When i go for long drives (hours) and its cold. When i stop to get gas or whatever, there's a chance i cannot start the engine without a jump start. may take a couple attempts and it might start. but recently had a case ins 10~ deg F temps it did not start.
Got a battery tester.
verified i set the correct AH for the battery.
Its less then 3 yrs old. Maybe 1.5.
its a Ford Motorcraft. got it from the dealership
results of battery, charge, and crank test in images.
Quick google search says possible starter issue
However with jump start. it starts with NO problem. incredibly smooth
extremely rare times at home doing short drives to the store
When i turn on it may hiccup then start.
like you can hear it cranking 1 or 2 times then it starts
I currently do a check engine light for my heated oxygen sensor 2 bank 1 with low voltage
I pulled that code using a wireless OBD2 sensor using the Torque Pro app
any idea what to check next or something i need to replace right away? that may resolve this
I am in the works to replace that sensor if i can find videos on how to and if im able to.
My mechanical skills are medium to low.
i have a 2018 5.0 v8 XLT

sounds like a bad battery, these testers aren’t perfect. also that O2 sensor is a pretty quick job with the right adapter. I got a $20 sensor off eBay that cleared my CEL
would having it retested at an autozone, orielly etc provide more accurate results?
And if it passes there do you think it would still be the battery.
Im hesitant in going back to the dealership.
I did it out of covenience one time.
They threw away my k&n air filter, sandpapered my brand new passenger side windshielf wipers that i had just put on less than 24hrs before going
and paid for 2 tire repairs and they only did one
When i went back they said they checked their footage and they denied all claims but didn't want to show me the footage.
So yeah im never going back and not worth the cost to take them to court
nah autozone would use a similar reader
ill more than likely go ahead and replace the battery. im just trying to be cost effective. but looking up prices of starter, alternator and battery. yeah its the cheapest lol
Bad battery most likely. Cranking voltage is getting low. A new battery will be around 11v cranking.
Battery should be 12.6v key off. Above 9.6 cranking but closer to 11 new, around 13.5 to 14v with engine running. When checking running voltage make sure to load up the battery by turning on defrosters and headlights etc. to make sure the alternator can handle a load. Voltage drop test positive and negative battery cables, should be close to 0v
gotcha.
I appreciate.
with the comments and same thing i posted on the f150 subredit just incase
All pointing to bad battery.
So i'll get it replaced
Are the battery terminals tight? They shouldn’t move if you grab and twist (within reason) with your hand.
What are the symptoms when it won’t start? Does it crank (make the wrrr wrrr wrrr noise)? Does it crank very slowly? Does it make a clicking noise? Any noise? Are the lights on the dash dim when this happens?
Next time it doesn’t start, what voltage does your tester say?
No lights are ever dim. The cranking is very slow If it starts when I have the issue it cranks two maybe 3x then turns over
When it doesn't start I only let it attempt to crank two cranks
I never get clicking sounds
From other comments and based on the pics, ruled down to the CCA is to low and battery needs replaced.
