I know people are gonna say it’s either all in my head, or I didn’t think it was possible with FME. But Dr. Newaz and Dr. Jaffari confirmed the asymmetry in person - meaning there is something about how my CBCT scans are leveled that mask my asymmetries.

  • I think it’s missing from the space is knowing the fact that you have to align the cervical spine and the face before doing any expansion. That’s something that providers. Don’t realize some providers are learning about it. I’m getting a special splint to put my mandible in the right place before starting expansion, which is also gonna get the cervical spine in the right place and I mean as best as possible. Perfect isn’t possible but as best as you could to avoid these kind of issues.

Umm, how do I know the orthodontist who make the splint will put my lower jaw in the right position? Why does the cervical spine go off alignment when the lower jaw is pushed backwards? And how do I know the cervical spine is twisted?

Dentists who use Dr. CHAN splint go to training by him and he has a bunch of different tools to make the jaw go to the right place. Nothing’s perfect because obviously growth didn’t develop the way it was supposed to, but I think it’s the best tool out there. It also cost a lot of money. I think the splints are about $5000. If you’d like you can go follow someone on TikTok called Green city dentalshe uses his splints. There’s also a guy named Dr. Sid Solomon on TikTok who post videos about it.

Yeah, thanks! I don’t live in the US tho.

I’m not the original commenter however, these are all questions I am going to try and find the answers to. I’ll put what I find on YouTube as well. I think a lot of us would like to know

    Thank you so much! :)

I’m learning this is most likely quite true, and may be one of the reasons some people get unexpected asymmetrical expansion when everything appears to be going well. I’m gonna create some more videos as I journey through the world of chiropractors, PTs, cranial osteopaths, and more, to get their take on it. Already I’ve spoken with a science-based chiro who believes you can’t separate the skull from the c1 and c2, since the skull is controlled by those.

Please check out dr jason scoppa and clayton chans jaw splints. It might actually be worth having a consultation with Dr. Jason because he knows so much about this.

Thank you for this recommendation. I’m gonna look into them both. 🫶🏼

  • I would be curious what other doctors would say, like Dr. Manuele. In the video you said that two other people who reviewed the scans did not find asymmetry, so it seems like the jury's still out on the issue despite Newaz confirming it.

I’ve asked Dr. Manuele to weigh in on the issue! To be continued…

    Oh nice. Suspense.

  • Is it just me or your lower jaw has changed as well???

Following your journey after we spoke on dms that day. Your expansion looks amazing.

Well hey, thanks! Not sure about my lower jaw, but there’s been a lot of moving parts so everything keeps looking different to me 😆. Also, hi!

  • As someone that will be most likely flying to US from eastern europe for FME, I'm super scared of something going wrong and not having anyone with expertise nearby to consult. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Tbh with FME the risk of things going wrong like failure and asymmetry is pretty low. Most cases have quite symmetrical expansion. There have been some failures but the risk for that is decreasing as Facegenics continues to improve the FME (eg the current version, FME 4.5, is a significant improvement upon the previous, initial FME, and they are also releasing FME Pro in the coming months which would be a further improvement).

Fme pro? Where is FMA they even talked about

The travel part makes it harder - because if there is a complication, it gets more expensive with the travel. I highly recommend trying to find a local orthodontist who is willing to work in collaboration with Dr. Newaz. The hardest part though is finding someone - I find a lot of doctors don’t want the liability 😭 but if you could find someone local to check on things for you, it eases a lot of financial stress and worry

  • Is it bad? 😭

Not too bad, since we caught it early!

  • Better to stop expanding here probably idk what your measurements are but your smile already looks very full

  • How do you guys afford all of this?

It’s literally breaking the bank 😭 And I travel from CA to the east coast and that really hurts my pockets as well. To answer your question though I saved $$ during covid.

Yeah, I understand. It’s a terrible situation. I was butchered with extractions and retraction at the extreme side of the spectrum when I was young. It caused so many health issues and problems. Ruined everything from sports to jobs and career, basically every aspect of my life.

Ugh this is terrible to hear. I am so sorry. I hope you are able to find a way forward despite it all 🥺

Yeah thank you. I really just want tips on how to afford fixes.
