People often ask what are the differences between the various adult palatal expanders. Here they are for you to see. Cosmetically, they’re all a little different, but essentially serve the same function.
MARPE is the most common. There is some argument that expanders with molar arms cause a negligible amount of teeth tipping. It’s one of the reasons I chose FME, among others. :)
Yeah I think DOME uses le fort cuts which detach the maxilla from the nasal floor, so it’s good for more controlled maxillary expansion, not so good for increasing nasal volume for better breathing.

I’m not sure I would say that. But what they told me is they do all the cuts when I’m under, then install the MARPE and open it up all the way, which shows them where I will end up. If things are off, then they make more cuts to get it to open the way they want. Then they close the MARPE. Then i slowly turn it over time, which apparently gives my maxilla time to remodel bone as it’s done.
DOME (Distraction Osteogenesis for Maxillary Expansion) is a surgical technique that goes along with expansion - so based on the provider, any of these devices can be used with DOME.
Thank you for the answer, 1.5 sounds great considering it’s mainly bone widening, I guess changes already noticeable, do you see any changes except palate like eyes, cheekbones or something? May I ask you if fme while widening the palate also makes it’s flatter? It’s known trait ppl with gothic palate getting longer face overall so I’m wondering if this could help or it won’t reduce the height only adding width?
I think it’s dependent on everyone’s anatomy tbh. I’m not really sure yet if I believe FME avoids this. I am someone with a long face so I am waiting to see what happens when I’m done with treatment.
Yeah, my face is long too but mostly in the lower maxilla (pre-maxilla/palate area) at least I guess so as it’s long in a philtrum area that’s why I’m curious if it could help to not only extend width of the palate but also lower it, basic physics wise it sounds possible as to achieve the widening the height should be decreased but ik it’s much more complicated when talking about bones, so I guess time will show, I subscribed your yt channel to watch results!

FME looks by far the most comfortable, the molar arms touching teeth really scares me and makes me uncomfy lol
Those molar arms are definitely uncomfortable. It’s a big reason why I chose FME for my second expansion.
What about DOME?
Dome is does not effect the naso-maxillary complex, only widening the upper jaw, is good , if you only need space for teeth

Would it still widen the cheekbones? Or does it only widen the mouth basically? Why would one even do that if it doesn't help with breathing?

I got 1.5mm currently, and FMA is still not available to the public 😭

I haven’t noticed any facial changes this time around yet. And yeah, the FMA updates feel bleak at times. 😭
