Well he is a car dealer. Seems like selling cars is a normal thing for car dealers to write about.

There is zero chance that car actually belonged to his wife. It would have been driven around on trade insurance and logged as stock.

I was thinking "how weird he sold the wife's car" then I checked his job title and said as if that was actually her car, she's just driving it until a buyer comes along

yeah that's my guess here, too. if they own/operate an auto dealership then they probably cycle through cars more often than a typical consumer.
