You sounded like such a bot there. No offence, but for what are you praying?

    parent root

The joke was that since Malta isn't on the map, women never got voting rights lol

    parent root

Forgive me for I said some bullshit. I misplaced Malta for Cyprus 😭

The map isn't accurate btw. For example in belgium women gained the right to vote in the 40s, before that it was under precise circumstances like women of dead soldiers

    parent
    4 points Technical-Excuse2123

Yeah and in Sweden women got the right to vote 1919, meanwhile this map says 1921, which was just the first election in which they could vote

    parent root
    2 points joepke53

The last region in Switzerland was in 1990.

    parent root
    1 points lingering_flames

It's probably about the national vote and not the regional one. At least that's what 1971 would refer to. Women got national voting rights but in some places (like appenzell ir) they couldn't partake in any cantonal vote or election.

    parent root
  • 3 points GareththeJackal

IIRC, in some cantons of Switzerland, women didn't get the vote until well into the 90s.

Dude...in a remote part of Switzerland, women didn't have the right to vote on a regional level until the federal court ordered it in 1990.

There were plenty of elections before 1974. Voting rights were more limited in the first republic than in the second.

amazing, thanks Lenin. Kill a trillion people, but at least some dumbass infographic says that women could vote in their sham "elections" no one even knew were happening.

Pretty odd to call the first election the country had as "women got right to vote".

    parent
    1 points MRsidius

Right? Even in municipality election in 1919 women voted. I have not heard about any law in First Republic that forbids women to vote.

    parent root
    1 points Few_Satisfaction184

Overlay when "men got the right to vote" and its almost the same.

Consider sweden, the first time men were allowed to vote, the first thing they did was to give women the right to vote a year or two later.

    Source: I am from a post-soviet country

    parent root
    1 points V_es

So yea, lack of any education and knowledge.

Okay. So, since you are not aware that besides ruling party and country leader, people can vote for many things. Soviet people voted for- Local Soviets, Supreme Soviet deputies, trade union committees, Komsomol committees, public organization leadership.

When Americans slapped their female colleagues on the butt at work and considered it fine, my grandmother, a regular railroad worker, was promoted to a supervisor, and later voted to be a chief of a railroad warehouse facility in a size of a town, with over 500 subordinates who voted for her to be their boss.

My grand-grandmother, a WW2 veteran nurse, was voted to be a chief of worker’s union. She had a good pay and over hundred subordinates. In the 50s.

USSR provides so much equality that it’s completely unimaginable for USA from the 20s to 80s.

You still think voting rights for women in the case of women getting high paying, leading jobs and becoming bosses is nonsense? Or eliminating sexism and normalizing women to get any kinds of jobs? You aware of the fact that sexism in post-Soviet countries is not as prevalent just because women got rights early?

This implies all men had the right to vote before this which aint true. Right to vote for men were also a 1900's thing unless they owned land and were not in debt.

Women in Norway got the right to vote in 1913, but in 1907 there was an exception made to the widows of wealthy businessmen could vote on the behalf of the estate

I wonder why the former Soviet country's got it early?

I wonder what about socialism improves womens rights

    parent
    1 points ChanceConstant6099

Socialism is about equality of the working class so it only made sense to be about racial and gender equality too.

oh yeah its a rhetorical question

The 1917 date for Russia is fun, I mean techhnically true but first meaningful elections did not happen until aprox 75 year later.

    parent
  • 1 points Pintau

Ah yes the soviet union, a bastion of democracy. In 1917 women got the right to have their vote lied about by the state apparatus, just like their husbands

    parent
  • 1 points [deleted]

Interesting question, would there have ever been a different outcome in any elections had women still not have the vote?
