Yer long term right hand man, unfortunately he’s unlikely to accept a remain. TBF though any decent modern coach should have a decent set piece coach with him. We’ve just been behind the curve with that for too long, so the recent improvement seems more pronounced - any half decent set piece coach should be able to keep us “current” and then improvements in other areas of the game can be added.
Yeah we could offer him the contract, but if he arrived with his colleague/friend, he will go away with him. They move together throughout the career ladder
Technically they're still working at the club apparently. Fabrizio Romano just posted an update, Amorim is still contracted to the club for 18 months instead of giving him a payout unless some other club gets him.
Almost all the data you will find will be better, except results, but everyone kept bashing the system, system, system like parrots just because they heard it.
they repeated it so much that Wilcox started to decide to put pressure to change formations, and when that didnt work a whatsapp group chat got leaked about that same matter.
Now, start again.
And i hope that players wont be affected by this change, because, for sure, some of them like Amorim.
Agreed. I’m seriously bummed. Ruben was changing the culture. He needed his type of players. Same thing happened at sporting. Commit or leave. Fuck Wilcox and ratcliffe
I’m surprised how few people have picked up on this. According to almost all metrics, United should be better off than they are, and Amorim should still be in a job. It’s like Klopps Dortmund in his last season before joining the Scousers.
Lots and lots of big chances missed. Chances which, if they fell to a confident striker in a team in form, would result in goals. Remember that season under Ole where Rashford got 26 or whatever? Same chances this season, he would put half of them in the stands.
There’s a more scientific way of describing it, see Rory Smith or Raf Hoenigstein books.
I'd hate to see what we'd be like if we weren't performing elitely in set pieces though.
How can we be as good as you say if we've won 3/11 games while having excellent set pieces? Who exactly is failing? Cunha? Mbeumo? Mount? Sesko? Amad? Bruno?
Why are you blaming the offense when you easily could see that’s not the issue, yes there is a decent amount of missed chances but thats more due to lack of confidence rather than bad play, plus what is wrong from scoring from set pieces, Arsenal is leading the league because of them, it’s just they are reliable defensively and get results because of that.
The margins have been very fine. More games could’ve gone our way definitely. Versus very few games where we were lucky to get something. We’re in a far better place now than we were 15 months ago.
It's hilarious as a lot of people are calling for Glasner now 😅
If I hear 'system' again I'm going to lose it.
Arsenal play most games with 4 CBs and 2 DMs, shape up in a 325, 316 & 442 during games. City do similar at times too. It only becomes a problem when it's a United manager. People see live score saying 343 and they can't conceive that we might change 3 or 4 times during a game.
Naglesmann as well is know for adoption of various shapes including 325 etc. He's another high on the list.
These pundits are woefully hypocritical.
I hope the work we've done to improve the base line of the team will be built on.
The team were clearly still behind the manager and I hope we don't see a drop of heads.
I’d watch matches with friends and be shocked that they came up with the idea that our football was crap and boring.
Most matches we created far more chances than we would have in the past, we pressed high, got more high percentage chances in and around the box, but our attackers simply couldn’t finish. I’m begging them to see that clearly we were creating chances but what else is Amorim supposed to do when they won’t hit the ball into the freaking net.
I honestly blame all the content creators. They gotta realise that they’ve got a massive voice, and anything they say will be heard by the Manchester United board
Agreed, I was arguing with fans all night yesterday on Reddit that Amorim needed time and now that he’s actually been sacked suddenly they’re all panicking because they realise it will be a disaster with an interim manager, we probably won’t get Europe, and now no good new manager will ever touch us because they know they’ll never be given the time this team needs to be successful again.
I woke up today wishing that for some reason the management realised their mistake and reversed their decision to sack Amorim and got him back. So devastated after this sacking.
I’d rather have the players slack and get consistent top 4 than press the opponent like headless chickens thus creating massive defensive holes.
We were litteraly the most succesful when we either parked the bus or sat back and went for a deathly counter attack. Can’t create holes in the defense if nobody moves forward to press and instead just try to read the opponent.
The fact you have to talk about De Gea’s reflexes being that important shows that we were dreadful at defending set pieces, we hardly scored from them too
Ruben is a Benfica fan and also played for them. He would accept it. I see him coming back to either Sporting or Benfica unless he wants something else.
Amorim played for Benfica's senior team for 9 years and had a small spell at their youth team. That's what I was referring to. He's also a fan of Benfica. You're downvoting, but if Mourinho leaves his current job, then which team will have a managerial vacancy?
I think they're all part of Amorims "Crew"!
Could potentially still offer him the role. The contracts are all separate right?
Lmao. He’s gone mate
Well let’s hope the new manager can bring a better one with him
Yeah let new manager bring his friends over or just hire a best guy

If it means the incompetent coward never comes near the club again, great.
Gave sporting CP its first league title in 20 years. Incompetence indeed
It's more about his loyalty to Amorim.
That’s not how football works anymore. You don’t hire a head coach, you hire a coaching team
Yeah we could offer him the contract, but if he arrived with his colleague/friend, he will go away with him. They move together throughout the career ladder
You mean that guy that packs the area with everyone are fires the fall close to the keeper, not exactly genius.
Every time we defend a corner we have everyone back, so all opposing players are also in our box or on the edge.
Technically they're still working at the club apparently. Fabrizio Romano just posted an update, Amorim is still contracted to the club for 18 months instead of giving him a payout unless some other club gets him.
Yes, that would be great.
Also, our workrate has improved massively under Ruben and his team.
We can't allow players to slack off like we've seen since the end of Ole's days. It will be telling.

We're performing elite in set pieces.
So how are we so good if we're do bad as it is?
3 wins from last 11 in the league.
Our of the last 11 games in the league, the only top half clubs we have played are Newcastle and Villa.
Lots and lots of big chances missed. Chances which, if they fell to a confident striker in a team in form, would result in goals. Remember that season under Ole where Rashford got 26 or whatever? Same chances this season, he would put half of them in the stands.

That's the saddest part, the numbers behind looked like this train was moving into a better direction, now it's back to a new manager each second year
I'd hate to see what we'd be like if we weren't performing elitely in set pieces though.

Currently 5th. Dunno how much better results we are expecting from season 2. O well.
I honestly blame all the content creators. They gotta realise that they’ve got a massive voice, and anything they say will be heard by the Manchester United board
They're a huge problem in football today. 95% don't even understand basic things.
Agree 1000%
Agreed, I was arguing with fans all night yesterday on Reddit that Amorim needed time and now that he’s actually been sacked suddenly they’re all panicking because they realise it will be a disaster with an interim manager, we probably won’t get Europe, and now no good new manager will ever touch us because they know they’ll never be given the time this team needs to be successful again.
Wilcox is the Joker.
Match result merchants won't agree to this.
The data doesn't lie.
You have to view seasons in isolation and with context.
Screaming about a win rate isn't going to get us anywhere.
It's a multi year rebuild. It's the only way.
I woke up today wishing that for some reason the management realised their mistake and reversed their decision to sack Amorim and got him back. So devastated after this sacking.

One of the worst comments I've ever read in my life.
Tbh We are the actual setpeacs FC this season ..most of them came fks, corners and dalot throw balls. Definitely this guy deserves his flowers
Were, yes. Are, is still to be seen.
Ineos will probably make the role obsolete so they dont have to replace him
A big part of our set pieces are surely fact that Casemiro, De Ligt & Maguire all have fat heads
Didn’t stop us from being awful at them under ETH
They're older now, so their heads are fatter and have now entered peak fat-head years. Science, yo.
This is 100% scientific and true
can't argue with science 🙏🏾
https://i.redd.it/bijlnndzkmbg1.gif
Majority of the faults under ETH were because of Onana. They were too used to DDG having cat reflexes during set pieces
The fact you have to talk about De Gea’s reflexes being that important shows that we were dreadful at defending set pieces, we hardly scored from them too
All those players were here before and were not scoring regularly under other managers
Which means, players actually improved under Amorim after all?
Valid points
True 🤣🤣🤣
I reckon he will go with Amorim to Italy, suits more his style with 3 at the back and pragmagic style
If Portugal have a poor World Cup, then Mourinho will probably take that job, which will open the door for Amorim to go back to his former club.
Mourinho is coaching Benfica, not Sporting.
Amorim was a Benfica player, that’s what he meant
Ruben is a Benfica fan and also played for them. He would accept it. I see him coming back to either Sporting or Benfica unless he wants something else.

Better at scoring from them but still very poor defending them, we conceded 8 goals already from them.
no. you have what you deserved and wished for.
Oh no. Now we will actually score goals from open play.
No. We won’t do that and we won’t score from set pieces anymore either.

Pull a brentford and make him our new head coach?
Probably not
It doesn't work like that sir
I don't want to see one more of Dalots "long throws".
"Manager", not "Coach"
They come as a package I believe
The only bit of coaching that actually worked in 14 months. I'd keep him if the option was there.
Firing amorim before the end of the season was mad.
The club should try their best to keep him at the club
No. We havent taken a decent corner in a decade ffs.
2nd highest set piece goals behind Arsenal if I remember correctly.
This is something I agree with. The set pieces were great. Keep him please
It's definitely a nice bonus to have, but having the mentality of only scoring from set pieces and playing boring football, isn't Man Utd.
I don't think we've overly improved at set pieces either
Aren't we top 3 in goals from set pieces?
Someone stop Dalot’s long throw ins
The one that keeps us bottom in set pieces?
Corners are tragic in our end
Pretty sure we have the 3rd highest goals from set pieces in the league.
Yeah maybe now. But I’m talking goals against
Fair enough
