I recently impulse bought an Evergoods CAP 1 in burnt orange a few hours before a flight. I hat it hung from a carabiner to my PD Everyday backpack and it got a few black stains on it. I tried using wipes, some tissue paper and some water to remove it but it's still stuck. How would you clean it off the bag without washing it? Or is washing necessary for a black stain. Would you even wash a bag at all?
Merry Christmas to everyone by the way :D

  • Take a microfiber cloth and dip it in lukewarm water with some laundry detergent and use the cloth the clean the pouch.

    I'll try this out!

  • Are you talking about washing your CAP1 or your bag? The CAP1 is a pouch and can be washed. Remove the contents from it and hand wash or machine wash on delicate. Do you have any idea what the black stain is?

I'm talking about the CAP 1 yes. Sadly I have no idea what the black stain is. It just randomly popped up when I put my Everyday Backpack on the floor. Other than that, the bag is flawless

  • !remindme 2 days

  • I have a CPL and when I mess it up, I wash it with dish soap and warm water, and hang dry out of the sun.

  • Lukewarm water, “free” type laundry detergent with no brightness, etc. Do not scrub on any wet interior coatings. Rinse well, dont soak, let it drip for a while and gently towel off excess water. Hang it upside down to dry and invert after it’s done dripping. Don’t use heat and never machine wash.

The black spots don’t sound good. If you’re really lucky they are water soluble or grease. My arsenal of cleaners includes Goo Gone, ethanol alcohol (or vodka), Zep citrus degreaser and Oxyclean. Non acetone fingernail polish remover is risky and should be tested in a less visible area. None are good for DWR coatings. Nikwax Tech Wash is best for overall cleaning if DWR is a concern.

Thanks for the details. The regular CAP 1 doesn't have DWR coating that I have to worry about right? It wouldn't make sense for this pouch to even have it in the first place

My guess is that it does have some DWR. It’s equally good for stain resistance. Pour some water on it. You do sometimes need to make a choice between stain removal and DWR preservation. It’s not as critical as with a rain shell or backpack.

    You can renew DWR: https://www.tripsavvy.com/best-waterproofing-sprays-4773587

Well that's odd, it wouldn't get a small stain easily if had DWR. That said tho, tried pouring water on it and some water beaded up and some got absorbed into the fabric. Considering the design tho, I might go with stain removal for this one. Can I use the one people use on shoes for the DWR?

No, I wouldn’t use shoe stuff. I was kind of duty bound to mention it. For an inside pouch I wouldn’t worry about it Clean it and keep going.

  • Rub white vinegar and dish soap into the stains, throw it in the dishwasher.

    Is it even dishwasher safe?
