Looks like I stirred up a mess yesterday and I wanted to apologize to my Wasteland Family.

I wanted to use the pictures to convey my thoughts and a "what could be".

I am 100% in agreeance with the overuse of AI and all that and will abide by the new rules.

Maybe too much detail, but I used to be able to draw and create, but due to a work place accident, I am no longer able to manage a lot of that (both physically and mentally).

Hope everyone has a great day!

  • When thinking about using AI to create an image it's good to ask oneself, is the image I'm trying to create worth draining a community's water supply in order to steal from other artists.

I mean, you could say the same for eating meat.

I don't think eating meat plagiarizes anyone, but yes factory farming and modern methods of soy production absolutely destroys environments and we should consider that when making our purchases. I for one love coconut water, but have you seen the studies on coconut transport outside the islands they grow? It's devastating.

And yet as devastating as all that a single AI Data center is worse than it all combined. Some of these drain more waters than entire countries.

    And for what? auto Plagiarism?

modern methods of soy production absolutely destroys environments

Sure, any modern method of mass production is terrible for the environment. However, animal husbandry is always going to have a vastly greater environmental footprint than a plant based alternative. What do you think most farm animals eat? Corn and soy. Cut out the middle man and eat it directly.

Not the same thing at all lol

    Nice try though

It's worth it because I'm an animal and I need food to survive dude.

It's not nearly the same as creating some useless junk with an AI model.

Same, we all need food to survive. Meat is not necessary for survival.

  • Apology accepted.

  • No reason to apologize for something that wasn't against the rules, and you thought the community would enjoy.

And as someone with an industrial hand injury, I can understand how you feel about the loss.

  • Meh don’t worry about it. I understand and side with no AI use but we don’t need to be berating each other over it. Simply not commenting or just downvoting Ai should be enough to discourage it. Is your image still up? May as well be since the resources to make it are already used.

  • No you shouldn't have to apologize for it

For a subreddit that claims to be fans of George Miller they still hate that he likes AI

This online obsession with hating new technology is getting very tiresome

I mean, we should be excited at the idea of feeding machines all of our drinking water while they also suck inordinate amounts of power from any grid they’re on… while eliminating millions of entry level jobs. I genuinely don’t know why people would be upset at that… I mean I get to talk to Sonic the Hedgehog, how cool is that?!

As an artist, I think it is totally valid hating a technology that steals from our work to recreate a soulless copy, while also taking jobs from us.

Not to mention the huge energy and water costs.

    You're describing fanboys, not fans.

It's funny to me that people treat something like Reddit as sacrosanct. Oooohhh, the Photoshop meme you slapped together in 2 minutes is obviously so much better and higher effort than that AI meme someone generated in two minutes.

Get over yourselves people, it's the internet/social media; 99% of it is is trash, has always been trash, and will always be trash. We are recycling borrowed pop-culture content here, not painting the Mona Lisa.

That being said, I do get AI bans for art and music subs, but for everything else it just feels like a classic moral panic.
