Destroying our alliances for what? Mining rights we could easily negotiate? Sooth the ego of a narcissistic man child? Focus people’s attention on a deteriorating global environment so they don’t focus on files concerning a dead human trafficker?
Its for daddy Putin. Putin wants to have NATO disbanded and a non entity for his further actions in Europe. What better way to force it to disolve than the biggest contributor to it betraying it?
Even "funnier", they already have those mining rights. It is not done because mining in the Arctic is still very expensive because despite Climate Change it is still not great climate and there is no infrastructrue.
We already have an agreement with the US about greenlandic defence and if trump had asked us, dane btw, he could have had all the military defence he wanted on greenland… the problem is that it is not about that, its about the minerals and land…
A normal politician would’ve just negotiated the minerals as well, Greenland is not easy to mine and there is not enough manpower to do it. And if I remember correctly the mines aren’t near population centers.
It’s not about the minerals or the land, I’m sure (American btw) we could’ve negotiated those with y’all as well if approached as adults. We already have a base there and I’m sure it wouldn’t be an issue to fortify additionally to counter China / Russia.
Let’s be honest, It’s about a wannabe dictator’s ego and obsessions. The majority of us over here are embarrassed to say the least. Although I’m just one random American on Reddit, I’m confident that the start of his decline will be our upcoming 2026 midterm elections (based recent polling and the discussions I’ve had with many Trump supporters recently— a lot of them are defecting). All anecdotal I know, but that’s my prediction.
Fought next to the Danes in Afghanistan. Pretty fucked up situation we find ourselves in.
NGL, Danes in Afghanistan were pretty on point for being so few and having probably dick training for that terrain and COIN-like operations. A decent amount gave their lives coming to America's call for help, fucking so embarrassed and shamed as an American right now...
Beyond stupid. Denmark is one of the most reliable and helpful US allies: they went to Afghanistan, increased their defense spending toward the NATO 2% target, and gave the US excellent access to Greenland decades ago.
It's basically impossible for me to think of an explanation other than "Russia is influencing Trump and his cabinet-level staff."
There’s also domestic politics baked in. Picking a fight with Europe plays well with a large segment of the American electorate that already resents NATO, foreign aid, and “ungrateful allies.” In that framing, Denmark’s actual record doesn’t matter. What matters is reinforcing the story that America is being taken advantage of, spat in the eye for decades and needs to assert itself over the Europeans.
The Russia-influencing-Trump theory also runs into a credibility problem because it assumes consistency. Trump has antagonized Russia, praised Russia, sanctioned Russia, undermined Ukraine, then approved weapons to Ukraine, often within the same year. That looks less like a controlled foreign asset and more like ideological incoherence mixed with ego-driven decision-making. I mean bro we are literally taking Russia's oil, enough with the Russia conspiracy theory.
Well it's not like it was created separately for this situation. Someone just remembered to go ask Danish ministry of defence "hey the standing orders haven't changed?" and ministry answered "standing orders haven't changed".
It is a standard surprise attack contingency order. "If you think you are under invasion and attack, fight back. You don't need to nor should you wait for separate orders".
Usually in Nordics ancompanied with "Any order to stop resistance is false." Proofing units against their lines of communications being cut and or hijacked.
There is no need to recieve order to initiate defensive fight and any transmitted order to stop resistance will be ignored.
Nordics prepared to be overrun by Soviet wave, so continuance via guerrilla war incase country was overrun was standard part of the plan. Hopefully field army stopped the enemy, but if not the remainder had indefinite orders to continue forever guerrilla war.
USA just now has encountered this standard standing order, policy and strategy. System doesn't care who attacks, it resists any invasion as long as individual soldiers and units will to fight (and some means) remains.
Yes. Imagine an alcoholic telling you, "no matter what I say later tonight, don't give me a drink." While they have the clarity of mind, they're taking steps to mitigate when they might not.
An otherwise lawfully formed government may, under duress, issue an order to stop fighting. It's still better for the country if they keep fighting. Which is to say that by definition, there is no such thing as a legitimate order to stop fighting.
It gets ignored. That is the trade-off. One will have hell of a time convincing troops peace treaty has been signed and to stand down etc.
Nobody said the system was perfect. Just that it was surprise attack and communications line hijacking proofed against fooling troops to stand down.
One must remember these countries have tradition of conscript citizen armies. Resistance groups would probably pop up anyway. It's just formal order to officially dutying troops on individual level to do so.
(not everyone will, nor is really expected to be all out guerrilla in the caves, cellars and mountains, For those "rest of the people" duty is then to assist where they can the active resistance fighters. Shelter them, not report them, tell information they happen accross to resistance people etc.)
Minor skirmishes ensue. Denmark quickly surrenders and withdraws from NATO with minimal losses.
Several other of the smaller NATO members also withdraw from the alliance in solidarity with Denmark. However, UK, France, Germany, and all members bordering Russia remain in NATO.
Next time the Democrats control the presidency and Congress, they pass legislation giving the territory back to Denmark, and NATO expedites their approval as returning members.
Nobody is going to want to be in an alliance with an America that willingly invades its allies. NATO would dissolve, or would no longer involve America, regardless of all the weight it pulls compared to the rest.
your best outcome is NATO tumbling on for a few years to not lose possible deterrence while Europe is still vulnerable and defense built up is not manifest.
the alliance will be dead regardless because this shit will happen every second term
Idk about China but Putin has 100% been in the drivers seat of the U.S Trump since forever now, since after all he is russian asset + pedo and u.s is about to try to start war to distract from this 100% fact.
The stupidest fucking shit about all this is that I bet if someone from the State Department asked nicely and politely for everything these dumbfucks wanted in Greenland, then Denmark probably would've just given it to them without asking for anything in return.
Shit like that is the reason I know the intention is to undermine trust in the U.S. and the international system that's been cultivated since the second World War.
We already have an agreement with USA since 1952 or so… that you are welcome to make as many bases as you like, and put as many people in those bases as you like. You have military free reign as is. (but please clean up after yourselves this time, don’t leave an environmentally mess in Greenland. We care about the Earth.)
We also welcome American companies to invest in Greenland, if you want minerals and rare materials. But so far little interest from your side, since extracting those will be quite expensive.
I both served alongside you guys in Afghanistan and trained with Danish units stateside and in Europe…I even earned Danish Jump wings.
I have nothing but respect for your competence as a fighting force. Among the best soldiers I’ve ever worked with, and I’ve worked with a lot soldiers from a lot of countries.
Please understand that I view the Danish as friends and allies. I don't know what I'd do if this man follows through with his madness, but it most certainly will not be fighting the men and women that stood by us when we needed it.
I hope one day the people of the United States and its government can return to sanity, but I understand any and all future reservations regarding us from here on out.
Attacking a NATO ally would be the end of the alliance. This is Putin's wet dream.
I've always felt Pompadour was compromised. It's taxing to me that many buy the Russian hoax narrative. He has done so many things that benefit Putin. Almost every country but Russia had tariffs applied to them. That right there was a red flag early in this term. Siding with Putin over our own intelligence agencies. The abandonment of Ukraine and the utter disrespect shown to Zelensky in the Oval Office.
Even though I never served, I've always valued our allies. I can't even imagine having served alongside Greenlanders and observing the blatant disrespect shown to them now.
I've been trying to do what I can by repeatedly calling my representative's office throughout the last year. On one of the earlier calls, I expressed my concerns over the alienation of our allies. I told the staff member that if WWII were to happen today, it would feel like we'd be a member of the Axis Powers.
how freaking dumb are you? 350 million vs 5 million....US would absolutely destroy Denmark in any scenario even if the Americans only had sticks and bones vs Denmark with everything a modern military has.
Trump says it's for security yet the US literally has a military base in Greenland. He says it's cause it's not protected yet he ordered 10K military members out of Greenland. He says China and Russia or surrounding the island yet he can literally tell the US Navy to secure the oceans around Greenland....Nothing Trump is saying makes any sense he is a warmonger, yet he was elected cause he's the "president of peace" 🙄
"I went to Greenland to try to buy it,” Dryden Brown tweeted in November. Brown, 28, is the CEO of a company called Praxis, which is part of a broader movement known as the Network State. I recently wrote about the Network Staters, who say they want to create a host of privately funded, crypto-friendly countries all around the world. Zealots of this ideology believe they’re building the future, but critics of the movement see it as little more than a bizarre neo-colonial effort to lay claim to existing countries, re-write their legal frameworks, and extract all the wealth and resources from them.
Honestly there would not be much militarily or war power-wise that the rest of NATO could do if the U.S. just wanted to take it. Strategy would be more along the lines of isolating the U.S. via economic and travel sanctions, and waiting out for a more friendly administration.
I guess this is what happens when you, you know, extraordinarily rely on one nation for your security. They decide to act bold and act on their long-term interest instead of yours. They can bend you over whenever they want. Denmark is starting to experience this.
But then again, this is the nation that couldn't last a full day, at least, while fighting the Germans. They're not going to fight the US. They'll give it up.
Are you Americans so sure of that, to the extent that you¨re willing to test the strength of the rest of NATO? Yeah, I get it, a very long war would favour a US victourious outcome, but you¨d suffer a lot of losses before getting there, making it harder to swallow politically.
Countries like France also has a nucler strike first doctrine if their existence is threatened and that a total reset of the entire planet is the only outcome. Yes, Europe would perish, but so would the US in all likelihood.
There will be no alliance against the United States. You're making up a fantasy. They would sit there and let the U.S. take it because nobody wants total war over a fucking island. Nobody in France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Netherlands, or the U.K. and Germany wants their cities devastated or their civilians killed, especially since they always scream that there's an existential threat to their sovereignties, but you're going to fight the U.S. This is pure virtual signaling they're doing. They will bend the knee, just like in the past they got other nations and states to bend the knee.
Also, on the nuclear stuff you just said, I'm gonna ignore you said that. You're sounding like Russia now. "If you do that, we're gonna use nukes against you." No, you're not. You're not gonna use nukes against us. You're not gonna annihilate your culture and society. So, don't even bring that up.
I guess we'll just have to see, I wouldn't be so sure if I were you. The EU also has another defense pact that's not dependend on NATO, so I would not in any case take what you¨re saying for granted.
This is a discussion forum, so I'll write what I want and continue to do so. Don't like it? Don't really care...
Gonna bet you'll be one of the first americans to die on Danish soil, all so you can have a shot at one of your kids getting fucked by POTUS himself.....
Destroying our alliances for what? Mining rights we could easily negotiate? Sooth the ego of a narcissistic man child? Focus people’s attention on a deteriorating global environment so they don’t focus on files concerning a dead human trafficker?
because Vladimir Putin said Donald Trump was smart and handsome.
It's the alive people in the files like the president that we're concerned about.
In short: It is not easily profitable atm.
With how some folks ignore global warming for profits, they might know something we don't.
The one fucking time they pay attention to profits beyond this quarter and it still screws us over.
That and the added regulations because of local laws
There's a half mile of ice and another half mile of rock between the surface and whatever minerals are on Greenland.
He knows he is going to die soon and is displeased with how he thinks people will remember him.
His solution is to conquer the world, or as much as he can, and go out with a bang.
It's his one last "fuck you" to everyone who hurt his feelings by not kissing his ass.
Maybe. But I think the truly last ‘fuck you’ will be endorsing Junior for 2028.
Trump reminds me of the mad king in game of thrones. He's become drunk on the power of the oval office.
All y'all. Read that again.
Trump has lost his fucking mind. Congress needs to remove him but they're too cowardly.
We already have an agreement with the US about greenlandic defence and if trump had asked us, dane btw, he could have had all the military defence he wanted on greenland… the problem is that it is not about that, its about the minerals and land…
Annnnnd. It's an easy ops to break away from NATO as Russia moves troops from Belarus through Lithuania to Kaliningrad.
A normal politician would’ve just negotiated the minerals as well, Greenland is not easy to mine and there is not enough manpower to do it. And if I remember correctly the mines aren’t near population centers.
But now Canada Romania and another EU member get the mining rights.
It’s not about the minerals or the land, I’m sure (American btw) we could’ve negotiated those with y’all as well if approached as adults. We already have a base there and I’m sure it wouldn’t be an issue to fortify additionally to counter China / Russia.

World war 3 to protect wealthy pedophiles, what a comical arc for humanity.
Keep saying it keep it at the forefront, actual War to protect 1 pedo. Millions at risk JUST and solely to distract from 1 pedo that's it. ridiculous.
Can you blame them?

Saddam is laughing at us from hell.
I remember serving with the Danish military, I can’t believe this is happening.
What do you think would happen if the US did try taking Greenland kinetically?
I very much doubt it would happen that way.
But if it did, this would be my prediction.

He laughed at me.
We’ve been training with and arming them to the teeth for 70 years.
I worked with their intel and SOF guys a lot in Afghanistan and one to one, they would absolutely be a peer adversary.
Possibly even better.
On an individual level, many of them are higher quality than our guys.
In any case, they are absolutely nothing to fuck with.
hahahahhahahahhahahahhaha

All of this, so a few assholes can make more money while the rest of the world suffers.
In another sub I read Denmark is also willing to commit warcrimes by strewing lego bricks along the beaches to cripple landing troops. /j
Denmark's experience with Germany in the last war taught them how to deal with facists
I wish the states would adopt this sentiment

The “Putin has something over Trump and is controlling him” theory is looking less outlandish every day. Invading Greenland would probably kill NATO.
Danish military wouldn't dare fight us lol. Very short lived for them.
Yeah, well that's not the point idiot.
Gonna bet you'll be one of the first americans to die on Danish soil, all so you can have a shot at one of your kids getting fucked by POTUS himself.....
Nah, he wouldn't actually dare enlist.
You have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.
Why are you even here?
This is a liberal cesspool lol. Clueless kids.
You have no idea what you’re talking about.
This is not a place for you.
Go away.
Truth hurts.
Nothing you have said is true.
Truth hurts.
