My nephew worked on the staff responsible for catering. I don't want to say the amount, but he was able to pay off his student loan from culinary school at Johnson and Wales and still had several thousand left over.
That's fucking incredible. Good for him! Student loans are bitch for everyone, but particularly bad coming out of culinary school with the generally terrible pay at the first level of the kitchen.
It's really refreshing to browse through this post and see comments like yours! She gave out almost 200 million and still remains a billionaire. That just goes to show how much wealth the top 1% have and how they can change lives by giving a fraction of their wealth to their hard working staff.
The 2% law in France was proposed by a Economist. He said that the 1400 families that have more than 100 millions $, they are not paying a lot of taxes and they gain like 800% of their fortune through 1996-2024.
For that economist they need to have a 2% minimum taxes and he said they can honor that by giving 2% of their actions to their employees than the government.
The law has flaws but the idea it’s there: the 1% of rich people need to give more back to their employees. Because without them they can’t gain at all and the company is not working.
But the most part of them are greedy like hell… and some wants more for themselves than just to reward their employees for the good and hard work…
Edit: I made a mistake on how much the richest families in France gain, I added a source.
It's insane to me that more billionaires don't do this. If I had that kind of money that's all I would be doing. Making people's day, week, month, year, etc.
But that’s why you don’t have $1 billion. With the exception of a couple of the biggest athletes and artists in the world, you have to be a sociopath to get $1 billion. You have to be.
100%. You actually CAN afford to give out a ton of wealth and still be a billionaire (prime example is this post). They actively choose not to do so. It's certainly an indication of their mental state and lack of empathy then their ability to be rich after giving out tons of money, it is possible and yet they decide not to.
I like that Bezos' wife took half his shit and is donating it all to charity. Involuntary philanthropy. We need more non-sociopaths marrying and divorcing billionaires.
That's for the sound/audio/lights/truck drivers. The band and dancers received over a million each in bonuses. There are clips of the dancers squealing "we're millionaires" after receiving the checks.
It's an old lesson that many, many business people fail to learn their entire lives. If you want an excellent team who are loyal and trustworthy and will give you their best effort - then you need to reward them well in excess of what is normal for people doing that job in a regular company.
What she's done here is extremely smart, she spends money now and what she gets in return is that she turns her tour into the most attractive place to work in the entire industry, the best of the best will be vying to work with her. Which will make her future tours as frictionless as possible, because most operational problems are caused by people who are checked out mentally or who don't actually care about their work.
If I was looking at a 500k payout for doing a good job you can bet your ass I'd be in there every morning with a spring in my step and actively trying to contribute as much as I possibly can.
This comment means so much to me. My husband has been at his company for 20 years! He’s been a General manager for 7 of those years. He was just written up and had his job seriously threatened just yesterday for paying his team too much. They also cancelled their holiday party gifts that would be raffled out to the employees and their families. They literally told him to return the gifts. He’s been in such a bad head space this week and sent him this on Taylor and your comment. As he’s just second guessing his ability to manage well especially the people and team he loves and appreciates so much. Anyway bless you thank you! 😊
I don't understand companies who don't care about the happiness or morale of their people. You wouldn't have a business without them. Honestly, those kinds of companies deserve to go out of business.
Agreed. It’s so disappointing. They went full corporate and only see bottom lines and not their good employees. They just think everyone is replaceable and in these times it’s just not true. It’s increasingly hard to not just fill a position but do so with someone that likely had the same drive and skills? It doesn’t make sense and I think they are about to find out. They are also changing pay plans, letting some people go all before the holiday. Morale is in the ground at this point. Anyway I appreciate you guys.
The problem with modern business is most MBA's are trained that the idea of having loyal and trustworthy team is worthless. The employees are easily replaceable cogs in the machine you are supposed to exploit for maximum profit. You never reward in excess, if someone wants too much you fire them and move on to the next cheaper solution. This is why business is obsessed with LLMs right now.
In the only corporate job I have ever had they mad us sit through 4 hours of 'motivational' videos by 'inspirational leaders'.
The first one was the ex CEO of Burberry. She told a story of one of her employees being visibly upset at work....which annoyed her. When she went out for lunch the barista was exceptionally cheery and pleasant. So she offered her a job on the spot and upon returning to the office fired the upset employee.
When I was asked what I thought the message of the story was I said 'management are psychotic ego maniacs and we are worthless pieces of shit who can be immediately replaced'.
Apparently the answer was 'don't let private life issues interfere with team performance'.
My bad.
They're taught to have compliant workers. So they're taught modern "leadership skills" which is just carrot and stick methodology and not actual leadership. Linkedin is full of these degenerates.
1,000% in agreement. My company just hired a new mid-to-later career guy for our President role. When he talks, his thoughts are so typical of this mindset that I want to check his back for the wind-up key.
"Loyalty? That's an unquantifiable quality and thus holds no value. If you're not willing to throw out your tools and replace them when they're clearly disposable, then you'll never make it in the corporate world."
"Um, excuse me, professor? Numerous studies show that investing in your employees reduces turnover rate, improves productivity, and significantly reduces overhead costs associated with hiring and training new employees leading to increased profits."
"Get out. Enjoy your F and let that be a warning to the rest of you."
As far as i know her band and main crew are all full time employees so i wouldn't be surprised if her main dancers are too, if not all of them. The schedule and size of the show demands an insane amount from everyone involved and she makes sure they are incredibly well looked after for it.
As far as i know her band and main crew are all full time employees
Yeah, it isn't known for sure but I think her main band (4-5 people, IIRC) and her backup singers (4 of them) are her fulltime employees now.
Her dancers aren't though, AFAIK. A lot of them post on insta about them doing shows for other artists too and in a lot of musicals and dance shows too.
Probably are allowed to have those shows as a side gig, but in their contracts have something that says when Taylor calls, they’re out.
ETA: Reading the comments, I should have clarified that the contracts I’m talking about are the side gig contracts. They make it known that Taylor is their #1 employer and when she calls, they’re putting in notice.
I remember that the news of her giving bonus to truck drivers came out on the same day that the news of Lizzo harassing/fat-shaming her backup dancers came out. It was wild to see the contrast between the two.
Wait til you find out about the food banks, I believe she donated to at least one hunger based organization in every single city the tour went to. Some enough to cover meals for an entire year. She also use to hand pick and wrap presents for her fans. Girl is WILD with sharing her fortune. Basically any way you can think of she has made a donation for.
Depending on the schedule, there are usually 3 or more crews leap frogging the setup and tear down. And likely have multiple crews for dancers. The only one that has to be at every single show is the artist.
Consider that the tour had two identical versions of the stage and everything needed to perform so one could get to the next city and have enough time to set it up. So basically the biggest tour ever times two.
Shit, 5,000 would genuinely be a game changer for me. It'd allow me to buy so many things I'm in desperate need of. Making just above the poverty level.
She’s always been super generous to the people she works with apparently. She gives huge bonuses to the truckers who move her tour equipment between cities too, and always donates a big amount of money to charity in the cities she performs in
Still very cool. No single person need this much money and I think its great to share with the ones who even make it possible to earn like that.
Imagine all rich ppl would share like that.
I'm not a huge Taylor swift fan but I think this is incredible of her. Plus she apparently donates to food banks and to organizations to cities she goes to. She seems very generous and it would do the world good if more people treated their staff like her.
Edit: thank you for the award! I now have .30 cents in reddit cash sitting there teasing me. I might be able to pay my phone bill with that .30 cents. Thank you! I can at least afford one more month of my reddit addiction!
Also have to say I legit got a job offer about an hour after posting this joke on the toilet I thought no one would see. It brings me so much joy to know how many others there are out there just like me..suffering.
Most people advise not to do the competing offer thing. Unless your company has a horrible staffing crisis, then you're going to be 1st on the chopping block come layoffs or anything else.
More important to me : if I'm going through the pain of getting and aching interviews, I'm gone. My current employer's chance to keep me was when I asked for a raise without having a competing offer.
My company literally had written in the handbook that off cycle raises will not be considered unless they employee produces a valid offer that is higher than the current rate
That's sketchy. You've got to be careful about doing this. If some managers/HR get wind of someone applying for external jobs, they'll begin soft firing them and looking for replacements.
My husband met one of the truck drivers and mentioned his daughter was a TS fan. They started talking. The driver mentioned the $100k bonus and how it changed his family’s life. Apparently he had driven for other big name artists and has received nothing even in the same ballpark as this. She does take care of the people who work for her.
Yeah, it was kind and generous of her to do, and also smart. If I was working on her tour, one, you think I’d ever THINK of leaving? And two, I’d go above and beyond for someone spreading the wealth more than most! Talk about making it a team!
I'd separate her m and ms into different color bowls 😂
Not sure if everyone gets this reference, but this was part of Van Halen's touring contract for a while. They would cancel the show if the venue didn't provide a bowl of M&Ms with all brown ones removed. There was actually a valid reason, too: they had a powerful lighting setup for the time, which could be dangerous if not set up properly.
Essentially, the brown M&Ms were a litmus test for whether the venue had read their contract thoroughly. If they didn't separate the M&Ms, they couldn't be trusted to set the stage up safely.
Most of her band has been with her since the beginning and she even adjusted her tour so her longtime guitarist could be home for the birth of his child.
TBF, none of those tours he worked on made Taylor Swift Era Tours levels of money. She sold over $2B in tickets and probably that much in merch, concert film, etc..,. I can't even begin to tell you the financial impact her tour had in my hometown as well. It was like having the Superbowl in town again. That level of money just flooded into the restaurants and hotels and such here. There's just never been anything like it in the world. Ever. And I'm glad she spread some of that wealth.
A creator that does TS content made a tiktok of him at the eras tour and the captions said "We didn't know it at the time but we were participating in the world's biggest Go Fund Me project."
People made fun of Justin Trudeau for asking her to play in Toronto, but she did and people came from all over Ontario, as well as other provinces and even the US. Lots of money was spent here.
I know multiple people from the tour that got the check. I also know two people that turned down the tour cause they already had other shows booked. Big oof.
Oof to be sure, but there's something to be said about respecting one's commitments. I would think that saying "I can't accept the job because it would screw my current employer" would actually be a bonus in the tour manager's mind. Evidence that they won't screw you if you hire them in the future.
My brother-in-law has been touring as a roadie, setting up the stages, the equipment, making sure everything is correct and then breaking everything down and loading the trucks for the next tour stop. He’s been doing this for 18 years and he told my wife that no other artist has ever even come close to giving him a bonus check like Taylor Swift did on her Era’s Tour. He was able to pay off the mortgage on his home with the funds from his bonus check.
At least Taylor Swift seems to have the decency to pay her staff decently.
Meanwhile, 90% of us in corporate jobs are putting in crazy hours to be paid half what we deserve. This is across the ladder unless you make the top 15-20% of the employees in the company.
I actually think doing this publicly and on camera is a good move on Taylor’s part. Not because it makes her look good but it shows what can be done. It’s a blueprint for other artists and billionaires to share the wealth.
It’s not even the fact that it is on camera. It’s very clear that EVERYTHING on this tour was being recorded. There’s professional recording of the show itself. Then professional recording of the entire rehearsals, backstage, creative, set building, crew, etc etc. They recorded all of it for a documentary. Why would they not record this? Taylor has a long history of taking care of her people. She’s used the same band for 20 years. People assuming that this was done only for PR are just miserable people.
Yep, she is quite literally putting her money up when she doesn't have to. Whether you like her or not that is unique, and to those people it is life changing.
The Copenhagen Interpretation of Ethics says that when you observe or interact with a problem in any way, you can be blamed for it. At the very least, you are to blame for not doing more. Even if you don't make the problem worse, even if you make it slightly better, the ethical burden of the problem falls on you as soon as you observe it. In particular, if you interact with a problem and benefit from it, you are a complete monster.
Look at the vitriol she is receiving in this thread for a clear example. Even though this is objectively a good thing she has done which has had a positive impact on others, by doing anything at all she has made herself a target for criticism.
People in this thread have likely spent more time tearing down Swift for not giving enough than they have other artists who have given nothing at all.
She isn't beholden to any shareholders. She's a private entity that is able to make these decisions for herself. The problem we have in the US is that shareholders and board members would immediately fire any CEO who approved something like this for their company.
Valve, another privately owned company, does a similar thing with their employees. They have all gotten huge bonuses in the past.
Dodge v. Ford was the landmark decision that set the tone for how corporates are supposed to work. It’s not because the stock market is inherently bad, it’s because of short-term shareholders and stock traders fucking everything up. They just want to loot companies for quick profit and let both the companies and their customers to rot. For-profit corporations can still be so much better than right now if they don’t have to prioritize their shareholders’ short-term benefits.
I am also not a fan of her music, but every city she tours in she donates to local shelters and charities that help that specific city! The world would be a better place if all rich people had that mindset
Yeah most of her music isn’t my thing but this is a very nice gesture she won’t even notice the money it’s life changing for these people and she will keep good loyal workers and I wish more companies would do this kind of thing even any kind of bonus.
I have seen first hand the way Taylor treats her crew…. Production down to catering, riggers, tour bus drivers etc. She is a class act. I became a fan after working for her 3 tours ago. And every show after in my area. Not one person had anything bad to say. Which is very rare. Because all people have bad days. She gives her fans a hell of a show. She is tough as well… She performs through sickness and tiredness. Impressive no matter what! This is coming from a 40 year old man that is now a swifty! I ran a robo spot for her and when she came out center stage I lit her up 100 percent intensity and the crowd exploded… I was like hell ya I did that! Made me feel apart of the show! Respect T sizzle. High energy show. Electric. Wish I was on her crew my kids would love that bonus. Good for her for doing the right thing.
This new documentary on Disney Plus is a real insight into how she manages her life, her people, and her career. Even if it's edited, you can see the sincerity in her work and why she's a billionaire
The truck drivers actually got $200k. After a show where they got their bonuses they lined their trucks down the road she used to leave the stadium and they all honked their horns as she was driven past. And they wonder why this person is so popular. She's not above anyone. She knows how hard people work for her. Wish our positions respected the working people like she does.
I don’t care if it’s for publicity purposes or social media influence or if a camera is on or off. I could care less if I was being slid a 100k bonus as a worker on her staff. Good on her for doing that to the actual workers.
Yeah, I feel the same. However you feel about her, and whatever the reason she had for this, it’s still a really nice thing that she was not obligated to do. She could have easily given them nothing and it would have had absolutely no effect on her popularity.
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking! Maybe HUGE companies with execs making $$$ hand over fist might think about a Xmas bonus for people working 40-60 hrs busting their ass for next to nothing
My husband owns a bar and 1 of the reasons that he has 12 employees that have worked for him 5 yrs or more is because he gives end of the year bonuses to the employees every single year. Most bars are ruined by employee turnover and theft and his employees are so loyal just because he simply says I appreciate u guys and the work you put in for this business. So if he can do that being a small business owner there is no way these big companies cant afford which use to be just an accepted thing with a little holiday bonus.
If nothing else it shows you can be generous and still be a billionaire. Most people really can’t wrap their heads around that amount and how much it actually is. It’s no coincidence that although other billionaires use their planes more than she does that she’s the one you see memes about and hear about. It’s not a coincidence when bots on the internet are generating stories about her “dark side”. Because however you feel about her, she does right by her fans and her employees and shows the others really have no excuse for not following suit.
Something i caught watching the Colbert show, is her mentioning how she has more or less the same team she had since she was 16 that went on tour with her.
I find that endearing, despite her refusal to call out the Trump regime for using her music.
That's really cool to hear and it's even more impressive after watching the P Diddy documentary on Netflix. He screwed over so many people that worked for him (on top of all the other horrible stuff he did).
I saw a video of her handing out hundos to every arena staff member she bumped into whether they were operating the elevator, or holding a door open, or caterers restocking sodas. Good for her.
I do wonder if her not calling out the regime is a Streisand effect thing - Sabrina Carpenter did and it made more news. Taylor didn't and it's largely gone other than people wanting to make a point using it against her.
I see it as her not feeding the trolls. Her political beliefs seem pretty clear to me given that she endorsed a Dem for Tennessee governor in 2018, Biden for president in 2020, and Harris for president in 2024, the last of which was signed “childless cat lady” in a direct attack on Vance.
This as well as she already has major security issues that someone like Sabrina doesn’t necessarily have.
Taylor has had violent stalkers that have broken into her homes plus one that didn’t show up for their hearing a few months ago. She had a terrorist threat at one of her Eras tour shows in Europe and had to cancel, and she almost never cancels a show. After Charlie Kirk, I’m sure there were a lot of extra security measures taken, especially since she is regularly at stadiums for Travis’s games. I’m also sure she gets lots of threats in general that her security team keeps under wraps to not feed the beast.
I’d put down good money that her legal and security teams told her to lay low and not engage for her own safety.
Absolutely life-changing amount of money for 99% of people. Fuck, I could take 20 years off my mortgage with that big of a 1-time payment. New homeowners could make a down payment big enough to save themselves several tens of thousands in interest.
Reminds me of the one guy who raised 1.7 million for the 88 year old guy who was working full time after having his pension taken away. People were negative in the comments saying no one should be smiling because it is a story of corporate greed and the one dude was doing it for likes.
I can see where people are coming from but can we recognize there are people genuinely out there changing lives for the better? It doesn’t really matter the motivation or the reason it is needed.
Edit: Damn! Thanks for the award! I think it is my first ever 😁
I had a friend who was very much... anti everything. vegetarian,, anti corporate, communist type and no amount of do gooding was good enough for him because his politics were really about making himself feel better over what a misanthropic loser he was. Once we got into a huge argument because I told him I was picking up litter in the park during my walks and it was apparently too selfishly motivated for him. I don't know what motivation would have been valid for him though but me saying I didn't like trash in the park and river was enough to make it not good enough.
I had to put my dog down this year. I didn't want the ashes as I was afraid it would be a constant sad reminder. My friend convinced me to get them. They had a card inside the little tote it was delivered in with his paw print. I nearly died.
This should also be normal. Many times have I worked my ass off to watch my various employers brag about record profits while we get nothing. And then a few years later their obvious blunders leads to less profits and a bunch of workers take the hit, getting fired and mistreated while the boss still gets a new Ferrari.
We own most of the risk. We should get some of the rewards when things go well too. So when a tour breaks record after record, I'm sure it is all because these people worked really hard and did a phenomenal job. They deserve it more than any CEO
My corporate job reduced our healthcare benefits, cut remote work, increased our ticket responsibility 5x, removed our bonuses, cut our stock awards at certain year marks, then shit talked me for taking time out of the office after a suicide death and a cancer death in my family in the same month.

GG guys. It was a good run. I'll go learn java or sm.
This also is not a publicity stunt, she has treated her crew excellently since the beginning. Her music is far from my music taste but i would work for her any day. And she gets a loyal and hard working crew that is highly motivated, which means easier and better shows.
Even if it is a publicity stunt, it's a good thing to show that you are paying your workers well in order to normalize it and encourage others to do the same.
This was a life changing amount of money for MANY on this tour.
Not only did she reward them for the hard work.
She treated everyone on the tour with respect and admiration. Thanking everyone repeatedly for their effort.
She made sure staff were fed had what they needed to do their jobs well. Equipment broken? Get it replaced, NOW. If it's a problem, money fixes it and get it fixed. Do not waste your time, which she valued, with equipment that makes your life hard.
She gave time off, and the tour's schedule reflected that.
She made sure her and her team were available. Have a problem? Say it.
Haters gonna Hate.
Taylor did it right and it's paying off with people in this industry literally begging to work for her.
Saw an interview with stage staff and these rough men all said 'I've worked with the biggest names but this was the best and I'd do it again tomorrow'. And if you know stage staff...them sum-bitches ain't easy to please.
Ok Taylor, allow me to officially apologize for talking isht. I don’t call myself a fan of your music, but this is BEYOND decent, and this is how all billionaires should behave. This is truly setting the bar, and I salute you for it. Kudos to you madam! May others follow your example!
Quote: "According to People and other outlets, backup dancers on the Eras Tour reportedly received around $500,000 each in bonus money in addition to their regular pay (which was already substantial given the tour’s 149 shows)."
I must say, now that is how you treat people on this scale.
I really think if you are part of such a great assemble, traveling the world en giving so many people a good time. It is so so nice to see that the "normal" workers who make this all possible get a life changing bonus.
I don’t like her music (please don’t hate) but this is why I like her as a human. Her heart is big and she’s kind to others. Wish her , her family , and her crew the best in many years to come.
My guess is after the cost of tech design/sound engineering, staff (not including bonuses), insurance, logistics, stadium cuts, and things like costuming/catering, the take home was $800M. Makes sense the bonus was around 25% of her take home.
She repeatedly has said she spent most of her eras check buying her masters ($360M), so my guess is the rest of the money will be spent on keeping her employees happy while she slows down and to help pay for music videos.
but 200 million bucks ain't that lol. There are a lot of smaller numbers that would have gotten her the same reaction, if it was only about the reaction.
This is how you lead. Taylor will never miss that money, and it changed probably every single one of those people's lives. I bet a lot of them would lay down in front of traffic for her.
My dad used to say that any manager can make their employees do something, but good leader's team will WANT to do it.
I don't know much about Taylor Swift, but that's a classy thing to do. Sounds like folks got at least 100k in bonuses each. That's awesome. That's a life changing amount of money for a lot of people.
As someone who was in elementary school with her. Is nice to see someone from my school doing great. Even if I'm in a shelter at the moment, still nice to see.

The 2% law in France was proposed by a Economist. He said that the 1400 families that have more than 100 millions $, they are not paying a lot of taxes and they gain like 800% of their fortune through 1996-2024.

Proof that the rich can use their money to create a better life for others while not feeling the hit at all. just wish they all werent so greedy.
Trickle down economics actually doing its thing with Taylor Swift
That’s the way it should work, I’m not a fan of her music but I’m a fan of anyone who shows that kind of generosity
It's insane to me that more billionaires don't do this. If I had that kind of money that's all I would be doing. Making people's day, week, month, year, etc.

MacKenzie Scott is her name!!!! Say it out loud!!!
Completely agree. My poor ass works in Education lol.
Thank you for your sacrifice!
For those asking I did the googles and crew got a range of 100k to 300k as a bonus depending on their position.
Thank you for doing the googles
Can someone confirm by doing the bings as well please?
Bing says it's terminal and we all have 6-3 months to live. Anyone wanna check with jeeves?
Edit: well this became a trip down the internet memory lane
Edit: thanks for the awards!
I tried ajkids.com like I used to once upon a time and it said 404
Edit: jokes aside I tried it for fun after my comment and it keeps trying to reroute between scam looking things, please do not visit!
Damn! $404,000?!
That's my bad, I didn't put in the currency, 404 gil
That might buy you a nice dry ether. How much is that in zeni?
Jeeves died 😭
Whoa spoilers
Snape killed Jeeves
I confirmed this on Snopes
It’s looking like I’ll have to text ChaCha for an answer.
Omfg I used to work for them eons ago (and had, until now, completely forgotten entirely about them)
I too used to google professionally...
I asked Jeeves and it said to downgrade my Windows before proceeding
Bing says Google says it was between 100 and 300k.
I check the GROK and he said giving people bonuses is woke DEI. Unless they’re c-suite types.
That's for the sound/audio/lights/truck drivers. The band and dancers received over a million each in bonuses. There are clips of the dancers squealing "we're millionaires" after receiving the checks.
There is a reason why her band has been with her for 17 years and her backup singers for like 14-15 years.
One of her backup singers said that Taylor basically paid all of their salary throughout covid when they didn't do any work for her.
My bad.
“Don’t let private life issues interfere with work” = The fact that you’re human is an inconvenience to us. Don’t act like one or we’ll replace you.
Had a boss tell me not to being my bfs body to work after the funeral when i told her i needed a day off for it. Like thanks for the sympathy boss!
Yikes, what a psychopath.
How I imagine these classes go:
If she's giving out six figure bonuses, I really don't give a shit what the contract says. I'm gone before the call ends.
All I need to see is the Caller ID. Fire back a text as I'm walking: OTW, meet you on the tarmac.
I doubt they have to drop everything when Taylor calls. That said, given how loyal she's been to them, every single one of them absolutely would.
She’s like the complete opposite of Ellen Degenerate.
Ellen the (not so) Generous
I remember that the news of her giving bonus to truck drivers came out on the same day that the news of Lizzo harassing/fat-shaming her backup dancers came out. It was wild to see the contrast between the two.
I still can't get over Lizzo fat-shaming people when being fat and empowered is like her whole brand
Being fat and empowered isn't special if everyone can do it.
was not familiar with her much other than some songs and kelce stuff, my estimation of her just went up a lot reading all this
Wait til you find out about the food banks, I believe she donated to at least one hunger based organization in every single city the tour went to. Some enough to cover meals for an entire year. She also use to hand pick and wrap presents for her fans. Girl is WILD with sharing her fortune. Basically any way you can think of she has made a donation for.
Yeah say what you will about her, but she takes care of the people who got her where she is.
That’s amazing. My understanding is as that dancers don’t make much.
It’s harder to become a professional dancer than a professional athlete. Source - Stephen King, Life of Chuck
That's why he got into writing
This means that the Era tour had roughly 1,000 people working on it to make it happen. That’s mind blowing to me.
Considering how huge this tour was, 1,000 people is fewer than I thought.
Depending on the schedule, there are usually 3 or more crews leap frogging the setup and tear down. And likely have multiple crews for dancers. The only one that has to be at every single show is the artist.
It was the same dancers for every show
Consider that the tour had two identical versions of the stage and everything needed to perform so one could get to the next city and have enough time to set it up. So basically the biggest tour ever times two.
[deleted]
I was wondering what that worked out to per-person. You got to hand it to her, that's serious money.
Life changing money for most of us
$10,000.00 at once would change my life tbh
Shit, 5,000 would genuinely be a game changer for me. It'd allow me to buy so many things I'm in desperate need of. Making just above the poverty level.
Imagining you just sitting there covered in 5k worth of Yugioh card packs
She’s always been super generous to the people she works with apparently. She gives huge bonuses to the truckers who move her tour equipment between cities too, and always donates a big amount of money to charity in the cities she performs in
She also walks around Arrowhead stadium during Chiefs games and just hands out cash to people working
Goes to show you how much money corporations really have if ONE artist can do this. greed has FUKED the usa
To put this in perspective for the crew this is well beyond life changing amount of money pay level. That is a huge bonus for what they normally make
audio crew on her tour is probably doing 100-200k a year average
And they get that as a bonus for that year. That’s some good shit
I usually get $100 to $300 at my work.
This year I might get 0.
My husband gets a ham.
Should have majored in dance.
And my boss refuses to give me a ten cent raise
Edit: thank you for the award! I now have .30 cents in reddit cash sitting there teasing me. I might be able to pay my phone bill with that .30 cents. Thank you! I can at least afford one more month of my reddit addiction!
Also have to say I legit got a job offer about an hour after posting this joke on the toilet I thought no one would see. It brings me so much joy to know how many others there are out there just like me..suffering.
If you want a raise you need to apply at a different company. That’s how you increase pay today. Loyalty is not rewarded. Show them the same courtesy.
Yep. Leverage works wonders sometimes. Just make sure you actually have the new job if you want it.
Most people advise not to do the competing offer thing. Unless your company has a horrible staffing crisis, then you're going to be 1st on the chopping block come layoffs or anything else.
If you want more money, then you job hop.
More important to me : if I'm going through the pain of getting and aching interviews, I'm gone. My current employer's chance to keep me was when I asked for a raise without having a competing offer.
“Mr. Corleone never asks a second favor once he's been refused the first.”
Exactly this
My company literally had written in the handbook that off cycle raises will not be considered unless they employee produces a valid offer that is higher than the current rate
That's sketchy. You've got to be careful about doing this. If some managers/HR get wind of someone applying for external jobs, they'll begin soft firing them and looking for replacements.
Literally Mr. Scrooge. Damn I'm sorry.
Nothing like being generous to get people to work harder for you.
She made enough money to give the staff 200 million and buy all her masters back that's actually insane.
Evidence that they won't screw you if you hire them in the future.
thats gotta hurt
It's nice to see an absurdly wealthy person who understands the position they're in and appreciates the people around them that help.
Poor girl has to hit her nebulizer she's so excited.
That's pretty awesome. Way to go, Taylor.
At least Taylor Swift seems to have the decency to pay her staff decently.
Meanwhile, 90% of us in corporate jobs are putting in crazy hours to be paid half what we deserve. This is across the ladder unless you make the top 15-20% of the employees in the company.
I didn’t even notice the inhaler when I first watched this! Good catch.
I'd be puffing that thing like crazy.
If I get a 100k bonus I don't care if it's for PR 😂
This is why I get so irritated with the people who will come out and say “oH sHes JUsT dOInG tHIs foR Pr, shE dOeSNt aCtualLy cAre aBoUt thEM.”
Like dude even if that is true, who cares? That’s life changing money for people.
Yep, she is quite literally putting her money up when she doesn't have to. Whether you like her or not that is unique, and to those people it is life changing.
even if it was jut for PR, still dope.
There is a blog post from 2015 which has really stuck with me titled, The Copenhagen Interpretation of Ethics.
TL;DR
Look at the vitriol she is receiving in this thread for a clear example. Even though this is objectively a good thing she has done which has had a positive impact on others, by doing anything at all she has made herself a target for criticism.
People in this thread have likely spent more time tearing down Swift for not giving enough than they have other artists who have given nothing at all.
If the crew felt entitled or resentful you would have seen it in the body language. There’s clearly appreciation here.
I’m not a fan of her as an artist but the way she treats her employees is truly remarkable. Companies should take notes
Wallstreet is the problem.
I have always said one of the top three worst things to ever befall humanity was the stock market.
Even somebody as wealthy as her “notices” $197 million. I only say this to underscore that this is is a really classy move on her part
Thought the dude was saying "fuuuuuuuuuuuuu" for five whole seconds.
I think making this public is actually a good thing as it may inspire others to do the same?
That is EXACTLY what I was thinking! Maybe HUGE companies with execs making $$$ hand over fist might think about a Xmas bonus for people working 40-60 hrs busting their ass for next to nothing
It’s how companies used to run. Now boards and CEOs eat up all the profits instead.
That makes even more sense, rather than "This last year was great, here's $100k."
I doubt this is the only bonus either, it's probably just the big one because Eras was insanely popular.
I feel like you can be happy for his windfall AND also be angered by the processes of the Orphan Crushing Machine that led to him losing his pension.
You’re not wrong about the corporate greed part with that guy’s story.
GM screwed him over and he’s not the only one either.
And apparently each card was HAND-WRITTEN.
She did more than right by her crew.
To be fair, I would also accept a 6 figure check if the card had a machine-printed message.
I would accept a paw print from a dead raccoon for that much
I had to put my dog down this year. I didn't want the ashes as I was afraid it would be a constant sad reminder. My friend convinced me to get them. They had a card inside the little tote it was delivered in with his paw print. I nearly died.
I wouldn't care if it said "Hey shithead, here is you bonus"
couldn't care less
but I agree
This should also be normal. Many times have I worked my ass off to watch my various employers brag about record profits while we get nothing. And then a few years later their obvious blunders leads to less profits and a bunch of workers take the hit, getting fired and mistreated while the boss still gets a new Ferrari.
We own most of the risk. We should get some of the rewards when things go well too. So when a tour breaks record after record, I'm sure it is all because these people worked really hard and did a phenomenal job. They deserve it more than any CEO
but the free pizza party....
Meanwhile my corporate job cut our $1,000 (before taxes) holiday bonus…
My corporate job reduced our healthcare benefits, cut remote work, increased our ticket responsibility 5x, removed our bonuses, cut our stock awards at certain year marks, then shit talked me for taking time out of the office after a suicide death and a cancer death in my family in the same month.
Guess who quit?
Fuck yall, idc if a camera is on me I GOT HOW MUCH???? I'D BE CRYING TOO🤣
- Wasnt born before 1980
- Didn't buy the dip after 2007 crash
- Didn't buy house while in kindergarten 2008
- Didnt buy bitcoin in 2013
- Didnt invest in NVIDIA in 2019
- Didnt work on Tylor Swift's tour 2025
GG guys. It was a good run. I'll go learn java or sm.
good on her tho.
If you want to make it worse, java is a great choice.
That crew will officially die for her.
If only CEOs could be this way
This also is not a publicity stunt, she has treated her crew excellently since the beginning.
Life changing money for most.
Wow. We got a positive Taylor post
Next time she goes on tour how do I get in on it? I’ll push a cart or move boxes or whatever!
A lot of these people dedicate their entire lives to these types of jobs. It's an entire lifestyle to work in their industry.
Right lol I'll fucking scrub toilets
Ok Taylor, allow me to officially apologize for talking isht. I don’t call myself a fan of your music, but this is BEYOND decent, and this is how all billionaires should behave. This is truly setting the bar, and I salute you for it. Kudos to you madam! May others follow your example!
She's known for taking care of her employees(even temporary ones). She also tips generously at restaurants as well.
She also donated to food banks in the UK in all the cities if her tour!
Oh yeah? Well everyone at my job got $10 Starbucks gift cards! In your face Swift!
Quote: "According to People and other outlets, backup dancers on the Eras Tour reportedly received around $500,000 each in bonus money in addition to their regular pay (which was already substantial given the tour’s 149 shows)."
Damn, and my company (which is making record profits), is cutting our pay by 5% by may of next year.
Im not a fan of TS but how can anyone criticize this gesture of generosity? Awesome.
I must say, now that is how you treat people on this scale.
I really think if you are part of such a great assemble, traveling the world en giving so many people a good time. It is so so nice to see that the "normal" workers who make this all possible get a life changing bonus.
Elon? Zuckerberg? Bezos? Ellison? Page? Brin? Waltons?
I don’t like her music (please don’t hate) but this is why I like her as a human. Her heart is big and she’s kind to others. Wish her , her family , and her crew the best in many years to come.
Take note, every other superstar.
I did one Beyonce show during her last mega tour and was paid like shit and treated like shit.
I use this as only a comparison to the two performers fame, net worth, etc.
Most performers pay like crap.
But T. Swift is better than all of you in every single way
If the bonuses were $197M, what the hell did that tour gross in revenue?
Just shy of over 2 billion
My guess is after the cost of tech design/sound engineering, staff (not including bonuses), insurance, logistics, stadium cuts, and things like costuming/catering, the take home was $800M. Makes sense the bonus was around 25% of her take home.
She repeatedly has said she spent most of her eras check buying her masters ($360M), so my guess is the rest of the money will be spent on keeping her employees happy while she slows down and to help pay for music videos.
The crazy thing is: almost all major tours could do this. It’s taken this long for someone to do it
Yo phony altruism is a real thing.
Egoistic Altruism is also a real thing.
but 200 million bucks ain't that lol. There are a lot of smaller numbers that would have gotten her the same reaction, if it was only about the reaction.
I don't love her music but she seems pretty cool.
This is how you lead. Taylor will never miss that money, and it changed probably every single one of those people's lives. I bet a lot of them would lay down in front of traffic for her.
My dad used to say that any manager can make their employees do something, but good leader's team will WANT to do it.
Rich women are better at giving away their money than men.
So she has 125 core crew, but additional crew city by city puts the total crew close to 1,000. I imagine her core crew got the lion's share.
I will never ever understand why so many people seem to look for a reason to hate on her
I wouldn't even call myself a swiftie but this is how you do it.
