Hello everyone! As a reminder this is a satire subreddit for the dumb/silly things children do. The subreddit name is not literal. Although posts can have kids doing actual "stupid" things. It is not a requirement. Yes, blaming the parent is valid. However, this does not mean crossing the line into actually insulting the parent is ok (assuming they are the OP) (Rule #1).
This is also not a hate sub for children. If you don't like kids, that's fine. Just don't spread vitriol.
My Dad says to my sister,
"How do you confuse a moron?"
Sis says "i dunno how?"
Dad says "52".
Sis couldn't figure it out for an entire day... she was in her 20's....
I ordered chocolate milk at a restaurant when I was probably 10. My step-dad said "it must've been from that brown cow we saw on the way."
My sister was flabbergasted and asked if that was true. He convinced her it was. He then took it a step further and convinced her that strawberry milk came from ultrarare pink cows that were only in Europe, which is why it's not as common.
She took this as truth at 18 years old.
The year prior she was looking at my knives (I had a collection as a kid) and she asked if probably my sharpest knife was sharp. Before I could respond, she swiped it across her knee to test this theory. 8 stitches.
I believe this is important lesson to learn in a safe environment like home.Ā
Because I've met a few who were never teased or disappointed until adulthood and then when it happens in adulthood in real world, or worse - at a workplace, the tantrums are extremely cringe and career damaging.Ā
It's far better to feel the pain in childhood and mature from it, than to learn it in adulthoodĀ
āSafe environment like homeā - yeah, and donāt forget to put it on the internet afterwards so all her peers can see her cry, thatāll teach her a lesson.
To be fair, likely she can laugh at it later and share it with friends like "yeah that was me haha". No one is gonna remember this video in a week, let alone years.
We cannot predict what affects who or how much. Trauma is unpredictable and insidious. When we are young and developing, trauma sticks because we commonly don't have the language, tools, or understanding to process and move on in a healthy way.
(EDIT: I don't mean to imply that this is undeniably traumatizing, but it has a likelihood that should be considered before hand waving away this sort of behavior.)
Maybe these bros do it right and make sure to assure her and talk through it with her after teasing, or may e she has the resilience and fortitude to not take it personally (highly doubtful.) Or maybe not and this girl could struggle with feeling heard or valued and not really understand why until the resulting dysfunction is so deeply embedded in her systems of thinking or even nervous system that it's practically subconcious.
Whist I mostly agree with you, i think we shouldn't throw the word trauma around like that. Not getting 20 dollars over a joke and having a 10 second vid of you getting overly emotional about it, isn't the same thing dealing with violence and/or sexual assault etc. that many of us dealt with at that age and which is truly traumatic.
Absolutely shouldn't be mocking kids online for laughs/likes though at all.
I mostly agree with you... but as the youngest girl with 4 older brothers who "only teased me"... they crushed my self belief, self agency, and confidence. I love them and have no issues with them at all .... but I am still deprogramming the damage they did, and I'm almost 40 years old!
I think, in another comment, I mentioned that context is everything. If she gets a one off tease now and then from her bros, whatever. If it's an everyday thing that doesn't get addressed, its psychological abuse. The fact that they are a little older puts them in a caregiver category so she likely trusts their guidance in life.... if their guidance is consistently telling her she's annoying, has no skills, is dumb, etc... that will deeply hurt, teasing or not.
I don't mean to throw the word trauma around to make the assumption that the girl is traumatized by this... But I do want to emphasize that is absolutrly a possibility.
If this is making her cry, then my guess would be - and this is not meant to be snide, but a genuine guess based on her reaction - she's not facing anything worse than this on a regular basis.
Also I very much agree with you that not all trauma comes from physical assault. As someone who went through sexual, violent and mental abuse growing up, there's a lot my abusers said and did to me that left scars - but there's no malice or manipulation in the joke they've pulled off here and no attack on her sense of self or self worth. She will be embarrassed for a moment, but I dont think it will do any damage whatsoever.
I think this is a healthy type of teasing that will help her develop a thicker skin to some of the more malicious jabs she will face as she gets older. I'm glad this is her threshold now; that warms my heart; but I also agree with the people saying that a healthy jesting at home is an important learning experience.
(P.S - I think how the boys follow this up is important; they don't need to apologise or anything but I think they should do something to build her back up maybe later in the day. That should be something you can count on your family for too; or so I've heard š )
I'm sorry but this just doesn't compute as a traumatic experience to me. I mean her initial reaction was laughter which was aligned with the situation. This could've very easily been a roll your eyes moment.
I think learning at a young age that people, even those you trust, can be dumbasses or even be mean and that we might have to deal with that or the fact we have negative emotions, in an appropriate way, isn't such an awful thing.
Kids are delicate but not quiet as fragile as we make out sometimes and I highly doubt this is going to put her in therapy when shes older.
Totally. There are a few life lessons my parents and professors tried to teach me but I didn't learn learn or understand until later on. One of them was pretty similar to what I witness in this trend/video I think
You saw that in office situation, but those people most likely have a trusting and loving family bond. Lots of my friends are great at jobs but have such horrible relationship with their siblings and parents because of these early on exposed shame and guilt. They are all empty people on the inside and find identities of themselves in work.
If that's because you were surrounded by people who exclusively loved, protected, and built you up, then you know what? I'm genuinely happy for you.
When all is said and done, we do these things to prepare our kids for the cruelty of the world; but obviously, the better solution would be to change the world to not need them. š¤·š¼āāļø
How about a more moderate middle of the road: some teasing is harmless, some teasing is damaging. It all depends on context.
This situation seems pretty typical of family teasing, and there are benefits to playfighting... but that doesn't mean this is THE way, or the best way, or even a good way to achieve emotional resilience in a small child.
Something is inherently wrong with this, you can't predict how things will affect kid.. being a dick in a family environment is so lame, especially when family is meant to be a safe place...
Nah fuck you I was teased relentlessly by my brother and cousins and I donāt feel like that prepared me for shit. Stop justifying being an asshole.
That said I think this was a joke, and needling at most but not teasing. Jerks trying to romanticize being an a hole as a rights of passage make me so angry.
Honestly it really depends my family was hard on each other like this making each other cry. Now im just about 30 and me and my siblings are probably closer than ever and we joke about the shit we did to each other when we were younger and it was way worse than this. Guess it just depends how you grow up lol.
It totally is. She went quickly from being part of a group that I'm sure she idolizes (my niece is a similar age and would be devastated if I did this to her).
I hope they at least gave the kid $20 afterwards. Otherwise, she now has evidence to take him to court for stealing her joke and can sue for damages, too!
This thread is so sensitive⦠Uncles fuck with you, always have. As long as they arenāt abusive that shit happens. This is why teachers have such a hard time nowadays, kids get babied so hard.
This sub isn't "Let's laugh at this child in particular who has less intelligence than its peers". This sub is "Let's laugh at kids being kids because kids are inherently dumb". Her reaction to getting teased is a kid's reaction, it is a funny dumb reaction. The teasing working on her is funny.
Hello everyone! As a reminder this is a satire subreddit for the dumb/silly things children do. The subreddit name is not literal. Although posts can have kids doing actual "stupid" things. It is not a requirement.
I wasnāt a fan of ribbing as a kid. I guess it was formative and made me toughen up, and hide my tears, but I also donāt really talk to those people anymore and I struggle to come up with fond memories of them because their casual meanness stands out more than anything else in my memory.
She may be over reacting, but some pranks can hurt more than the prankers intend.
It doesn't seem like they're trying to teach her a life lesson, but there can be two lessons learned here anyway; 1 even the people closest to you can hurt you and 2 sometimes people will be unfair.
These will definitely be some of the memories she looks back and laughs at in the future. Are people in these comments serious?? Everyone is genuinely mad that this is some kind of micro trauma that will leave this child severely emotionally scarred. I hope you all are joking or this is some form of gen z satire I dont understand. Pray people like these commenters dont have offspring.
They're the people who were coddled too much and taught to see this harmless little goof played on her as trauma. It's a harmless prank that will not form a lasting impression unless someone tells her to let it do that.
It blows my mind to see actual adults believe that children will be permanently and severely psychologically damaged from such trivial shenanigans. God forbid a child experience even the slightest difficulty or less than comfortable situation. From my experience, kids raised like that have a false picture of reality and quit/fail when facing adversity later on in life. Not to mention they seem to have an entitlement beyond average and exhibit the classic "only child" behavior.
Dude I know, I had shit like this pulled on me as a kid. I might have cried about it for a little while but then went back to playing and being a happy little kid. I only remember the ones that were really funny, they didn't scar me lol. My nieces parents are like this, they have to coddle and make excuses instead of letting them stew in a little kid cry for a minute or two. My one niece let's so much get to her that really should just roll right off, but the little one that I had more time in nurturing is resilient as fuck. She gets mad or sad about something and then is fine not even 5 minutes later. Kids need to be taught to be more resilient instead of telling them they should let this go to heart and never forget. It drives me nuts!
Once again Redditors taking everything wayyyy too seriously. This girl will be fine. Everything will be fine. The sun will still rise. This is one moment in her entire lifetime. Itās honestly pretty pathetic how many adults hold onto childhood trauma and find the need to project that onto random videos they see on the internet. Itās not that deep losers
I was on board with this until the final shot laughing at her crying. This didn't seem like a lesson learing joke. It honestly just feels mean spirited, especially the recording it part.
She was the one who delivered the joke properly, "I don't know Y" is a play on words, "I don't know the letter Y" wrecks everything. This is not Kids Are Fucking Stupid, this is Uncles are Mean

Reminds me of the time we had the whole family gathered on the couch, and my niece wanted to share a joke.
Niece: "How did the snake climb up the wall?"
Me: \snap**šš "He SCALED it!"
Niece: š¢
Ruined Christmas.
One time I had a dickhead friend at school. Guy walks up to my dad and goes.
"Hey Mr. [My dad], let's say Charlie has 50 chocolate bars and eats 47. What does Charlie have?"
"Diabetes."
"... h-how did you know?"
My Dad says to my sister, "How do you confuse a moron?" Sis says "i dunno how?" Dad says "52".

I don't get it? Can someone explain please?
Diabetes
found one.
The joke is that if you don't get it/are confused, you are the moron the joke was referencing.
It's a non-sense answer deliberately intended to confuse you.
Off topic but the guy on the left, reminds me of Ed Norton in primal fear.

I love reddit. ā¤ļø š
He reminds me of every substitute teacher ever
The kid from That 70s Show.
Topher Grace in 70s Show
Dude Ed Norton all the way.
Definitely looks like Ed for sure
I thought he was cardboard cutout at the start of the video.
Roy
He's got a very British aura to him
Dude on the left reminds me of discount Foreman from That '70s Show.
Pastor Dave.
That Uncle is either 14 or 40. I can't tell which. And that was a top-shelf Eric Foreman haircut.
As a brother, these are just the things we did to each other.
As an uncle, I would feel terrible.
Precisely, that's brotherly love at its finest.
He didnāt even get the joke right!
That made it even funnier
Itās the rule of 2s

I do agree it's shitty for her right now though

Not all trauma is violence and sexual assault.
This is an example of people she loves and trusts humiliating her at a formative age.
We know hiw damaging humiliation at a formative age can be.
If this is making her cry, then my guess would be - and this is not meant to be snide, but a genuine guess based on her reaction - she's not facing anything worse than this on a regular basis.

We also can not assume how the video ended up on the internet. For all we know the video may be 10 years old and she posted it herself.
Yes, that is also true.
She'll be aight
Totally. There are a few life lessons my parents and professors tried to teach me but I didn't learn learn or understand until later on. One of them was pretty similar to what I witness in this trend/video I think
yeah, my grandfather used to constantly break my trust as a kid and afterwards say 'see? don't trust anyone'.
guess how that worked out...

I can attest to this. My lifelong best friend is an only child and never got razzed until we were teens. She couldnāt take a joke until her 40s.
if only her family had made fun of her as a child and uploaded it for all her peers and millions of strangers to see..?
I have taught plenty of chill only children and plenty of siblings who could not take what theyād dish.
This is some black and white thinking.
How about a more moderate middle of the road: some teasing is harmless, some teasing is damaging. It all depends on context.

I like this. Wouldnāt have thought about it like that.
I mean, you can also grow up feeling secure and trusting with your family, and not throw tantrums because you're raised not to.
its not like raising a kid correctly requires mocking them and uploading it to the internet to "harden them" tf lmao
this feels kinda weird with how young she seems to be honestly
It isn't just how young, but you can see in the beginning that she is at that stage where she idolizes her uncles.
Video made me sad.
My father mocked and humiliated me without a crowd. I couldnāt imagine it being broadcasted. Iād probably be a fuckin criminal.
But also - those boys are obviously BOYS, probably uncle and brother. Itās not their job to raise her.
How many kids you got?
It feels weird that people are insistent that psychological injury disappears just because you age.... Sounds awfully like abuse apologism.
You might have been teased too much... there's a line
āTeasedā isnāt ābeing an assholeā.
Yeah, this, I think, is definitely teasing. Sounds like what bad DEAL above went through is not.
Comes back to the old adage that if I hit you with a spade we don't call it gardening.
Heads up, itās āriteā of passage

Bro stop fucking eachother, this is a public forum, get a room.
Wait, Reddit isnt some fuckin room forum?
Considering how mean they were to her, Iām not assuming home feels like a safe environment to her.
"how mean they were to her" i think we found one of the people who never faced even the gentlest of mocking in their childhood
I get your point that was too mean imo, she'll never trust her bro as she was
Uncles
Honestly it really depends my family was hard on each other like this making each other cry. Now im just about 30 and me and my siblings are probably closer than ever and we joke about the shit we did to each other when we were younger and it was way worse than this. Guess it just depends how you grow up lol.
Truth; humility needs to be taught
Aw that hurts to see her upset, even tho it's silly she was excited to be apart of the group and then she ends up being ridiculed
yeah its cute how excited she is, this video's kind of just sad honestly
It totally is. She went quickly from being part of a group that I'm sure she idolizes (my niece is a similar age and would be devastated if I did this to her).
A part
Yeah that first āokayā when they didnāt respond, you know that stung. The rest felt cruel
I hope they at least gave the kid $20 afterwards. Otherwise, she now has evidence to take him to court for stealing her joke and can sue for damages, too!
Doubt she has a copyright in the joke so unfortunately she's just going to lose a bunch of money in court fees.
ālol, look at my niece cryingā, time to post.
Kids cry over everything and anything and this is a very tame reason to cry. It's not like they abused her and then posted it
This thread is so sensitive⦠Uncles fuck with you, always have. As long as they arenāt abusive that shit happens. This is why teachers have such a hard time nowadays, kids get babied so hard.
Why is the kid stupid? She's just getting teased by her brothers(?)
Uncles she says it at the begining
She says "uncle". We don't know the relationship to the other guy, and it's quite likely a brother.
The worst part is, she thought she was getting a hug.
I wasnāt a fan of ribbing as a kid. I guess it was formative and made me toughen up, and hide my tears, but I also donāt really talk to those people anymore and I struggle to come up with fond memories of them because their casual meanness stands out more than anything else in my memory.
Yep. You grow up and realize people like this are f****** garbage and you don't want to be around them š¤£
Same here, this video just made me feel sad for her
Tucker Carlson was just laughing at the other guy for having an even goofier haircut than him.
The guy on the left is stuck in his Beatles phase.
She may be over reacting, but some pranks can hurt more than the prankers intend.
It doesn't seem like they're trying to teach her a life lesson, but there can be two lessons learned here anyway; 1 even the people closest to you can hurt you and 2 sometimes people will be unfair.
I pray she grows into a wise person.
Don't know if they're intending to teach a life lesson. Just looks like they were being dicks for fun.
I felt bad for her, she was just trying to have fun.
How hilarious, they made a little girl cry...
Her villain origin story begins now.
You better have took her for some ice cream later... š¤£
Eric foreman....is that you?!,!,
Unc looks like Edward Norton with eighties hair
That uncle was 19 and 40 at the same time
Why is this even on this sub?
They made her cry
It broke my heart.
What the F
No its "y"
Yeah this seems pretty rude- poor girl just wanted to have fun / feel included - Not really sure what this is supposed to accomplish.
Too young for social media
You all are so mean to that baby!
I don't know y..
Woooow. That's cruel as fuck hahaha
Dafuq, that's cruel. Shit uncle.
I really thought she was gonna clock the blonde dude in the nuts. I know I would've, guaranteed $20 right there.
Man I'm glad my uncle isn't an asshole
Non-native Speaker here: what?!
I have difficulties to understand what the brother said.
"I only know 25 letters of the Alphabet. I dont know why ('y')."
Ok fair enough. Then?
The brother funnily enough butchered the joke. He didnāt even say it right. What you said is the correct way to say it.
He says at the end, āI donāt know the letter y?ā
My Korean ass⦠Iām like wait! Theres only 24!
I love how his delivery was also much worse.
It's all in the delivery kid!
My daughter used to tell me jokes like this when she was little, but she would crack up before ever getting to the punchline.
Good practice for corporate america.
Top level Uncle shit right there!
Wholesome and funny
That is funny

That was mean.. do it againš
I dont get it
How rude!
How is this a kid being stupid? This was actually funny
I think op thinks the kid is over reacting for something so unserious
Im not gonna say it isnt an overreaction. But with the videoing her crying while they laugh, it feels like borderline bullying.
Give her a $20 anyway
Mom, I'm not upset because they were mean to me...I'm upset because I just found out two people I admired arent worthy of that respect.
This was just sad to watch
Give that little girl her $20 š
More like adults are freaking evil
Two adults pick on 9 year old who wanted to make them laugh. This stuff is hard to watch someone want to be mean for the sake of being mean.
It was a little funny, but I hope he felt bad and apologized to her afterwards
He should've sooner before she left the room
The adding a video of him laughing and her crying makes me think he didn't.
This isnt a kid being dumb. This is essentially bullying.
Hope he did. But this is kind of a mean prank for a kid.
I never bullied my siblings... what's wrong with me?
Itās fun
Once again Redditors taking everything wayyyy too seriously. This girl will be fine. Everything will be fine. The sun will still rise. This is one moment in her entire lifetime. Itās honestly pretty pathetic how many adults hold onto childhood trauma and find the need to project that onto random videos they see on the internet. Itās not that deep losers
I was on board with this until the final shot laughing at her crying. This didn't seem like a lesson learing joke. It honestly just feels mean spirited, especially the recording it part.
Lovely family <3
That's mean. Funny, but mean. š
That poor girl, she was crying. Thatās not funny, I hope they apologized and gave her the $20 each.
Mormon vibes
Right, left, uppercut!
Valuable lesson: Delivery and context can make or break a joke
She was the one who delivered the joke properly, "I don't know Y" is a play on words, "I don't know the letter Y" wrecks everything. This is not Kids Are Fucking Stupid, this is Uncles are Mean
Ah! Her first taste of sexism. Jk.

Sobering, huh? š
Thatās gonna cost the Uncle a $100
They have a nice house.
I'm entertained.
Thatās peak uncle humor.
I'm gonna make my uncle laugh for twenty (holds up 7 fingers) dollars!
That āyall leave her alone!!ā Is giving me flashbacks lmao
Poor kid...
Engineering Explained having a day off it seems
Dude kids are fucking stupid
When someone says my joke but they get laughs instead of me.
