This is honestly sickening to me. Usually I don't care about whatever goofy things the Cluely people are up to but to actively promote disordered eating is disgusting.

  • "Addicted to food" for eating every day? Jfc

You should see my water addiction it's fucking killing me.

Yeah my oxygen addiction is nuts. I read that 100% of people who breathe daily, will DIE!!!

Did you know oxygen is a major contributor to rust and silver discoloration?\ It's bad, I tell ya!

Funny how the non-addicts will also die

Probably from recreational dihydrogen monoxide use.

The big oxygen lobby is trying to hide that from you!

I tried to quit the stuff, but the withdrawal symptoms are brutal!

He’s just so busy “snacking on his chomps”

I actually do get what the guy is talking about here. Temporary fasts like this (ones that last longer than 3 days) can put you in a state where your body just stops asking you to eat -Though it doesn't really work if you don't have enough body fat for your body to live on for a bit. But once you no longer have the painful "you must eat or you'll die!" signals from your body, it's interesting to see how often you end up wanting to eat to socialize, or wanting to eat because you feel like you should have something in your mouth, or wanting to eat for the hedonistic experience of flavor.

I experienced that too when I did 1-3 day fasts. I noticed how much of my usual eating ques were about either habit or craving entertainment or a break.

Unpopular opinion probably, but throwing the "eating disorder" label at any eating pattern that isn't three meals and two snacks is harmful. An eating disorder is not just eating behavior you disapprove of, it's a mental condition.

This guy is promoting the types of behaviors that can quickly develop into disordered eating behaviors and patterns. I understand that an eating disorder is in itself a mental condition that requires diagnosis, however I also think that this guy being so flippant in what he communicates and how on social media is harmful to an audience that is impressionable enough to internalize this sort of advice.

People will really take something simple and try to make it deep.

I get you have to eat to live but most people don't eat because they are hungry, and I mean really hungry not just a bit peckish. Most people eat just because it's breakfast lunch or dinner time, they are just bored or they just want to enjoy the taste of something. Most people could cut their food intake by half and still remain healthy.

His choice of words were poor but not the point he's trying to make.

Fasting for 5 days is stupid though but not as stupid posting about it on LinkedIn so I fully agree with this post.

It's probably not a bad idea to have three meals per day, though, just to eliminate feeling peckish in between and snacking on garbage. They don't have to be BIG meals.

I once posted about eating a boiled potato with seasonings for dinner, and was told that this is "depressing" 😋 Food is just sustenance, doesn't always have to be entertainment. Eat more when hungry and less when not so hungry.

Agreed, the writing isn’t the greatest and LinkedIn is absolutely not the place for people to discuss their personal diets (unless they’re a dietician or something anyway), but the core of the idea itself isn’t nuts.

Even intermittent fasting or fasting for religious or medical reasons for a while will teach you one thing really quickly, which is that we eat for a lot of reasons outside of hunger. Recognizing that is probably useful for anyone who struggles to lose weight.

It’s funny, usually on this subreddit I see people who had a fairly normal thought/observation/whatever and took it into an insane conclusion. Here the only insane thing is the constant treating of LinkedIn like a journal.

There's also different types of hunger! Physical, mental, emotional, cellular, and I think one more that I can't remember right now.

there are people addicted to food, to be fair. you think the 600lb lifers get that way for shits and gigs?

  • I have to eat every day, clearly I have an addiction to food 🤡

  • “… addicted to food…”

    And addicted to fluids.

    And addicted to oxygen.

    Pathetic.

Ban dihydrogen monoxide while we're at it.

food addiction is a real thing, and a lot of supermorbidly obese people have it. it's more akin to a gambling or social media addiction (based on dopamine hits) than a drug addiction (chemically addictive).

  • Even as somebody who likes the occasional fast (36ish hours), it should be done only by people who are well into adulthood (25+), have no history of eating disorders, who have a good plan for how to manage it, and are not using it primarily as a means of weight control. The purpose of fasting should be other health benefits, it should be occasional, it should probably never be much more than 36 hours (where benefits mostly plateau), you need to have an electrolyte plan so you don't do stupid things like he did on day 3, and have a refeed meal plan. It should not be done in the context of any kind of daily, long-term, calorie deficit. Your body needs nutrients before and after the fast so that you do not suffer negative effects, including muscle loss.

I like the cognitive benefits of fasting, changes in mood, and productivity I find I have. It is not a weight loss plan, and if you are using it primarily for that purpose, you will be disappointed. A lot of the weight loss is from dehydration, and you will regain it (as you should). There is nothing you can do with fasting for weight loss that you couldn't just do with a calorie deficit for a few days longer.

It is not a weight loss plan, and if you are using it primarily for that purpose, you will be disappointed. A lot of the weight loss is from dehydration, and you will regain it (as you should).

I've used 24-48 hour fasts as a weight loss plan (in tandem with intermittent fasting) and my experience does not align with what you've said. Obviously fasting causes weight fluctuations on a daily basis, but the weight still trended down over time, as always in a state of calorie deficit.

Yes, a calorie deficit caused by a fast will work, but my point is more that it is entirely unnecessary and not the best way to lose weight. When I say a "plan" I mean something you do consistently. I don't think consistent 36+ hour fasts are a good idea as a primary means of weight loss. I think psychologically and physically there are too many risks. So I'm more objecting to it as a plan than trying to say it wouldn't technically work. If we're being technical, OOP's plan would cause weight loss, it's just a terrible idea that isn't sustainable, and will lead to less weight loss than people probably expect.

I do also think people will generally disappointed if they try to use 36+ hour fasts for weight loss, because even a 48 hour fast will only lead to about 1.25 pounds of mass loss (mostly fat, but some muscle), which for most people really isn't worth it. I think most people picture fasting as causing more long-term fat loss than it actually does. Then on top of that, some people struggle to not over-eat after breaking a fast.

  • There’s definitely something in the water at Cluely

But the weight he “lost” is probably just an empty stomach and digestive system

Either way, why is this in LinkedIn?

“Oh, better work with this guy as he almost passed out through not eating”

Yea I’ve never heard of cluely outside of this sub and yet one 1/6 of posts here are cluely employees saying something insane

  • Like don't get me wrong this would be an interesting thing for this guy to explore on his own YouTube channel as a personal thing. But as a component of the Cluely work-life balance? Enticed into doing it by his boss? It's a sickening thing to post and publish to an impressionable audience.

  • Pro-ana meets workaholism. Disturbing

  • I feel you. I was born with a crippling oxygen addiction. I’ll literally die without it!

  • 5 days without eating is not going to make you look "leaner".

  • Humans are not 'addicted' to eating food.

  • Formula One drivers lose this much weight in the course of a two hour race. Six pounds due to starvation over 4 days is not an achievement.

Burrito finishers are known to gain as much in a 45 minute meal and lose as much in the next day’s digestive process.

  • Why do all these “apps” have stupid meaningless names

  • Wait til this guy hears about breathing

  • daniel - I hope you're never in a position to give anyone advice about anything

  • I get the addiction part cuz I’m a binge eater lol I eat when sad and when bored and just eat and eat I’m not fat or anything but due to my eating habits I became self conscious and started doing heavy fastings I was not as delusional as this guy and I actually knew what I was doing was not a “ fix “ But yeah boredom eating is a real thing

  • They should try not breathing for a few minutes to see how addicted to air they are 🙄

  • I have ADHD and yesterday was super busy so I completely forgot about eating and now I feel like shit. Annoyingly forgetting to eat makes me nauseous and it’s hard to keep food down, ugh. Do not recommend in this slightest.

  • I learned that food doesn't master me, I MASTER FOOD. AI bullshit needs you to be LEAN and MEAN, you can't make life-changing projects while dozing after eating a boxful of donuts. Aggressive builders and doers don't push AI garbage down people's throats while stuffing Cheeto's and Doritos down their gullets, they do it by getting dizzy from hunger and hallucinating! If you want to dominate the upcoming fascist-tech world you need to be ready to put down the burgers and start digesting yourself.

  • Mental. If I deleted LinkedIn tomorrow would anyone care or notice? I’m starting to think I just might.

  • Dude definitely needs to get off of food. Addiction will kill ya.

  • If he even has any friends I bet they hoped he starve to death

  • Guy calls himself a content creator? 😳wow

  • half of high school girls weigh more than this snowflake. A modest gust would break this human straw in half.

  • that's some Immortan Joe shit.

  • Man got nostalgia for his childhood probably

  • CMO…dude has like no experience at all

  • Addicted to food lol. Things I'm addicted to: air, pissing, shitting and sleep

  • You can tell this is bullshit, there's no way Daniel has any real friends.

I've actually met him and he's a nice enough guy but I feel like he's insecure especially with how he posts on his personal YouTube channel....

  • I am also a fellow food addict!

  • [ Removed by Reddit ]

  • Crap I think I’m addicted to food too.

  • it would feel weird to not snack on my chomps

  • Omg does he even have credentials?

  • this cannot be real

  • I mean that's the difference between weighing yourself in the morning and in the evening. Maybe they should re-name the app Clueless.

  • And he will INMEDIATLY put the weight back on because he didn't do anything right and I'm guessing he ate too much, had diarrhea (but of course didn't post about it... or maybe he did), terrible cramps, and is know back in the same place he started, or worse.

  • The human body is able to last 30 days without food???

  • Give yourself an eatting disorder with this one weird trick.
