• u/WeirdProudAndHungry, your post does fit the subreddit!

See OP's reply-comment below for context on why this fits this subreddit.

  • "Evangelical Christian people were lied to"

Oh, no they weren't, Poindexter. They knew EXACTLY what they were voting for and they loved it. They voted for him the last time too so this was *absolutely* intentional.

They didn't just love it, they were fucking GLEEFUL, absolutely GIDDY like children, positively SALIVATING, at the thought of ripping apart immigrant families, caging human beings like animals, and shipping them off in chains to nations they might not have set foot in since they were children, if ever.

The thought of punishing millions of "sinners" and "illegals" turned them into a frothing mob, chanting whatever slogans Trump would nod approvingly at from his podium. Ain't so different from how so many of them chant whatever shot their Pastor says and pray for bad shit to happen to their neighbors every Sunday, so they can get the express pass up to Heaven come the Rapture or somesuch BS. They even projected all their own shitty beliefs and prayers onto Trump, the same way they do to God, and now they're shocked the fictional President Trump not-God in their heads don't match the reality of the real guy and what they thought he'd be for them, personally.

They weren't lied to. They just don't like having their blind faith rewarded with the same inhumanity they show others.

And they still ARE gleeful. Not just “were.”

Yup. This dude would still be kneeling at Toupee Fiasco's altar if he wasn't personally affected by this.

    Toupee Fiasco omg 💀

I really should keep a list of these.

Wow this comment belongs in The Louvre. Spectacular and true. 👊🏿 👊🏿

    It'd get stolen there 😉

In fairness, they're getting a new ballroom out of the deal. There's just no pleasing these ungrateful fucks.

Plus love everything else he is doing and Kamala would have been worse

    Very well stated.

My opinion, which I will probably take to my grave, is that organized Christianity’s most profound effect is to train people to separate the “good people” from the “bad people.” It’s not about compassion, or spreading the good news, or helping the poor. It’s spending every Sunday with like-minded people where you feel safe and developing a hatred for sinners who are doing the wrong thing.

My wife’s parents are (or were, in the case of her father who found too late in life that sprinkling holy water was not, in fact not a cure for gallstones) turbo Catholic and the browbeating shit about homosexuality and abortion that the minister prints in the church newsletter is absolutely appalling. Like, egregiously rage-baiting. The church industrial complex is like a hatred factory.

I always thought that the purpose of religion was to give assholes who are too lazy to work a real job free money every Sunday - every week for at least the last 10,000 years, in pretty much every agriculturally based culture on the planet.

Income that, coincidentally, is tax free.

    9.9/10 post.

It would be 10/10 if you peppered in abortion aka the only "human rights" issue they care about.   But then again that was probably covered underneath the sinners umbrella.

Of course it's the only sin they care about. Men won't take any responsibility for abortions at all. You can blame women 100%! Of course it's the only sin they care about.

    It's not a sin... 😉

I'm a Protestant from the "old South" and the Evangelist (capital E) fundamentalists have been completely morally feral for the duration of my whole life.

They specialize in half-winking justification for bad action and mental gymnastics elevated to a grotesque art form.

"Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers. That's what I call my glock, yuk yuk"

They manifest every bad thing that every grumpy atheist grumbles about every religion, gleefully celebrated.

They are the reason why even a lot of people who grew up with good experiences in faith communities quietly cringe, and brace themselves for insanity, when someone else says they are Christian. They are who everyone thinks of.

And their zealotry and xenophobia have been consistently weaponized by cynical right wing political extremists who must have had classical dog whistle training at Julliard.

And there are more of the fundamentalists than the chill kind. Just like there are more supervillains and mobs than protagonists and friendly NPCs.

I have tried really hard my whole life to not hate anyone, but you know what?: conservatives haven't. And they are really testing me lately.

    To put it politely.

That said, there are rainbow flags outside many mainstream denominations now, and a quick google will confirm for a desperate kid where they can find a safe, non-judgemental shelter. My home church is one such, and I am proud of them.

That's how we were taught that it is supposed to be.

Just trying to reflect on something good, I guess; lots of doomscrolling already so far today.

There is a point where hatred is justified. They are making deliberate choices to harm people and will not stop and even see it as righteous. They have chosen to be bad people, and they have chosen to hate people for things that those people cannot change. You cannot change your race or your sexuality, for instance, and they choose to hate people for those things. Those who hate them in return are hating them for things they can, and ARE,choosing.

I recognize your point -- believe me -- but I am wary of matching their mistakes. Hateful people are not auspicious role models, and justifiable =/= advisable.

Doesn't mean I am willing to let cruel, short-sighted fools get away with their bs tho.

The Old Testament only counts when they’re using it against things they don’t like. Otherwise, it’s just that Jewish part of the bible.

This is how they should be remembered in History books.

Compliments. Reads like the lyrics to a David Bowie track.

Evocative, persuasive, a true story and masterpiece comment lol

Yeah they just assumed they were exempt from what they wished on others because they knew the secret password.  An expectation of salvation through tribal identity faith, if you will.

.. through tribal identity and calling it “faith”.

Evangelicals want Theocracy, even if Satan himself delivers it.

"Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 'All this I will give you,' he said, 'if you will bow down and worship me.'" - Matthew 4:8-9 (NIV)

And Supply Side Jesus responded, "Wait, you're saying I'll be the richest man on earth and all I have to do is bend the knee? Sold!"

They never thought it would personally affect them.

Not only was this man married to an immigrant, he also claims that his job was helping the poor and needy as a minister, but still voted for the man who was guaranteed to fuck over the people he serves.

I’m not sure idiot is a strong enough word for this man’s level of ignorance/obliviousness

Won’t they be surprised when they die. “Begone, ye workers of iniquity; I know thee not.”

Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see thee hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to thee?’

Then he will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it not to one of the least of these, you did it not to me.’

The only ignorance here is his feigning of it now. He knew about the hatred, that's what he voted for, he just thought it would be to OTHERS he didn't like. Probably non-straight/cis people.

Maybe he thought Trumps policies would make more poor and needy clients for his job.

It likely doesn't affect most of them, just the random dude like this one.

Doesn't affect most of them yet. That's how the whole in-group/out-group thing works. You run out of "others" and have to expand the definition of who the out-group is wider and wider until, eventually, it's literally everyone but the elites of the Party and even they aren't safe in the end.

Yep just wait til Mormons learn evangelicals don’t think they’re Christian. Or Catholics.

Do evangelicals think they are the only christians?

    In a nutshell: yes.

It likely doesn't affect most of them, just the random dude like this one.

Gonna affect them real soon when the bank forecloses on their farms, and they can't afford healthcare, and all the rural hospitals have shut down as they pay an extra 1-2k a year for everyday goods because of tariffs, not to mention they will likely see a tax increase as well -- all while having job shedding not seen since COVID.

Some of them will say that's not really Trump's fault - it's Biden in a Trump suit who's doing that. It's the flip side of their reasoning during Biden's term that if Biden did something they liked, it wasn't really Biden, it was Trump in a Biden suit. (Incidentally, until I saw the "Trump in a Biden suit" rationalization, I never fully understood the phrase "twenty pounds of bullshit in a ten-pound bag.")

Right? They knew, and it was what they wanted. He just didn't think his face would be on the menu because he's just that special.

You can't bury your head in the sand and then complain you weren't told stuff.

These people are so shameless and craven. How the hell are they not embarrassed?

Evangelicals are the ones saying empathy is a terrible thing. They're not even Christians at this point (if they ever truly were), they're Paulians. I've never seen such hate and disdain as I've seen from evangelicals. I grew up one. They're anti science white Christian nationalists.

They voted for this with glee.

Their martyr, Charlie Kirk, called empathy a "made-up New Age term that does a lot of damage."

I can't stand Paul and they're even distorting him out of existence.

Especially when you consider the ones who follow Qanon and Trump Prophets plus the Prosperity Gospel, I think we're actually approaching the need for a new religious moniker to apply to a lot of these people. They are evolving into something distinct from historical Christianity (to the extent that Mormonism is different from Christianity for example) and this is coming from someone who is secular and really dislikes Christianity overall, with no incentive to defend the Christians from this cancerous growth.

They are beyond heretical in the evangelical movement and the MAGA tradcath revisionist movement- they're forming a new religion based on Christian aesthetics and fascist "morality".

“I voted to be racist, not poor”

I imagined this in Randy Marsh’s voice

    He's got tegrity.

    "Mass Deportations Now"

Basically, what George Carlin said, "It's a big club, and you ain't in it."

He thought he was, so he and his family had no issue pushing pain and suffering onto others because he fell for the "us" and "them" song and dance.

Except that the real "us" and "them" are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat.

If you listen to an evangelical church talk about Trump they absolutely were lied to. The whole point of the church is just using its followers to enrich the preachers. They say he’s a savior. Because they know their money will be protected.

That's an MLM scheme, not a religion.

I think these white evangelicals thought their whiteness would offer protection to those in close proximity to them, especially since proximity to whiteness has been sold as a benefit to marginalized communities foever and those of us who tell the people that buy in it to wake up and the people spewing that lie to get bent are often told to shut up, since we’re not one of the “good ones”

Now look. He got his wife snatched up by ICE.

"I *am* an idiot" my friend - present tense for the rest of your life.

All of this is FOR the Christian agenda. Motion to ban Christianity. Any second?

Nice, I always enjoy an effective use of Poindexter. How stupid can these people be?

  • Wagner said one person she spoke to saw their health insurance premium jump from $100 to $800 a month.

This dumb fuck had 100/month insurance lol. Womp womp

"Yeah, but my insurance should free, and only mine."

    Trump supporters.

I should get this free! But also no one better pay for anyone else because I don’t want to pay for anyone else because that’s SOCIALISM!

Damn. Looks like Obamacare was really working out for them and they voted for the guy who said he'd repeal it and never had a plan to replace it.

They're going to start working on the concept of a plan in two weeks...

go read the story of KYnect and Kentuckians... dont waste time on these people.

  • "Evangelical Christian people were lied to, if you really want to know the truth. And that’s exactly what happened"

    No.

Evangelicals are into religion for the control, not the values or teachings. He played you, knew exactly how to manipulate you and you fell for it again and again and again. There is NOTHING Christian about Trump (and he even said he wasn't a Christian) but you still flew your Trump flags and stuck your "God, Guns, and Trump" stickers. Fuck you, every single one of you.

If anything they played trump. Trump wanted to get rich and powerful. The bible end of things wasn’t his forte. He originally ran as vaguely pro queer. Then his team realized they’re not going to keep power unless they said what evangelicals want him to say and do. Trump then got much more extreme his second time around. Remember, trump is a symptom. He is not the source problem.

Remember, trump is a symptom. He is not the source problem.

Exactly this. Evangelicals embody the worst and most hateful traits of the US. Their incessant whining is getting old. I truly hope his family has the day he voted for.

When he hits rock bottom maybe a fellow pastor can preach to him. Don't forget to tithe!

This is exactly why he'll fail, ultimately. He's not racist enough to ethnically cleanse the entire country of POCs because he and the tech-oligarchs can exploit their labor. He's not religious enough for the fundies because he knows a full national abortion ban will affect hypocrite Republicans and there'd be a huge protest if he starts banning non-Christian religions. He might be the most extremist President we've had in ages, but he'll never be extreme enough to make the worst of the worst happy; authoritarian narcissists want to be loved by all and feared by the minority. These groups want a war criminal.

Don't these loving Christians have a saying for when things get hard for others? I believe it's, "fuck your feelings."

Also, in what way is ministering to poor people "helping the needy".

Evangelical Minister: I know your life is shitty, but don't worry God is torturing you because he knows you can handle it. Things will get better, or if you're really strong, maybe they won't.

Needy person: sir, please if you can spare anything, a can of soup or a piece of bread would be life changing for me

Evangelical Minister: fuck off and get a job. Also don't forget to put some money in the collection plate. Getting laid off and having your house taken is no excuse. God doesn't take time off and he needs your earthy money for whatever reason!

    No lies told.

  • You won! Why are you crying? 🐆👀🍿

  • I’m all for people deconstructing/learning and distancing themselves from the madness

But my guy, he literally told you what he was going to do, and then did it

Exactly how were Evangelicals lied to?

Exactly, they’re still not taking any personal responsibility. They’re not experiencing growth.

“I’m going to vote for republicans every time and assume any negative policies won’t affect me personally. If they do, I’ll say I was lied to by that specific candidate and in no way implicate the party, its policy agenda as a whole, or my role in this death spiral.”

  • Who were the people lying to Evangelical Christians?

Because my memory has it that Evangelical Christians were the ones telling everyone that Trump is a man of God who needs to be lifted up in prayer since he's going to save the beautiful baybees.

I mean, sure, Fox News brainwashed a lot of them. But he told us he was going to deport 11 million people and get rid of the ACA without having another plan in its place. Fox News aired him saying this multiple times. They heard him spout evil and stupid things, but they still insisted he was godly man who would save us all...despite being a convicted, unrepentant crook and rapist.

At least this dude is taking some responsibility by calling himself an idiot. And at least he is speaking out now. I will give him some points for those things. Unlike MAGA, I'm not totally heartless.

Evangelicals especially the rapture-tarded ones are the most cynical voting bloc in the country. They know he’s practically the antichrist but if they can get abortion banned they don’t care. Or any other pet project

Trump being probably our first actually atheist (but not for the right reasons) president is fucking wild to me.

It’s not just Fox News, it’s pastors too depending on your denomination and where you are in the country. Many pastors do not openly support Trump because of his torrid past but will preach about abortion during election season and imply that is the single issue to base your vote on.

  • But this image in black and white make it a little grainy and it's the same as the photos of white people trying to stop Black kids from going to school during and at the end of Jim Crow.

  • “Evangelical Christian people were lied to, if you really want to know the truth. And that’s exactly what happened.”

Wait, people with no critical thinking skills who believe in an invisible wizard in the sky, believed lies??

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!!

It’s almost like they were raised from birth to believe ridiculous things.

You could even say they were groomed.

What stumps me sometimes is that I figured it out at 12, and have been an atheist ever since. Nobody had to convince me, I was in my private Christian school asking questions and getting answers that didn't make any fucking sense. Didn't even follow an internal logic.

I'm not a smart person. I'm not an exceptional person. I do not have a college degree. So while I understand people are different and may arrive at conclusions at different times in their lives...

if I could figure it out, why the hell can't [the plural general] you?

It's my own firm belief that some people really really need it. They're not well adjusted enough to not crumble at the idea of a world that doesn't have a magical overseer daddy that could hypothetically bail them out of trouble if it comes. It's comforting for them, if you ignore the whole "be disobedient and you'll suffer for eternity" part of it which a lot of them cope with by deluding themselves into thinking their behavior is irreproachable.

My mother grew up with abuse and my father got his hooks in her when they were teenagers. Been together ever since, unfortunately. She is one of those people. She clings to the magical sky patriarchy because it's a primer for accepting abuse, because she can avoid all responsibility by chalking everything up to "God's Plan", and because she is terrified of ever being her own person.

Having grown up with their abuse and repeating the pattern of mistaking an abusive man for a savior, I did the same thing, but while being anti-religion. Fortunately I (eventually) figured that shit out too - shoutout to everyone who was divorced by their early thirties - but my point is that I absolutely understand how difficult it can be to accept that what you thought was real and good is actually fake and horrible, it's hard to relate to never getting there.

With the stakes so high and clear evidence of atrocities literally all around us, it's tough to understand how anyone can turn a blind eye and choose Christianity over reality. My revelation came early and was prompted by flawed reasoning. How the hell is this not the epitome of flawed reasoning, which one would hope grown-ass adults can recognize?

I’m with you. And regards to your last two sentences, I wonder the same thing. It’s like those corrupt Supreme Court justices—don’t they realize they’re destroying our country? I guess they care about power more than decency or even our future.

I got lucky in that my parents were former Catholics who were done with church before I was even a thought.

It's not the believing ridiculous things that's the problem.

It's the skepticism, questioning, and science being tools of Satan to keep you from The Truth that's the problem. 'If you think you've found a problem with religion it's because you don't believe hard enough, and that's why you're suffering,' say the people that also claim not to be a cult but the believers of the One, True God. Maybe God should have spent more time proof reading their infallible book; and hiring better promoters.

Christianity, but explicitly dumber and more selfish

And it's not like Christianity outside of the evangelists is winning any awards for selflessness or intelligence

Waaaaaaaaaah I handed a narcissistic monkey, who did nothing but fling shit at everyone, an automatic rifle and then he shot me. How could I have known that it was a bad idea?

The Dems didn't do enough to stop this from happening.

    It's all Biden's fault.

    To follow soon.

The first step in almost all brainwashing and mind control schemes and paradigms is the elimination or suppression of critical and analytical reasoning and thinking ability. “Don’t question, have faith!” and the whole “alternative facts” thing are glaring and blatant examples of just that.

alleged wizard, buddy. We have yet to see any wizardry.

    My shock is shocked! Checkmate.

  • This is refreshing

What's the phrase? Oh right, "Pump it into my veins, doc!"

  • A more accurate statement is, they regret that the consequences of their votes are affecting them.

They do not regret the vote itself.

  • The whole world screamed at these morons NOT to vote Trump in for a second term.

Did they listen? No. They told us we were 'fake news'. And 'leftist lunatics'.

Well suck shit assholes. You just screwed the country that you apparently love so much.

Oh and you also screwed all the U.S's loyal allies over as well.

    Good job!

Oh, they never loved America. They loved what America afforded them. "Ask not what your country can do for you..." Yeah, no, it's completely "Ask what your country can do for you today" now. All about that Grift.

  • “Because I was an idiot. Evangelical Christian people were lied to, if you really want to know the truth. And that’s exactly what happened.”

If he believes that, he’s still an idiot.

He doesn't. He's just lying to cover his ass.

  • “Was”

He used to be an idiot. He still is, but he used to be, too.

  • "Now that it affects me..."

    Classic conservative

  • Please prove that you're not an idiot and vote for Democrats in future elections (and carry receipts if able so we know you're not lying).

  • Wife: Honey, look at all the Mass Deportation signs. They want to get rid of all of the immigrants.

Voter: Oh don't worry honey, they're only after the criminals. They're not going to bother you.

    Wife gets snatched by ICE.

NOW he regrets his vote. Dumbass!! Why isn't God helping you get your wife back? Is he too busy doing other things?

Watching these people get their comeuppance is just finger-licking good.

He's given up on this planet and moved on to some other planet.

  • They weren’t fooled, fleeced, or lied to. Trump’s election platform had a revenge politics and deportation component to it, and he’s doing what he said he would. What I find most disturbing is now that Trump’s policies are harming them instead of “those other people we don’t like”, they have buyers remorse.

I hope instead of focusing on being betrayed by Trump, they deal with the unreasonable hatred they harbor that lead them to vote for Trump in the first place.

  • Sorry not sorry i cannot have sympathy for dumbasses like him....he did not give a fuck about people being arrested for no reason before, i dont give a Fuck about him or his wife( yeah Fuck her too, she know what kind of man she married)

  • Do they understand how political support works?

  • And you still are

  • Got exactly what he wanted. Oh well.

  • "despite his support"

Oh so they think you get perks if you vote for the guy. So they admit that out loud

  • I love this for him during the holidays

  • When are people going to learn that unless the person has personally given Trump at least 100 million dollars, Trump does not know they even exist.

And even then he’ll sign your pardon and forget the name 24 seconds later. Especially given the apparent cog decline on top of never exactly starting on the high end of the bell curve

  • Yep.

Too late now. You voted to have ICE arrest your wife. You get what you voted for.

  • Well he should have known. His wife IS a criminal.

  • More like "I was told the truth but didn't listen."

  • Evangelical Christian. I have issues with the way they preach the prosperity gospel. Like all you gotta do is pray and bad things won’t happen to you. As if that’s how God works.

This lie that living your life right and giving to the church will defend you from the rules of this world. That you’ll be healed or have an overflowing amount of money and good things come your way. Like the story of Job doesn’t exist. Bad things happen to good people. And everyone is afraid of that. So when you’re so reliant on the church to bring good magic your way that you’d do whatever it says and vote for an evil bastard like Trump and your life gets worse than I can only blame your theology and your own fucked priorities.

Keep God out your mouth and own up to what you’ve done. At least that bit of humility is what got Jonah out that whale. But hey, good endings are t common anymore, and it’s because of assholes like evangelicals.

  • The only person who lied to him was the man in the mirror.

His wife was "one of the good ones". All that means is she was a token, and tokens get spent.

  • "Were ministers. We help the needy."

Not by voting for maga, you dont. Fucking idiots.

  • Yay, he admitted it in Congress in a hearing on record. So that’s a step in the right direction. Now how is he going to fix what he broke? Because you can’t just show up once.

Of course not. He's gonna go right back to spreading hate and misery in the name of god, and voting R in the next election once Trump kicks the bucket.

  • This is the first article where someone takes responsibility for having messed up.

  • So happy for him that he got what he voted for

  • No Sympathy.

  • ...but I'm still going to vote Republican. - this guy, definitely

  • The one thing he got right, is realizing he’s an idiot. Still, no excuse. You are a veteran and you voted for Trump?

theres a reason just about every television/monitor without a workload in the military shows fox news 24/7/365 for more than the past two decades. its a psyop.

  • They sure are owning the libs by...

    ...deporting their own wives.

  • And are we now supposed to save you from your stupid self? I suppose we're going to try but will your stupid self actually learn anything from it?

  • Yeah I don’t give a fuck

  • I love to hear this. I need more Trump voters spouses deported.

  • Sorry about how stupid you were. Next time around, try listening to the people who are smarter than you, and voting less stupidly.

Maybe they'll be still able to fix some of the damage that you choosing to "be an idiot" contributed to.

  • Oh well, enjoy what you voted for. Maybe listen next time. It was all written down for you and everything.

  • This person WANTED to believe the lies. Anyone with half a brain knew that the biggest liar of US history was lying.

    Fuck them.

  • He’ll still vote Republican.

  • Raise your hand if you thought that the vile imbecile who put CHILDREN in cages in his first administration would keep ICE from going after hard-work immigrants and only arrest criminals? Anyone? Anyone?

  • What do we want?

    MASS DEPORTATION NOW!!!

    When do we want it!?!

    NOW!!!

    (Votes for trump)

    Cue a shocked Pokémon gif

  • Awww honey, that’s not true..you’ll always be an idiot.

  • O well, fuck you kindly, get fucked. You wanted this to happen to other people and you finally had your face fucking ate. Get fucked.

  • No one was lied to. You just thought the hurt would only come for people you didn't like.

  • He got what he voted for. Now he’s surprised.

  • That’s what happens when you FAFO with the TACO!

  • Obviously G-d is testing him.

  • Who would have known? Next!

  • He was an idiot and still is.

  • These people have shit for brains.

  • What part of "Mass Deportations Now" was the lie?

  • Good thing God’s in his side. /s

  • I have to disagree with this statement.

The person quoted is still an idiot.

  • Are*
    You are an idiot

  • Still are, and always will be.

  • Can't wait until January when all the new prices kick in.

  • Reading between the lines:

"I thought it was only going to be those nasty Muslamics that would have their lives destroyed and I was happy with that. But then I was shocked to find out that the openly bigoted guy, that I was told to vote for by my allegedly 'loving' religion, just decided to target everyone with darker skin or an accent. It's not right! Although if I wasn't personally affected by this, I'd still be absolutely happy with everything."

  • "My wife and I, when we don’t work, we’re ministers. We help the needy. That’s what we do. And that’s who they’re arresting."

Interesting choice to vote for the "hurt the needy" candidate.

  • I guess he missed everyone holding "MASS DEPORTATIONS NOW" signs at the RNC.

  • If only there were signs that said "Deport Them All" to warn everyone of the plan.

  • lol they can get fucked, we all know they will continue to vote [R]

  • They NEVER give a fuck until it affects them.

    Fuck. Him.

  • Things can happen

  • "I used to be an idiot! I still am, but I used to be one, too!"

  • I got a lump of coal for Xmas so now I hate Santa...

  • He IS STILL an idiot.

  • Well… he got one thing right: He is an idiot.

  • He's still an idiot. Given the same quality of info, and promises of the same appeal, he would do things the same way. I'm not convinced that the way he approaches life in general or decision making in specific have changed. At most he knows voting for trump was bad, but the values and appeals trump promised him? he still likes those.

  • I just read about a 1 year old US citizen who was pepper sprayed by ICE. Fuck this man and fuck his wife. He deserves to rot in hell for his vote.

  • Evangelicals are not Americans. They do not stand for the things America was built on. They are a terrorist group of radicalized religious nut jobs. Should not be allowed to vote.
