• SS: I was flipping through myretroTV and this song came on. Typically, for pop music, if it's from the 80's or 90's and I haven't heard it - it's usually because it wasn't catchy or popular enough to reach my ears after all these years.

But for underground metal, I give it a little extra opportunity to grab me before moving on. I'm glad I did with OLD. It's like proto-grind with industrial leanings. I've listed to a couple of their records... just since my discovery last night. My takeaway is that they sound pretty fresh for 91, but also an early arrival in the niche that they're in.

If you're here, I'd love to know your take or your experience with OLD.

  • Great post! I loved this tape when it came out. I blindly purchased anything that was on Earache Records back then. I was immediately grabbed by their avant-garde style and their bizarre whimsy. Mazuraan was my favorite track on the album.

  • Loved this album at the time and thought "this is what metal will sound like in the FUTURE", which turned out not to be the case. This song and Disconnect Self have been regular earworms for me for the last 35 years. Lo Flux Tube remains my favourite but they evolved so much over their few albums.
