So I just have gone through the biggest deranking of my life. I am usually gold 1 or platinum, but I kept being put in lobbies where my teamates are in the low and I mean low silver or rankless. Now I am gold 5 and about to derank again, I am mad my confidence is on the floor and I can ask regularly to my teamates because I get made fun off in game.

Also extra note my other friend who we play together is usually gold 4 has noticed the same thing in her own games.

It’s just I am mad at the moment, because I am giving it my all trying to even switch to counter. But it’s starting to get to me…..

  • Actually forget it maybe I am playing terribly and getting mad at a game I can literally ignore. Usually I do play competitive because people play more seriously but it seems qp has been more serious this season.

Sounds like you need a break. OW can definitely be frustrating and toxic. Enjoying the game is largely about learning how to cope with the mental side.

Everyone goes on loss streaks, even the pros. Expect to stomp a third of your games and get stomped in another third. You have little influence in 2/3 of your games. You were either gonna win no matter what or lose no matter what. Don't get too high or too low. Just GG, go next.

Even at champion rank, there will be bad teammates. I promise you that's the case in my games in master. You don't control your teammates but you do control how you behave. Focus on improving your gameplay and you will rank up. Stop blaming others, laugh things off, be positive. Turn off comms if you have to. Worst case: GG, go next.

When you're tilted, stop playing. You're just gonna lose more. Play another game, go for a walk, go enjoy the sun. OW will still be there the next day.

I find that when I take the game less seriously I have more fun. Ultimately, that's the point of the game, not ranking up.

    Good luck.

This is actually great advice for life in general. Thank you my guy.

  • I've noticed this last season and it seems to be only when I play support. I gave up playing support in 5v5 ranked last season because it feels so unfair. Being able to see your teammates ranks makes it so much more noticeable. I'm plat 2 and somehow me and the other support are CONSISTENTLY the only plat players on my team, with the tank and dps being low gold/borderline silver? Like it actually feels like being dragged down in rank because of matchmaking.

And I don't care if the enemy tank/dps are also gold/silver too, carrying on support, especially with a bad tank is too hard. And even if I win, it doesn't feel fun.

On tank/dps, it feels like I can just lock in and get results, and if I lose, I can clearly point to my own mistakes. On support, no matter how well I do, I can still lose because I have the most passive dps ever, or tanks that just walk in 1v5 on repeat.

  • I think people's ranks just aren't a true reflection of their skill. In your rank, you're being matched with the lowest ranks still, but in higher ranks where the matchmaking is limited I'm still running into players who have no idea what they're doing, but they're probably getting carried to higher ranks in groups. It still isn't as bad as the lowest ranks though.

I'm a Silver 1-3 support but for some reason I got placed Plat 5 as dmg. I literally have no idea how to play dmg while I'm a pretty decent support, carrying most of my games. (Pretty decent means that I could be good for Gold, I'm not a top player.)

How the heck did I get placed in Plat tho when I've got no idea what I'm doing? So weird.

  • No I feel that! I’m usually in gold play lobbies in open queue and for role support I was trying to play as anyone BUT Moira and got to gold 3. But after a random losing streak ,halfway through which I started using Moira again to try and bring me back up, that brought me back to silver 4 I thought I had just become ass. Only to go back to the gold plat lobbies and do absolutely fine/dominate. It’s so much easier in higher lobbies so I defo get you. Idk why though

  • The night before the new season started I dropped from Diamond 5 to Plat 4 because matchmaking decided it wanted my DPS or tank or both to go negative for 12 games in a row

  • I have noticed anyone from bronze to plat in my games I’m gold currently. Does seem to be a wider pool than I remember. I dunno though

Maybe the metal ranks are generally more casual with not enough players playing a lot and more randop player skills

I'm a new player and got ranked bronze and when I play with plat or gold players (friends, groups or solo queue) I don't really see the difference except the aim and the reflexes (a lot of bronze players play like grandparents and I might be playing like that too) but the decision making and positioning seems globally trash all the way from bronze to plat

  • Happened to me right off the bat at the beginning of the season. I dropped from Master 4 to Plat 2. I ended up taking a short break and now that I'm back I'm climbing back up just as fast as I fell.

Sometimes you get burnt out without realizing it and just need a reset. After reviewing my vods I was definitely playing like a bafoon, likely due to frustration, impatience, and just being tired, too.

I'm off work on PTO for the whole month and while it's nice to be able to grind a ton of overwatch (300 ranked games already this season) playing a ton can really affect your ability to perform at your best all the time!
