Anyone feel that 1st episode was very slow . even sometimes i feel that it was a 2 session series. now if i am taking about show , it is really good. good build up and pay off were nice. anyone feel that show had showed 2 climax. but yeah it was good. specially appreciation to actors of the show. 1st time i impressed when kenny showed his emotions after erin's death. there was anger , regret and tears. then kate winslet and her daughter's emotional scenes were really good. and in the end when kate and lori meet . it was emotional. some people say that lori was guilty because she hide ryan. but i don't think because she was a mother and she knew that her son was not a criminal. ( i know you can say that he did a crime , but for law it was a crime not for a mother) . from my side big negative point is story of katty. that story didn't even make sense. for me it is 7.5/10
What about Katie’s story didn’t make sense? She was held captive for over a year, and Mare not being able to solve the case made her feel like a failure. It’s the reason she became so desperate to solve Erin’s murder.

The first time I watched this series I loved it. It was depressing, moody, and dark. The ambiance of the whole town, working class , ordinary people. The show had depth and layers and all the storylines felt connected and finished.
However. I will watch anything Kate is in. She's one of my favorites. She played mare well, imperfect, traumatized, grieving, and really bad impulses. Dysfunctional.
I didn't think a love connection between her and the young investigator Colin was necessary , I also thought his death was overkill.
And how many divorcees really share a backyard , with their exes. ? And What Cop is going to drink beer and enter a school for an event and finish the beer in the locker room and mare stole drugs to frame her grandsons mother. In reality she would go to jail, but this was a tight knit community of less than perfect people.
The twists and turns were AMAZING.
The ending was full circle.
I don't think there will be a season two , unfortunately. I'd watch !
same my favourite is also kate. i was starting just for her. and length of show felth sometimes. that's why i said that it would be 2 session.
I live in a small town, albeit it's in texas, and I know people who were once married that are now neighbors. It's only two couples, but it's still weird as hell.
But the heroin thing was laughably bad and just a setup for her to not have a gun during the confrontation
It was like over the top BAD. Mares impulses were self sabotaging.
I think the Katey story was just a town character building storyline...a missing girl and mare failed to find her for a year....it's like they wanted to show that a whole lot of other things went on before this murder...and if it was connected... Soon they realized there was no link between the missing girl and Erin's murder.
It's a.back drop layer of a thread ....does that make sense?
Just like Mare's friend with the brother junkie... Just showing the struggle parallel of life in eastown.
right. that's the point. it was a character build up story. and ending of this story for me specifically abrupt.
I too finished it yesterday, loved it. I was watching true detective and this thing showed up there. I was heart broken when they mare's son misbehaving with her, like I feel sorry for mare whenever I think of her relation with her son and his girlfriend.
right, that scene was really powerful. i already mentioned that all emotional break down scenes were really good.
The son's suicide was something mare never dealt with so that affected every relationship she had . Probably why her marriaged failed. Tensions between her mother and daughter.
Trying to do it " right" with her grandson. , a second chance.
Probably attributed to the impulse behavior also .
I really liked the hug between Mare and Siobhan at last, seems like they have fixed everything. And i don't think mare had any tension with her mom, i mean there are probably small disputes that they laughed away.
Mare and her mother had a typical mother /daughter tenacious relationship. Bickering .
