Hey guys, my end sem just got over and I finally have some free time
I’m looking to watch some really good cult classic movies.
Any recommendations? Open to any genre — thriller, crime, sci-fi, drama, comedy, anything that’s a must-watch.
You need to have the theater experience. I don't know why the other commenter didn't mention it. Shows are at midnight and may or may not be going on at the moment.
Watching it at home by yourself you'll be wondering what the fuss is about.
Some of my favorites in no particular order: Eraserhead, Repo Man, Brazil, Clerks, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Being John Malkovich, Pink Flamingos (any John Waters films, really), A Boy and His Dog, UHF, Altered States, After Hours, Dr. Strangelove, Eating Raoul, Solaris, Crumb, and of course…
For me, it's a tie between The Wicker Man and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. RHPS is just campy fun, but The Wicker Man is the epitome of a cult classic.
Return of the Living Dead (Dan O’Bannon, 1989; not the new one, which I haven’t seen yet). It’s a one-of-a-kind tour de force mash up of horror and comedy that only becomes more deeply disturbing the more you think about it. You’ll be laughing in your nightmares.
Dark Star. John Carpenter's first film. Made with Dan O'Bannon, who went on to co-write Alien. The big threatening monster in the film is just a beach ball.

Plate o’ shrimp!
Good god, thought of this immediately! Yes!
Always and forever.
I like a lot of cult movies, but this one is my favorite.
Last summer, I saw it on the big screen for the first time. It was a wonderful experience being in a theater full of fellow fans.
That sounds wonderful. I didn't see it until I was in my 40's and instantly fell in love.
FOOD
Donnie Darko (if considered one)
Tooo I watched that movie , really awesoomme
This Is Spinal Tap (1984)
This one goes to eleven!
So rewatchable
The DVD commentary track with the cast in character is like a whole new movie that you can watch and rewatch even more.
This is the one, hands down!
Yes this is the OG cult classic movie
El Topo and Rocky Horror and Pink Flamingos would like a word.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
The 80s were great for cult films, but this was the best…
ha! this was my first thought as well when I consider a 'cult classic'.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
It’s worth at least one watch in every one’s life for the unique experience and great music
Wow let me try the show tonight 😛

It’s been running on a movie screen since the 70’s. I’d say it definitely qualifies. It’ll make you shiver…with antici….
