Fuck sake I literally just bought this after seeing this post, I’m going to trip soon in my new house and want to make it more homely. So thank you and goodnight
If anyone is on a budget and wants similar vibes there’s some decent lights from random Chinese brands anywhere from $20-$50. There’s also galaxy projectors that comes with a dozen or so space themed slides that you project on the ceiling(this is my next buy). But just got my girlfriend one of these northern lights projectors, pretty sick for $35-$40 and it has a built in sound machine/bluetooth speaker. Speaker isn’t amazing quality, but not horrid either, def worth the price tag for the light features alone, super trippy, my cat loves it too!
When shopping for Chinese products, skip the brand and focus on the product description. In this case use the term "ripple LED RGB" but you can also search for "LED RGB projector" and get all kinds of cool ones that are dirt cheap. I have dozens of these things and I rarely spend more than five or ten bucks.
I'd also point out that they get better all the time. I do my own decorative lighting design and I can hardly keep up with the stuff the cheap sellers come up with. What really helps is that the quality and power of the LEDs keeps getting better and better so its just looks more intense as time goes by largely because it's higher and higher powered but not necessarily high priced. I make my own projector projects but also buy them pre-made because the ones you can get cheap are bad ass as far as I'm concerned as a long time LSD user and proponent. If you like LSD, you should have twenty of these things. You need one in your car!
LSD+LED=BLISS
Back in the 60s, the hippies would have flashlight parties when they were tripping --still going on I suppose. Life Magazine had articles about flashlight LSD parties way back then. So called "kinetic art" or "liquid light shows" were all the rage and they had lasers, projectors whatever they could find that looked trippy. Same thing, different era. We're blessed with these RGB LEDs. We live in the future they could only dream about back then. Laser shows. . . shit, we've got all the color in the world and as trippy as you like at a bargain price.
I have one too: Bought it as a move-in gift to myself for my new place. 100% changed everything for me. Not only is it rad for sparkle sessions, but it's a good lamp overall.
I just found another option on Amazon from that same company that's like a desktop/nightstand version that projects the same visual and it's usually 89.99 but they have it on sale for like 55.98 right now. I might scoop one up
Sorry, that was a typo. I corrected it. It's FastLED. It's a software library you use with an Arduino. They're cheap and easy to use. The hardest part is getting the wiring right, but it's not that hard. The newer hardware is more dumbed down and simplified so its easy to do with a YouTube tutorial.
It used to be more technical to hook up LED animations and the hardware was less standardized and it still can be a big challenge to figure it out if you're not familiar but if you just stick to the basics, it's not so hard. I'd be lying if I tried to pretend Arduino programming can't get deep fast because you can do whatever your skills allow and that's both a blessing and a curse. Being able to do "anything" often entails not being able to get anything to work. That's where FastLED comes in.
FastLED is what is known as a software library. Like the name suggests, it's a bunch of pre-written code you can just run a copy of and enable all kinds of shit that would take you serious effort to do on your own. Look up "DemoReel100.ino examples" on YouTube to see what it can do. That's the name of their most popular demo file. It's an open source project. There are many different animation effects they create though and DemoReel100 itself contains more than just one animation. It's a whole collection of different effects. There's tons of them and you can manipulate them any way you like or just run them as they are default. You can also melt them into each other the way a DJ mixes tracks. The sky is the limit but just running the demos is wild.
The reason people sometimes feel Arduino is too difficult is because it's both hardware and software and a lot of people feel it's hard to be good at both but honestly you don't have to be very good at programming to use Arduino, just confident and have basic skills with using a computer. But when faced with questions about hardware, those same people who feel confident about the software side of things can feel helpless about hardware basics that involve electronics skills.
The good news here is that the key thing to understand about hardware is that for LED animated lights, it's all 5V and so is the Arduino and almost all USB peripherals. That's the key. You don't need to worry about the current, just try to have enough. Too much is not a problem. Just make sure your power supply is 5V and if possible like 10A or more. That's just for a single strip but when you see what it does, it's definitely worth it. That shit rocks. It's like professional lighting you see at concerts, clubs, downtown venues. You can power up as much as you like or you can keep it light and small. You want to make it portable? No problem USB is 5V. You can hook it to a powerbank.
If you get a 5 meter 2812 addressable 300 LED RGB strip, an Arduino, and a 5V 10A Power supply you're basically in business even with no soldering involved.
It goes on sell often and you can find it on Amazon too. I bought one of these couple weeks ago and it's awesome. I have a couple other of older Govee lamps and they fun to trip out with.
Is this a picture or is it a gif? ;p Ive got some pretty dope lights at home but this effect is still lacking, I love the wavey pattern! Can you adjust it and such? Play with the colours,, or .. stuff like that? Oh,,, And whats it called? :D -- edit,, nvm,, i said already :) --
Heres a vid of my own holy grail,, I feel your excitement so much,, i wanna promote this one to every person out there that could potentially benefit from a trippy light lol xD
Looks like fun. My buddy has a small lamp that projects patterns that was like $6 on Temu. Not saying shop there but you can get desktop lamps like this one for under $40.
If you want to trip on a pattern that repeats itself every 20 seconds then go ahead and buy a spinning projector for 6 $. If you want nice patterns you gotta spend a bit more
I got a $80aud Kmart job. I can adjust the colours and speed and such on an app. I set it up before the trip cause the second I’m up, I stop being able to use the phone which is nice.
Fuck sake I literally just bought this after seeing this post, I’m going to trip soon in my new house and want to make it more homely. So thank you and goodnight
I promise you will not regret it!
Report back please
Same!
Trippy New Year about to go down.
Just bought it too lol
Bought one of these as a gift for my roommates. Will probably buy more
Yeah mate, it’s really good. Lights up my entire room with cosmic waves.
The aurora light is a smaller version and amazing too

Could you share some of the chinese brand lights?

Man, you have Trippy Cosmix Borealis
I have one too: Bought it as a move-in gift to myself for my new place. 100% changed everything for me. Not only is it rad for sparkle sessions, but it's a good lamp overall.
Shout out to Govee lighting. We own like 2-3 different devices.
Pretty expensive 🙃
It is. What, 190$ normally? I think I got it on sale for 135$. Still pretty cool for it, especially since it can be used as a normal light as well.
I just found another option on Amazon from that same company that's like a desktop/nightstand version that projects the same visual and it's usually 89.99 but they have it on sale for like 55.98 right now. I might scoop one up
A link please ?
here you go homie
Thanks a loooot and happy new year 🥳
It is. But literally changed the way I experience trips. Perfect mood lighting.
Try "ripple effect uplighter rgb led" instead. It's similar. . . but different. Prices for that search string start from just a few bucks on up.
And if you really like colorful lights and have a knack for electronics and simple programming, then try this instead. . .

I have the same one and I love it!
Which model is it?
Eurolite LED WF-40 Water Effect
Ran as DMX setup to get its full potential, absolutely brilliant light!
wow, i love yours. where’d you get it from?
That’s sick! I’ve got a bunch of hue lights that look neat but not like this
Dang wanted to get one if it got to me before NYE lol
I have one of those, its legit! Bit pricey on the rupees but a few side quests and you can unlock one of your own...
Looks like fun. My buddy has a small lamp that projects patterns that was like $6 on Temu. Not saying shop there but you can get desktop lamps like this one for under $40.

These are vastly different quality products, there’s a reason govee products are expensive and it’s not because they’re rip-offs.
If you want to trip on a pattern that repeats itself every 20 seconds then go ahead and buy a spinning projector for 6 $. If you want nice patterns you gotta spend a bit more
Or program the LEDs yourself.

Great light
Saving this for later

I got a $80aud Kmart job. I can adjust the colours and speed and such on an app. I set it up before the trip cause the second I’m up, I stop being able to use the phone which is nice.
I use this and link their other LED products 1000% worth it for trips
Mine arrived today, can't wait to set it up later
Sick. I got the govee ceiling fixture. People who come visit me love it when getting stoned or tripping balls :)
