Apparently they've been called Snoo from the beginning of Reddit. As in "what's new?" like Reddit is from 'read it'.
Its snoo, as in snew (s’new) short for “whats new”, it was the original idea for reddits name, but the domain name was already taken, so they did reddit (which basically means Read it).
