We received an official warning from Reddit that there has been an increase in the number of posts glorifying violence. We're putting a tight grip and partial lockdown the subreddit for a short while to get a hold on the Charlie Kirk posts and situation.
Reminder that all posts glorifying violence from either side are against subreddit and sitewide rules and can lead to users being banned, and if not dealt with can lead to the subreddit being shut down.
Also - most of the moderator team are not based in the US and don't care about US politics, please don't try and make this into a partisan political issue, we're trying not to have the subreddit be shut down. We've already been warned by Reddit.
There was also a school shooting today btw!
There were 2 actually
Oh shit fr?
[removed]
Republicans had just passed a bill to allow open carry on that campus.
Where were the “good guys with guns” when Charlie got shot? All I saw was a bunch of people scrambling for cover.
Don’t forget the ones that were stealing merch before they ran.
Oh wow really?! Was it “the usual suspects”?
Scurrying off the roof apparently...
/s
You know exactly where the good guys with guns were.
Also stealing maga hats. Which I find HILARIOUS.
[removed]
I reckon the pen was mightier than the sword.
It's a bit like saying there was a bank robbery because someone pickpocketed my wallet in the lobby though.
Good analogy
First time maga cared about a school shooting
Where?
Evergreen, Colorado
There were nearly 40 other instances of gun violence yesterday.
This is horrifying. Seeing the amount of victims injured or killed compared to suspects is awful.
Do congress hold 1 minute of silence whenever there’s a school shooting?
Only if they're asked to vote on the epstein documents
If congress did this, they'd never speak again...
There’s the Epstein list btw!
Which they voted against releasing…again.
Well, the Senate did. The thing in the House is actually getting closer and closer to passing. Last I checked they just need one more yes vote.

I’m stealing this ty
No problem. I stole this as well. Cheers
“-We can’t allow the victims of gun violence to emotionally hijack the narrative”
“-Some deaths (from guns) are necessary to keep the 2nd amendment”
-Charlie Kirk
"You’ll never have zero gun deaths in a society with armed citizens—that’s nonsense. But I think it’s worth accepting some gun deaths each year to protect the Second Amendment and our other rights. That’s a rational deal."
– Charlie Kirk
“I can’t stand the word empathy actually. I think empathy is a made-up, New Age term that — it does a lot of damage, but it is very effective when it comes to politics,”
-also Charlie Kirk
"Death penalties should be public, should be quick, it should be televised. I think at a certain age, its an initiation...What age should you start to see public executions?"
-still Charlie Kirk
Posted for context so that people know how Charlie Kirk himself felt about situations like this.
Not even close to any of the major important takeaways from this event, but as someone who spent a lot of time with Foucault’s writings his take on the death penalty as spectacle is just gross and kind of relevant to the cruelty we see so often today. Foucault wrote that the state exercising power to discipline and punish capriciously and as spectacle (using the reign of terror as an example) is the definition of a weak state. The revolutionary state in France made beheadings an event because they needed to, not for entertainment. A measure of the stability and strength of a nation is how stable and quietly it can exercise its capacity to discipline and punish! Going “hey let’s make it a show again” is just a grotesque return to cruelty.
Not to distract from your (quite astute) point, but when you say "Foucault", are you talking about the pendulum guy?
No, that's Leon from the 19th century, I'm talking about Michel Foucault who was one of the biggest thinkers of the 20th century on the topic of state control and power versus knowledge and liberty and how those two opposing poles played out in the creation of the nation state in terms of social control and pressure.

Skeletor voice “Remember karma is only a bitch if you are.” “Until we meet again!”
Also, the chickens came home to roost and what goes around comes around
Careful there you might upset the powers that be
Well, to be fair, they upset me first.
I am in agreement about locking down the glorification of violence but quoting the victim is the opposite. Its honoring him with what he stood for and wanted.
Kirk got rich glorifying violence against Dems and inciting hate. He brought 80 busloads of terrorists to DC for Jan 6.
He was unalived doing what he loved -spreading mysogyny and protecting the 2nd A
He died as he lived: deflecting reasonable questions about gun violence
And racist dog whistles!
“We made a huge mistake when we passed the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s." -CK
That’s a loud whistle.
The funny part is. Just posting his quote that its ok for people to die. Gets removed from subs with kirks shooting post... like bro became the statistic and we cant point to his comments saying that statistic was ok for him
Yeah Reddit mods, release them immediately
I'll get right on that. Don't know how much effect I'll have from my mother's basement, but I'll give it a shot
Thank you for your service.
Thank his mother for her cervix too.
Is... is there a card for that?!?

I don't know but I'll go through my magic cards if someone can do yugioh?
Random trivia I learned - the word “cervix” comes from Latin and originally referred to the narrowing at the neck, or nape of the neck. When discussing the spine medical peeps refer to the three sections with shorthand CTL: cervical, lumbar and thoracic. Later it was applied to the uterus as it has a similar shape and function as a “connecting passage.” Speaking of the spine, JD Vance, for example, lacks one, which makes it easier for him to bend over to lick the boots of his master Donny.
Bravo to this segway
Epic segue!!
This comment has it all!
It has language. It has science. It has... social connections.
I knew we could rely on you.
Outside of the US, how common ARE basements? Nothing to do with politics, but very pertinent to Redditors lol
Australia here , can confirm no basements
Christ almighty! Can only imagine what horrific death-bringing creatures would be lurking in an Ozzie basement.
Why did it have to be snakes?
Snakes, why did it have to be snakes?
Ozzie’s basement was probably full of quaaludes and bats. May he rest in peace.
Coober Pedy is made of basements, everybody lives in them!
I had to look that up, and I found this little fact that cracked me up:
The town's name is derived from an Aboriginal term meaning "white men in holes"
telling it like it is!
Hahaha!
Wales here. All the basements I know of fill up with water, so we don't do them anymore
Australia - we dont do basements. Or attics either really.
I bet you have them, but all the spiders live there, so you pretend you don't.
Up north they literally put the houses on stilts, which I think is the technical opposite of a basement.
High rise basement.
Canada here. We have basements.
UK here, it depends on the geography and local climate. I live in the north of England, so the water table is very high from the incessant rain, meaning cellars (as we call them) are usually very damp even if you are one of the lucky few to have one. We all have lofts though (attics)
English houses generally do, but rare in newer builds from 1980ish. I have a cold shelf, coal chute and evidence of gas wall light fittings in mine.
And your parties are all in black and white?
Yup! House was built 1890ish. I keep imagining showing the original owners my fibre broadband and combi boiler. There's a fireplace in the bathroom.... because it was built as a bedroom.
I rent a house in Wisconsin built in 1890s as well and the basement is something out of a horror film. Lol stone walls and some big stone type well structure in the middle of it. At least I think it was some type of well. But I still love living here. Some features of the house are kind of cool. I was told it used to be a candy shop? But a couple times a year in the middle of the night I smell brownies being made. First few times I would go downstairs because I thought my kids were making brownies in the middle of the night only to find no one awake. Now I'm used to it. Lol👻

mods got this 💪
don’t forget to also dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge
And to secure, contain, protect.
I just watched that this weekend. What a classic.
They are mods - redact.
Poor choice of words...?
Don’t downplay her double wide basement…it could fit 2 Reddit moderators!
It's weird they haven't already
Probably some Reddit mods IN the files.
I think this is an important reminder to live your life in such away that people don't openly celebrate your death.....
It’s a great example of whitewashing after one’s death and how we should all be reminded the DEAD DONT FEEL ANY OF THE SHAME OR REVERENCE that comes at times like these.
Agreed
Gifs you can hear.
YES. Back to the regularly scheduled programming everyone. Stay focused.
Man I wish there was this much concern for the children being murdered in classrooms behind the scenes EVERY DAY.
Pretty sure it was established during sandy hook that childrens lives are expendable when it comes to the 2nd.
Don't forget Uvalde and Parkland where society decided police have no duty to help them.
BTW: A VIDEO WAS JUST RELEASED THAT CLEARS THE TEACHER OF PROPPING THE DOOR OPEN- ITS CLEAR SHE WAS THE 1ST TO CALL 911 AND ALERT OTHERS AS WELL AS CLEARLY KICKED THE ROCK OUT AND PULLED THE DOOR CLOSED.
[deleted]
As soon as Sandy Hook came and went, and nothing changed, I knew we were cooked. When it's perfectly acceptable for 20 elementary school children (and 6 adults) to be mowed down by an assault rifle, there is no floor for how low we can go.
[deleted]
Got got by his words
yOuRe gLoRiFyIng ViOleNcE!!¡!
Like Sandy Hook, this was a false flag operation and Charlie Kirk is a crisis actor. /s
You mean, the school shooting fourteen minutes later in Colorado that was just glossed over? Look it up, if folks haven't heard.
There was a school shooting in Colorado shortly after. 3 shot, 1 has died.
At least the one who died was the shooter.
Pretty sure I read that there was a school shooting happening literally around the same time he was shot too, give or take a few hours
This is the most disturbing thing for me. Everyone is losing their minds over this nobody getting shot but I've only read in comments that there was a school shooting the same day and I've seen 0 news about it. Insane.
Not a single post in the feed is about them in particular. Even the ones that happened today don't have the same exposure.
To add insult to injury I was alerted about ANOTHER school shooting in Colorado minutes before I got a warning that Charlie Kirk was struck.

Murdered by his own words you say
So Suicide!? case closed...
Well in a way he was murdered by a ricochet of his own words.
How come we never see these warnings when people celebrate the deaths of Dem politicians or Paul Pelosi getting hit with a hammer in the head?
You know why
you cant spell "spez sympathizes with nazis" without "spez"
Because those are just folks being funny, hyukyukyuk!

Reddit been handing out bans over the last few months to people calling out Repubs and the shit stains who vote for them.
The revolution will not be televised ahh website.
I know a few months ago I got an autoban for being reported a certain number of times. I think someone had a set of bot accounts to report you a ton if you said something that hurt their feelings
I avoid conservative subs so is this actually the case? I wasn't sure the hypocrisy was that overt if so.
To be fair, there are a lot of posts on Reddit celebrating violence and death, but there's a limit to how much they can look through the fingers with. When someone like Kirk, having made the sort of callous, pro-gun remarks he's famous for, gets taken out in public (in a school, no less)...
I personally find the whole situation morbidly hilarious, but I get why they have to do something. Not only would it be bad PR if Reddit ignores its own rules when it's this obvious, the current US administration isn't exactly big on free speech.
Not saying I don't see any hypocrisy, but I can understand the enlightened self-interest.
P.S. In this case, I don't think we need to celebrate anything. The best reactions I've seen are the ones that simply state facts, e.g. by posting quotes from Kirk that are relevant to the topic. I can't see how it would violate the rules to post direct quotes showing that the victim himself would have trivialised this if it happened to someone else, as long as you stop short of endorsing it (in other words, you should be safe if you're a better person than him).
Reddit has rape subreddits. They aren't protecting any image.
Forensic scientist here:
I’ve been looking over the evidence. At least what’s been made available publicly. Please keep that in mind , as without all the facts any conclusion is speculation, even from an experienced source.
As far as the facts of the shooting, one conclusion I can make with 100% certainty is they need to release the Epstein files.
Have you considered the muzzle velocity of the folder which the files are in? Or could be we're talking about a binder here? And if that's the case, is it a three ring binder???
We need answers
I’m a (former) deputy coroner. I’ve watched more than a handful of gory videos that show it happening from multiple angles and it’s very clear that Orange Julius Caesar is trying to distract us from the files because he’s in them.
Is it too soon to start talking about gun control? Not in the sense of "take all guns away", but as a "don't let unstable and dangerous people have guns".
AOC just did, so no.
The GOP already started talking about removing the right to carry a gun from trans people. Now they are at 0.1% of the end goal. Don’t know why you would start with trans people though, but it’s a start and they’re no longer at 0%.
Even the NRA came to bat for Trans rights about guns!
They're setting up to take guns from liberals and the left before they take guns from a wife abusing former cop. The right will abuse the power when it comes to limiting weapons. We all know it.
As was the case when black people started arming themselves for self defense. They're all for government overreach to control the outgroups

I was just thinking earlier that reddit janitors must be working unpaid overtime to ban every second comment for advocating violence.
Funny how when the shoes on the other foot, suddenly the threshold for advocating violence is dropped through the floor.
[removed]
And Facebook and Twitter could give a fuck. I reported a bunch of comments and they rejected every one.
Absolutely stop talking about him..focus on the school shooting instead..and the epstein files
Let’s focus on people who deserve our attention instead.
Yeah, where are the fucking Epstein files?
Trump-Epstein files*
Like Mr. Epstein Files

Since Charlie Kirk said that empathy is weak, he shouldn't even get that.
Peanut butter and jelly
thoughts and tariffs
something something good guy with a gun.
Didn't you hear? It's not a gun issue, it's the SSRI the person with the gun took, issue.
Yet somehow, nothing to do with the mental health crisis, the GOP is perpetuating by gutted social service programs.
P.S. obligatory fuck taco tits Trump
Lots of love
But Nancy Mace is making it into a partisan political issue... So yeah.
When isn’t she screeching “partisan issue?”
Release the Epstein files?
…weird for a sub with murder in the title, but anyways
Lol, oddly fair point.
Some may say a turning point?

"I cant stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a Made Up, new age term and it Deals a lot of damage." -Charlie Kirk
Being considerate about damage to people shows a lot of empathy ❤️
Define ‘glorifying’ please
Well posting the guys own words apparently. That's what most people are doing.

At it's core, conservatism works on the basis that there is an in-group who the law protects but does not bind, and and out-group who the law binds but does not protect.
Three guesses which side we sit on.
Bringing it up.
Saying it finally crossed his mind
Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein. Ghilly Maxwell. Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein. Jeffery Epstein.
Funny how it took a rich white mans death to bring down the anti violence hammer...
This is how free speech is limited. Chock doctrine and then quick action. The Dem lawmakers who were killed didn't even make a ripple. This is fucked.

US politics and media in general are rapidly becoming a shit load more violent (have been for a while but there is definitely a new tide rising). Yall mods are going to have a hell of a time for at least the next 4 or 5 years. Odds are longer.
lol you had me until “Most of the moderator team are not based in the US and don’t care about US politics”. Have the moderators seen any of the posts prior to today on this subreddit? And does that mean the political climate in other parts of the world shouldn’t be discussed here either then? Might as well shut it down anyway..
What about every single person glorifyingthe death of children in Gaza. Reddit wants to get a grip on itself
[deleted]
Only scumbags get a say now in this bizarro world where incel tech billionairs control everything obviously
We are in the wrong timeline. Like we've gone back to 1912 or something
Ironically, it's people like Charlie Kirk who argue against the pretty much universal consensus that people being shot is a bad thing. Well, he was most definitely not murdered by words. And it's understandable people don't feel bad for him, when at the same time there was yet another school shooting.
Gun violence should not be glorified, but according to MAGA be accepted as normal and inevitable.
Either way, it’s definitely going to put a dent in the amount of posts this subreddit has, now the Kirk isn’t around to say moronic things every day.
Though Nancy Mace is trying to fill that gap.
Reddit admins are a bunch of fucking cunts scared of what Donald’s administration will do to them if they aren’t compliant.
They can just make RebbitSocial and trade it publicly and launder more money through it
RIP the Hortman Family that was murdered by a psychopathic magat.
