Why is it that every time I give someone my name they say “Is MichEAl correct?”
Do they not know about Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson or Michael Phelps and the many more Michaels? It feels like being a Michael is the less common spelling, but it couldn’t be more inaccurate…
I’ll never understand it. Tons of celebrities and athletes with the name Michael. Number 2 name in the US for the last 100 years (source)
And it’s still misspelled? It would be one thing if sometimes there was a Micheal, but I’ve never met one. I did a Facebook search once, and the only accounts I saw had no posts so were likely fake.
They are just jealous
I had a Micheal tell me my name was spelled wrong once. I didn’t have the heart to tell him to look at any celebrity names Michael
You should’ve told him his parents named him Michelle, they just didn’t know how to spell it right
Fun fact lol - Michael (Micheál - pronounced mee-HUL) is the Irish Gaelic variant of Michael.
But yeah, that’s a rare exception lol Michael is the default, and it’s weird to assume anything else. I say this as an Irish Michael. See username.
I met one of these guys recently.
I’ve only ever heard of Americans spelling it Micheal.
How many Americans have you met lol it’s Michael
Most of my friends spell it Micheal and Im from the UK, some of them are from Poland, most are from the UK and one is from Latvia (but she spells it Mikel).
Never seen anyone's name in real life spelled Micheal. Only Michael. But still every time I get Micheal.
At Lowe's, they somehow entered my name even more incorrectly.
To get my military discount, I have to agree that my name is...
micha3l
It still makes me laugh every time
This must be a regional thing, it’s barely occurred in my lifetime. Though I did grow up 5 miles away from Gary in the 90’s when everyone was a Bull’s fan and Michael Jackson was one of the biggest stars in the world. So yeah maybe it is a regional thing
When I joined this sub many years ago, my Micheal-ness was never questioned and i was welcomed. It seems this sub has now gotten very conservative and I must relinquish my membership.
I don't know where you're from, but I've never heard it be spelled anything other than Michael. Also, it's a very common name, so I don't get it. There's literally a church called St Michael's that I go to sometimes so everyone knows how to spell it.
I live in Toronto, Canada. Not really an isolate place, it’s unacceptable!
