• It’s terrible

It's not even really the same show. Wtf

    It’s aesthetically pleasant tho

  • I know Aziz has to be hip and cool and not use the word "spin-off" but they should have just said this is a spin-off.

Yeah, I’m watching the season 3 right now but I wanna happened to Francesca and Dev fairy tail

Sounds like Francesca didn´t gather the courage to leave her fiance

I was like, wait a minute, what happened to everyone else on the show? I felt like they totally "jumped the shark" and were over the entire thing - when the first seasons were SOOOOO GOOOOOD. WHAT HAPPENED?!

  • Let's throw in alt camera ratio, linger unnecessarily, woke themes, 'talking only', rando countryside, and have the big man take a super humble role of downtrodden nobody.

Trying hard with the ingredients, but you need the rest, which wasn't there.

It was kind of a nice try, but we all want the Real Aziz back.

Just startet watching..15 min in, I'm wondering when enything will start.. about to close.. but i liked the first two season, so i wonder if its worth staying

What are "woke themes"? And don't say black people and gay people existing, that's quite stupid. Like saying the show Friends had "hetero themes."

Turns out you were right, that’s exactly what they meant by “woke themes” 🙄

They don't like it because of the "perceived" woke themes lol. I can understand if you just thought this season was boring, but "woke themes"? Lol

  • Such a great venture into something completely different. Not for everyone, but I loved this

    [deleted]

Yeah, I was so happy when I saw that there was a 'season 3 available', because this show had such a positive energy in it's first two seasons.

I was disappointed on the first 20 minutes, but stayed because it was a beautifully told story. On the other hand, I don't think I will finish it soon, since im in no mood to watch something that is SO close to the depressing times we live in.

Umm the other shows you are watching are heavier than that?

It’s good. But it has no right to be called “Master of None”.

  • Just binged the season this morning.

  • Damn I loved the new season. It’d been so long I didn’t even realize it was connected to the first two seasons.

    Well then it wasn’t huh?

  • It completely blew. That is just my opinion, though. This felt like a safe move given the culture of our current society. Pure Ass.

Nothing about this season seemed "safe" to me. This was risky. Safe would have been continuing in the same vein as season 1 and 2, which were wildly popular.

It's dumb to blame not liking season 3 on "cancel culture" or our current society, whatever that means. The fundamental problem with season 3 was that it should have a completely different name. If this was just a movie or a new series that Aziz had made, separate from the Master of None title/universe, reactions would be very different.

I liked season 3 for what it was, a slow paced, artsy, often depressing but contemplative mini-series. It just wasn't Master of None. If Aziz wanted to direct a drama more power to him, but it needed a completely different name.

Fair. I agree in a way about the safe choice. You’re right safe would have been the show I expected.

I do hope we get a real new season of Master of None someday. Or at least more films/tv shows from Aziz that have a little more of the levity of MoN seasons 1 and 2. I did think season 3 was pretty good as a drama completely unrelated to MoN, but I miss the dramedy and style of seasons 1 and 2.

I´m wondering if they´re able to make a continuation of MoN from season 2 since season 3 showed a pretty depressing glimpse into Dev´s life where he basically loses everything he has had. I can only see it going from like the point that was shown in season 3

They could. MoN is about stages of life. In seasons 1 and 2 Aziz is living in a bubble of mild success and youth. In season 1 his drama is relatively low stakes i.e. how does he handle a relationship, while living in a nice apartment in an expensive city and fooling around with his friends. In season 2 he lucks his way into fantasy scenarios, moving to Italy to make pasta, stumbling into a relationship with a gorgeous local Italian woman who leaves her partner for him, etc.

The glimpse we get of Aziz in season 3 is the wake up call. Our 20s don't last forever, and movie fantasies are usually just that - fantasies. We all go through high highs and low lows in our life, and seasons 1 and 2 were Aziz's high points in his youth. They weren't always easy, but there was an airy, weightless quality to them. Even moments of drama and contemplation existed in the realm of comedy or the fantastical, to an extent.

Season 4 would show a more mature Aziz, who'd bounced back from his darkness of season 3, but has lost some of the idyllicalness and naivety of seasons 1 and 2. As someone approaching their mid-30s, this progression speaks to me. My 20s were well represented by season 1 and 2. Season 3 would represent my wake up call that our 20s don't last forever, and seeing my own mortality flicker on the horizon for the first time in my life, and season 4 would be lifting myself back out of that miasma and embracing life as a slightly older person in a new stage of life.

The ages don't line up perfectly, Aziz is a few years older than me, but I can still see this as a natural progression.

Oh my gosh. I absolutely love this analysis. I think that if they make it in that way than it would make this series so much deeper than it already is. Holy shit! I hope someone from the crew sees your comment and takes inspiration because it´s really good!

Also kind of an interesting perspective to see as someone who´s only at the beginning of their twenties...

disagree. this was safe in the fact that aziz is basically uninvolved because he got "cancelled" for no good reason. unsafe would have been getting right back on the horse and finishing the actual storyline that hooked viewers in the first place

OMG I didn´t know about that scandal up until now and I was so confused reading about it because it was so similar to what happened in season two with this BBF cooking show

Safe move despite people panning it?

  • I've been anxiously awaiting the return and get this garbage instead.

  • I didn’t even get through the first episode. 👎🏻

  • This was the best series on Netflix because of Dev's life and funny personality. I was expecting season 3 to be a progression from season 2 by seeing him with Francesca and maybe becoming the successful actor he aspires to or do something else. I like Denese but it should be a spin off with its own identity not a progression from Master of None. I hope season 4 goes back to Dev and we can see the funny side of him.

  • Is it over yet? That was painful.
Aziz, please go back to what works.

Something I could’ve watched on 2.5x speed. Disappointed. It’s like craving a Kit Kat and going to the store asking for one and getting a mounds bar.

I do not like mounds bars. :|

Yeah, the season was absolutely painful -- not funny, hardly any plot, slow as fuck, and fully disappointing in the characters.

It’s just not anywhere near the same show. Should be master of none 2.5 or something. No Arnold, no NY adventures, No Dev. It went from a well thought out comedy with introspective lessons and themes to some slow ass artistic film. All the characters we fell in love with gone. Season 2 was a masterpiece and left off with a huge cliff hanger. And wtf all we got was a few minutes of a very depressed dev.

  • I am really loving it

  • This is good for falling asleep to on such a rainy day. That's about it. What a major letdown.

Edit: I finished it. It would have been good if they didn't make it "Season 3". It should have been called a spin off.

  • Real talk: Do lesbians casually and calmly cheat on each other that frequently?

No. Like all relationships, each couple is different. This isn’t representing every single lesbian in existence. It’s a portrayal of one couple.

    1. These are very narrow results from one (or two) studies in the US - not "a lot of" studies at all.
    2. This article doesn't specify lesbian relationships, but seems to focus on those involving gay men
    3. DV is not cheating, which was your original question
    4. I'm a lesbian, so I think I can speak accurately about the 'scene'. Lesbians are actually so committed and obsessed with each other when in relationships that there are several tropes and in-jokes within the lesbian community. Cheating is not as common in lesbianism as it is in heterosexual or gay male relationships.
  • I was so excited when I saw a new season of one of my favorite Netflix series, but this isn't what I was looking for :(

  • I love artistic expression as much as the next guy but damn this was bad

  • The right Turn from the first two seasons only works if you balance the new story with the established plot line. This wasn’t that

  • Fucking disappointing what the actual fuck did I watch? Lockdowns and the pandemic continues to stifle people’s fucking creativity.

I would argue that this is the exact opposite of stifling creativity. Aziz took a huge risk here. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but he is doing what he wants to do and I respect that.

Oh man, that was not at all fun. The story could have been told in one episode. It completely lacked the charm of the first two seasons.

Yeah I wouldn't exactly describe it as fun haha. I thought episode 4 was fantastic though. And episode 1 for that matter.

I would give it a solid "ok". Master of None was a great comedy, this show season was a mediocre drama.

This sums it up nicely. It also did a huge disservice to the characters and the storyline imo.

    We respect his risk.

That doesn't mean it was good.

The themes he chose to address make it bullet proof from a critical perspective, but in reality, they didn't like it either and it won't age well.

Aziz is really sharp and funny, I'll bet most of us want him back.

    Who is they?

Also, I am curious as to how this self contained little season won't age well. What about it do you think won't age well? Do you mean the story won't age well, or do you mean season 3 as part of the larger picture won't age well for people getting in to the series a f ew years down the line?

    [deleted]

Because I didn't think it was bad.

See I thought he was on the outs and had not much to do w this since that dumb bitch said he was a bad date

I'm fairly certain he wrote and directed every single episode in this season. He was definitely behind the camera 99% of the time, but he is still working.

  • I wish it wasn't. It's terrible 😞

I agree, I stopped watching after the first 20 minutes. I hate when showrunners do this. I get that he wanted to try something else, but people loved this show for a reason and this has literally NOTHING to do with the original show. Really disappointing

    Literally nothing!

  • AHHHHH... I just saw it on my Netflix home and immediately came here to see!! I can't wait

    [deleted]

    Did Aziz make this?

Oh. oh ok. considering myself tempered. lol

    You'll be disappointed.

  • I’m so sad

  • Stopped watching after ep 1

  • I watched it and it wasn't bad to me but it sorta reminded me of when they did the Coma seasons in "Archer". Like one or two seasons of this is fine but anything more than that is gonna get old. As it is, it's been forever since season 2.

I WANT MORE DEV AND HIS ADVENTURES!!

  • Just started episode three, and so far this season sucks. The relationship drama going on is a major downer.

I think Aziz has been in this season a total of 10 minutes so far.

    *Edit

I tapped out on episode four. I can't watch anymore of this.

  • I was so late to find out the new episodes dropped. Finished them all last night

I wast so late to findeth out the new episodes did drop. Did finish those folk all last night of all

I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.

  • Everyone seems to have a lot of complaints but really tho why is the camera fucking square 👁👄👁

  • I saw that season 3 came out but waited anxiously til yesterday to watch it. Its horrible, completely different show.

  • After bingeing season 1 and 2, this season definitely hit me out of nowhere. I think I’ll revisit the season along time from now and watch it as a single piece unrelated to the show.

  • yeah it wasnt for me. I mean, I didnt disliked it, but I was expecting somthing else... asiz made the wrong move here...

  • Just came to say this season felt like aziz’s metoo apology tour. ‘Look, I’m not a bad guy, I’m woke!’

Nothing wrong with exploring those themes it’s just, not his style and in the end we got a very long season of awkward drawn out camera shots, boring dialogue and no real charm.

  • Not a bad season. I was really watching it for Aziz. But this is cool too.
