I think both Albert Einstein and Mozart should be replaced by a certain “politician or leader”.

    parent
    7 points Ephendril

Yes indeed. There a certain political leader

    parent root
    11 points Girderland

    Emperor Wilhelm, never forgotten 🥺

    parent root
    7 points Anuki_iwy

Most of the world doesn't know he's Austrian.

As they say, Austria's biggest achievement is convincing the world that Hitler is German and Beethoven Austrian 🤣

    parent root
    2 points Spiritual-Hospital58

The thing is that he had dual citizenship otherwise he couldn't been elected Chancellor the first time.

    parent root
    1 points Odd_Whereas8471

It's true that most Europeans have heard the name, but surely Angela Merkel isn't that famous?

    parent root
    1 points [deleted]

Idk is Hitler more known than Einstein? Both lived in the 19th-20th century, contemporaries. To this day Einstein is still the face of intellect. While Hitler is the face of nazism and the second world war. It is a close race.

    parent root
    1 points [deleted]

Adolf Hitler. That is his name. We are not in Harry Potter. Let’s name evil when we see it.

    parent root
    5 points Lux2026

That’s the category of the map you nauseatingly pedantic drama queen. 🙄

    parent root
    1 points SirInner6944

    What evil?

    parent root
    0 points Neinstein14

    Nah, it’s a painter

    parent root
    0 points [deleted]

Nope,  more people know Einstein than Hitler

    parent root
    1 points Lux2026

Most people don’t even know he was born in Germany — where his citizenship was taken away.

    parent root
    0 points [deleted]

Yes, they think he was Chinese

    parent root
    1 points Lux2026

Jewish, Swiss, American … I’m not even sure he identified himself as German for the second half of his life.

    parent root
    0 points [deleted]

He didn't identify as any country, as all intelligent people

    parent root
    1 points Lux2026

You’re not very intelligent, are you?

    parent root
    1 points CPH-canceled

He was offered the titel of President of Israel, but he declined

    parent root
    0 points WaltherVerwalther

Jewish is a nationality? Interesting. Pretty sure everyone sees him as German who had to leave the country at some point in his life.

    parent root
    1 points Lux2026

Was “German” a nationality prior to 1871?

    parent root
    1 points Existing_Professor13

Why is it even a discussion, if I remember correctly Hitler was born in Austria 😉

    parent root
  • 13 points Still_Lengthiness_48

So no data on Hans Christian Andersen?

    parent
    7 points Skottiee

Nah, according to this he's still alive

    parent root
    4 points Still_Lengthiness_48

That will cost the municipality of Odense a small fortune in lost income from tourists.

    parent root
    3 points --Snufkin--

Perhaps he did, in fact, live happily ever after

    parent root
    2 points Bitter_Air_5203

Or Ørsted, Bohr, Kierkegaard, Brahe or even fricking Viggo Mortensen?

    parent root
    5 points Still_Lengthiness_48

I think HCA carries more world fame than the others, to be honest. Not that they aren't world famous.

By the way, if Viggo Mortensen died, I must have missed the memo.

    parent root
    2 points LOCAL_SPANKBOT

When he kicked that helmet in Lord Of The Rings, he actually kicked it so hard he died

    parent root
    2 points Bitter_Air_5203

True HC probably is more widely known, but it was just to give examples of many other important Danish people.

Also Viggo is dead to me, since he refused to do LoTR 4 (kidding, I missed the dead part)

    parent root
    1 points FlyyMeToTheMoon

    Without Brahe, Kepler would have been delayed decades;
    Without Kepler, Newton’s laws would have lacked their base;
    Without Newton, classical physics would have been incomplete;
    Without classical physics, Bohr’s atomic model wouldn’t compete;
Without Bohr, quantum mechanics would have lost its early spark.

It really depends who you ask :D

    parent root
    1 points Still_Lengthiness_48

Yeah, but int terms of "most famous", we are asking everybody. And I'm pretty sure, that if we ask everyone alive, more people will know who HCA was, than the others. ;)

    parent root
    1 points vrod92

    Well Viggo ain’t dead yet.

Don't agree with Greece - Aristotle, should be Pythagoras, Plato or something

    parent
    3 points Ledriel

Alexander the great since he is probably more known to Asia.

Or Leonidas of Sparta since a lot of people prefer holiwood over history lessons.

    parent root
    2 points 5p1c3nut

    Fair suggestions yeah

    parent root

I feel like Aristoteles is slightly more famous than Pythagoras, Plato is up for debate

Could someone tell me who is San Marino's most famous dead person?

    parent
    2 points [deleted]

Would probably be Saint Marinus no? You could argue he wasn't actually from there but he sorta founded the country.

Otherwise I literally could not name a dead Sammarinese person. I know a few football players who are probably more well known, but they're alive so that disqualifies them.

    parent root
    1 points IAnnihilatePierogi

Yeah I asked because I'm a fan of San Marino's National Football Team😅 maybe they're the most famous people atm, maybe I'm wrong

    parent root
    2 points [deleted]

Yeah outside of us football nerds I don't know how many people actually know the players. It's quite a niche thing.

Otherwise their most famous is probably Alex de Angelis (MotoGP driver).

It was considered Croatia back then too, it didn't stop existing simply because it was under administration of Austrian monarchs.

    parent root
    1 points Tilladarling

Now now. You’re not supposed to fight Sweden unless the Öresund sea freezes over and a Swede walks over to Denmark. Then, Danes are allowed to hit him with sticks. The law doesn't mention Norwegians, so we’re good 😉

    parent root
    1 points Odd_Science5770

Well now we have a bridge, and they are infesting our country. Why haven't we brought the sticks out yet?

    parent root

Hmmm. Worrying. I think it only applies when they brave the actual ice. Perhaps it’s time for a revision of said law?

I vote for Nils Bohr, kind of the danish Einstein.

I beg to differer (as a Pole). While Copernicus is quite popular I am pretty sure Skłodowska is outshining him, at least among living people consciousness.

On the other hand I would argue if Skłodowska is really most famous - my bet would be on John Paul II.

Leonid Trotsky is very-very far from being the most famous dead person in Ukraine. He is just one of the politicians of the Lenin era. If you ask any Ukrainian on the street about the most famous dead Ukrainian, literally no one will say Trotsky, so I have no clue where this info comes from.

Okay, then what about Aviator and Engineers Igor Ivanovich Sikorsky, he was born in Kiev 🤗

Also Korolyov was born in Zhytomyr. But i am absolutely not surprised that westerners are more interested in some failed jewish commie

Yeah, sorry my friend, but from what I know, Sikorsky was baptist not jewish

And why I named him was because many know the name, because of the Sikorsky Helicopter

And I would probably not even had heard about Korolyov, if it wasn't for my interest of the space exploration 🤷‍♂️

but you are welcome to believe what you want about other people, I can't do much about that my friend 🤗

Yeah, how to make it more obvious, like this ⬆️ my friend

Chill out, i am Ukrainian making fun of Western Europeans/Americans about how little they know about Eastern Europe.

    parent root
    1 points Existing_Professor13

about how little they know about Eastern Europe

Yeah, I still have a few passports filled with stamps from most of the old "eastern bloc" countries and the "middle east" countries, so I know a little about them, and also a little about the countries that doesn't exist anymore, like Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and East Germany

So maybe you should find out if the person know anything about it, before making fun, because otherwise it ends up the other way around 😉

    parent root

If we mean who Ukrainians would name, it's Taras Shevchenko or Lesya Ukrainka

If we mean which Ukrainian is more known in the world, it's Serhii Koroliov (thanks to whom the USSR became the first in the space industry), Kazymyr Malevych (I think all people know "Black square" painting), Arkhyp Kuindzhi, Mykola Leontovych (the author of "Carol of the bells")
