I've loved this estate (830ish acres) for years and figured I'd finally share it with everyone else. the american flag really jolts you back to remembering this is in new hampshire and not an european countryside

Without exception, I always forget it's Thursday.
Great house!
"I always forget it's thursday" could be the motto of this sub (and same)
This is such a uniquely fine house because it was designed by architect Charles A. Platt. This particular house, among others in Cornish, NH, by Platt, was built in 1904. Platt also built a home for himself in Cornish, NH.
It's as if he read my mind and designed my perfect house.
I think Platt did that for a lot of the people he designed homes for. I'm from the Cleveland area, and he designed one of his smaller homes for a mining magnate, William Gwinn Mather, on the shores of Lake Erie. The house and its unique design were widely known among architects, artists, society types, and influential people in Cleveland and across the region. It certainly elevated the already considerable status of its owner; his new wife married in part for his house.
The garden is gorgeous. I love that they've let it grow slightly wild. Gives it more character
I LOVE an artfully untamed property. not wild in a way that it looks unkempt, but wild in a way that lets nature be nature
Yes, it gives that certain and genuine lovely bohemian vibe!
That east wing needs to come down for a bigger ballroom. And that garden….
And I didnt see any spot to host children’s beauty pageants
Ouch!
The perfect location for Federal fugitives to hide out.
I would move to NH for this.
But then you’d have to live in Cornish…
I’m not up to speed on the areas of New Hampshire. Is Cornish no bueno?
The extent of my knowledge on New Hampshire is “Live Free or Die”…
Cornish is… fine? Definitely lovely to drive through but it’s just that there’s really nothing out in that part of the state. Western NH is very rural.
Thanks for the insight.
It's beautiful but imo the photographer needs to watch their white balance. All the interior photos have a greenish tint that makes the place look damp and almost mildewy. I actually don't mind it as an artistic look, but not for real estate.
It’s getting to the point where it’s hard to tell what’s AI and what’s real in real estate “photography”
This is such a uniquely fine house because it was designed by architect Charles A. Platt. This particular house, among others in Cornish, NH, by Platt, was built in 1904. Platt also built a home for himself in Cornish, NH.
Platt was the leading architect of country homes for the American elite in the first decades of the 20th century. If you are familiar with architectural history and the story of the elaborate Prairie House that Frank Lloyd Wright proposed for Harold McCormick, Jr. around 1908, Charles A. Platt is the guy who got the job instead of Wright. Some consider this lost project to have been a contributing factor in Wright's decision to close his Oak Park office and run off to Europe with his mistress.
The Queen's boobs look well-rubbed. For luck I assume.

Thank Goodness Christmas lands on a Thursday. it's like another present to just look at all the beautiful homes today.
Thursday is such a great palate cleanser.
This property is exquisite and comes with donkeys!
Would make for an okay summer home if not for the lack of pool. I guess I’ll keep looking.
in all seriousness, it did dawn on me that if I were ever in a position to purchase this (lol) in the future, my sharing it here would put it on more people's radar
I don’t think people that can afford to buy these homes spend a terrible amount of time reading stuff here.
Uh you've never been on r/watches I presume.
No I have small wrists so the watch hobby just isn’t for me.
Unless you put an Invicta on Ariana Grande in reality no one will ever be able to notice it a watch is too large or too small. Plus smartphone cameras have a fisheye effect up close so what appears a monstrosity when taking a wrist selfie looks proportional when taken from a distance.
Live your life!
In NH? Probably too cold to use one most of the time.
New Hampshire is gorgeous. But the day we moved back south, it was -15 degrees with two feet of snow on the ground. I don't miss that.
$2.3M for a gorgeous 5,000 sq ft manor and 830 freaking acres tells me there is an entirely isolated tribe of cannibals who live on the next plot.
Realistically it's probably a full gut job and with absolutely nothing be up to code or standardized at the turn of the century you'd probably spend $10M to get it where it needs to be to actually live and enjoy.
I'm almost 70 and I'm like, "I'd love to live there, but how long does it take to get to a doctor's appointment?"
I did a quick google and saw it's close to lebanon, which I think is a relatively populous area, so there's at least one small city nearby. 27 minutes, to be exact. I'm sure there's more options than lebanon as it's also on the border of vt, but that's the first I saw and was familiar with by name
eta: 20 minutes to claremont, another city (both have hospitals, etc.). honestly not bad considering I live in boston and it still takes me around 20 minutes to get to one of the major hospitals in boston for medical appointments
Totally right, it's a funny region like that. Even the most rural or backwoods looking places you can get to are usually no more than 20-30 min away from everything, assuming the road conditions are good. You really have to go up north to find the kind of isolated-rural people think of if they're coming from somewhere like the Midwest.
Ooh. I have driven through Boston. It's um interesting.
The house is not my taste but I love the gardens.
Those gardens are heaven!
This reminds me a bit of the house in great expectations. Gorgeous!
Dream home: unlocked
Cornish is an interesting town. It abuts a massive private game reserve. When a fake Rockefeller (who is currently serving time for murder) moved into the town, the town was like gurlllllllllllllllllllll, no. He also destroyed one of the town's best gardens.
The hot tea on this house is that the driveway is death-defying.
I used to go out of my way to visit the general store in Cornish to try to run into J. D. Salinger, and probably did so many times without realizing it.
Oh my GOD
I am with you here.
Gorgeous
Absolutely epic & so lush & gorgeous.
The surroundings are beautiful.
Yo would love Plas Brondanw by Clough William Ellis
https://www.cloughwilliamsellis.org/Garden
Beautiful. Not many interior photos.
I love the garden and surroundings
The garden alone is worth it, and then you see the house! ❤️
The twin chairs look like a brilliant spot to enjoy some tea in photo 8.
NEW HAMPSHIRE?!? I was expecting European. Looks like I need to visit NH.
Not many pictures of the home, but it's plenty of property.
Gorgeous
:))). beautiful
I would love the entire exterior
Meant to say I would buy for the outside alone. Not interested in interior. I prefer ranch style homes with lots of windows and beautiful wood.
❤️
reminds me of Tomb Raider Laura Croft's mansion
This place is gorgeous. 10/10 would visit you here.
The grounds! 🤯😍❤️❤️❤️
Ooh, the library! The sunroom! The maintained but not manicured garden!
Really showcases how nice landscaping can add so much to a house.
Despite contrary belief, I kinda like this
Grounds need some better care. But,nice place.
7500 total sq. ft. 5 bedrooms.
Two full bathrooms.
I don't know where you read that. six beds, two full bath, two half bath. finished sq ft is 5k. unfinished is 7k. I think four bathrooms is plenty, but I will also die on the hill that double sinks in bathrooms are the dumbest desire ever and people can share or simply not use the sink at the same exact second out of a 24hr day so what do I know..
Yep it's a beautiful house in that part of the state but boy that garden needs a little refreshing. It's a tough zone to do it right for a formal garden but it can be done but much more limited selection of plants than the landscape designer would like.. It's frustrating. Love New Hampshire have a house there but sitting in Los Angeles at the moment where you can grow anything
