To be fair, rural anywhere may not have internet (Trump sacked the program bringing the internet to rural America, I wonder why...) and their radio and tv broadcast stations are billionaire owned, and their churches say things like "you have Satan inside you if you vote for any Democrat", so being cut off from the world and all incoming info is curated to make you a hateful POS isn't the easiest thing to overcome.

Now it's not like they can't read the Bible themselves, so it's not like God is going to excuse their lack of knowledge about Christianity just because their pastor lied to them, cuz they could have read the Bible (I did 3x as an evangelical so I know how full of shit they are) but we can be understanding of why they are vehemently against the left. If you don't acknowledge the why, you can't tackle the how.

The GOP made it's bread and butter on overturning Roe v Wade for decades, many Republicans were single issue voters and that was it...so now they finally made it happen, it's gone. I guess this is why they pivoted to immigration as there wedge issue but unlike abortion the negative effects are now plainly seen.

    parent root
    103 points marion85

    Uh-huh.

But hatred is now the party platorm.

Hurting who the party and your priest tells you is the enemy is what they vote for now, they are party of far right fanatics and cannot be reached by logic, or any amout of betrayal from those who lead them because WE are their enemies and there is nothing in their minds that worse than if we win, because they see us as LITERALLY evil now.

    parent root
    84 points Scrutinizer

And the real irony is, they're projecting their own evil.

I moved to my current location, a relatively small city in Arizona, in 2021. There was a band of hardcore Trump supporters, maybe 5 or 10 at most, who would gather at an intersection near my home on Saturday mornings waving signs and flags and waving at passing traffic.

Over the past year some Democrats have held rallies at the same intersection attended by anywhere from 20 to 100 times the amount of "protestors".

Anyway, I was walking up to one of the Dem rallies and walked past where the Trumpers were - they still stood there even when the Democrats showed up in numbers - and they were talking about how they'd love to see ICE show up and just start arresting people.

I drove past their little demonstrations every weekend for three years, and I never once thought "You know what needs to happen? Secret police need to show up, beat the shit out of these assholes, and just take them away to....wherever."

But I bet if you asked them they'd tell you that's exactly what I think. Because Projection has been so ingrained into them it's purely reflexive at this point.

Yeah those SNAP benefits will get them through one week with the cuts and with the new Final Ruling from the Feds they've lowered the age of children in which you are considered an Able Bodies Adult Without Dependents. So a child at home/high school who is 14 or higher doesn't count as a dependent for the purposes of having to work for your benefits in some type of workfare program. Most people work some and get benefits so this won't apply to them but basically if you are unemployed now you have to work up to 80 hours a month for some program or another (unpaid) to keep your benefits.

Doubling? Under the plan he's floating it will quintuple, at least.

He wants to get rid of the ACA exchange and replace it with cash payments to consumers to buy their own plans.

Problem is the amount he's proposing of $2000 will only pay for a couple of months of coverage.....unless, of course, they start selling "junk plans" with super-low premiums and super-high deductibles, which is certainly on their agenda (they tried to do it right after the ACA passed but were eventually shot down).

    parent root
    14 points LadyOfVoices

My health insurance for me and my little son just went from $700 to $1500, and shittier coverage. That $2000? It won’t even cover 2 months, not even speaking of the fact that nobody will even get that $2000.

The plant closure likely did more harm than take away 1/3 of the jobs.

There were vendors that did business with the company that will cut staff if the vendor survives the lost of business.

Local businesses lost revenue that the terminated employees spent regularly. They in turn will likely cut staff.

Even public utilities will be effected as they lose the revenue that the company paid for its water and power.

There are many ghost town across the country that have disappeared because a single large employer closed the plant.

I love seeing MAGAs suffer as much as the next bloke, but the article does not seem to show that Trump is responsible here:

Tyson was closing the Lexington plant due to cattle supplies hitting a 75-year low in 2025. [...] Cattle ranchers have seen dwindling herds due to drought reducing the supply of land capable of feeding cattle.

Contrary to a lot of MAGAs, I do not belief that Democrats have machines that control the weather or that Trump was empowered by God to repel hurricanes.

Considering the issue seems to be a drought, Trump may not be the guilty party here (which obviously is very unusual, I want to point that out)🙂

I posted the same thing on a dupe post earlier today. I expect to get downvoted like crazy but it’s obvious that hardly anyone actually read the story. The headline does not match what actually happened in this plant closing - or at least in no way showed how Trump policies led to drought related corporate down sizing. It really feels like we are being manipulated here.

I don't believe it's manipulation (but I just may be very naive). People are just starved for good news. So they want to have their daily dose of schadenfreude, even if getting it requires to take a few "creative liberties" with factual accuracy.

As I said, I may be very naive. Or maybe, I've turned very cynical, and I no longer expect that much from people 😅

When I vote I put a lot of time and thought into thinking about the consequences of my vote. These people should try doing that. In the meantime, though, they can fuck all the way off. Have the day you voted for.

How ironic that the plant is supposed to close down on the 1st anniversary of Trump's second term.

I live in Nebraska. These people will still vote the same way, even after their town collapses.

    parent
  • 4 points Scrutinizer

No worries. Sometime next year Trump will simply print more money and drop a few thousand dollars on each individual's head to allow them to plod forward for another month or two, and everyone will say "YAY!" and rush off to vote Republican in the midterms.

I cared when I voted against this shit last November.

You voted to not care about your very own interests, Red Nebraska Voters...so...why should I care now when you didn't: particularly when you could have done something about it?

Well, it's very easy to solve; they will all have to go vegetarian now that the meat packing plant is closed. I know it's not the "plant based meat" they want but it's the plant they voted for.
