Want more Mariners discussion? Have you tried the Mariners discord?

  • Anybody know where we’re at as far as Geno? I’ve seen rumors of him going to the Pirates or the Red Sox. I’m really hoping we can somehow keep him. Feel like he was more of a pivotal piece in our run last season than most people realize.

  • "Keeping tabs" on free agent activity is one thing, but waiting until all the dominoes have fallen will not cut the mustard! (Oh my!) Comes a time when you have to get 'er done (so it won't be another "We really tried, and we were in in, but..." situation). Hoping J & J and co. don't end up "giving away the farm" to get another bat. Some potential moves (via trade) seem unwise, because in order to help our team by acquiring a prized hitter, you may have to give away high quality hitting and/or pitching, thereby providing little if any overall improvement to the roster. Perhaps this is why we haven't seen a blockbuster move for our team thus far. The asking price has probably been too high... (Maybe very soon sign a free agent you truly value?) Dominoes...dominoes...Work the mojo, fellas!!

  • Looks like I was wrong about today. Can't say I'm not a bit bummed about how things have gone. Don't get me wrong, so glad to have Josh back. But was still hoping for some real fireworks after coming within 3 innings of the World Series.

  • Loving the momentum Felix’s HOF candidacy is seeing

  • Some interesting things happening today…you uhh…gonna partake Jerry?

  • Does anyone else feel a little salty about the Mets snagging polo out from us? I want success for Jorge but really starting to dislike this version of Mets FO and ownership.

I think it's weird the way the Mets choose to spend their money and build their team, but I'm not salty towards them at all. I'm happy Polo got his bag, and now our FO needs to pivot to fill that role, because from what Divish has said this offseason, it seems like they really thought Polo coming back was a lock.

Yeah rationally I totally get it but in practice them letting Pete walk and scooping up polanco is going to really complicated our off-season. I'm not expecting any trades or any more fa maybe Geno if we get him for cheap. That's probably unpopular opinion but I don't see us paying what Arizona or STL want for those guys and Lowe is gone. Chicago has no reason to move horner now wait til the deadline he'll be just as valuable.

If anything I am upset the Mariners didn’t match the offer. An extra 5 million AAV for two years isn’t going to break the bank. And whatever they spend in prospect capital to replace polo getting his replacement will likely cost more than the $5 million a year.

I am agree with this too but I wonder if getting into a bidding war with the Mets was just something Jerry didn't want to take on.

From what I have seen reported it seems the Mariners put a value on a player and stick to that. The Mets offer exceeded the value. I mean Polo isn’t worth the $20.

But replacing him is more expensive than the extra 5 mil.

Yeah, I don't think it's about bidding wars as much as putting a price on a player in terms of how you see your situation and presenting it. This goes for JS and the seahawks as well.

No? They’re just doing their job and signing free agents

  • Nothing is happening in the baseball world, then I go into meetings for two hours and an ace gets moved, a three team trade occurs, a reliever signs.

Has the three team trade actually been finalized? I’ve only seen talk about what it would look like

I just saw something that’s it being finalized now. I saw enough on it from reputable enough sources I thought it was done already earlier. Who knows when it will get formally announced.

Yeah looks like passan posted about it about 50 minutes ago, at the time of my comment he hadn’t so I figured it was still getting discussed

Ace is a stretch with Baz

Yeah I think I had him confused with one of their other pitchers

  • Lowe off the trade market. One fewer option.

Viable paths for meaningful improvements to the lineup are slowly closing in, and it's likely only raising the cost of acquiring one of the remaining options. Need a move here soon.

He always felt like option 4 behind Marte, Polanco and Donovan.

There is definitely more pressure to land one of Marte or Donovan now.

Yeah. As much as I'd love Marte I just don't see this FO giving up the necessary prospect capital AND committing to a long term contract to someone entering his mid-30s.

Which pretty much means it's Donovan or bust - not a great situation in terms of leverage.

Thats kind of true. But at this point, Lowe is more comparable to Polonco than he is any of the real infield options we've talked about.

And? It’s one less available bat. This raises the asking price for the remaining available bats like Donovan or Marte

    100%. Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted

Seems like a ton of comments in the thread are downvoted for no reason. Salty Rams fans that are banned from r/seahawks maybe?

Haha yeah could be. I see a lot of people downvote valid comments in this sub all the time without responding. Like it’s fine if people disagree, but back it up

a lot of our fans think that our prospects are proven MLB talent rather than prospects and don't see a reason to trade them

  • does anyone have the "we're so back, it's so over" graph meme?

  • Need to keep riding this Seahawk high today, Jerry. Give us a big trade buddy!

  • Stoked for spring training so I don't have to come in here and read about the Seahawks every day

  • Can’t help but notice Rays are set up beautifully for a Marte trade now. Just traded Lowe and Baz and received a truckload of promising prospects.

If anything it’s be the opposite. Baz was probably one of the more desirable pieces AZ would’ve wanted. And if they do want prospects we’d still be far and away more set up to do that

Disagree, at least on paper it seems the rays are cutting salaries and going into a rebuild. Hopefully Jerry checks in on Diaz. If they were going for Marte they wouldn’t have sent Baz away.

AZ isn't looking for prospects, though. They want established starting pitching - which the Rays just traded away.

Reports a week ago were saying AZ wanted Baz and Pepiot.

So i would say it's less likely now

I don’t think the diamondbacks will want prospects that are as far out as the guys the rays got though. They seem to want to try to stay competitive

  • HOLY BUCKETS!

I had no idea the Seahawks won last night!

I went to bed thinking the Rams got this. So happy. I hate the Rams so much! This makes my day. This is a good start to start my day for sure.

The Seahawks are legit. They can win the Super Bowl this year.

I am all in on them.

  • Baz is also being traded away from Rays. Things are happeneing.

Jerry’s eye has been twitching all morning

    Interested to see that return

Rays will get outfielder Slater de Brun, catcher Caden Bodine, right-hander Michael Forret, outfielder Austin Overn and a Competitive Balance Round A draft pick

    Per Passan

Edit: De Brun is #6 prospect and Bodine is #10. Neither seem to be ready until '29 at the earliest.

    That is rich

Zero top-100 prospects though. It's quantity over quality for 3 years of starting pitcher control.

Still, trading a whole bunch of teenaged prospects to a division rival, and the Rays in particular.... Oof. That's gonna hurt in a few years.

I Forgot to mention, from Baltimore.

  • I don't know much about scouting practices, especially in the modern era. Does the existence of the WPBL starting up next year present heightened opportunity for women to get MLB/MiLB scouting opportunities, if players demonstrate specific stat lines or achievement, more than like, college softball does as they're playing on like, 90 ft baselines and stuff?

What sorts of things signal to a team for scouts to pop on out typically, like to someodd college or high school squad?

If anyone in the WPBL is so far ahead of her peers as to be MLB-worthy, it would be exceptionally obvious and wouldn't really require having scouts there at all times because she would be absolutely dominating the league. I think you're underestimating how severe the gap in talent between the two is going to be.

I'm more interested in it as a possibility rather than any hypothesis of talent gaps, like if someone was baja blasting would it be a better place for that to catch an eye than someone playing extremely well at college-level softball. How much does the similarity of the playfield and rules and stuff change the skill eval process.

Realistically, it will change nothing, because the talent gap is massive and not hypothetical.

Do MLB teams scout the Australian Baseball League or the Chinese Professional Baseball League at all, would be a similar enough question, and if so, how?

would be a similar enough question

It isn't, because those are mens teams. I really do not think you're grasping reality here.

  • Trade rumors of 3 team trade. Astros, Rays, Pirates the deal would send Brandon Lowe to Pittsburgh and right-hander Mike Burrows to Houston. There would be multiple other players involved as well.

I didn’t want Lowe so actually not a bad thing.

Lowe moving could hurt the Mariners' negotiating power with one less pivot point. Also will be interesting to see what the Rays are looking to get in return. Lots of debate whether or not they will be trying this season.

Lot of people haven't realized that the Rays have a new owner, and he is incentivized to raise payroll for political reasons around a new stadium and getting the city of Tampa back on board after Sternberg burned a lot of bridges.

That makes sense but it is also burned in the Ray's DNA to sell on dudes with 1 year left. I just didn't know if they would be looking for MLB talent or prospects. Looks like its prospects though.

I just mean in terms of payroll.

Their FO is still going to prioritize moving off guys before it's too late, and Lowe's a classic case of that: getting older, getting more expensive than he's probably worth, history of back injuries. Over 140 games once in his career, you're getting a below average 2B whose bat relies on power to provide value, and who's probably not going to play more than 100-130 games for you - if things don't get worse.

Yeah not great for the Mariners leverage in a Donovan trade

Sounds like it is the Stros #3 and #7 prospects Jacob Melton and Anderson Brito. Not sure either guy would be in our top 10, so it's not much of a return.

Not even close to top 100 prospects

Lowe to the Pirates makes a lot of sense. I honestly am not a huge fan of Lowe, he hits bombs but has a hard time staying healthy, SO a lot and is not good defensively. I would much prefer Marte, Donovan, Hoerner or even Cronenworth. Hopefully it isn't a big return so the asking price on the other guys goes down a bit.

  • Today feels like the day. Get some moves in before the holiday week.

Nah Jerry is waiting to make his moves on Christmas Eve. Hasn't stopped him in the past.

Woke up with the same feeling. If not today, I would bet this weekend.

  • I miss baseball. But after last night's Seahawks game idk if I can handle them and Mariners being stressful.

  • Damn Matt Strahm to KC, would have been a great option to add to the pen.

Pretty reasonable deal too. I think we want to add another RH reliever next.

  • Padres just re-signed King to a big deal and signed the Sung-mun Song, would not be surprised if they make a trade soon to unload money. I would imagine their most likely move is to try and trade Cronenworth. Not my favorite fit for the M's, but maybe he goes to another team that then makes Marte or Donovan more likely to be moved.

Song got UTIL player money. I doubt they are viewing him as a guaranteed starter.

King’s deal is quite backloaded in quintessential Padres fashion, so it becomes a next year problem (which coupled with the raises in Tatis and Machado’s contract will be big problems).

Ah didn't see the contract details before I posted. I still wouldn't be surprised if they want to clear Cronenworth's contract, even if it is reasonable. I have a feeling they are about to be even more active.

They’d have to eat money on Cronenworth which doesn’t seem worth it when they have an empty 1B spot for him.

  • Aloha shirt night is August 1. Bitches better believe I'm getting one this year

    Anyway

I'm working out every day until the mariners win a world series

    Today is day 59

    Proof on Strava https://strava.app.link/b9AVqd44FXb

  • I know this is a baseball thread, but…what a goddamn win by the team across the street last night

No doubt. I went to bed thinking the Rams got this.

So proud of Sam Darnold. He gets a bum rap from critics.

I’m sorry to hear that you won’t be able to watch any more Seahawks games this year. You were clearly their good luck charm last night.

What if the Vikings kept Sam Darnold?

  • Ketel Marte?

  • Crazy how the mariners are the best sports team that I follow

And are winning the 2026 WS

  • Anyone have a Mariners gc on Instagram they can add me to with people around my age (I’m 22)? I wanna talk ball with some like minded people

    I don’t but we could make one! I’m 27

  • Mariner 😎

  • The rain will continue until morale & team spending improves
