I got the AER Slim Pouch 2 in X-Pac and I really love it. But the only thing that worries me is the PU coated zippers. I don't want them to start peeling in a couple of years. Is this something I should be worried about? I was debating if I should just return it and get the Cordura version instead.

Anyone have any experience with these PU coated zippers? Am I overthinking this?

  • It’s a pouch. Just use it.

  • I have a Day Sling 3 in X-Pac for about 3 years now, and PU coat hasn’t come off, yet. But I would get the one that makes you happy and enjoy it.

  • You’ll probably not care about this pouch anymore or buy five other ones before this thing even sees any signs of wear. It’s a pouch. Are you going to be hiking in extreme weather with it? Mashing it against mountains? Throwing it down the subway stairs? The zippers are gonna be fine. Just don’t leave it in direct sunlight for 100 hours straight. Even then I bet it’d be fine.

  • You are overthinking. Just use it and enjoy the pouch. I’ve the v1 in X-Pac for a couple of years and it’s holding up fine.

  • I can understand an argument can be made for PU coating on zips on the outside of a bag, but putting them on accessories like dopp kits or cable pouches seems unnecessary, especially when these zippers are so stiff and annoying to use

    100% this

why does my tech pouch need a pu coated zipper?? Most people take their electronic peripherals to an office - we aren’t taking them white water rafting ffs

The product’s page seems to envision it being possibly hung on a bag, where it’d be exposed. It does still seem like overkill, though.

i KNEW you were going to link to this post lol

I mean the pouch will always be indoors in room temp. Will it last a couple of years before peeling?

I had a city pack pro XPAC for over two years. Used in rain and snow. My wife even got lotion all over and used it in Florida sun. Never even came close to peeling. A couple of Reddit posts are likely worst case scenario and likely factory defect that got worse over time.

Adding on, my CPP XPAC looks nearly new after 3 years of medium use.

I suppose it depends on how often you zip and unzip it, then.

  • Why take the chance? There’s a non zero chance they will degrade. X-Pac delamination is an eventuality, not a probability. I would get the Codura ones.

Over time it kinda looks veiny lol That’s how I feel, whenever I see my Day Sling in X-Pac. I kinda wish I got the Cordura one but I don’t hate it enough to buy another one.

  • I am kinda over their x pac stuff, the zippers get destroyed much faster.
