Hi, Im a student and new to Germany.I live in a 20m² studio and just received a €2,300 utility bill for 6 months for 2024. Until now I was paying around €90/month for utilities. This feels extremely high for such a small apartment.  the warm water use is high 108.8 m3 and cold is 121 m3

Has anyone dealt with something similar? What should I check or do first?

  • There should be a protocol with the water meter readings when you moved in and out. Check if these numbers match the numbers stated on the bill.

  • What about heating? Warm water is only part of the utilities. Usually, heating is part of it, too. 2300 is still high, but depending on how you heat, not impossible even for such a small space. For example, if you kept your heater on 5 the whole time and a window partially open. I know someone who did exactly that.

  • Do you keep your heater on at all times?
