some trash that was 100% just off the top of her mind. Now, I’ve seen some people say it was due to use of AI, however that’s not true. AI alone could write a way better essay on the topic than the slop she turned in. I don’t support bullshit like this because it’s lazy and stupid and gives conservatives a bad image.

Conservatives give themselves a bad image by doing exactly the kind of self-serving, disingenuous bullshit this thread is about.

  • I guess "merit-based" evaluation doesn't apply to her. She deserves her participation mark - maybe a FIFA peace prize.

Maybe FIFA should award her her diploma, too

  • It really is just that easy to become a right wing grifter, huh?

Easiest path to wealth and influence by far. Right-wingers are fundamentally stupid and so easy to manipulate.

There are days I regret have what little self respect I have, thinking of how easily I could make bank off those morons

Same. If I didn’t have morals, I could be right wing grifting influencer who doesn’t have to work lol.

There’s always the dignified way, feet pics.

If you've got the support base or physical appeal for it, you just feign injury and point fingers at the party they hate.

Congratulations, you've been accepted into the group.

Tie for 5th place to a trans woman, and make a career out of how trans women have an insurmountable advantage in sports and should be thus banned from existing at all.

Tied for 5th, with four cis women ahead of them both.

Although my favorite one so far is the woman who came in third in a skateboarding competition and talked about how the trans woman that took second place had an unfair advantage. It’s my favorite because the winner was a 13 year old cis girl.

The same people who complain about participation trophies.

    It's exhausting.

Be clearly and obviously wrong on purpose as a way to attack a minority group, usually women, especially with a conspiracy theory edge attack against Jewish people, and then when people call you out on it claim that you're "being silenced for your beliefs."

    Rake in millions.

  • I'm sure the paper was intentionally written horribly to ensure an F so she could launch her grifting career. Her mom, the POS that she is, likely came up with the idea and is coaching her.

Disgusting and pathetic to try to wrongfully ruin someone's career just to line your own pockets.

I struggle with how intentionally badly it was written. I've seen some people with horrible writing skills get much further than they should. And don't get me wrong, it's dogshit awful. But I can totally believe someone dodging their way through school without learning how to write something even remotely academic.

I’ve written better papers while wine drunk. Know how I know? I got A’s. These papers were the sort that also were far longer AND had citations galore.

Seriously, just follow the directions it's not that difficult.

I just looked at the directions which in a nutshell is "React to this paper. Use 650 words, cite back what you're reacting to, make it coherent." Which she failed at on all 3 counts

    Name checks out.

Apparently the girls mom is a trump lawyer

She writes at the retarded level MAGA thinks colleges operate at.

Tbh it pisses me off so much when people are covering this story, they are for some reason missing this part. The essey is shit on purpous, that woman wrote it this way to target a trans woman as a core of her grift. Yes u can prove that the essey was shot, but the right will not care. Because the real core of the story is an excuse for them to be transphobic. To pretend they are a victim. It could have been a written test as well or a group project. The main part of the story is who she fucking targeted. But for some ungodly reason, no one seams to care.

  • As my grandparents would say, she was the sort of girl who went to college to get an MRS

$15 says she marries some age-inappropriate closet case alt right grifter with a moderate social media presence within the next 4 years.

  • Right wing voices are just mediocre people. D-list actors, 5th place athletes and incel podcasters. MAGA won't even use musicians that support them in their propaganda videos. I mean, you don't think Kid Rock and Jason Aldean wouldn't want their music played in the background of a mom being dragged out of her car in front of a preschool?

    Edit* "car"

The problem is that they’re supported by MAGA, who are completely delusional and view these losers as being brilliant and talented.

She is an unnecessary existence. We already have like 30 million of her in America.

Benny Shap's "True Allegiance" is such a great example of this. It's a pile of racism and nonsense dressed up as the lamest and most self-unaware parody of a... thriller, I think?

Ding-dongs like him dog whistle all day about "saving Western civilization" from supposed non-white mediocrity, meanwhile my shitposts on Reddit are somehow more grammatically correct.

  • Hopefully she gets ridiculed everywhere on campus and she leaves the university.

Counterpoint: they are warming her office right now at TPUSA.

She’ll be getting $15K speaking fees, alongside noted fifth place finisher Riley Gaines.

To be absolutely fair: at least Riley Gaines finished.

This chick can't even say that.

  • The great irony is that the bible may be the most easily citable book in the history of books. In some editions (most editions?) every single book, chapter, verse, and sentence is individually numbered with inline subscripts. It doesn’t get any easier than that.

Homegirl’s paper wasn’t even up to elementary school standards.

  • Christian lunatics demand their nonsense to be equal with real science

For real. These people are legitimately insane. Long term religious psychosis?

My plate of spaghetti told me that the cure to cancer is drinking Windex. I demand my research be published!

  • Yeah, honestly altruism aside if the school were to cave to this bullshit it devalues every degree coming out of that college, because how is any employer to assume that a graduate of the university is literate?

Which is sad, because OU does have some legitimately excellent academic departments. I'm not familiar with all their departments, but their earth and atmospheric sciences departments are quite well regarded. Their meteorology program is one of the most prestigious in the country - a lot of landmark weather science has come out of OU. And their geology department is highly regarded and basically a recruiting ground for the petroleum industry.

A lot of current students are actively looking to change schools and demand refunds over this. Even alumni are demanding refunds since this politically-motivated stunt significantly devalues the degrees they worked hard for.

  • The eternal fight against intellectualism.

They (the church/the rich/the oligarchs) do not want us to be thinking. We could understand that everything that is happening is bad for us.

And then, we could stop being complacent.

  • That is ridiculous that a teacher is put on leave for grading accurately. That does seem to be an issue in higher education; in elementary, they’re making us use new cut scores that say 4/6 is failing.

  • Hope the instructor gets hired by a serious university. Edit typo.

  • And then defends her shitty writing by saying, I'm going to be a doctor so I don't need to know how to write. I'm over here thinking, girl, I'm not sure you understand your profession very well.

  • University of Oklahoma is an oxymoron

  • The true power of bad writing: causing mass protests and almost ruining careers.

Wait till you see what happens when someone's a shitty painter.

  • Unfortunately I live in the state this is happening in, and a lot of people are genuinely on the girl's side. Even our own governor (who we already have enough issues with) said that it was an issue about freedom of speech. I wish I could say people will eventually see reason, but most of the state is unfortunately crimson red with some blue here and there...

Freedom of speech?? It's a mf college assignment with a rubric and prompt😭 yeah write whatever tf you want, doesnt mean you deserve a good grade and a fair use of freedom of speech

Yeah, it's stupid. This happens anytime someone here thinks that their beliefs are being attacked when they face consequences for their actions... More than once.

Thank you!! Freedom of speech means you can’t go to jail for stating an obtuse and bigoted opinion, you can absolutely fail a school paper for stating an obtuse and bigoted opinion, particularly when it’s not relevant to the assignment.

These bozos like to ignore the fact that freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from consequences.

She is absolutely free to say what she said in her essay. The consequence is that she failed the assignment. She's not getting persecuted by the government for what she said, she won't be thrown in prison. She just isn't getting an automatic A for inferior work.

  • she should be expelled, and I think this was a MAGA set up - she volunteered since MAGA's hate trans, gay, old people, you name it. Teacher should be held up as a person of integrity.

  • If it is known that people can pass at your university while submitting absolutely garbage papers then that affects the value of your own diploma. They absolutely should protest.

  • In a way, she's threatening all these people's hard earned degrees as well. Bound to be employers that will, when faced with two equally viable candidates with degrees from different colleges, choose the non OU-grad out of concern that they might have earned their degree despite shoddy work.

  • If I knew I could get out of a whole courseload of work by just slapping a Bible on the professor's desk, putting my hands on my hips and asking "where's my A+?" I'd convert right fuckin' now.

  • The person who wrote that essay was paid to do so by TPUSA. This is all just another stupid political attack by facists on education

  • The thing that grates me the most about this is that she was failed not only because the Bible isn't a valid source of evidence but she didn't even technically cite the Bible like Fox etc. keep claiming.

If this were a religion class where everyone is expecting to cite religious texts, she'd still have failed because she didn't actually cite the Bible properly, anywhere. (That I could see, from what I've read of her paper.)

Saying "I believe this because that's what the Bible says" isn't a citation.

That's what's pissing me off, because if this had been any text besides the Bible, nobody would be arguing about the failing grade.

  • She claims she got 100% on all her other work so far. I hope all those papers get reviewed for accurate grading too

She claims she got 100% on all her other work so far

    LOL what a lie

I used to be an English teacher. Even disregarding the lack of correct citations, there's absolutely no way a paper of this quality would ever get 100%. Not even close.

  • "Shits a bowl of alphabet soup" is such a killer diss

  • Thank you

Society pushing the lie that there are multiple genders and everyone should be whatever they want to be is demonic and severely harms American youth.

    lol

  • Fuck the mom for being a failed politician and Jan. 6 defender clinging onto media relevance. Fuck the daughter and terrible student for going along with her plot.

  • I went to religious high school and we would not get a passing grade writing her paper.

  • I’m glad that even conservatives don’t seem to like her. We don’t need another grifter.

  • Obviously this was just a ploy to get a "scandal" that ticks all the right wing boxes, but that comment at the bottom is true for those students.

Your degree is just a piece of paper with a school's name on it. The value of that piece of paper depends heavily on that name's reputation. If suddenly Oklahoma is known as the school that caves to crazy people everyone who graduated from there will see their degree devalued.

  • But how the fuck is an educator put on leave when a student's submission fully fails to achieve academic standards?

I get that it's fundi-land Oklahoma, but still...the paper is shit. In no way whatsoever should the teacher face consequence and damn the admin for even going there.

The TA is a trans woman, it's because of transphobia she got put on leave.

  • Also, the university's tpusa chapter and this student (who is a goddamn grad student and knows perfectly well how to write and cite an essay properly) seem to have coordinated a campaign against a trans t/a with the explicit goal of getting them fired or otherwise causing trouble for them? This is about making trans people disappear from academia and public life in general. This student is trying to become the riley gaines of academia. It's even worse, maybe because this seems calculated and contrived from the start. Whereas gaines just isnt quite as fast of a swimmer as she thinks she should be. Either way, to hell with the both of them!

  • On God, I've seen drunk texts with more literary finesse than that "essay"

  • Christian MAGA version of DEI is that they should have passing grades even when making garbage homework.

  • Pretty obvious that students family out a lot of money into that school and tried to pull strings

  • The administrator who actually ok'd the disciplinary review or action needs to be investigated and likely dismissed.

There was NO evidence in support of that decision. I wonder if that person had a political bias?

  • The essay is online and ridiculously short with nonsensical word soup that only "quotes" bible bullshit. That 0 was WELL earned.

  • If I were a student there I would be upset too. I've heard so many people doubt the quality of a degree from OU since this happened.

  • The actual essay, which I’ve read, is •not• up to standard. As in, it might have been •irresponsible• for the instructor to give a passing grade.

If you love god so much, lady, use the best gift he ever gave you (your brain) to write something •worth• a passing grade.

  • No citations is immediately a 0 in MANY universities. I guarantee if she would’ve used citations she would’ve received at least partial credit.

  • The essays were graded out of 25 points, broken down by whether the student demonstrated an understanding of the article and addressed a specific aspect of the argument put forth. Fulnecky received zero points for her work.

"Please note that I am not deducting points because you have certain beliefs," the instructor wrote in feedback obtained by The Oklahoman. Instead, the instructor said the paper did "not answer the questions for the assignment."

The paper "contradicts itself, heavily uses personal ideology over empirical evidence in a scientific class, and is at times offensive" the criticism went on.

Professors reponse was completely on point. https://abc7chicago.com/post/university-oklahoma-instructor-leave-issuing-grade-samantha-fulnecky-essay-gender-norms-referencing-bible/18253620/
