I've only drove a small handful of cars in my life, so bare with me.

I just bought a 2020 mini cooper, and the brakes were making a soft grinding noise. So, I went and got them fixed. New pads and rotors on both axels. But this didn't stop the grinding noise at all, do I have another problem or is this normal? Its not even a loud or scary noise, just a subtle grind

I feel like brakes aren't supposed to make any noise, but mine definitely are. Am I just listening too hard? They function fine and don't make any noise other then when I'm braking.

  • Without audio there isn't really an answer we could give. We're shooting pretty blind... or in this case deaf.

    There are a lot of things that can direct my opinion even without the audio. Does it come and go or all the time? If it's not all the time it could be as simple as you're getting overnight rotor rust that's being ground off. If it's all the time it could be pad type, the rotors aren't true, etc.

    It is possible you're fine. If it has a good exhaust, sound deadener/insulation, and quiet tires you'll hear a lot more than you'd expect.

    One of my prior vehicles you could hear everything; the brakes when stopping, injectors when sitting at a light, if it made a noise you could hear it and one of my current vehicles you aren't hearing a thing, except exhaust and tires, unless it's catastrophic.
