The beginning of the article makes it look like little impact was made. By the end it points out that over a hundred subs have banned X, and the consequences aren't clear yet. The more that back out the more noticeable it is. The more another voice may be heard on the bigger stage.
I think everyone in this thread misunderstood the parent comment. Seems like they meant "back out" of using X.
For some reason, those two words made everyone think subs are "backing out" of the ban, but you can tell by the last sentence that's not what they meant.
It's mostly artwork subreddits that might use it i guess. I know r/hatsune heavily uses it and people rightfully don't want to ban Twitter because of this since that would effectively mean the death of the sub.

Wait, there are subs walking back the ban? Cowards.
I'm not surprised. Same thing happened with the API protests.
Ride the ban wave, get all the upvotes, join the protest for a few days.
But after that the bulk of users stop caring, the wave is over, doesn't get any attention anymore; and they revert back to the same old ways.
What are you talking about? Subs banned links by X, the end.
Where did you get that from?

What exactly is "the cause"?
"Elon's a Nazi" ... that's their cause ... lol.
ewons widdle feewings got hurt and he's maad.
fuckin snowflake.
Show me on this Tesla where Elon hurt you.
I would, but I can't find the democracy or the economic mobility on it
Remember when Russia crossed into Ukraine with the proclamation that they were here to de-nazify Ukraine?
Yes Azov was really Nazi-loving. Really ironic that the anti-Nazis wound up supporting the Nazis. Mad mad world.
None of my subs use twitter. Banning it on mine would unfortunately no effect.

Most art subs require attribution. If they ban X links, they either have to ban creators that only post on X or let people steal art.
Personally I would like to see X launched into the sun but I can see how subs would back out.
Same here.
They are walking back because the ban is dumb
