The Developers of Brown Dust II released a livestream explaining plans for the game's future. December had their highest player count since the game's release, with lewd skins and characters breathing new life into the game. In this livestream, the developers said they would be "redesigning" numerous different skins, removing a lewd minigame, and changing many of the game's infamous lewd cut scenes. They were reluctant to give elaborate reasons as to why, but alluded to vendors criticizing the way they treated their female characters. The developers had previously stated that they'd prefer their game to die than be killed by vendors, but I guess they've since changed their opinions.
The fucking visa/mastercard cabal is at it again
They feared being sued
Didn't that game have an 18+ rating? Guess that meant nothing.
>Didn't that game have an 18+ rating?
It's 16+ on Google Play and 18+ on App Store but they probably don't want Adult tag for Steam
Checked my Google Play and it's PEGI 18.
It's regional stuff cuz 16+ in Germany
The devs is greedy and lazy. They could just make uncensored version of the game but they decide to censor their game. Snowbreak, Horizon Walker, a gooner gacha game and also on steam do this to avoid censorship.
Not how that happened. Snowbreak was forced to censor everywhere, not just because of Steam, but because they're China. However, they have a feature where if you just make a .txt file in the directory with a line like localization = 1 or something, it uncensors everything.
They're not the first game to do something like this either, GFL had clothes break animations in their first game and they were forced to censor those (long before they even considered going to Steam) but if you used a specific combination of resources in the production system it would uncensor everything.
There's ways around this, if Brown Dust could just do what everyone else does.
"We work with some vendors who say that the we are not treating female characters appropriately. These are some of the complaints we are getting which is why we're trying to balance out between the characters and suggestive content".
And it's not only loli, school uniforms and young looking characters, it's the whole orientation, freedom and fun that are affected. For exemple the spaking mini game will be removed for the reason "objectification of women".
Credit Cards, Collective Shout and UN Women have won once again.
Once again it's this rather...bizzare thing that keeps appearing about you know who (Visa Mastercard) having an issue with depictions of...bondage.
Yes characters being tied up.
I've seen this quite a bit now I'm convinced beyond being woke, whoever makes these changes is an unironic prude.
And they refuse to admit the real reason because they will suddenly get upset and get sued to oblivion
It's called feminism, and it's everywhere today. Wokeism is just its little sibling.
William Moulton Marston is spinning in his grave.
It's very likely Steam's approval team, the vendor they likely are talking about is definitely them since BD2 is trying to release their game on Steam. BD2 is on Google Play and Apple store no problem.
Yeah, you cant even have milf characters in a highschool setting/uniform, they wont take a chance. There was even a hentai game that got denied and while both characters were 22+, one looked too young i guess. Thats why the hentai games you see on steam are always exagerated busty women lol. Rip petite and/or small breast lovers i guess
Meanwhile they complain about men why not having children or getting married.
Fun fact: that minigame was actually designed by a woman: https://www.youtube.com/live/fE8DJuG-Ao8?t=5257s
God I’m sick and tired of censorship in general. Let’s see how much player backlash and the downfall the game will suffer caused by the censorship to make the devs reconsider their decision.
Classic bait and switch.
bait and switch tactic
Dead game. The only reason people are even remotely interested in this game is because of the lewds.
I think its ironic i just downloaded the game yesterday and now im uninstalling it good bye another good fan service gacha game you were good while it lasted till you bowed down to the vendors crap
This is definitely because of Steam.
They should rethink their policies before they start being known as "the store that gets game developers to censor their games to appeal to weird Western prudes instead of customers".
Update provided by devs here https://www.browndust2.com/en-us/news/view?id=10070 [NSFW site]
In addition, they are already toning down future content, cancelling the already completed and planned release of a new character interaction for an adult character:
I don't understand, though, why not just name who is asking for these changes? On the stream, they just said "vendors." It would at least take some heat off the devs and make it known to customers who exactly is imposing these requirements.
The devs are obviously very worried at response since they just sent everyone over 100 pulls for free, which is a lot.
When a gacha game (not counting idle games that gives tons of pulls and need tons of dupes) with quality behind it gives 100 pulls for free, they know they are doing something very unpopular. I wonder if they will give like 300 pulls total to make people accept it, but even 100 is a lot. I guess thats their tactic, give people so many pulls so people shut up. Will it work?
190 pulls is still not nearly enough for the shit they are doing to several SSR skins. They can be sued for bait and switch removing gacha content people have already paid for, and they know it.
Also how much is 18000 diamonds in BD2? How many pulls is that?
Also is it worth rerolling and trying the game now?
It's 200 per pull I think. As for starting now, my concern is how future content will be influenced by this censorship unfortunately. If it wasn't for this I definitely would have recommended the game.
I dont get why they cant do a easy censor bypass like Snowbreak. Why do a Chinese company have a bigger spine than a KR one?
I play Snowbreak and Horizon Walker. I heard BD2 is similar with fanservice but never gave it a try. On r gachagaming there is a huge thread and i read that in HW the heroes are adults, but it is less clear in BD2
So to make people accept it they are giving an insane 190 pulls for free. Thats insane for the genre, to be fair at least they are doing the tactical right thing if they must do this censorship.
If i start now do i get 190 pulls as well? Rerolling is easy or hard here?
I don't think so given they've already distributed the apology.
A standard 10-pull is 2000 diamonds or 10 tickets. So in total they're giving 190 pulls. Hard pity is set at 200 pulls, and you need 6 copies of a character to max out their skills.
No weapon banner? How generous are they with giving diamonds for free? It says 500 draws over 50 days on their store page, what is the catch?
There is a weapon banner, but no one gives a shit since you can craft your own items that are usually better than signature items
So unlike Genshin and gacha games with similar gacha as Genshin, the weapons in the gacha are not even BiS for most chars?
RIP in piece, skinner box. Hope somebody manages to back up the booty.
Devs officially gave a response:
"It is true that we received external warnings requesting changes to certain in-game content. However, how we responded was ultimately our decision, and we take full responsibility for the outcome.
We chose to comply because we were concerned that a service shutdown in one region could spread to other regions or platforms. The biggest issue, however, was that we made this decision without providing sufficient explanation or showing enough empathy."
This exemple (with Lord of the Fallen II too) makes me think that in fact the spreading of wokeness and censorship in the industry everywhere, was not forced in most cases, but came from devs and companies themselves, being infected by the "empathy" and "moral virtue" message.
Censorship will always be an issue. The Left will censor sexy women because it must punish the male gaze. The Right will censor sexy women because it's not a very Christian thing to have in a video game, and video games are apparently for kids only.
These people won't be happy until all video games are variations of Tetris. And even THEN they'll find something to bitch about.
Both sides hate men and want them to be wage slaves and cannon fodder, and walking wallets. While they ar the same time complain about men not marrying or forming families.
only one side keeps telling men they explicitly hate them though
While the other side does nothing to address the otherside other than telling men to "just man up"
"Those long blocks, where the individual squares are all in a line, are deliberately phallic in their design. How are female gamers supposed to enjoy a relaxing puzzle game when they're constantly being bombarded with suggestive imagery like that?"
Disappointing.
I don't think it's Steam this time. Now it's the company that made BD2, they're still dependent on Visa and MasterCard.
Steam rejected them days before they were supposed to launch on there, big campaign, adverts etc. all underway. If it's really because of the Steam rejection - they deserve EoS.
If it's because of payment processors, they need to be transparent about this because people are very interested in that, especially lawmakers in Japan who have been looking in this issue. This might be a South Korean game, but it's very popular in Japan.
I heard it's because BD2 company broke some rules earlier. Since, other gacha games that are similar were able to come to Steam with little to no problems.
Why do a SK company censor more than a Chinese one (Snowbreak) Snowbreak even lets you bypass the censorship easily with a very short fix thats a major company in fucking China. Sad when a Chinese company have more of a spine than a South Korean one.
If the linked video is longer than 5 minutes, don't forget to include a summary as per rule 4.

Imagine spending on this game, was so obvious that this is a bait n switch. Hope they get sued to oblivion and people stop buying into this shit. Never preorder or pay for anything on release, there are plenty of established titles you can pick from.
I Kinda wish they do the same thing in Snowbreak, technically also a game who was hit with mass censor globally, there was a method to edit a .txt file to uncensored those Censorships
Why are Redditors so upset about the censorship? They were some of the biggest supporters of gacha game censorship in the first place. When people spoke out against censorship, you laughed at them. Now you’re angry because it’s finally happening to you. and honestly, this is exactly what you asked for.
What are you talking about? At what point did we ask for censorship? This sub is strongly anti-censorship. The few times when I see someone say "Oh, but this censorship is okay", they get plenty of people arguing against them claiming that all censorship is bad
Bait, meet switch.
Bro how do you seriously name your game Brown Dust? Most people in the West will have the a shart come to mind when hearing that rofl. Almost as bad as naming it Crop Dust.
