Hello everyone! As a reminder this is a satire subreddit for the dumb/silly things children do. The subreddit name is not literal. Although posts can have kids doing actual "stupid" things. It is not a requirement. Yes, blaming the parent is valid. However, this does not mean crossing the line into actually insulting the parent is ok (assuming they are the OP) (Rule #1).
This is also not a hate sub for children. If you don't like kids, that's fine. Just don't spread vitriol.
Maybe at first but I think that the parents were mostly very supportive of the cops during that whole interaction, especially after getting the full story.
I agree. I imagine that your brain takes a minute to process the facts when police officers are informing you something that your child is accused of. Your first instinct is that there is a mistake, a child would not do this. Certainly not my child.
In this video, it looks like the parents understood a crime was committed.
My kids have done "stupid" things like push each other into the pool too roughly and eat too much until they got a stomach ache; this level of stupid would get them a damn factory reset and/or replacement.
I probably would have been so dissapointed in my kids life choiches. That i secretly would have asked the cop to take him or her to jail untill i am willing to pick em up.
Kids do stupid shit because they don't realise the consequences for either party involved. I remember writing and sending an email that was hardcore pornographichal in its nature to my teacher as a kid. I did it to show of to a friend, and the internet was kind of new back then so I guess it being an email made it seem less "real" to me. The reaction from my teacher was very real indeed though xD
I seriously never even considered that she would read it for some reason. Stupid kid brain.
One of the things I really try to get my son to understand, is to think about the sequence of events that might happen after they do something stupid. You needed this..... lol
Yup, thats what my dad did when I was a kid, and I think thats what I would do too. Although I am sure i would pick them up within the first 20 mins...
To be fair any parent worth their salt would. It's obviously wrong what she did but she's also clearly a child and she doesn't understand what she did.
Sure, as any parent would be, but he didn't start screaming at the kid or the cops, he listened, he explained, he was stern and he was compassionate, he even asked if he could ride with his kid to the station, even offering that they could cuff him if they needed it.
I don't know him outside of this original video, but everything screams that he is a great patent, and it sucks that his kid did what she did because I genuinely don't believe they're bad parents.
I agree! The handled it like I would’ve. Initially in sort of disbelief and wanting to defend his kid, once he was shown that his kid did it, he supported the officers in this very teachable moment.
It was a hard watch as a parent. You want them to learn the lesson and grasp the severity but that’s still your baby and seeing them cuffed and hauled, no matter how upset with them you may be, cannot be easy. Dad asking to go with, “you can even cuff me” was so impactful - he was clearly so upset with his daughter but still trying to be there for her. Definitely a rough line to toe.
It's obviously wrong what she did but she's also clearly a child and she doesn't understand what she did.
I watched that full bodycam video a while ago and I was about to leave a comment saying how satisfying it was that she got arrested. But now I'm thinking this through, and your comment hits the nail on the head... 🤔 I'm 35 and I remember many many years ago when my mom & aunts used to travel a lot to see family in SC and GA. Me and my cousin (a year older than me), used to have fun sitting in the backseat of the car, as we're riding down the highway, mouthing "HELP!" to cars as we drove by. We thought it was hilarious. 😭 As this memory is coming back to me, I feel a bit ashamed, lol. But we weren't teenagers yet, so we were probably the same age as this girl in this video - doing stupid kid things. The only difference is - cellphones weren't nearly as common as they are now, and our families didn't have any. And even if someone driving past saw us and thought we were really in danger, the odds that they'd have a phone to take pics and/or call the cops were slim to none.
This is crazy, lol. I change my vote from "that's what she gets" to... it really has to suck being a kid growing up in this day and age. 🥴
She was probably confused and trying to make sense of it. I mean they were just having a normal day before a full patrol showed up about a kidnapping. They did great as parents.
I remember the one time I called 911 as a joke, it was the 90’s and we happened to be downtown in front the Supreme Court in our city because it’s really close to the art museum we were going to when I saw an actual phone booth and took advantage of my mom being distracted for a minute to call the only number I knew which was 911. Well of course a lot of cops tend to hang out around that area so they found me right away and basically did the whole we can arrest you right now for this which scared the absolute shit out of me from ever doing that again. Luckily I was only 4 but I remember it to this day
But honestly what they should have done is say don't say anything without a lawyer.
Those police could have recognized she was a minor and it was a bad mistake and be realistic about how to deal with the situation by educating the kid, or they could have charged her with a felony crime and thrown the book at her; criminal record, difficulty getting college, job, international travel etc.
Honestly, I don't know what I would do if it were me. I think at the point where they are reading rights I would request a lawyer on behalf of my child.
It's not a harmless prank and she's gonna have to learn it the hard way but I feel bad for her because I'm absolutely sure at no fucking point was she aware of the lengths the consequences were gonna be taken to
I think the difference is that while falsely calling 911 is a misdemeanor, she took it to felony levels with the guns/kidnapping ruse. It’s not right to waste the resources but her story added several layers to the severity.
One of my sisters used to call 999 (UK emergency services) and chat to the operators when she was young, like maybe 5 or so. They never sent anyone out, but you could tell they were annoyed but understanding that she was just a young kid who wanted to use a phone and liked talking to people. She never once claimed any crime was occurring, she just liked talking on the phone like grown ups do
Stuff like that is reasonable, and something a lot of kids do. Fabricating a story and making false claims about serious crimes is a whole different thing
That’s actually really cute. Obviously, shouldn’t be happening, but cute. This girl went to insane levels. I wonder how old she is? I’m guessing 10 or 11.
Edit: According to an article further down the thread, she was 11.
Stop giving your dumb kids access to the internet. I shouldn't have to give my personal identification to a private corporation because you can't monitor your child. Thankfully I don't live in Australia. You people are insane.
It's badly implemented. It should be done through myGov (that we all have access to) that provides an age verification token to the social media company but is otherwise not recorded / linked.
Pretty sad they haven't done it properly.
At the same time, I'm here typing on a social media platform from Australia and no one has asked for any age verification from me on here or YouTube.
It probably helps that my accounts (except Reddit though it should be close) are much older than 16.
It doesn’t need to be implemented period. Preventing your kid from getting on social media is incredibly simple if you do parenting. It’s not like kids can afford their own internet or devices. They’re kids. You own their internet and devices.
Yeah I could see a small prank but she called in a whole kidnapping with multiple calls and texts, then told the officer to go fuck himself when they told her they knew it wasn't real. (This can be seen in the full video).
On the extended video the cops called her back to let her know they were onto her. She just kept hanging up on them, then told a cop to go fuck himself... and thought deleting the texts would hlep...
Yup, this wasn’t just a kid being kind of stupid. This shit was malicious. Really glad she didn’t get any slack from anyone there. Major respect to the dad too who kept drilling it into her how fucking stupid and spoiled she was instead of trying to comfort her. The kid really didn’t deserve to be comforted in that moment.
yeah, do people not understand what a plea bargain is?
They charge someone with the felony to intimidate them into pleading to the misdemeanor. Even if the prosecutors know it was just a misdemeanor, they'll invent a felony charge as leverage.
And it works. over 90% of cases never go to trial because of plea bargains and confessions.
Look we all have done stupid shit when we were kids, heck I have even called the emergency helpline by mistake when I was a kid. But making up a kidnapping story and deleting all that shit is just a spoiled bratty move and hope she gets some serious punishment. Or else kids like these will never learn.
No shit . Cause if she didn't get caught what washer next "joke" going to be? Telling the cops someone she knows harmed her in some way? She's willing to do this,I could see that being the "logical" next step if she didn't get in as much trouble as she did.
"Jokes" like this are only funny to the people that do them. But the thing is it's not even funny...it's just stupid
Once as a toddler my mother left her phone out and went to the bathroom. I wanted to do something on it, but it was locked so I could only try and unlock it or make an emergency call. I apparently ended up calling and hanging up on 911 several times until my mom came out and found me looking very guilty and after doing some looking discovered what I'd done. Was able to call them and verify that everything was okay. Guess who never got near that again. Stupid kid who couldn't even think well, and no resources bad been moved (to my knowledge. But fabricating a story like this is insane and needs to be dealt with. Like the officers said
In high-school i had a guy in my chemistry class grab my phone out of my hand and hit the the emergency call number. Right as he did that the teacher walked up and took my phone before the call could be hung up. I kept trying to her i saw he pushed the emergency number but she just treated it like an excuse to get my phone back. It sat in the drawer in her desk with the police on the line. They did show up to the school, went to the office, got my classroom number, and walked into my class. I didn't get in trouble though. I explained what happened and they went on their way. That teacher quit taking phones after that though.
Did something similar as a kid at a payhone. Didn't have money so we couldn't call any number. Until we tried emergency services and someone obviously picked up. We hung up and ran, because we where stupid kids. No idea what happened after. I'm assuming they just sent a car to check it out since we were like 5 minutes from the police station.
So as a kid I assumed I would have to hit 7911 to call 911. So I called 911 thinking it wouldn’t work. They answered and I hung up.
They immediately called back and I ran and hid (this was the 90’s so I didn’t know it was them but I assumed). My dad then answers and is confused as fuck because he didn’t make a call and he didn’t know I did till I confessed.
At my work you have to dial 9 to get out and then if you’re calling long distance a 1. One of the doctors accidentally called 911 and then hung up after realizing what they’d done. So the 911 operator called back. Except all calls from the unit to the outside show our main number so when they called back it went to the front desk. I was the charge nurse so now I have to deal with it and try and figure out who made the call and if it was on purpose or not. Obviously we figured it out but it was very confusing for a while
I was trying to find the phone number on an office phone and couldn’t remember what the code was to get it, turned out it was 113 but I tried 117 then 119. As it happens, that also connects you to 911, and instead of a robot voice saying the phone number it was “911 what is your emergency?”
Wasn’t a huge deal, I explained the mistake, but they still sent someone out and I had to show them around the work area to show that it wasn’t a “forced to say nothing is wrong at gunpoint” type of situation.
Yeah when they start lying profusely and covering their tracks it's a sign they know they're in big trouble and have a fair idea it was wrong in the first place.
She was arrested. Dad was extremely upset about it. I think he asked if he could be arrested as well, but it's been a long time since I've seen the full vid.
Edit, thanks to comments below: Dad just asked to ride along and offered to wear cuffs.
He didn't ask to be arrested; he asked to ride along with her to the police station in the back of the car, and said he'd be willing to be cuffed if they'd let him ride with her. So no actual charges. But AFAIK it's against policy to have 2 people together in the backseat while under arrest so they didn't allow it.
Nah not at all. This girl really needed a reality check. With this, I doubt she'll try to recreate shitty YouTube challenges.
Anyway they say as much when they make the arrest. They will take her there do prints and mugshots and then call the parents for pick her up. Really not too bad considering the amount of danger she created.
When I was a kid, I called 911 and immediately hung up the moment I started the call. Like before the ringing even started.
They immediately called back and said they were sending an ambulance but I caught them on the answering machine and literally just said “NO ITS FINE SORRY IM 12 AND DUMB IM SO SORRY” and the person on the line had a giggle and said to not do it again.
"Calls 911 as a prank" it was a lot worse than that, she falsely reported a kidnapping, that triggered a COUNTY-WIDE response with SEVERAL AGENCIES that went on for HOURS.
In every state of the US you can be charged as a minor. I dont think there is a state wirh a cut off. The laws/punishments do change for minors though, and anything before you are an adult gets expunged. Parents and guardians can also be held liable for their kids actions.
If she just called 911 on some "my parents wont take me to mcdonalds" bs like alot of dumb kids do she wouldnt. But its a different story when you make up an elaborate armed kidnapping story and get basically every cop in the county notified and/or mobilized thinking theres some serious shit going on that needs to be stopped ASAP, taking their attention away from other crimes and people who may need help and like the cop said putting the cops themselves in danger since theyre gonna obviously start speeding like hell to catch the "kidnapper".
But also for other crimes not involving contacting 911 for stupid reasons, if kids couldnt be criminally liable we wouldnt have juvenile detention centers. Theres no country-wide minimum age for juvie in the USA though some states do have minimum ages, but some of those still go as low as 6 years old. There are little kids who have killed people after all (usually other little kids theyre babysitting or an abusive parent or something), and surprisingly often its purpose
They probably wouldn't have charged her but when you hear all she did, yeah she needed those charges.
In the full video it states she called and text multiple times about the kidnapping. Then when officers told her they know it's a prank, she told them to go fuck themselves and started deleting the texts. That's all before they showed to the house.
So yeah, she knew the severity of this and deserved the misdemeanor and probation she ultimately received.
You don’t just go straight to juvie tho. You get booked then released back to your parents. Then after the trial and sentencing months later, you might do some time, but it’s rare for a 1st time offense.
Not immediately. She was taken in, photographed, printed and booked. They probably didnt view her as any type of flight risk. Once the cops have what they need she and her parents are given a court date.
John Oliver has a whole episode about kids in America going to prison without even getting fair trials in some states. That part doesn't surprise me at all.
Bullshit, her life isn’t ruined because she slept a night in juvie. However, if she would have gotten away with this without consequences, she might have ruined or ended someone else’s life with her next “prank”.
Nah the whole privatized prison system tries to hold onto them for life. A felony isnt just a night in juvie. Harder to get a job and any crime you commit later on is gonna be punished more harshly. Shes like 10, she has school and shit. Cops getting involved with kids for anything less than like murder is gross.
How would this ruin her life? Do you think they'll put her on a can't-call-911 list? I could see that causing issues if she ever needed help. Do you think her juvenile record will not be sealed when she turns 18? Even if the state doesn't automatically hide her records at 18, do you think she couldn't pay to seal her own records similar to someone getting off specific types of probation? If this is her first encounter with law enforcement, do you think they'll give her the strictest punishment and not let her records be sealed? I'm trying so hard to see how this could have ruined her life.
Governments banning things "for the kids" has always proved that it is exactly for the kids and not other malicious reasons. This "prank" is crazy wrong and she deserves her punishment but you can't preach that a government censoring social media has anything to do with this lol
because people on social media do similar pranks which gives the kid an idea, "Oh! someone I saw did it and was ok, so I can do it and be ok" when in reality it's not gonna be ok, and is often illegal.
I remember the early days of the internet a little before social media became a thing, and there were people who really believed that they could do and say whatever they wanted online generally or to anyone because "it wasn't real", ie: they treated it like a computer game because they were on a computer, and everyone on it was an NPC.
When people started getting in trouble for similar pranks and the like, the defence was literally "but it wasn't real!" or "but it was on the internet!" like that completely absolved them of all responsibility and they seemed to genuinely not understand the trouble they were in.
Not only is the officer correct that one of the officers could risk crashing and going to the hospital or die in vain for a prank, but other bad guys could actually risk getting away in the short momment the whole department is in a hurry to look for someone thats doing this for shits and giggles.
I’ve never physically disciplined my kids, but this would make my palms start itching really bad all of a sudden. Downvote it you wish, but I think she deserved the overnight juvie stay. I was raised up really strict (gen X) and this gives me all kinds of rage.
If what Ava said is true about getting the idea from a Youtube video challenge, then this is another great example of banning children from these platforms.
If you watch the full video you see the parents telling her that she, in fact, is in trouble. They are parenting that kid pretty well.
This clip was just a part of the events and at that monent the mom just wanted that kid to open her mouth.
Yeah, this happened a few years ago. She slept the night in juvie and I believe her parents had to pay a fine. There’s not a lot of clear info because she was and is a minor, but I assume if her parents have the means then they will be paying out a portion of their paychecks for a long while.
For pretending her friend had been kidnapped. With a van . She had a whole story , when they called back she insulted them and hung back then erased everything .
I used to have nightmares that one of my kids would do something so stupid that I wouldn't be able to fix it/protect them. They're all adults now and i still worry about this.
I remember when I was young, I called 911 & hung up immediately thinking they won’t come… well they came, and my 6 year old self was washing dishes when they got there trying to prove I’m a good boy.
Well, her parents thought an 11 year old should have a phone unsupervised. They have to live with the consequences of their actions as well.
A lot of kids called 911 either by accident or just to see what it was like. I don't think a lot of people called in kidnappings and told officers to go fuck themselves.
Yall better parent your kids.
The parents were pretty good in handling this, to be fair. The dad was telling her that this is the punishment she must face, and will face if she’s stupid enough to do it again.
And the mother said that this punishment was the best thing for her.
Honestly, in my country, children and teenagers get away with SO MUCH crime because everyone is too afraid to upset them with real world consequences.
When I was little I pushed the big red button under the hotel front desk my grandmother worked at. That was the day I learned what a panic button was. Also pretty sure I dialed 911 and hung up at some point when I was little.
I did this as a kid too, one of my earliest memories. My cousin and I were on vacation and found an abandoned building with a payphone that was so old we thought there's no way it was still in service, it even had no dial tone. Needless to say no less than 5 minutes after we dialed 911 about 10 cops and multiple firetrucks and ambulances all gave us a stern talking to lol.
My husband was snoozing his alarm for work one morning mostly still asleep and accidentally called 911 from his phones lock screen. They showed up with multiple squad cars and did a full walk through with flashlights of our house at 4 in the morning. We had kids toys in the living room and they thought we had a break in just seeing them through the window in the dark💀 I was beyond pissed off at my husband, completely mortified, and the officers weren’t pleased either. I can’t imagine something like THIS happening. Jesus. I know that girl got grounded af 😅
I don't know how it is in the US but I'm pretty sure the parents would be getting a very hefty bill to pay here in Germany. I imagine it's the same or even heavier over there.
While staying at a friends lake house, on my way back from a swim i told another kid, on his way to the lake, a whopper of a lie (god knows why) that someone had fallen off a jetski and drowned and that they shouldnt go to the lake because police were everywhere amd looking for the ficticous body. Later the kid and his folks showed up and i got a very public chastising and sent to bed. I was so embarresed and it was really out of character. I absolutely didnt understand the gravity of what id done or why i had done it.

Wow, a rare case that the parents didn't try to defend their kid.
If you find the full video, the mother did try to excuse her a few times
Maybe at first but I think that the parents were mostly very supportive of the cops during that whole interaction, especially after getting the full story.

Which it seems like they did. Their tune shifted (at least in this video) the moment they saw outgoing calls to 911.
I probably would have been so dissapointed in my kids life choiches. That i secretly would have asked the cop to take him or her to jail untill i am willing to pick em up.

Not really during the whole interaction. Early on you hear the father say, “Yeah, we’re here. Asking the sheriffs to go away in a second.”
I see. Thanks for the info.
To be fair any parent worth their salt would. It's obviously wrong what she did but she's also clearly a child and she doesn't understand what she did.
Well, she didn't, I'd imagine she does now.

Kids just do dumb shit. Their brains are incomplete.
Consequences are how we learn. She’ll never do this again.
I don't disagree, although what those consequences are we could probably argue about.
Well we hope anyway. There are plenty of kids and adults who do not learn from consequences.
Some people gotta touch the stove.
mad respect for how he reacted
I agree! The handled it like I would’ve. Initially in sort of disbelief and wanting to defend his kid, once he was shown that his kid did it, he supported the officers in this very teachable moment.

She kept saying "there was something wrong with that phone, it kept ringing non stop"
As she should.
I'm not saying that parents should shield their kids from all consequences - that would be stupid - but they should be on their side at all times.
That also means giving context for the cops, arguing for their kids and doing what they can to help... basically what a lawyer does.
I would expect parents to advocate for their kids in the same way a lawyer would
I remember the one time I called 911 as a joke, it was the 90’s and we happened to be downtown in front the Supreme Court in our city because it’s really close to the art museum we were going to when I saw an actual phone booth and took advantage of my mom being distracted for a minute to call the only number I knew which was 911. Cops are not always on your side.
Cops are never on your side.
Sometimes your interests may overlap. That's as good as it's going to get.
This is the best way I've seen it explained. Thank you.
There was a clip a few days ago
"Sir we are going to have to arrest...."
"Take her she's drunk, wheres my young son?"
The daughter was drunk driving.
Honestly, I don't know what I would do if it were me. I think at the point where they are reading rights I would request a lawyer on behalf of my child.
Stupid as fuck thing the kid did though.
Yeah all in all i thank everyone actually didn't fuck up there jobs for once but i hope they don't actually book the kid
I saw this video ages ago, iirc she tried throwing her brother under the bus saying he was the one behind the phone call, that he called 911 not her
That's like kid sibling shit 101 lol
the brother who was five btw
Seven. It says in the longer version.

EWU bodycam and Midwest Safety are great
That was satisfying 👏🏻
Thanks mate
It's not a harmless prank and she's gonna have to learn it the hard way but I feel bad for her because I'm absolutely sure at no fucking point was she aware of the lengths the consequences were gonna be taken to
She's aware now. Lesson learned. Hopefully
Yeah, I did stupid shit and ate the consequences at a similar age. Too bad for her
I did this once when I was like 5
called them and immediately hung up
they sent a cop but he didn't arrest anyone
I think the difference is that while falsely calling 911 is a misdemeanor, she took it to felony levels with the guns/kidnapping ruse. It’s not right to waste the resources but her story added several layers to the severity.
I did this too. Apparently I just asked them how their day was going
One of my sisters used to call 999 (UK emergency services) and chat to the operators when she was young, like maybe 5 or so.
I mean calling 911 as a kid is one thing but TEXTING 911 with a phony story of someone being kidnapped is wild 😆
On the extended video the cops called her back to let her know they were onto her. She just kept hanging up on them, then told a cop to go fuck himself... and thought deleting the texts would hlep...
Ah the innocence of youth, thinking that text messages deleted on your phone delete them forever from every device.
Everyone knows you need to print it out and flush it down the toilet.
Lots of misinfo in this thread. She plead guilty to two misdemeanors and got probation.
https://www.news-journalonline.com/story/news/crime/2023/10/02/florida-911-prankster-11-pleads-no-contest-to-two-misdemeanors-faces-probation/71031407007/
She was still CHARGED with a felony. She got a misdemeanor only because she plead guilty.
yeah, do people not understand what a plea bargain is?
They charge someone with the felony to intimidate them into pleading to the misdemeanor. Even if the prosecutors know it was just a misdemeanor, they'll invent a felony charge as leverage.
And it works. over 90% of cases never go to trial because of plea bargains and confessions.
I read somewhere that they executed her.
Yeah it’s something you find at a good Plea Market /s
I'll give that pun an E for effort.
Thank you , this post should be higher . So just misdemeanors and probation .
Parents also had to pay for the helicopter ride and some other costs. Over a grand worth of dues.
Not to mention that it can ruin her credibility, like a "cry wolf" sort of situation wherein she may have an actual issue and have no one believe her.
My dad’s work you had to hit 7 to dial out.
Obviously we figured it out but it was very confusing for a while
I accidentally called 911 as an adult lol.
"by mistake"
I called 911 when I was like 4 cuz I wanted to see a fire truck up close, but I owned up to it immediately.
Yeah when they start lying profusely and covering their tracks it's a sign they know they're in big trouble and have a fair idea it was wrong in the first place.
That is just adorable though. Did you see one?
No, just a stern talking-to. I didn’t get to see a fire truck up close until I was working on the ambulance. 😅
So how did this ended? She is stupid for sure.
Didnt ask to be arrested. Asked if he could go in the cop car with his daughter, and he'd be willing to be put in cuffs for the journey
She was arrested and sent to juvie
This is the only comment I’ve seen about Juvie, did she really go?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVEhvS1BBFo Here is the full video, they do send her to juvie.
Yeah temporarily while they do the booking and then release her to her parents, just like you'd do at jail during a misdemeanor arrest.
Isn’t this excessive? Obviously she made a dumb decision, but juvie? Maybe there were prior issues too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVEhvS1BBFo
Nah not at all. This girl really needed a reality check. With this, I doubt she'll try to recreate shitty YouTube challenges.
Anyway they say as much when they make the arrest. They will take her there do prints and mugshots and then call the parents for pick her up. Really not too bad considering the amount of danger she created.
This is the whole video, where it's revealed she went to juvie.
https://youtu.be/NVEhvS1BBFo?si=9lltH1dkqU_0XHMD
Here's a better video, and article, about it from when it happened in 2023
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/11-year-old-florida-girl-arrested-prank-texting-911-saying-friend-was-rcna96641
I got extremely lucky.
Stupid kid, but likeable.
"Calls 911 as a prank" it was a lot worse than that, she falsely reported a kidnapping, that triggered a COUNTY-WIDE response with SEVERAL AGENCIES that went on for HOURS.
Jesus what happened? The ending of the video doesnt explain the beginning
acording to the sherif in the complete video she was going to get her fingerprints taken for the record and then her parent's could come pick her up
She gets booked and goes to juvie. I thought they would just drive her around and take her back. But they charged her with a felony
How old was she? She looked like 10 years old to me.
11
Thanks! Didn't think one could even be criminally liable at that age.
Likely depends on the severity and the situation.
Oh wow.
In Germany, you're not criminally liable until you're 14, as I understand it.
In Canada it’s 12. America is weird to me. You see videos of little kids getting arrested at school for basically nothing it’s crazy.
America is cooked, nothing new here
They probably wouldn't have charged her but when you hear all she did, yeah she needed those charges.
I dunno, I watched the long video. Said she went to juvie.
Not immediately. She was taken in, photographed, printed and booked. They probably didnt view her as any type of flight risk. Once the cops have what they need she and her parents are given a court date.
Juvenile Detention would be from the sentencing.
John Oliver has a whole episode about kids in America going to prison without even getting fair trials in some states. That part doesn't surprise me at all.
She FA and FO.
Arrested and sent to juvie.
She shouldn’t have done that. But the adults should’ve put 2 and 2 together. Maybe mess with the kid but to actually arrest her? WTH
I mean, she made a stupid decision but shes like 10. Im not really a fan of anyone trying to ruin a kids life over a mistake.
And still some idiots still can't comprehend why Australia has banned under 16's from social media use.
The way that social media fucks with a developing mind's ability to discern reality from fantasy is crippling.
"It's just a prank"
Governments banning things "for the kids" has always proved that it is exactly for the kids and not other malicious reasons. This "prank" is crazy wrong and she deserves her punishment but you can't preach that a government censoring social media has anything to do with this lol
https://preview.redd.it/i81ymlmitp6g1.jpeg?width=760&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4092774c0d332f3e7e31dc9a838f587960886758
Holy cow did she get tongue lashing..
This is why kids should not be allowed on social media, unless you've explained it thoroughly the dos and don'ts then don't let them be on it,
What does her calling 911 have to do with social media?
She said she did it because it was a YouTube challenge
Someone else posted a link to the full video. She got the idea from a YouTube channel calling it a "challenge."
Ah
because people on social media do similar pranks which gives the kid an idea, "Oh! someone I saw did it and was ok, so I can do it and be ok" when in reality it's not gonna be ok, and is often illegal.
She gave the excuse that she got the idea from a youtube video
It teaches kids there are no consequences
Not only is the officer correct that one of the officers could risk crashing and going to the hospital or die in vain for a prank, but other bad guys could actually risk getting away in the short momment the whole department is in a hurry to look for someone thats doing this for shits and giggles.
Dad knew the severity of the situation.
I’ve never physically disciplined my kids, but this would make my palms start itching really bad all of a sudden. Downvote it you wish, but I think she deserved the overnight juvie stay. I was raised up really strict (gen X) and this gives me all kinds of rage.
Today I learned, you can text to 911.
My nephew is currently dealing with some stupid legal shit because another 13 year old kid did something stupid with his phone.
At this point I'm thinking kids shouldn't have anything more advanced than a Gameboy until they can drive.
Mom: You’re not in trouble.
Um…
Part 2?
If what Ava said is true about getting the idea from a Youtube video challenge, then this is another great example of banning children from these platforms.
But was there really 20 cops and a helicopter
I was a bad kid but at least I never make the police come for nothing they’d always arrest me lol
not a harmless prank at all, far from it.
[deleted]
She was just saying that to get the truth out.
If you watch the full video you see the parents telling her that she, in fact, is in trouble. They are parenting that kid pretty well. This clip was just a part of the events and at that monent the mom just wanted that kid to open her mouth.
Any follow up or anything!?
Yeah, this happened a few years ago. She slept the night in juvie and I believe her parents had to pay a fine. There’s not a lot of clear info because she was and is a minor, but I assume if her parents have the means then they will be paying out a portion of their paychecks for a long while.
That's a fair punishment.
From a kidnap to a kid nap
Pretty sure she learned her lesson... I hope so anyways
The full video explains that it wasn’t a“prank “she called 911 for pretending to have gotten kidnapped so it was pretty serious
You guys don't have fines for prank calling emergency number?
Welp she’s under 18 so that’ll get dropped when she’s older.
The worst thing I did was play soccer indoors and broke a clock. You're telling me other kids are faking a kidnapping?
Did they arrest her?? Someone please let me know!!
Yes they did. In the full video on YouTube she gets put in the car and taken to the station she claims she got the idea from a YouTube video
Thank fuck for that!
I appreciate you for sharing the information. Bless!
My son called 911 by accident when he was 5 years old. Cop came to the house and was a complete dick to my son. My son doesn't trust the police now
Well, kid…your humor wasn’t lost on me. When the cop said they brought the helicopter out I about lost it
The parents were pretty good in handling this, to be fair.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes
Love EWU
When I was little I pushed the big red button under the hotel front desk my grandmother worked at. That was the day I learned what a panic button was. Also pretty sure I dialed 911 and hung up at some point when I was little.
I did this as a kid too, one of my earliest memories. My cousin and I were on vacation and found an abandoned building with a payphone that was so old we thought there's no way it was still in service, it even had no dial tone. Needless to say no less than 5 minutes after we dialed 911 about 10 cops and multiple firetrucks and ambulances all gave us a stern talking to lol.
The cuffed her and brought her to juvi
Yup
I'm gonna re-upload this in vertical with grey bars along the top and bottom.
If kids don't learn at home they gonna learn outside.
My friend went to jail for something similar when we were teenagers
it is a sad world we live in
My husband was snoozing his alarm for work one morning mostly still asleep and accidentally called 911 from his phones lock screen.
I used to call the registry if my dad’s shop is open 😂
She's grounded till retirment.
Did she get to keep her phone? 🤨
They’d need to arrest me too, because I’d come unglued if that were my kid.
Her parents did a good job of keeping it together. The anger I felt toward that kid while watching this. My son is the same age as her.
Florida Child is making news now? What's the world coming to?
