Does anyone know the source of this terrible burning smell? Reminds me of burning leaves or something. Absolutely unbreathable, happens almost at nights, very often. Remember similar smell years ago when leaved in Richardson and closer to Dallas.
My husband swore he kept smelling cigarette smoke or something acrid smelling at 3AM and again early morning. It woke him and could be smelt inside the house. None of our neighbors smoke.
Hard to say.. I can swear though it's something burning.
I live near new houses construction , and while had a specific smell to it, this ain't it. This smell is so strong and so burning-like, very distinctive.
Not sure why you’ve been downvoted, we do have some of the worst air quality in terms of ozone pollutants. We are classified as a “severe non-attainment area” Texas DEQ Link but that is ozone level, not something to cause the smell OP is concerned about.
Tbf it depends where OP lives. Closer they are to the counteyside more likely it is really just some guys burning leaves or some shit. When I lived in Anna, there was always some odd smell at times.
You're not crazy, I smell it every night leaving work. I think maybe it's a bbq restaurant or something burning wood. I live on the far west side of McKinney and don't smell it there
Do you have a mulch facility nearby? The one off Royal Ln in Dallas can put a stench out that sounds similar to what you’re describing. It comes and goes with the wind and whatever they’ve got going on that day.
Roughly what part of McK do you live in ?
Near Baylor on 380
Then yes, that’s the Melissa landfill unfortunately!!
That’s misinformation, it’s actually the feed lot that sits right behind the landfill.
Yes, it’s the feed lot. My husband and I would argue if it was the dump or feed lot. Then one day we passed the feed lot and he was right. Terrible.

Yeah, you could say it's like a smell of bad strong cigarettes. Very strong smell.
I asked elsewhere and people said it could be a dump in Melissa, and based on wind direction you can smell it.
I doubt it's healthy and legal to do this.
I'm not being dramatic- but I literally couldn't breath normally when I stepped outside
As long as they continue to pass TCEQ inspections and permit processes for their landfill they are absolutely following legal procedures.
We are close to the airport and thought maybe construction? There’s a ton of it with the expansion.

The normal smell that you smell is not from the dump, its from that huge cattle feed lot next to it.
Is it the flesh burning off of everyone in McKinney due to the extreme heat?
Everyone in McKinney is Dead
This is true
When was the last time you changed your furnace filters? And/or had your air vents cleaned?
The smell is outside of the house, I don't smell anything inside. Glad to have good insulation
Was working on an outage in McKinney last night and we were wondering what that stank was too, thought my generator was catching fire
I’m assuming it the Melissa landfill. They always are burning shit too.
The DFW has among the worst air quality in the entire country

Maybe, don't even know! Thanks, I will check around
It’s the landfill
They do not burn at the dump so its not that.
They very much do burn off methane gas, they have huge flares sometimes!
Burning methane doesnt smell.
But the mountain of garbage does!
