I had a lot of good times there as a transplant. I met some of the coolest people there… Now that its gone Im wondering if there is any bar with a similar punk/DIY vibe.
Edit: Uptown VFW and CC club got my vote for most similar to Palmers
Oh! Weird! This is the first time I heard/read anyone state a shady comment about Morrisey's. I've been there several times, and never felt something threatening (or whatever the term cliquey means 🤣) about it. Of course, I've most probably been living in this city, or for the case, this country, way way less than you, so maybe there's something I'm not noticing 🤷🏽.
Dusty's, Prodigal Pub, CC Club maybe some others in NE. Palmers was a one of one. It's funny because it got a lot nicer (safer) the last decade. It was always cool but it was a super rough crowd back in the day.
I feel like Terminal Bar could get there if people 'discovered' it.
Eagles 34, especially when all 3 rooms have shows. The bar/restaurant area has a similar vibe of the Palmer's Patio - wide array of people from a wide array of backgrounds, all mashed together.
Mortimers
as a fellow transplant, palmer's definitely had more of a welcoming vibe to me than mort's. bummer cause mort's is much closer
Thats what i think too. Morts feels a lil cliquey
Totally is (not a bar/music bar) like that at morriseys… feels like a record scratches when you walk in.. only mentioning cuz also close/uptown..
The answer to your question I think is the 331
Its a super small venue tho! Like every time i go im just in the way i feel. Outdoor area is probably the way to go

Schooner Bar. Cornbread Harris performs there every Sunday 5-7pm.
and he used to play at palmer's! i'm sure some of the same crowd follows him

Schooner or the Eagles club
There’s nothing like Palmers Bar
331 club is close.

Maybe Otter before karaoke starts?
So it's not as wild as Palmers but the Prodigal Pub is one of the most friendly and welcoming "everyone welcome here" bars in Minneapolis.
It's like being at someone's house.
One of the bartenders has a birthday and they went around and gave us all a slice of cake.
The vibes are really great there.
