Last time I went to a dealership, I asked them to go 2k under their sticker price. It was high mileage, been on their lot for 4 months, and other similar vehicles were around that price. They said no and mocked me, then called me RELENTLESSLY for the next 3 weeks to the point I had to block them. I checked their website for giggles, it was listed 3.5k less than when I made an offer. Anyone shedding tears for the dealership either have never bought a car before, or don't realize how badly they got screwed on their purchase.
i already pre bought a car. i went to pick it up when it got in. all i had to do was fill out paperwork and sign for stuff i was already approved for. they let me come in after hrs to pick it up as there was some things they had to work out on their end. still took 4 hrs to do everything LMFAO. it was just me the salesman and the manager.
I used to work in car sales. I can explain this. In an afterhours situation like that, there was probably a breakdown with the detail team somewhere so there’s one guy stuck doing the entire new car full detail experience, which takes time. If the salesmen didnt checked sooner and was told it was “getting taken care,” the fact it was still not done 30 minutes before closing with 2 other cars with people there are still ahead of it. He or she begs one of the detailers to please stay late and get it taken care of because it was supposed to be done. Now, they gotta stall for time if the car isn’t done yet. That’s one example. There are other factors.
So the finance manager makes money in a percentage point on the finance rate of the loan in most circumstances, but they also make money on the aftermarket stuff, like wrap warranties and maintenance plans. They don’t really make money for anything else except a few dealer bonuses for certain kinds of leases.
The sales manager has to type up all the car details, finance rate approval details, or make sure they’re accurate and correct from what’s been input earlier by the salesmen for the vehicle and license info. There are times cars have the same last 6 of the VIN, same color, same model, but completely different trim models that the wrong car could easily be selected. They gotta put all this shit in a fucking ancient system a lot of the time, and this process takes some of these dinosaurs forever. And then they have to send it to the finance person, who if there was a tentative lower approval earlier on a rate, the finance manager has to sometimes call in to get conditions lifted/waives for things like requesting pay stubs. And that can require a game of phone tag and back and forth. These are just the issues I saw working at a couple different dealerships. I also had an auto broker license, and the amount of dealerships that I did deals with that had the same sort of issues was astounding.
The only way to eliminate that hassle completely, we found, was in doing home deliveries, where the papers are printed. There are 3 contracts. One has normal agreed upon deal. The other 2 have different add-ons. Sign which one you want. Car was detailed and delivered to your home so you didn’t have to wait there. We take your trade-in. That was the only way we could completely eliminate the hassle, and it was amazing the amount of people who preferred this method and actually took the aftermarket warranty plans when it was presented as an option without being pressured after being forced to wait for hours.
This is all anecdotal evidence of course, but in my experience it is still very much an old school industry that still has classic failures to communicate between departments that leads to slow moving processes.
In many cases the solution is to hire more people, and businesses, especially car sales, aren’t gonna do that just to improve customer experience, same with upgrading the ancient systems they use. Some of these are DOS programs from the 80s. They’re only gonna do that if it increases profit margins enough to be satisfied with the money spent. Like if you thought haggling with those asswipes over a car was hard, try negotiating your pay with them. If you want a raise in commission or a salary for extra duties you took on to help out, you will have to fight tooth and nail for months. Getting them to hire more people is an even bigger nightmare.
the dealers been amazing to me with everything. gave me free tint for inconvience in receiving car when it was a software bug and nothing they could do. picks up and drops off my car whenever i have issues with it.

I went one day to see what I wanted (found online). Told the guy I wanted it and gave him my info. Told him to call me when he's ready. Its a no haggle dealership so I didn't have to fight or play games with anyone, and I've already compared the price, so it felt like a fair deal. He called me a day or two later and said I can come in, sign, and pick up. So I went that night and it took like 30 minutes from walking in the door to cruising off the lot. I'll try and buy from them anytime I need something. The first car I bought was games galore. Spent hours there waiting each time and every time I called the price went up, and when I went to pick it up a "new policy" had been added to buying out a lease and would cost $1000 more now and still took 4+ hours to take it home. It was a bigger dealership but cmon. I made the mistake of being friendly and telling the salesman that I needed the car ASAP for whatever the reason was at the time, so he knew he could stick a pinecone up my ass. Fuck you Atlantic Hyundai.
They don’t work until the customer is present and even then, half the time when they go “talk to the manager” they’re discussing your disposition to decide what to put on the contract without your consent to see if you’ll just sign it.

Well, car dealerships are a thing for the same reason franchising is a thing. The company that designs and manufactures the cars arent (edit: always) in the business of selling them. They outsource the selling part to other businesses that take on their brand name.
Edit: there's other reasons as well. Like dealerships are required to have repair facilities as well as ways to take run down cars to be recycled and so consumers have a way to get rid of their old car when buying a new one.

Last one I dealt with couldn't explain some obscure tax added at the bottom of the contract then acted pissy when I refused to pay it which was almost 10% of the subtotal on a fairly used model.

depends on the type of dealership you work at. I worked at a high-volume dealership where you get paid based on how many you sell a month + bonus cash if you get past unit thresholds. If you could get 20+ a month a pretty good paycheck, but anything short of 15, and you are struggling.

A customer test driving multiple cars means they probably like the brand and there is always a chance they could come back to purchase a car. Real salespeople understand this and see the opportunities to sell. Be rude or show your annoyance and the customer will make sure to never come back.

Bc in most states, they're required by law. So instead of buying straight from a manufacturer, you have to pay more for a guy to sell you it. It's a really long list to go into on why ppl might have an issue and tbf not every sales person falls under this. But some examples:
- a lot of people nowadays don't want to haggle. They want to see a price and pay it, knowing they got the best deal. But many dealers are willing to haggle so they start of with an expensive price, then work down if you force them and many people are too shy or timid to counter offer.
- they pressure you to buy warranties and insurances or upgrades you don't need
- they'll offer you financing on the highest percent you'll take vs the lowest percent you could get. For example, I got offered financing, I contacted another bank and got a lower offer, so the dealership countered. Who knows how low I could have gotten if I went back to the second company again.
- The truth is, manufacturers could easily vertically integrate dealerships into their model and cut prices by 5-20% but bc it's law that they can't do this, the customer pays more.

If the salesmen didnt checked sooner and was told it was “getting taken care,” the fact it was still not done 30 minutes before closing with 2 other cars with people there are still ahead of it. He or she begs one of the detailers to please stay late and get it taken care of because it was supposed to be done. Now, they gotta stall for time if the car isn’t done yet. That’s one example. There are other factors.
So the finance manager makes money in a percentage point on the finance rate of the loan in most circumstances, but they also make money on the aftermarket stuff, like wrap warranties and maintenance plans. They don’t really make money for anything else except a few dealer bonuses for certain kinds of leases.
The sales manager has to type up all the car details, finance rate approval details, or make sure they’re accurate and correct from what’s been input earlier by the salesmen for the vehicle and license info. There are times cars have the same last 6 of the VIN, same color, same model, but completely different trim models that the wrong car could easily be selected. They gotta put all this shit in a fucking ancient system a lot of the time, and this process takes some of these dinosaurs forever. And then they have to send it to the finance person, who if there was a tentative lower approval earlier on a rate, the finance manager has to sometimes call in to get conditions lifted/waives for things like requesting pay stubs. And that can require a game of phone tag and back and forth. These are just the issues I saw working at a couple different dealerships. I also had an auto broker license, and the amount of dealerships that I did deals with that had the same sort of issues was astounding.
The only way to eliminate that hassle completely, we found, was in doing home deliveries, where the papers are printed. There are 3 contracts. One has normal agreed upon deal. The other 2 have different add-ons. Sign which one you want. Car was detailed and delivered to your home so you didn’t have to wait there. We take your trade-in. That was the only way we could completely eliminate the hassle, and it was amazing the amount of people who preferred this method and actually took the aftermarket warranty plans when it was presented as an option without being pressured after being forced to wait for hours.
This is all anecdotal evidence of course, but in my experience it is still very much an old school industry that still has classic failures to communicate between departments that leads to slow moving processes.

In many cases the solution is to hire more people, and businesses, especially car sales, aren’t gonna do that just to improve customer experience, same with upgrading the ancient systems they use. Some of these are DOS programs from the 80s. They’re only gonna do that if it increases profit margins enough to be satisfied with the money spent. Like if you thought haggling with those asswipes over a car was hard, try negotiating your pay with them. If you want a raise in commission or a salary for extra duties you took on to help out, you will have to fight tooth and nail for months. Getting them to hire more people is an even bigger nightmare.
the dealers been amazing to me with everything. gave me free tint for inconvience in receiving car when it was a software bug and nothing they could do. picks up and drops off my car whenever i have issues with it.

I went one day to see what I wanted (found online). Told the guy I wanted it and gave him my info. Told him to call me when he's ready. Its a no haggle dealership so I didn't have to fight or play games with anyone, and I've already compared the price, so it felt like a fair deal. He called me a day or two later and said I can come in, sign, and pick up. So I went that night and it took like 30 minutes from walking in the door to cruising off the lot. I'll try and buy from them anytime I need something. The first car I bought was games galore. Spent hours there waiting each time and every time I called the price went up, and when I went to pick it up a "new policy" had been added to buying out a lease and would cost $1000 more now and still took 4+ hours to take it home. It was a bigger dealership but cmon. I made the mistake of being friendly and telling the salesman that I needed the car ASAP for whatever the reason was at the time, so he knew he could stick a pinecone up my ass. Fuck you Atlantic Hyundai.

Well, car dealerships are a thing for the same reason franchising is a thing. The company that designs and manufactures the cars arent (edit: always) in the business of selling them. They outsource the selling part to other businesses that take on their brand name.
Edit: there's other reasons as well. Like dealerships are required to have repair facilities as well as ways to take run down cars to be recycled and so consumers have a way to get rid of their old car when buying a new one.

When I was 19 I went to test drive a used car but ended up with several salesmen keeping me waiting for like 4 hours then tried talking me into buying a brand new car I obviously couldnt afford. (Went in for. 8k car and they brought out a 35k car) I stayed like a dumbass cause I was too anxious to get up and go
I agreed to test drive it "for fun", after 2 hours they came with more salesmen and paperwork ready for me to buy it. I was alone and didnt know about all these tactics they use to wear you down. Fortunately my bank didnt allow me to take the amount needed for a deposit

depends on the type of dealership you work at. I worked at a high-volume dealership where you get paid based on how many you sell a month + bonus cash if you get past unit thresholds. If you could get 20+ a month a pretty good paycheck, but anything short of 15, and you are struggling.

To add to your comment, salespeople that are actually good at their jobs shouldn't be annoyed at this. They can use this to their advantage to help the customer narrow down their choices, or encourage them to come back when they've made their decision.
A customer test driving multiple cars means they probably like the brand and there is always a chance they could come back to purchase a car. Real salespeople understand this and see the opportunities to sell. Be rude or show your annoyance and the customer will make sure to never come back.
It’s more of having to deal with the content filming shit and then not getting the sale. Not only is she an extra hassle for a salesperson, but you’d usually assume she’s a slam dunk to buy it. Otherwise why else be filming that shit, right? So not buying would be extra crushing.

Bc in most states, they're required by law. So instead of buying straight from a manufacturer, you have to pay more for a guy to sell you it. It's a really long list to go into on why ppl might have an issue and tbf not every sales person falls under this. But some examples: - a lot of people nowadays don't want to haggle. They want to see a price and pay it, knowing they got the best deal. But many dealers are willing to haggle so they start of with an expensive price, then work down if you force them and many people are too shy or timid to counter offer. - they pressure you to buy warranties and insurances or upgrades you don't need - they'll offer you financing on the highest percent you'll take vs the lowest percent you could get. For example, I got offered financing, I contacted another bank and got a lower offer, so the dealership countered. Who knows how low I could have gotten if I went back to the second company again. - The truth is, manufacturers could easily vertically integrate dealerships into their model and cut prices by 5-20% but bc it's law that they can't do this, the customer pays more.

2 hours when you’re not streaming and a serious customer, very normal, my dad took the good part of the day to buy a 41k dollar car, and that’s well within his budget. But as soon as you’re streaming your car shopping, especially with a low follower count, the salesman knew he was wasting his time.

They're a car salesman WHO CARES. These people LIVE to deceive u and make you pay as high a price as possible with a bunch of sneaky ad ons that you never need, want or use, for a car that they know is BARELY in ur price range so they extract as much value from you as possible while crushing you under high interest and insane monthly payments just so they can get a little commission. Fuck them, car debt is literally one of the major problems in the US right now because of how scummy these people have been especially in the last 6 years since Covid
