Please put transfer talk in YNWSA!

  • Good morning reds. We are receiving a huge influx of brigading and trolling from rival fans, not just gooners. Please don’t engage and just report them as you see them.

This is not an invitation for you to a) go trolling back, you will be banned here as well and b) for you to report anything you disagree with as a rival fan trolling.

    Thanks - LFCModTeam.

  • Hypothetically speaking, how do you think our current squad would do under Jurgen Klopp considering we have more technical players and lesser physicality and pace compared to the previous klopp squad?

This squad sucks, Klopp wouldn’t do much good with it, but you’ll see him applying his idea like he first came in only for him to shout ‘play fucking football!’, slots doing the same without a deep lying playmaker he wanted since day 1, the transfer record breakers aren’t as crazy as you think, we paid for potential with Wirtz ekitike and kerkez, none other than Heki showed what they cost, and Isak is done fir the season, even frimpong was out for majority of the season so far, then we have aging veterans no longer at their peak, so Slot not only lost Jota, his signings were performing way below par and injured, and he’s got to deal with mo and his agents shenanigans.

The only criticism for Slot is that he listened to some of the egos in the room and kept playing them instead of dropping them earlier to stabilise and find the balance the team needed.

Honestly, incredibly poorly. Klopp's system requires a very highly skilled DM and we absolutely do not have that right now. Wirtz as a false nine works well along with Eki and Salah but the midfield will be an issue

True. Wirtz as a false 9 would do impressively well. Hendo - Gini - Fabinho would be physically overpowering. Their ability to keep the ball under pressure was exceptional. And ofc Fabinho was a tank.

  • Mighty Mo and Egypt afcon quarterfinals later today

  • Thank God Barcola clears Semenyo anyways ,we need guehi before anyone else gets him his ball playing abilities is very much needed in this squad we need someone who can break those lines from deep apart from Virgil

  • Honestly how cringe is that rosenior fella? Vibes of Arteta, ange, etc also slot at times just too try hard

Expand on this for me please I haven’t seen any clips or articles on him yet

Just how performative he is. Shaking every journo’s hand, saying he’s great at the job etc. very try hard

  • So are we just gonna get hit with the “Conor Bradley today successfully underwent surgery on a knee injury” at some point later today, like we did with Isak? Surely they know what it is by now.

  • Do we not usually do a sticky thread for January transfers?

  • So I guess Semenyo isn't coming?

    /s

    What gave that away

    Just had a feeling

  • Are the Yan Diomande quotes about him wanting to play at Anfield for Liverpool recent? Just seen them all over the timeline but it's hard to cut through all the crap and get an accurate response.

    i believe 2-3 months ago

  • Can any of the new youth CBs play against Barnsley? I really don't wanna see Robbo at CB again...

Lucky or Nallo. I’d put money on Lucky at least coming off the bench.

Wouldn’t complain about Endō in at CB, get him some reps.

    Isn’t Endo injured?

  • Is the last game of the season always definitely on a Sunday? Sunday, May 24th this year?

  • Congrats to Pep for finally reaching 2 billion euros spent at Man City with Semenyo’s transfer.

It is insane how much he’s spent in his tenure there, with 2nd place for a manager in that time being Simeone with 1.22 billion.

  • People saying frimpong shouldn’t get a pen for whatever reasons, when it was hincapie who stepped across sideways and into the space frimpongs left foot naturally lands as he runs… but no one mentioned this

But oh macalister was ‘invading’ doku’s space, so doku didn’t foul him, it’s actually macca who fouled dokus cleats with his chest.

Sick of these wordplay. Not to mention those who had to bring Wirtz pen shout into this, that’s a completely different incident.

before var we had controversy, certain teams favoured and big officiating mistakes.

Now we have var we have controversy, certain teams favoured and big officiating mistakes.

All var has really impacted is everyone’s ability to take a decision against them in their stride and say ‘ah well some go for you some against’

Now everything is just layering examples of wrong decisions against each other and trying to breakdown slo mo clips frame by frame to see if someone’s pube was offside or not.

    Sick of it

  • It feels like it goes understated, due to the poor results, how much refs/VAR has screwed us this season. It just keeps getting worse

we should have known what was coming when the crooks oliver and kavanaugh were assigned guardiola's 1000th game

  • All three Mac Allister brothers were on the pitch at the same time once at Argentinos. Kinda crazy

  • Mentally reliving the "Florian Wirtz prefers Liverpool to Bayern" bomba

  • [deleted]

As awesome as Klopp is, at the end of the day, he is just a normal dude like you and me. Find peace with yourself man.

I'm sorry but, this behaviour is not normal.

Please, do reach out to a therapist.

You could have kept this to yourself, frankly.

I mean even by this sub's standards I'm worried about you

Yeah I had some terrible news early this year. My mom is fighting something serious apparently and it may not end well.

You can't get the year right for a start

It's not about starting it right because it's a year. We foundt out my moms very sick

  • so you mean to say he could grow a full head of hair all the while!?

like a striker version of skrtel

    Watchu mean???

Demba ba scored that goal from Gerrard’s slip

Damn I totally forgot about that one

    We all want to forget.

  • I didn't know we had a 600 game streak of registering a shot on target? That's madness.

I don't think that's really madness. That's like the lowest bar a top 6 Premier League team should have.

  • Arne Slot’s pre-Barnsley press conference will come out on Sunday around midday. Was filmed after the Arsenal game.

  • Mamar

    Joe Lucky Ibou Robbo

    Nyoni Jones

    Wirtz

    Rio

    Chiesa

    Wright

    Please no mamar. Anyone else

Mamar's played pretty well so far, what're you on about?

His record starting in prem is 1 win and 4 losses. That’s terrible. It’s not all on him, but he is horrible with his feet and hurts our build up big time

    Ramsay RB and Gomez CB.

Doubtful Konate plays on Monday. He barely made it to the Arsenal game after missing the final training session. He needs to get some rest now. I wouldn‘t risk our starting CBs.

Yeah fair enough, I just dont know that Slot would risk Ramsay but hes good enough to be on the bench so he'd probably work

Don’t know that he has a choice. It’s clear the reason he left the starters on yesterday was due to lack of depth and a match he expects our “2nd team” to win regardless. Likely why he moved Jones to the bench as he will be running the show.

True. Wish Jones was there to deck Martinelli personally

  • That dribbling from Flo and a goal would've been so chefs kiss

I was going crazy as he dribbled, was hoping so hard for him just smack it top corner after

  • Nottingham Forest just lost to Wrexham on pens, forest was down 3-1 at one point, the same Nottingham Forest that beat us 3-0 at home. God we were so dire in that run 😅

  • Anyone knows what happened to Joshua Abe. Couldn’t find him on Liverpool’s official website.

    Who?

Oh right, genuinely never heard of him. According to Transfermarkt he's still with the u18s

  • Both Kerkez and Wirtz are starting to find their best form again. Kerkez is doing fine defensively just to start hitting those crosses a bit better. If Macca and Grav can continue playing as good as v Arsenal we can turn this season around.

  • Has anyone here seen any of Antonio Nusa? Pretty uninspiring stats but very young so interested how he looks on the eye. Would much rather Diomande or Minteh.

Big fan of Minteh but he also blows hot and cold and his end product is erratic. His pace and trickery would be something to watch with Frimpong.

Norwegian here! He is absolutely incredible for our national team. Great pace and dribbling, and also has a great strike on him cutting inside. I don't follow Bundesliga, so I can't say how he does for Leipzig.

    Thanks Donzoballll

Whenever I have watched him I’ve liked what I’ve seen form him it’s just his end product that’s lacking currently

Diomande and him are both gonna be top class. Both pretty enigmatic with Diomande being left footed and in a better form. Both are very pacy and have flashed some elite duel winning and finishing at times. Nusa always seems to look better on international duty

Would gladly take both. Idk about Nusa though. Failed a brentford or Bournemouth medical a few years back before the RB move. After isak risk idk. Would really depend on the price like 30-50 million like Grav. I know Diomande is probably 80-100 million

Yeah interesting. Diomande's output this year is significantly stronger and feels like he's good on both sides.

Players who look much better on international duty are massive massive red flags to me. The standard of football is nowhere near European club football.

What happend with his medical? I didn't hear about that.

I’d wager to guess Nusa valued probably 50-60% of Diomande. Diomande is gonna go near 100 and be priced like wirtz I reckon

Something with his back if I remember correctly

Personally I don’t really believe either. We are just being linked to wingers we’ve been liked before like Schade who we were massively keen on in Germany

I think the 100M Euro (not £) that's been quoted in January is just the fuck off price. There's also been reports is closer to 60-70M euro.

I know his talent but given his experience and his fee when they bought him £17M, personally I'd be massively surprised if they tuned down £50M for him. A triple your money deal.

I think they can get that. They’ve got all of Europe interested. They’ve gotten it for Gvardiol. I bet it’s closer to 90 than 60-70

Surely Gvardiol had way more appearances on his belt at that point though?

You're right about all of Europe interested and I do think he's going to the very top. It's not very like us to spend money on player with his experience but id love to see us in the mix.

Tbh i was so against these super flashy players with shooting problems but when Lucho left we need that flair again. My dream winger pair would be Yildiz - Olise but i think neither will be for sale.

  • Lucky and Nallo played the full 90 for the u21s today. This could mean that we don't go with a fully rotated starting XI against Barnsley on Monday, though there is enough rest time for them to play again theoretically.

Robbo Virg/Ibou Joe Ramsey i think.

  • If Connor is as hurt as we expect, then a senior CB/RB coming in this window becomes an absolute priority. With Frimpong as a winger, we only have Gomez at RB. That would leave Robbo as the only senior defender on the bench, absolutely untenable

    But but, Slot out, right?

  • Why does it seem like virg is in every sponsors advertisement that Liverpool does/has, yet Salah is hardly in any? I've seen virg in Expedia, tommy Hilfiger, standard charter, etc. Is that by salahs choosing or the clubs choosing? You would think Liverpool would want to put salahs image out there w other sponsors?

Likely down to image rights which is 100% something Salah would want to retain all of given his advertising deals unrelated to the club. He's probably made more from Pepsi and Vodaphone than he's made as a player.

No one would really know outside of the stakeholders but considering Salah had quite a conflict with Egypt FA using him on a commercial, probably his team has quite strict standards for image rights

    He's the captain

Your guess is as good as mine.

Probably something to do with his image rights.

Yeh def something to do with image rights

  • I'm so glad that Bundesliga is back. It is such a refreshing league to watch. There is hardly any diving or time wasting and most games seem to be well-reffed. I wish more leagues had a similar feel to them

Frankfurt seemed to deserve nothing but at the same time you always expected them to score lol.

Classic bundesliga game. Have to love it

I enjoyed all 90+ mins of that match. Both teams were quite progressive with their attack. It was so much more entertaining than 99% of PL games honestly

  • 2016 was 10 years ago wtaf

Ten years since Klopp had a post-match interview in the Exeter staff kitchen.

We are closer to 2040 than we are to the Hodgson era…

That's horrible and time is a bitch.

Nuh uh! Get that shit outta here

  • Feels bad to say this after having a huge summer, but we honestly need another big summer lol. We need 1 or 2 wingers, a defensive midfielder and also probably multiple CBs (should Koante leave).

    1 winger, 1 dm,1 lb(robbo leaving), 1 rb, 1-2 cb depending on gomez/ibou situation This is all immediate 😂

The fact that the squad needs about 5 players is astonishing, you couldn't have depleted that squad sp quickly with a death cap mushroom laced beef Wellington

This... is some reference for sure

Looking back on the summer, I think I got caught up in the excitement of the big names and didn’t think enough about the depth impact.

    Excluding keepers, we had:

6 first team incomings. Frimpong, Isak, Wirtz, Kerkez, Ekitike, Leoni.

6 first team outgoings. Elliott, TAA, Nunez, Diaz, Quansah, Tsimikas.

I think Elliott and Quansah were more established in the first team but you could also maybe include Morton, Doak, and Phillips in this list.

And then the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

So 6 incomings and 7-10 outgoings depending on how you measure it. It’s a thinner squad than 2024-2025 which was a season that saw Chiesa as the only notable incoming transfer.

The gap hasn’t really been filled in by younger players either with Rio being the notable young player to get selected in the first team squad frequently.

We are going to need depth one way or another this summer.

Edit: forgot to write about bad injury luck which hurts depth a lot too.

there is also the fact that klopp used to use more academy players, which slot does not, which gives even more of a feeling of a shorter squad

We still had a lower net spend summer than Arsenal despite winning the league and not spending the summer before, and sadly losing Jota too.

So in terms of Football Club finances, our summer was bigger than we usually have but overall it wasn't actually a huge one in the gramd scheme of things.

And its been showing since the start of the season. We absolutely need to keep up with spending of the other clubs at the top if we want to stay at the top.

Truth is Klopp carried the fuck out of us with our net spend but other managers we get wont be able to do that.

How others spend is irrelevant, we should only spend according to the squad's needs regardless of what others do. Net spend is and has always been irrelevant. Klopp didn't do anything special with money he had a world class team with several players who worth a shout for the best player in their position in the league's history.

Very simple, Klopp can push players to give at least 120% while other managers cannot. That is equal to 20% spending that we don't need.

Other managers can do that, But the fee paid isn't really representative of the quality of the player. At this point everybody should know that. There are a lot of undervalued players on the market and our recruitment team was great at spotting those and signing them.

Name one manager who can consistently have their player outperform their ability?

Which players consistently outperformed their abilities under Klopp? There's no need to insult our players to prop up Klopp.

Rubbish. Our main competitors are our main competitors because they out spend us.

Man City aint taking the title from us that many times without the amount of mondt they are spending.

Klopp had multiple players that were world class because nearly everything he touched turned to fucking gold (paired with a good scouting team). Its no coincide all these players we bought for middling prices and good but not world class track records all became world class just coz we had the perfect scouts.

Robbo, Hendo, Salah and Trent all became the best because of Klopp.

No, our main competitors are our main competitors because they have competitive squads, it's not because of the specific amounts they spend. Spurs were a lot more competitive when they spent a lot less money than they do now. Man Utd have outspent the rest of the league over the last decade and they've hardly been our competitors.

Klopp did what a top manager does and got the best out of his players, but there was a reason he didn't keep the same group of players he got at the club, we recruited smartly, just because we spent less than half as much on Fabinho than Man Utd did on Pogba it doesn't mean we got less of a player.

Honestly it doesn’t need to be a big summer it’s more about getting the right profiles in it doesn’t need to be some huge amount spent

I think we only need one winger if Rio is actually going to come through and not go out on loan. 2 centre backs if Gomez leaves and a new DM. I think the rumours of Guehi, Wharton and Olise would be spot on for us. If Konate stays and when Leoni is back fit could be a really solid back line.

Olise isn't going anywhere in the summer.

I'm always saying we should've kept the money from Isak and buy 3 players from it. Wouldn't have such a media bullshit talk and also more depth where needed

It's so strange that comments like this get downvoted, just as mine will, if anyone sees it. 200 million on two CF's, no wide players and no CB's. You can support the team while voicing frustration about transfers......

Downvote for caring about downvotes lol

Yea idc, this subs loves a shiny toy more than depth and a balanced squad. And also I don't think Isak is a perfect fit for us but that's a tale time will tell

Except we needed the strikers and he was the best one available, this summer showed us that we don't have an issue with spending so I wouldn't stress too much about how much or where we spend, I would rather have 2 massive summers where we get what we need for however much we need to, take a hit for maybe a season, and then have a few lackluster summers where we just need to fill gaps, than 5 decent summers where we get depth and keep the same general first team

Could've done with a 30-40 mil striker behind Heki

In theory yes but last summers striker market was crazy, even mid strikers were going for upwards of 50 mil

I would prefer the best striker in the league last season if I'm being honest, can hardly account for him getting his leg basically broken

Realistically we’ll get one wide player, a centre half, and maybe a midfielder. Might get two wide players if Salah leaves or there’s a bargain to be had.

  • Will Wright incoming brace Monday you heard it here first

  • So we’re expecting a completely different 11 for the FA Cup game right? 0 subs last night so highly doubt we see Wirtz, Macca, Szobo, Konate, Frimpong, Kerkez, Grav.

Be interesting. Slot can’t afford to lose this with a traditionally weak squad. I really doubt we see more than 3-4 changes. Jones, Mama, Robbo, maybe Rio would be about all. Maybe gives Lucky a game with Virgil

We aren't gonna be playing VVD, I will eat a sock if he starts tomorrow

It will likely be Marma-Frimpong/Ramsey-Gomez-Lucky/Nallo-Robbo-Jones-Trey-I can't be sure but maybe Dom and he comes off early-Rio-Hugo (if fit)/one of Danns or the younger strikers-Chiesa

I think you’d be surprised. Slot can’t afford to lose this game. It’s realistically the only trophy we can win. Ibou will need a break more than Virg.

If you think for a femtosecond that we are going to risk our best player or at least one of our best players against a team that is 17th in League One when we are already light on CB's in the squad I have a lovely bridge to sell you

There are 4 days between the Arsenal game and the FA cup, and another 5 days recovery after the FA cup before the next league game, so I’d expect a bit of a mixed bag of starters and reserves. Especially considering the club’s league position: the FA cup is the most likely route to winning something this season.

    Something like:

    Mamadashvilli

    Frimpong - Gomez - VvD - Robertson

    Endo - Nyoni

    Chiesa - Jones - Ngumoa

    Wright

Not sure how many youth player will actually be involved considering they had a game today

He's gonna put in Ramsay over Frimpong. Man just played 95 min

I can't see VVD starting the FA cup game, he's too important to us. I'd also expect Calvin Ramsay to start at RB. Is Endo back from injury? That would be good.

  • Well, i at least hope we play some of these kids we're signing.

Slot has shown zero interest in our academy. He supposedly doesn't even watch any academy matches, which is hurting our academy tbh. If the academy players don't think there is any chance into the first team, young future ballers either won't sign or leave the academy, along with coaches who think they are wasting their time.

And he stopped young players having sessions with the 1st team, then had all the teams train at the same time, so he can't even watch them even if he starts thinking he might want to.

Yeah unfortunately feyenoord fans said as much too. Thought edwards would make him change but doesnt seem like it.

  • Luis Enrique plz next season if he is available.

  • [ Removed by Reddit ]

  • Szobo 96% pass completion… against Arsenal. Wow We were so good across the pitch, just missed that final striker. Salah, Isak, Eki, any one of them. That team shouldnt be 14pts ahead of us.

  • I think yesterday's performance was really encouraging, and it shows Slot's tactics still work well against elite teams.

However, I don't agree with the view that having Ekitike on the pitch would have likely resulted in a win. I think that assumption underestimates how valuable it was for us to have both Wirtz and Szboszlai playing as false 9s to improve our press and to overload the midfield.

Put Ekitike or Isak on instead, and we probably wouldn't have been able to dominate the midfield in the second half. It would have been a far more open game.

i think it worked well because arsenal is not that threatening offensively, against teams that press high and have strong offensive power like barca or psg, bayern im not so sure how this new setup would fare

Arsenal have the 2nd most goals in the league...

I kinda agree honestly if Salah was available we might have won. Frimpong is fast, but kind of wasteful with the ball.

You put Hugo or Alex instead of Cody and we win.

Move Wirtz (in place of Gakpo) to the left, and you lose the overload we had in midfield. And I doubt Slot would have played Isak or Ekitike on LW, as he's yet to do it.

I'm not going to sit here and suggest we definitely wouldn't have won, but I think it's naive to think it would have guaranteed us the win.

Having Ekitike on instead of Gakpo would have likely meant we had more shots, but it would also probably mean we would have had less possession and faced more attacks.

  • the chance frimpong had at goal which he squared to wirtz, he scored a similar one against us last season which was later ruled out

He was a half-second too late on that pass. I was yelling — that might've been our best chance all game. It was a nice move though

It was the right choice too imo, was just a split second off. I think the square to Gakpo wouldnt have come off Timber(?) had it pretty well covered and prob wouldve put it behind for a corner.

Frimpong's pace getting into those positions has been promising, need to see more of that.

  • [deleted]

Ibou's been very good for about the past ten games ngl

  • Slot really was a bit of a coward for not subbing on Kelleher for penalties against PSG, tho tbf I don't even think Klopp would've done it even tho it's objectively the correct decision

    Are you serious right now?

    yes

The manager and squad went into that penalty shoot-out with seemingly little thought. Nunez should've never stepped up and Kelleher should've been subbed on. He's literally the best penalty saving keeper I've seen in my life. There's a good chance we win that CL title if we get past PSG

Two things, 1) this is a bit of reach in the "finding things to be mad at the manager for" stakes and 2) I don't think you understand what words mean

I'm not finding any reason to be angry at the manager I'm pointing out that managers would shy away from subbing off big name reliable players rather than opt for a fringe player that is a better option in that specific scenario

I don't think you understand what words mean

this has to be the most redditor sentence ever formulated, please inform what words I don't understand the meaning of

could be one of the most pointless comments of all time this

  • If we do go in for a manager this summer with a more sizing brand of football, who do you think it could be? I personally would like any of Glasner, De Zerbi or Xavi (if Madrid let him go). Edit: Xabi

De Zerbi can get fucked, Greenwood apologist.

    I'll have Slot

I am for someone who hasn't been on any of the lists posted here since october

For me the only two realistic obvious upgrades would be Enrique or Xabi - and even the latter isn’t necessarily guaranteed; but it would be romantic. Anyone else would be a sideways step. Not that that might not bring short term gains given the season we’ve had, but nobody but the two names mentioned above would get me really excited.

Enrique is not realistic and Xabi is sort of realisitic but requires significant personnel change to make his system work.

The first two are obviously stupid ideas and the third one is you confusing two people.

  • Between City and Arsenal who would you rather have win the league?

Got downvoted to hell for suggesting Arsenal yesterday. Absolutely cannot stand City

Tbh, if pep is leaving, I think its fitting he gets sent off with the trophy. He has done so much for this league in growing it w jurgen, and while not the most liked manager over the years, respect is due even if you hate the man.

This subs downvote culture is awful. Why is this comment downvoted?? It's a valid discussion and hating City more is certainly a valid standpoint. They literally cheated us out of titles.

Anyways, Im honestly not sure if Id rather City or Arsenal. They're both despicable in their current form for very different reasons. Im not sure I even care all that much. I care about us getting better.

I really can't believe this is such an unpopular opinion. Do people forget the amount of pain they've put us through the last 15 years? They beat us to the title by one point twice, spoiled Gerrard's last chance at a league title, and nearly turned the PL into a farmers league by cheating.

I hate it when sportswashing project wins, so I'd go with Arsenal.

Best case scenario - everyone implodes and we go on an insane run to win it. Best case somewhat realistic scenario - Villa clutches it.
Acceptable scenario - Arsenal wins, fuck City.

EDIT: I know tensions are high and internet fanbases are mad, but at the end of the day Arsenal are a proper club with history, fanbase and love behind them. City are a symbol of what went wrong with football.

Arsenal modern fanbase is the worst in the league. Celebrating Bradley’s injury, snide references to Hillsborough, classism, Jota remarks etc. They are by far the worst for it nowadays.

    So city.

Our rivalry with city was just based on pure football. There was respect and no shit housing. When bad shit happened on or off the pitch there was an honesty and both sides recognised when their own teams/fans were in the wrong. The heights that city and Liverpool took each other to was just something else. I've never seen anything like it.

Contrast that with City's and our rivalry with Arsenal. It's nasty and ugly.

I hated city because of the financial cheating and the fact that they took our rightful titles. However, from a pure footballing perspective it is city, hands down.

Our rivalry with city was just based on pure football. There was respect and no shit housing. When bad shit happened on or off the pitch there was an honesty and both sides recognised when their own teams/fans were in the wrong.

Yeah, just City players singing about one of our fans getting stabbed in Rome, no biggie, pure football.

Our fans smashed up their bus on the way to a game. No biggie. Pure football

Yeah, so you agree that our rivalry with them was NOT based on pure football and respect with no shithousing, unlike what you were implying in your previous post, good.

There were incidents from both sides. It does not negate what I am saying about the respect in comparison with the bullshit that goes on with Arsenal.

to me, city means means no one won 🤷🏽‍♀️

I don't mind either tbh, yeah Arsenal fans will be annoying all summer but it's not that big of a deal imo. And City you're just used to it at this point. I just hope it's a close title race.
