It's been an absolute pleasure enjoying this show with you all. So one last time folks...enjoy the finale everyone!
What a beautiful metaphor to end on.
Keep climbing people. Face your fears.
I love it too but holy hell is she really ready to process her son’s grief NOW? Give the woman a break! Give the woman some Richard!
I really really liked how therapy was portrayed in this show. She had a common hesitancy towards it but immediately began to find it cathartic and it helped her come so far
I really saw her growth as a person/character, and the way therapy was helping her, specifically in the scene when she was sitting right next to Faye at the engagement party. She was smiling, laughing, playfully picking on Frank. Just thinking about all of the heartache and grief she experienced, how she processed it, and witnessing the way she was more involved and engaged in her family/former husband’s life was really nice to see.
Edit: It definitely wasn’t the engagement party I was referring to(that happened in episode one the night of Erin’s murder). This was probably Frank and Faye’s wedding rehearsal dinner.
I called to schedule an appointment with a therapist midway through this show.
I fucking called it ever since that shady little shit was doin algebra on a Friday night.
This made me howl!! Hahahaha 😂
lol that you did. I actually remember that comment and thought it was ridiculous. Shows what I know!
Seriously! I also liked the “losing a son” parallel because I speculated Mare pursuing Ryan would make her feel irrationally guilty.
Yeah I enjoy how Mare spent so much time feeling like she she didn’t do enough to save her son, and for her foils to be parents doing EVERYTHING to the extreme to save their own.
How does Lori have custody of a child who her own son killed his mom and who’s dad helped dispose of the body?! What the hell
Honest maybe there was a case for Dylan's parents to keep him.
Like “here DJ meet your brother/cousin Ryan who killed your Mom, I’m your Auntie Mommy Lori” WTF
Seriously. And Dylan got to decide where DJ went, not the courts? Some fucked up shit happens in the Philly burbs for real but that’s not how we do it here in PA, folks. I also can’t believe a detective’s friendship would take precedence over the fact said friend covered up for her son in a murder investigation not once but twice because she was first gonna pretend it was Billy before John got busted out in the Poconos by Marianne.
Also, anyone not expecting Dylan to give Lori the money? Seemed to come out of nowhere like he literally threatened Erin's friend with death and now he's suddenly humanitarian? wtf
Dylan was trying to keep DJ.
He didn't want the real father getting found out. He said it was because his parents wanted to keep DJ but I think he also loved DJ and wanted to be his father even though he was such a train wreck.
That is exactly what I thought. DJ would have been so much better off with Dylan’s parents. They really loved him, & Erin was right to want him to be with them. Lori is no relative of the baby, & just because her cheating husband is his bio dad doesn’t mean he’d have custody. He is in prison! Realistically, DJ would be put in a foster home, not given to the woman whose son killed his mother. Can you imagine growing up in that household? Your big brother killed your mom. Your dad, who was her cousin & at least 25 years her senior, helped your brother get rid of her body after he killed her, then tried to talk your uncle into taking the rap for the murder and planned to kill said brother & stage it as a suicide to be sure he wouldn’t talk. Then when Dad goes to prison, you end up with Dad’s wife! Make his therapy appointments now! How could Lori not resent this kid? He is a constant reminder of her husband’s cheating & the reason why her 12 year old son decided he had to steal a gun to “scare” Erin, killing her & ending up in a Juvenile Correction Facility. The best thing the Ross family could do for that baby would be to let him be raised by someone else.
Dj 👏🏼needs👏🏼a👏🏼better👏🏼family 👏🏼

Seriously. DJ was happy at the end of the episode, but wait until he grows up enough to learn about the fucked upness he comes from. I wish he had gotten to stay with the Hincheys.
kate winslet probably having titanic flashbacks with all that damn water
*wuter
What wooder?
I hope we can all meet again for another show 😭
/r/MareCrew is for future crime TV show watch alongs.
Not really. But it could be!
If u make it I will come!!!!!
I would but it might just be like 3 or 4 us posting Zabel memes in perpetuity.
It’s what he deserves 😭
Poor Erin McMininimamin
Erin McMinimenamanamen killed by this dumb little bastard.
Erin McMinivaninimen RIP
Erin McMuffinmanoamanominiman, you deserved better than this.
Did the director name Zabel after himself?
I've wondered that every single time they show his name at the end hahaha
Zabel is a way old German word for “board game,” can’t tell if it’s meant to be symbolic or what you’ve just suggested or both.
At least Dawn looks like she’s doing well
Was she in recovery? I’m happy that it was only good things for her this episode
Oh it’s February 2020. Man have they got a whole thing coming their way
Home girl is gonna make a straight U-turn home from Berkeley when they announce in person classes are cancelled.
Why didn’t Lor get arrested for covering up a murder?
Probably something to do with spousal privilege laws.
You can't arrest a husband and wife for the same crime.
i’ve got the worst attorneys
“I don’t think that’s true, Dad“ “Really?” [nods] “I got the worst f—-ing attorneys”
I think she needs to be at home taking care of DJ and Moira, so she probably made a deal with the chief.
Siobhan is dressed like it's 1993
It’s what all the hip teen lesbians are wearing and I am glad I am no longer a teen lesbian
Frank in the Billiards room with the revolver.
Ryan in the Conservatory with the Colt Detective Special.
"Do you want to say hi to your brother?"
"Hey Dj! I killed your mom."
It’s so horrifying. Talk about Erin’s worst nightmare. Jess was right to burn the diaries. DJ should be with Dylan’s family.
[deleted]
Not our good pure author boy
Especially since Erin realized the baby would be better off with Dylan’s parents even if Dylan was a shit.
It also highlights how young Ryan is and what a shitty situation Lori got put in. Ugh.
It's goddamn heartbreaking, this show did a great job of making you feel conflicting emotions in waves and sometimes all at once.
Jesus.. as if Lor didn’t have enough problems. Now she has to deal with DJ growing up and finding all this shit out. And it’s going to blow back all on her.
RIGHT?!?! That was the sickest! How could the state allow the baby to stay there? He'd be better off with Dylan's parents...
Ah the infamous SANDRA
“Fuck off” 😂
That fuck off was the best fuck off ive heard in awhile
This Ross family is the definition of dysfunctional
The first episode it seemed like they were the only ones that had it together.
I swear. In the first episode I told my mom that this is the only normal family in the whole town.
Same!! Whoops.
Please someone take DJ away from Lori and give him back to Dylan’s parents!
Damn how much tragedy can touch one small town basketball team
The shrimp at the wedding was bad but I wouldn't say it was a tragedy
This show is almost exclusively about women. The major themes are related to motherhood. I've never seen a detective show like this.
Yeah I like how it’s examining the different dimensions of it, instead of making women the objects of it as some do.
Yeah that’s what I’m reflecting on, too. It is about women holding shit together
Unbelievable on Netflix is the only other show I can think of like this. Kate Winslet, Merritt Wever and Toni Collete need to team up!
"we had this connection"
YUCK
Yeah.....a genetic connection.....
Yeah it's called BEING HER UNCLE* YOUR NASTY OLD FUCK
*or sorry whatever their familial connection is. lol
Actually first cousin once removed but in the sense it was her dads first cousin and he was much older, he should of been like an uncle to her. Sick fuck! Took advantage of her.
That's what I was thinking but couldn't remember all of a sudden. Definitely an uncle for all intents and purposes.
WTF do you talk to a teenager about ALL NIGHT? most 40yo's can't stand talking to kids for more than 5min
Yeah and Erin didn't seem wise beyond her years or philosophical in any sense
[deleted]
He was trying to make it seem like the night of, she was the crazy one, but then they cut to the flashback and he was yelling at her on the phone. What a piece of shit.
[deleted]
And when he described his "murder" of her, it didn't make sense. He said she was acting crazy and randomly threatening to shoot herself.
Because a mother would totally go from "I need to pay for my son's medical care, whether by prostitution, pretending someone else is the dad, or extorting the real dad" to "Guess I'll just kill myself and leave him motherless, then!" /s
I understand he had to come up with some reason for a gun to be involved, because he was protecting his son. I had my suspicions already, but his wacky description of random suicide threats definitely made me think he was lying.
[deleted]
So I guess that was a red herring? I was waiting for something to come out explaining the look but nothing.
i think he just feels bad for turning him in and not believing him. the last conversation they had together.
I nearly slid all the way out of my seat to the floor when Lori became dead weight in Mare’s arms.
Just an amazing interaction between those two. Great performances.
It was just like Kevin. He was too heavy, the paramedics had to pull her off him.
Wow. I hadn't even thought of that.
Was I the only one that was afraid of the big knife block that was in the background of the scene by the stove? I was worried the show was gonna go dark with the theme being “Mare can’t ever have nice things”
It reminded me of Mare trying to hold up Kevin after cutting him down--"He was so heavy."
This sub has been fantastic.
[deleted]
So Erin got catfished twice in the same night.
Stop she's already dead ☠️
And both went about as bad as two catfishings could possibly go. When I got catfished the worst was I just thought someone out of my league actually liked me. Which was humiliating but pretty private and am here to talk about two decades later.
So what was Dylan willing to shoot Jess over?
He needed the secret of DJ’s true father to remain a secret in order for his family to be able to keep DJ. I have to admit that I’m not totally copacetic with DJ being taken from the only family he ever knew and be given to Lori because blood.
Yeah...little DJ would be better off with the Hincheys. At least Mr and Mrs Hinchey didn’t have any affairs, murder anyone, or stage a coverup...at least not that we know of.
Dylan asked Jess if she preferred Pat's or Geno's. She didn't answer to his satisfaction.
Damn she stared at that baby crying. Almost with contempt. Not a good sign.
Which is why she was dumb to agree to take him in. Her husband cheats on her twice and asks her to take in the incestual baby of an affair he had with a minor? It's not that baby's fault but she shouldn't have to deal with that on top of everything. Plus that kid will find out what happened and how weird is it that he should be raised by a woman that tried to help cover up his mom's death?
And presumably with the actual killer in the house, because if Ryan's only 13 now he'll get out of juvie at 18 and move back home ... into the house with his half-brother/cousin whose mother he murdered?!
I'ma miss yall! ❤️
This kid looks so much like the actress who plays his mum.
That baby looked just like John. The casting was spot on.
And Drew looks so much like the actor who played Kevin!
Here’s how Siobhan still did it
nah, it was Guy Pearce the whole time. the puppetmaster
"I panicked and shot her in the face" is the excuse I'm going to use for every single thing now.
I panicked!! So anyway I started blasting..
“She was about to shoot herself!! So I did what any other person would do to stop it.. I took the gun and I shot her first.”
Way too much happened in the first minute. There’s gotta be a twist
I really love how many clearly different types of people posted in this sub and I never saw a single thread with legitimate animosity. That is a fuckin feat in the year 2021 people. It’s been a pleasure
Now that you mention it, you're right. A good group of peeps super invested in the story.
This is the first show I'm watching with this many people. I'm excited.
Not the "it wasn't just sex" line. Suddenly remembering exactly what it felt like to be 19 years old again — and my eyes just rolled back inside my head so hard I saw my own brain. Fuck you John Ross.
Except John is like in his 40s and her uncle-cousin!!! Ughhh gross
God poor Erin. She def fell for that line :(
There is another murder coming. Drew about to annihilate Frank in Skee-Ball.
The scene with Lori and Mare in the kitchen was heartbreaking. Not a perfect finale, sure, but a fantastic and deeply human series nonetheless.
That's a great way to put it. Definitely felt my thoughts toward Lor start as angry at first she knew about the murder, but then it folded that into a deeper sadness and loneliness as her family eroded around her. I'm glad the writers and actors could do a great job conveying that gray, quiet space to give it not just one flavor but to make it bittersweet.
Where was Dylan the night Erin was murdered? Did they ever address that?
It doesn’t really add up why he got so pissed at/pulled a gun on Erin’s friend if he actually had nothing to do with the murder of the durder
He said he drove around smoking some weed then came home. Guess he didn’t want to tell anyone that because it killed his alibi.
“My whole family is gone because of you” pretty sure your whole family is gone because they committed crimes. Also way to leave out your daughter.
She should have said that to her husband. It's literally all his fault. Putting his kid in a position to think he has to protect his family, instead of being a kid. Idk how her husband sleeps at night.
Agree but she’s emotional and knows she’s wrong deep down. People say things they don’t mean. They cast blame when it’s hard to accept. It’s realistic imo
Ahhhh... is HBO Max not working for anyone else?? 😭 Did we crash it?? 🤣
Yep, the app wouldn't load for me so I quickly just switched over to HBO.
Oh wow, wasn't expecting that good deed from Dylan
Damn. Boys really know how to twist the knife. "Can you raise the son I made with my niece who I killed because she needed money for ear surgery."
I will forever believe that DJ being placed with Lori is absolutely inappropriate and fucked up. Let's recap this:
1) John was having an incestuous relationship with an underage girl that DJ was product of.
2) DJ's mother is dead because Ryan murdered her.
3) John is in jail for helping cover up Erin's murder.
4) Lori lied to protect Ryan from going to jail and probably could have ended up there herself on an obstruction charge if her whole life wasn't so goddamn sad.
So DJ is now living with the woman whose husband raped his mom and whose son murdered his mom. And there is not a single reason to think Lori will love that kid. Even in a place like Easttown you could throw a dart and find a better family for DJ. Hey, Katie's mom seemed nice.
Also big yikes at when John was yelling at Erin on the phone and called her a child. Yeah she is a child! She's like 3 years older than your own kid, that's what's so wrong about the relationship!
Can we talk about how absolutely fucking heartbreaking Carrie's end was? I really hope she gets sustainable support so she can play the role of Drew's mom in a co-parenting situation.
I think they did a good job of showing how heartbreaking dealing with addiction is on all fronts.
I feel less sorry for her when I think about that bathroom flashback scene she was in with Mare and her son. And also when she told Mare her son hated her.
He's Stephen Fucking King for a reason!
Let’s we all got stuck together in a new serie after this one...
I agree!! Post here when you find another similar and we can all join again :) i have loved this sub so much!!! People are respectful and kind. Everyone can have their own opinions and not be judged. A great group of people have watched this show with lots of enthusiasm 😂 love you all!!!
So this whole show would've never happened if John used a phone password his son couldn't guess
Or a condom

The real villain was the HBO Max app all along! An unexpected twist but a welcome one.
When Brianna is the only smart one in this entire show...
LAWYER THE FUCK UP
A good criminal defense attorney could make bank in Easttown
Better Call Saul: Easttown.
I liked they turned Freddie’s house into a home for Katie Bailey. A fitting end for a tragic story line.
FOR THOSE WANTING MORE JEAN SMART, I RECOMMEND WATCHING "HACKS" ON HBO AFTER THIS
John is a piece of shit.
Jean Smart is gold
Hope everyone here is now watching Hacks!
Damn now I wish DJ was with Dylan’s parents.
You guys Richard is the best and totally not a ferret

Why is nobody going with Siobhan to college?
I'm seeing disappointed comments with the outcome, but I think the best thing about this show has always been the authentic sense of community it portrayed (and the great performances that brought that alive), and the John/Ryan/Lori reveal does feel like something that could happen in these peoples' tightly connected, sad lives.
A great miniseries overall.
In the end, this show was about the shattering of one family and the rebuilding of another. Sure, the Ross family was far from perfect, but to see such a contrast in those final scenes is what left the biggest impact on me. The Sheehan's, finally coming together, sending their daughter off to college, while Lori dissolves into a couch, defeated inside an empty house.
Mare's experienced the start of the cycle before, being in complete shambles at the loss of her son. This is what made the kitchen scene so powerful. What I saw in Mare's eyes was understanding, empathy, and a decision that she was finally ready to confront her grief. To turn towards her son's death and express the emotions that she's been repressing all this time.
Yes, the mystery had its fair share of twists and turns, but the true star of the show was the emotional journey of the Sheehan family. We can poke and prod at whether or not every mystery was tied with a bow, but what's more evident than ever is that every principal character in this show grew and reached satisfying emotional conclusions. I can't give enough love to this story and what it made me feel. Bravo and I'm gonna miss reading this thread every week!
DJ’s name is Dylan John. Dylan the fake dad, John the real dad 🤯
Stephen King must be feeling pretty good
THE FUCKING PICTURE
Man I hope Mare stays in therapy for long time.
And still pissed about Zabel. He came into our lives and was ripped away from us for a red herring.
Well a big lesson in all of this don’t take back your shitty cheating husband.
John Ross is disgusting.
OK, so Mare is now officially not the most fucked up person in Easttown
Any thought on why Dylan was chasing down Jess. He doesn’t know John is the father until they solve the murder, correct?
Yeah whattup with all that Dylan drama?
DJ should be with Dylan's parents
[deleted]
I incest that you do it.
My husband just said since Ryan likes his writing class, he grows up to be a writer and then goes back in time to Eastown as Richard.
Carroll said the gun disappeared for longer than one night, right?
this Carroll dude wtf, he noticed his gone missing and then miraculously returns but with two bullets missing...this guy was an ex cop, he should have reported that immediately...it's only two missing bullets no harm no foul...and if his gun is his protection from prowlers and burglars why is it locked up outside in the shed and not in his house, I mean did he keep it locked up outside when he was a cop also
His gun goes missing on the night of a MURDER and he goes “hey, no biggie. I’ll tell her months later”
Wait so the turtle was unrelated this whole time?! Just a metaphor? A red herring?
What was that little look from Dan?!
I read it as he accused Deacon Mark of being the killer and realized how wrong he was
I just want someone to fix DJs ears
Something isn't adding up folks.
so happy siobhan’s storyline didn’t have any dramatic murder moments and it was really just about her and mare healing and moving forward.
Is anyone else finding this whole episode surreal?
Let’s go! I know I’m not the only person who kept refreshing this subreddit today 🙃
Faye has returned!
So Dylan really was out smoking some weed at 2 AM that night ?
The baby should have stayed with Dylan and his parents, who truly loved and wanted to raise him. Lori did not seem to love or have a connection with DJ. Especially, be raised by Lori who helped hide who killed his mom.
Wait. How did Mr. Carrol know his gun was missing if Ryan put it back that same night? (I'm still watching so maybe there is an answer)
And how did he not make the connection between his gun missing for several hours on the same night of the murder in the otherwise sleepy town!?
The 2 missing bullets didn't raise any alarm bells but his missing pizza cutter was the final straw for him to call Mare!
[deleted]
I'm here. Let's destroy all our theories
I’m going to throw up listening to John.
This is the weirdest town of all time
Lori's son is a murderer, husband is an adulterer, yep all Mare's fault
HBO Max what r u doinnnnn
Who else is having trouble with the sense of dread that something is about to go down?
Sandra is gonna bust this open!!!
It might be the finale, but we'll never forget Zabel.
I don’t get why everyone’s so confused about Siobhan.. a) she’s Mares daughter, b) she’s someone who was affected by Kevin’s suicide which is a big part of mares story. Her film project was her coping with this, there was no big secret clue there, and c)she represents someone who actually got out of Easttown and broke the cycle of teen motherhood and drug addiction
It was the dog that was carrying groceries down the sidewalk from last week’s episode.
He did it.
He disposed of the murder weapon, which was in the bag with a sandwich for when he got hungry later.
Dylan John!
You motherfucking geniuses!!!
I seriously thought that kid was too young!!
