Hello, I am from Detroit and I may very well be getting an apartment in Minneapolis. From what I’ve heard, north loop is a good spot, especially for my age at 24. Idk how true that is, just something my cousin told me, the only person I know in Minnesota. Hopefully I could make some friends. Really all I know is target field is nearby. Even though I’m a tigers fan, I would love to catch a bunch of baseball games living so close.

So I would love to hear actual opinions from those in or near north loop. The apartments I’ve looked at also don’t seem to have much info about parking, so what’s the deal with that? Do people just park in nearby parking ramps?

  • Most of the apartments have underground parking, or at least all of them I ever toured in the North Loop

I just checked out the Hall Lofts and looks like they have underground parking. Is it usually a seperate monthly fee? I’d assume so, it is here

Yes, can be $150+ on top of monthly rent.

Nearby, I would recommend third north. They have underground parking for an added fee, but the street on the south side of the building is typically free after hours and even if you’re paying the meter on occasion, it’s still cheaper than monthly parking. It’s an “older” apt building for North Loop, but great value and experience in my opinion.

  • I always recommend people who are looking for a place, especially in North Loop, and need parking, to look at condo units that are for lease. Easily found on Zillow and/or through property company like DRG. You can usually get a place with garage parking and sometimes more all included in the rent which are generally competitive with apartment buildings after you include all the fees they would charge.

I could be wrong, but don’t most condos not have any amenities?

Depends on the building. I've been in two. First one had none. Second one had a gym and a roof top patio with grill.

  • Parking is available and will run you $150+ at every place. FYI, the Twins have a walk in ballpark access pass available that is around $300 a season. Standing room only ticket to any home game. I did it two years ago. Went to 31 games that year. Went on a couple tuesdays to grab the dollar hot dogs as I was hungry. Not a bad view anywhere in our stadium.

Interesting pass. I do remember target field has one of the best viewing areas from the concourse.

  • If you live downtown/North loop, you pay extra for parking. You definitely want off street secure parking. Good luck.

  • The parking is tricky in NorthLoop, me and my friends lives here, we all are in High rise high end apartments, paying over $2000 plus utilities, plus parking, parking is around $200 for us. 2 of my friends, including me has to park across the street ( Contracted with mpls city parking ) since they don’t have enough space for all the residents, we’ll be on a waitlist. I don’t mind personally, but if it’s too important for you I’d look around neighboring area like St.Louis Park or Golden Valley, if you can’t get a spot for underground, at least you’d get a space for outside parking.

  • No offense but what 24 year olds can afford rent in the North Loop? Congrats I guess

I can’t really lmao, but my only other option is to live in my cousins basement with his wife in the house. I found that studio apartments in northloop compared to surrounding areas aren’t that much different in price

Do you have any reason to actually live downtown? It’s a big metro area to choose from.

I guess no real reason other than desires. I’d love going to target field and not having to pay $25 for parking, and in general I’d imagine I’d be spending a solid amount of time in the city. Ironically it’s to save some money on parking and also convenience I guess. If there’s cheaper parking options idk about near north loop, that would be a game changer

  • North Loop is 95% soulless, expensive bug box apartments.  But - it is walkable, and there’s incredible (expensive) restaurants and bars everywhere.  Consider Uptown near the lakes, NE, Linden Hills, or south Lyndale.
