Mine would be:
- Opening the Eglinton Crosstown and Finch West LRT. More specifically, fix the last problems in the Eglinton Crosstown and hand it over to the TTC. Finch West is opening in just over a week, not too concerned about that (for now), but handing over the Crosstown is the final major step before it opens.
- GO Expansion. I can't stress it enough. Although double-tracking, station upgrades, more frequent service is slowly progressing (yes, slowly), we need Electrification!!! Not a single part of the GO Rail network has been expanded yet. I would start Electrification asap and begin that work. Oh, and bringing back Express LSE? That too!
- UP Express Electrification. Arguably my second priority, if this takes no more than
6 months1.5 years (I almost forgot about Metrolinx's slowness. 1.5 years should be enough... right?). With more stations opening, end-to-end time is slowly going from 25 min --> 28 min --> 31 min --> 34 min (St. Clair-Old Weston and Woodbine making 31 and 34), and electrification would be the ultimate solution).
What would be yours?
The reason GO expansion is progressing so slowly is because of strict limitations on service disruption. The work has to be down sequentially, you cannot prioritize electrification over the corridor updates.
The rapid transit portfolio should be a top priority (as it is for the real CEO).
You are absolutely correct. However, all of GO's expansion projects are significantly pushed-back and also less "ambitious" as it was originally planned (elements are being deferred, some even removed). The entire plan is completely messed up and who knows how it will look like in the never-ending end.
GO needs to focus on increasing express bus routes - and creating buffers for traffic to allow train connections.
Lakeshore east express
I would focus on the Pearson transit hub, which would involve tunneling GO lines and extending eglinton crosstown further west. Extend the Finch line to Pearson as well. UP would need more infrastructure and have 2 airport stations as well. The current terminal 1station. And a second at the transit hub.
