Mira and Mai have similar vibes who come from wealthy families they have issues with. Although on Mai’s part it’s mostly daddy issues.
Ty Lee and Zoey are both the bubbly and simp types. Ty Lee always wanted to stand out as her own person while Zoey tried to avoid sticking out. Both ended up finding a place where they were comfortable being themselves.
Rumi and Azula are both the leaders. Both been training from a young age to fulfill a role. Both have mommy issues. both feeling unloved (not loved fully) by their mother/mother-figure. Both feeling unworthy of friends or a support group (Azula because she believes she’s a monster… actually Rumi, too with the whole demon thing). Except Azula doesn’t know how to get anything without power/fear. Rumi however managed to build a friend group.
I could go on about Azula, but this ain’t the right sub lol. I didn’t realise how much she and Rumi had in common. I guess I have a type when it comes to favorite characters.

Yea but it's more to do with team tropes than avatar directly. The five-man-band trope is good to look up to explain it more, but 3 of those are the leader, the lancer (a more serious and often more ruthless foil of the leader) and the heart (the happy one with the often innocent outlook etc.).
It's used again and again because it works so well. Think of your favourite teams, most of the time they'll slide into the roles of, Leader, Lancer, Brain, Brawn and Heart. I think the ladies from Avatar are getting conflated with Huntrix cos of us... similar features...
So, basically, Rumi is the redemption of Azula's character type that proves Azula herself failed. OTOH, EJAE is nothing like Azula, despite her similarities to Rumi. Kinda like a line that could be drawn: EJAE - Rumi - Azula. :D
