trying to find a good keyboard for work that feels good to type on. i bought a Keychron V1 but it feels awful to type on because of the red linear switches. i have a Logitech G413 for my gaming and that typing feels much better. i was looking at the Keychron V6 Max with banana switches. do you think that would work better?
ideally i would be looking for a 100% programmable mechanical keyboard with see light through the keycaps and with switches that make me know when they are pressed. i almost always bottom out when typing and i prefer it that way. linear switches will not work. the red ones on the v1 were WAY too sensative and i constantly typed without meaning to.
The Keychron V1 is hot swappable. You can replace the switches instead of buying a whole new keyboard.
i know but i wanted to get the full keypad version since i end up using it a lot for work. excel and other things involving numbers a lot
Hi everyone, I'm stuck at a dead end and need your help! Wanting to build a silent keyboard with gecko switches and trying to figure out what boards to put them in. Was looking at iqunix zonex 75 but customer support/product consistency is iffy, then just saw hope with akko MOD007 V5 case but its sadly HE with no mechanical support. So I just wanted to see if anyone has a rec for cases that look like those 2 while being aluminum and 75%, preferably with a knob. Thank you in advance!!! Also Merry early Christmas!
tldr: Looking for an aluminum barebone case, 75%, $150±10 range, hotswap, looks unique! pls no keychron...
Would an aluminum plate mess with hall effect sensors? I forgot to grab a plate with the PCB I just grabbed and am curious if that would work
It'll work fine.
no its not magnetic
Hey there. Im using a redragon k563 surya
Im new to mechanical keyboards and i wanna know how many type of sockets these switches have and what kind of switches do i need to buy to match my keyboard.
I heard something about outemu sockets but i cant figure it out
I wanna change some keys from blue to red because its too loud.
u would have to pull a switches and show us the sockets . likey uses outemu sockets due to being redragon which means any outmeu or gazzew switches will fit
Have you guys got any recommendations for brands which consistently support ISO layouts (ideally UK)? Most of the ones I’ve came across are ANSI only, or only very rarely support UK layouts. I’m ideally hoping to move away from Logitech but I’m not seeing many options though outside of the usual big brands
Qwertykeys Neo. If you wanted a 75%, Monsgeek M1 V5 VIA, Bridge75
Awesome, I’ll check them out, thanks!
If you had to buy something pre-made and deliverable in a relatively short period of time (potentially even Amazon-level speed), what would you get? While I work on something longer term, I need to get a keyboard in the next week. It’s not my money, so not a big deal to buy something very high build quality and then pass it on in a couple months. Keychron, Nuphy and a few others come up, but always with some gripes as well. It’s more than a bit overwhelming.
It will live on a desk, mobility isn’t an issue, build quality is at a premium (metal v. plastic).
HHKB or Realforce, depending on your size preference, are just the best OEM keyboards. If it has to be MX, then Filco, Leopold, Rainy/Bridge75 (idk for sure about their shipping times but the Rainy at least is on Amazon), Keychron are all good options.
where can i find footprints for either screw in cherry stabs on there own or a footprint for kalih mx hotswap sockets with a spot for stabs? i am currently using the kailh mx hotswap footprints from the keyswitch Kicad libary witch dont have them.
i can find u what u need but here a list of open source kbs one of them should have gerber or kincad files showing what u need https://github.com/help-14/mechanical-keyboard
i just decided to edit existing footprints that have the stabs to get the sizes because i couldn't find them any where else. i might make a github repo of stab footprints for others to use.
never mind i just found the stabilizers in the keyswitch library but i will still work on the library so people have the outline to help line the stabs up.
How big of a difference is there between the normal and b stock pc on the mode encore 3?
From the link on the product page.
Ordered a few things on the weikav website on th 9th of December, still haven’t gotten any email or word about my order, only a confirmation email. I tried emailing them twice but no response. Should I just dispute? I’m a will hesitant cus I ordered the nut65 alongside the POM plate and I can’t seem to find the Pom plate on sale anywhere else.
i would contact them and if no reply dispute i assume u ordered off the trust vendor list ?general keeb parts vendor list

Hi everyone! I’m looking for a pre built mechanical keyboard. The main things I’m looking for are first and foremost a smooth feel - I want the buttons to feel great, and secondly, quiet enough to use in an office space. Not super picky about creamy/thocky/clacky, but a slight preference for creamy. Any recommendations?
No giveaways this year?
doesnt seem like it
I am looking into getting a Epomaker Galaxy 75. I found one for a good price but it is the non VIA model. I honestly don't know the difference between VIA and the proprietary software. I mostly game on my PC and don't think I would need a lot of customization. The one thing that I do a lot is alt tab between programs frequently. Can the proprietary software handle programing one of the unused keys to alt +tab on a single press?
Do not buy Epomaker. See this post about Epomaker:
https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/196hreg/mykeyboard_thickthock_other_vendor_issues/
Thanks for that info. In continuing my search for anyone who comes across this post. Any thoughts on Monsgeek software for the same application I mentioned above. I found a decent price for the V5 but it is not the VIA model. I'm also considering getting their rosewood switches.
If build quality and materials was at the top of your list, what would you get. Budget is a non-factor (I’m not paying). I’m not a gamer… I don’t need crazy customization. I just want GREAT quality with limited or zero plastic, mechanical and can be connected to a MacBook Pro or iPad or other items seamlessly. Definitely wireless, whether Bluetooth or through a dongle type thing. Thanks!
Probably creamy or thocky (from YouTube videos I’ve watched).
maybe qwertykeys ? neo series ? wireless and high end is a rare combo
That company does seem cool! Hadn’t heard of them. The idea of deciding on all the build aspects is a bit overwhelming. Slight preference for something I can order and be done.
u can look on here too if u want to see what is out there https://keeb-finder.com/
Cool site. Seems to suggest Keychron or Nuphy based on my prebuilt and wireless preference.
At the moment, probably the Class 100 (on GB right now), otherwise something from Mode or if budget is really not a factor, why not something from Norbauer?
Most of the really cool stuff is usually only on GB, so hard to recommend something that is no longer available (except through the used market).
Mode looks super cool! I’m a bit overwhelmed by the choices. Example, I have no idea what PCB vs hot swap is and some other stuff. May email them and ask for help.
mode doesn't do wireless boards FYI (no bluetooth/2.4g usb dongle), they are wired only
Well that helps! Seems Keychron keeps coming up in searches when I mention build and wireless. Also Nuphy and then I’ve seen Leopold and Varmilo a couple times but not as often.
i would say getting a neo board from qwertykeys as someone else suggested would fit on the no/limited plastic and wireless and no budget
there are just not a ton of super premium boards that are also wireless
mechanical keyboards can last a super long time (barring things like water/liquid spills, acts of god), but things can get dicey with a lithium ion battery is thrown into the mix
to keep in mind https://www.reddit.com/r/MechanicalKeyboards/comments/1mhoug8/builtin_batteries_and_how_to_avoid_fire_a/
Well, wired isn’t the deal breaker. It’s more the materials and quality and NO need to do any work on my end. Just nice and ready.
https://www.alexotos.com/keyboard-vendor-list/
evo80/evo75 from qwertykeys would fit, metal cases and wireless and ready to go
if you can find a keyboard vendor that has remaining stock of them
not a ton of prebuilt boards, and that are super nice quality
From tooling the site and looking around, everything about Mode screams quality to me. Wonder if they have an assembly fee or something.
They do have a build fee. Last I looked it was $80. But that was a while ago. You should just contact them if you're interested.
they used to have a build service (for a fee and it only was for mode products that they had), but they may have discontinued it (since i cannot find it on the site anymore)
you may be able to find people who build keyboards for a fee/cost of shipping, you would need to gather the parts (the kit, switches, keycaps etc) and send it to them to build and they send you back a built board on r/mechmarket under the service tag
Is there a site like https://kbfirmware.com/ (referenced from QMK Tutorial) that includes the 'Pi Pico (RP2040) or Pico-2 (RP-2350) in the list of supported controllers?
TY!
no that site is very outdated . last i checked the pico controller as miles easier to use and support VIA
Dear redditors, I spilled a glass of water over my Keyboard yesterday... now the keys with the removed keycaps aren't working anymore. Is there some sinple soldering solution or is this Keyboard fried?
Thanks in advance!

What keyboard is this? Also kind hard/impossible to see whether those are MX switches or something else with the LEDs on full blast.
Its a razer ultimate black widow 2016 https://amzn.eu/d/3ykafNG Green switches dont know if they are cherry.
Probably MX style switches made by another OEM when it was from around 2016, given that Cherry's patent expired a few years before that.
Best case: water in the switches and needs to dry. Worst case: corrosion or other gunk and you'd need to desolder all the affected switches and solder in new ones.
Alright, sounds like a plan, thank you!
did u remove the switches and dry the pcb and all the parts before pulling it in ?? u can try that but the longer water has been under the switches the higher chance u caused irreversible electrical shorts
I let it dry over night and then put it in. i didn't think it was such a problem, but aparently it was more water than i thought. So if the switches are shorted, just solder in new switches?
no switches cant short it would be the pcb traces under the switches . like i said if u didnt remove them and clean the moisture out . i would have wait 4 days or more before i attempted to plug it back in .
replacing the switches wont do anything your PCB is likely fried .
with nothing to lose u could leave it unplugged for a week and try again and see if its work and then if it doesnt then trash it
What are some creative uses for knobs? All i can think of is volume control.
I use mine for volume, but I have mine configured to adjust RGB brightness when a Fn layer is active.
Anyone with a Yunzii AL80 here who has figured out how to get reactive RGB effects with VIA?
This YouTuber has somehow managed to do it but doesn't specify how he did it: https://youtu.be/1MT02XMzVvU?si=MtefkUDJTzxUVI3X At around the 4:30 mark.
If anyone has a way, please let me know! Merry Christmas!
At 4:14 he opens the lighting tab in VIA. If you click on Solid Color you should see a selection of lighting effects, including reactive effects. Do you not?
No, the list has all the effects but none for reactive. It has the same list of effects that can be cycled through with a Fn shortcut. Has he used some other firmware there?
Im finally replacing my keyboard i've had since 2022, it works fine and i've cleaned mutiple times a year it so that most dust and debree are clean tho the wrist rest is a has opened up on the 2 shorter sides, its a blackwidow te chroma v2 TKL(how much should i sell for?(aud plz)) im looking for a new keyboard, obv tkl aswell, am Around/under 200aud, used is fine, i love the razer green switchs and i think the kailh blues(the navy ones(im guessing) are similar)
On fb market place there's glorious custom tkl(very clean 150), he switched to gateron clears(probs gonna switch), he's only had it 2 months before its got put it storage while moving
Wanting to build a keyboard with like really deep and fairly quiet switches? Anyone know keyboard bases that helps achieve that sound more easily? I prefer smaller keyboards with a sound knob but it's fine if not. I don't want to do any modding. Some switch recommendations would be great too but I'm mainly looking for bases right now
ADDING SPACE WHEN SPACE NOT PRESSED.....
Googling only really seems to return suggestions of gunk under the keys over time. This is a brand new wired keyboard.
Not all the time but enough to be annoying the spacebar will hit a double. So far it seems to be only the spacebar. So then I have to go back & sort out what I'm typing.
Or it wont even double space, it'll create a space when I haven't even tapped space. So I'll type something, anything - take that word for example & it'll come up as anyth ing or whatever when I haven't even tapped space.
Logitech keyboard
Windows 10.
if its a hotswap kb pull the switch and check for bent switch pins . if not then id return it as its like a pcb issue being new i wouldn't do anything drastic and just get it replaced these things are 99% of the time hardware related
@elmurfudd you would lean more towards hardware issue with keyboard than hardware/software with PC (Windows 10)? Only asking as the previous keyboard did similar. Just maybe not quite as frequent. Possibly it is the same amount, I'm not sure but the previous one did this also.
Previous was a Perixx keyboard, not sure of model. This is a Logitech G213.
well u cant check the switch as this kb u listed doesnt have switches its not a mech neither was your old one so i cant really say this sub is dedicated to mechs i no nothing about fixing membrane kb as most of us here HATE membranes . so if u have a question about a mech let me know
How do I deactivate Winlock on the QK65v2 Classic?
I'm still here thinking if I should go Wooting 80 HE or ATK x QK Hex80...
My opinion: wooting for the software, anything else for the hardware (venomTkl, hex80, ...).
Yea, does the software really above that.
imo it's already overkill to have magnetic switches for what I do, I just like to have something "end game" as I'm also working with that keyboard.
Hex80 seems to have such a premium build compared to a full plastic Wooting
Why do you think HE is your "endgame"? I would probably reconsider HE if I were in your shoes and get an e.g. Evo80, Lemokey, Monsgeek, ... instead. But you do you :)
I would always choose the wooting but the majority probably would get something else instead. In the end this is a you question/ what you want your focus on.
Buy a venom87HE pcb and put it in a tkl that's worth your time and money instead of whatever wooting thinks passes for a tkl.
Yeah I saw people mentioning the Venom, but I'm looking for pre-built for now.
Well you said you wanted something end game
Venom could get you an endgame TKL/60% with HE, so maybe keep that in mind while you're shopping for a board
Do you know any other TKL that fit this PCB? I can find this page https://divinikey.com/products/geon-venom-tkl-he-pcb that states: "Keyboard compatibility: Hiney H87c / H87nu PCB Size."
tgr jane v2
frog tkl (og and leggera)
f2-84
f1-8x (all versions)
keycult no.1 and no. 2 tkl
hiney tkl one
spyder tkl
glare tkl
singa jaguar
safa 5.88
merisi ottantaquattro
freebird tkl
almost every single proper custom tkl made in the hobby past a certain point will take h87, it's not that complicated
Hi, I'm looking for a budget full-size standard layout (either ANSI or ISO) keyboard with a dedicated volume knob. It's important to me that the layout actually be standard, but I don't really care whether it's ANSI or ISO, I've used both before. Extra macro keys in normally unused spaces are fine too. It should also come with some sort of tactile switches, with ones that provide a more "thocky" sound preferred but not completely necessary. I don't really care about hotswapping or customizability, I'm probably just going to use it stock. Both wireless and wired are fine, whichever's cheaper. The price should be close to 100-ish USD.
I've found the Keychron V6 Max, which looks basically like what I want, but I've heard there's some drama with Keychron's QC being bad, their support being worse, and even some allegations of credit card fraud after ordering on their website, so maybe it's best I stay away from them (unless these are somehow all fake).
Theres the Galaxy100 from Epomaker, but many of those same QC and support issues apply doubly for Epomaker according to people around here. If you want to risk it though, it does meet your needs as a full-size board with encoder knob. I wouldn't call the switches thocky thiugh, but its made of aluminum if that tickles your fancy.
It's not a standard full size layout, so it definitely won't work for me unfortunately
Keychron v6 or k10, or get a kisnt kn104 and buy tactile switches separately.
Hi, I’m new to mechanical keyboards, but I’ve heard they last much longer than normal membrane keyboards. To be honest, my previous two keyboards were membrane and my first one stopped working after about a year. My current keyboard still works but has connectivity issues with the USB cable so it’s working is inconsistent.
Because of this, I’m thinking of switching to a mechanical keyboard. From my research and the videos I’ve seen mechanical keyboards tend to be more durable and can last many years. I’m looking for a keyboard that is durable for long coding sessions, around 8 hours per day.
I’m not going to use the keyboard for gaming a lot mostly for daily usage, typing and programming.
Here are some features that are important to me:
1. Detachable cable
2. Hot-swappable switches (or replaceable switches)
3. Support for 3-pin or 5-pin switches (no strong preference)
4. Comfortable and reliable for long typing sessions
I want a keyboard that will withstand heavy daily use. If a mechanical keyboard isn’t necessarily the best option, I’m open to other suggestions.
Please let me know what models or recommendations you’d suggest.
Thanks!
I wouldn't necessarily say they are more durable than membrane keyboards. I've had membrane keyboards last up to 15 years, which isn't bad for something that can cost about $15 or even less. For heavy use when I was working in an office I can't ever recall a cheap membrane keyboard actually failing on me, and that's after 20 years.
Having said that, mechanical keyboards are wonderful - for the aesthetic, the tactility and the sound. These are sufficient reasons to want one. And honestly, judging by the comments you get on forums like this, it's not like mechanical keyboards are without their flaws.
But if durability and typing experience is the main thing, I'd recommend you consider one of the older school keyboards before the Chinese OEMs got into the act. Something like a Filco, or a Leopold. Ducky and Varmillo are brands that may be worth considering.
https://thefilco.com
https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/collections/leopold/keyboard
which may be harder to get depending on where you are.
These are also not so much in fashion at the moment. They don't sound as nice as the modern ones, but they have their charm. I have a Leopold 750R and a Bridge75 and I like them the same.
I'd also recommend bypassing the flakey implementation of bluetooth and 2.4ghz wireless dongles and just getting a wired keyboard. This means you'd bypass the annoying little dance of trying to get keyboards to pair to your computer when they don't want to. I've taken all the batteries out of my wireless keyboards cos they just never were very reliable.
Good luck in your search!
That makes a lot of sense and I appreciate you sharing your experience.
My first membrane keyboard cost around $4, and the second one was also under $5. My experience with the first one was actually great but it stopped working after about 6–7 months. It was a wireless keyboard, so I’ve grown a bit skeptical of wireless keyboards since then.
The second one is still a decent keyboard but it has a built-in USB cable and now that the cable is getting damaged, there’s nothing I can really do to fix it. That’s one of the main reasons I’m looking for something that will last longer and won’t have cable-related issues.
I understand and agree with what you’re saying membrane keyboards can be very durable and mechanical keyboards definitely aren’t flawless. I’ve spoken to people who use mechanical keyboards and heard mixed first-hand reviews so I’m not assuming they’re perfect either.
Given my $55 budget, I realize I probably can’t afford a truly good mechanical keyboard right now. That’s why I’m also open to recommendations for membrane keyboards or any other durable options that fit my use case. Durability and a good typing experience matter more to me than aesthetics or sound.
I’ll definitely check out the links you shared, though availability here might be a challenge. And I completely agree about wired keyboards that’s exactly why I’m specifically looking for a wired option and avoiding Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply and share your advice it was genuinely helpful.

No probs, happy to share insights. If you share what country you are located in people may be able to share deals on decent wired keyboards.
I have no idea how much things cost wherever you live - but expecting something under $5 to have a decent wireless implementation is expecting a lot.
But some of the mainstream brands like Logitech offer decent wired membrane boards that should last a while. $55 would not get you much in mechanical keyboard world, unless you are willing to order a lower end model from Ali express. But $55 should get a decent logitech keyboard or even a Microsoft board that will last a while.
If you want a fullsized, 100% keyboard made of aluminum, theres the keychron Q6, the Monsgeek M5, or the QwertyKeys QK101 that you have to build yourself.
Always get a warranty so repairs and coverage are easy. Mechanical keyboards are repairable, but the PCB isn't aside from the 60% form factor.
Thanks for replying I would say am learning many new things about keyboards after putting forward my query .
ehat form factor?
By form factor you mean the keyboard size, right? If I’m understanding correctly 75% or TKL would be ideal for me or anything that at least includes arrow keys. I don’t necessarily need a full-size keyboard, especially since those usually cost more.
id get a neo80
I will check it out thanks for letting me know appreciate it :)
I don't know anything about keyboards, but I just got a Keychron K2HE keyboard, and I am coming from a ROG Strix Scope II keyboard with ROG NX Storm clicky switches. The switches essentially sound like a mouse click when they are actuated. Are there any compatible switches with the K2HE keyboard that have an even somewhat similar feel and sound profile? I think I am wanting some sort of tactile switch based on what I have researched, but I don't know if any are compatible with this keyboard. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Unfortunately, there are no 3rd party HE switches compatible for the K2HE besides the one it currently has. It’s still hotswap but you can only replace the switches with the same type of switch.
HE switches can't be clicky because that clicky/tactile bump will interfere mid-travel because of how HE switches actuate and give keystroke signals.
So no, you don't really have any choice unless you switch to mechanical.
There actually is one HE tactile switch, the Gateron Jade Emerald Tactile HE, so that is your only tactile option, when it comes to HE switches
But like already said a tactile HE switch isn't really a good idea since it defeats the purpose of HE
The only unfortunate issue is tactile isn't clicky.
