I saw it as a little kid with my parents, and it was like a revelation. The best movie I've ever seen. If anyone hasn't seen it, go watch it now, because it was... beautiful. The best thing my eyes and ears have ever experienced. A masterpiece that everyone should see at least once in their life.

For those interested in watching it, it's available on: Netflix.

  • It's quite literally the world's favourite film.

But I'm sure there's someone out there who hasn't seen it 😅

Haha! True... I guess it comes down to a simple choice. Get busy watching or get busy missing out.

How can you be so obtuse?

    Is it deliberate ?

He's referring to the fact that it has occupied the highest rated film on IMDB for quite some time.

Does that mean it measures the opinion of "the world"? No, of course not. Non-English-speaking people are severely underrepresented as are the very poor and many others, but it's what we got.

I'm pretty sure he was just quoting the movie...

I don't doubt that but there's always a new generation that hasn't seen it. Just like I'm sure there are younger people out there who have never seen Jaws, the best horror of all time.

Just in case someone wants to dispute this, no. Jaws' title as the best horror film, it is not up for debate.

It’s absolutely flawless. The writing. The acting. The direction. The music.

    It’s just perfect.

  • I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say most people have seen the highest-ranked film on IMDB of all time

  • I watched it with my gf last weekend, she had never seen it. Needles to say she loved it but man was she almost ready to bail from how sad the Brooks stuff made her.

  • Some people will disappoint you. I remember at work one of the young architects had never seen a princess Bride and none of us could believe it. We all convinced him to check it out, excited for him to experience it for the first time. We were all jealous.

He gets to work the following Monday absolutely incensed. He HATED it. He quit watching after the first twenty minutes.

I know, totally different type of film. But people can surprise you on what they like.

Though how a person could hate Shawshank? I dunno. Watching Morgan Freeman reading narration cue cards on a talk show was one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

Agree though. Experiencing Shawshank first time would be magical hopefully someone will discover it thst hasn’t yet.

    Inconceivable!

I don't like saying this sort of thing but it's kinda lazy but I think Princess Bride is a film you have to "get". If you don't enjoy the tone of it, the feel of it it's not going to be for you.

By the way - i'm not a fan of Shawshank

  • I force anyone I find out hasn't watched it yet to go watch it. There are other movies that I love and try to get people to watch if it seems like something they would like but this one is a universal type of good in my opinion so it applies to everyone.

  • I remember watching The Princess Bride for the first time, as a teen in 1987. Some friends and I went out to see it at the dollar theatre. It was just magical watching it in a group, not really knowing what to expect. We were in hysterics the whole time and were quoting it immediately!

Some movies are just funnier with a crowd and better when you’ve heard little hype about it.

  • And to think it didn’t do very well at the theaters. It wasn’t until the DVD came out that people saw how good it was.

It came out at the same time as Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump and got overlooked.

As great as it is it never felt like a big screen movie to me, always thought it had that TV movie look. I might be alone in that opinion though as I know how highly rated it is. It would have made a brilliant mini-series too.

  • Fabulous movie , but really not for kids

Hopefully when you say little kid you mean teenager

Prison rape and suicide do not a kids movie make.

  • I remember going to the video rental store one time when I was like 12 to rent ShawShank and some other movie, went up to the counter and was told I had about $15 in late fees, all I had was a $5 or a $10 I can't remember. The cashier asked if I ever seen Shawshank Redemption, I said nope...he erased my late fees so I could rent it.

Thats when I knew I was about to watch something great.

  • Read the short story , that'll blow you away as well

    Thank you

That same book has Stand By Me story and Apt Pupil short story....book is Different Seasons

Cocaine era Stephen king was on another level.

  • I’m very upset that I saw the family guy parody episode before the film lol. I think it would have been one of the best first watches otherwise

  • Anyone thirsty try water

  • fun fact: it bombed at the box office because other movies out in theatre at the same time were Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and Jurassic Park.

  • It's got one flaw (spoiler)

I don't think you could break into a sizable sewerage pipe with a rock, somehow.

It is shown to be very old and rusted.

Sure. Try it yourself on the next rusty old pipe you encounter. Using a rock. Those OG pipes could probably survive a mortar.

After I’ve gone through the wall with my rock pick, under the poster of Rita Hayworth.

exactly. Never works when I've tried it anyway.

    Meanwhile…. It’s a truly magnificent movie.

Not just that, but when he broke it, the shit gushed out like a geyser. Then when he looks down in it and crawls through, it's like 1/6th full.
