this was the face that struck my guy dumb with love and adoration
it's now 10 years later and not 5 minutes ago he was snuggling her and singing into her neck while she made happy chirping noises
he's a big burly guy with ugly tattoos and a mean mug. whereas most people naturally turn and talk to me, he scares most folks because, honestly, he's a little scary looking. but lol he's the one who cries at sad movies, the one who gets excited by a good spatula & alton brown episode, and the one who will take a bullet for a cat
i love cats and always have because i'm part cat 😽
He sounds like a wonderful guy!!!! My dad was a grouch from WW2-induced PTSD but melted into puddles over our cats and dogs. Gruff exterior, softie inside. 🥰
Exactly! My Gruff One is currently doling out containers of homeade turkey soup for his friends. He made the broth and then added thanksgiving leftovers to it. It smells so good; I'll probably have some for breakfast.
"Labelled a cretin and imbecile in his lifetime, the Swiss artist Gottfried Mind had profound talents when it came to drafting the feline form. Kirsten Tambling reconstructs the biography of this elusive figure, whose savant-like qualities inspired later French Realists, early psychiatric theorists, and Romantic visions of the artist as outsider."
Happy Sunday! I loved the article about Gottfried Mind. And his amazingly true-to-life portraits of cats. Although Mind might have been mentally disabled in some ways, his artistic genius shines through to us 200 years later.
I'd seen that story about George the cat before. But I had missed the fact that the Navy crew members who rescued him were from the battleship USS North Carolina. My dad served on that ship for about a year, as part of the ship's band and in fire control. He never mentioned a cat on the ship, so I guess this happened after he'd been rotated back to the States.

My mum, for my entire life until I got a kitten: "I hate cats." My mum, earlier this month: "I've already ordered Christmas presents for the kitties!"
