I refuse to accept it. They were a very good team that couldn’t overcome the following…
Parity in the league (by design)
Strength of schedule. Look at who they lost to and then look at the playoff standings.
Constant Prime time games to maximize exposure for the league.
3 freaking Thursday night games! Is that even supposed to happen?
Injuries and missed games by key contributors.
Bad luck.
Divisional opponents building teams specifically to beat them.
Thursday games right after Sunday games too. We're definitely not evolving our offense to match this season and we could and should have .. and if yesterday's game is any indication we definitely needed to use some of these players instead of being loyalty focused.
Fulton actually was playing mostly good yesterday considering he got no love all season and his PBU put us in a spot to win games. It was fun watching this group try to overcome the odds if only because we had no basis for comparison. Just look at the fandom - pissed at CJ for the offsides because we know him but Oladokun made some bad choices (it's his first NFL game we can cut the dude some slack) and still showed some incredible presence against a team who's fighting for the 1 seed, has a great defense, with a second string OL, and he's never even played a full game before.
It seems like an unpopular opinion on this sub and granted there's not a lot of film on him but between him and Smith we actually got a touchdown drive AND were so close to tying the game with like a minute to go. If they would have just let the Broncos score and we keep our timeouts we may have even won.
Despite us losing that was the Chiefs loss I wanted to see - them balling out and trying to win and having fun.
Nobody's refusing to accept that. There's a semantic difference between "we got worse" and "everyone got better" but an important one to realize. This is still the same championship team but we changed nothing about our approach while other teams brought in young people and made adjustments through the draft.
Are these good teams? Well yeah. The Broncos are still essentially the same team they were last year. We look worse because we learned nothing and did nothing and won our first game because of a lucky blocked field goal and essentially tanking our second to rest starters.
We destroyed the Raiders this year and last year won because they fumbled a snap. Nothing is "worse" about us the team is still good while also being objectively bad because the luck covered up our mistakes. The Super Bowl should have been the first clue we were eeking by even with a 15-1 record.
I really believe all of those dropped passes in clutch moments are what ruined this season. PM was still making those plays, catches instead of drops is where momentum is born, I think those games would have been won… Not saying the other issues and injuries wouldn’t have derailed a playoff run, but catch the damn ball already.
The offense wasn’t better, it was the same mediocre unit it has been for 3 years. Unable to sustain drives and be consistent.
I can’t count the number of times the offense had a chance to close a game and they didn’t capitalize. It has happend during the last 3 seasons, but the defense couldn’t keep us in games anymore this season
The reason we are worse is we are still trying the same plays that now the entire league has studied for hours, that coupled with our weaknesses also being extensively studied is just the perfect storm of this.
The Chiefs have been on a Tony Montana level coke bender for 6 years and the coke supplier just dried up. The crash from the highest high is massive.
Few, if any, team can sustain that level of success that long. This was inevitable. Though the inevitability doesn't make the pain any less hard.
We accurately cannot say "they'll be back," the best we can hope for is for them to regain the ability, talent, and coaching to be competitive in the years to come. To be a threat but not not the forgone conclusion.
This is the period where Mahomes will show his HOF greatness. Adjusting to injury, adjusting to new coaching, and adversity
Regardless of the new few years this has been the single greatest period of my sports Fandom life. Never did I ever expect a single super bowl appearance in my lifetime. To have 5 and 3 wins with a back-to-back will sustain me for another decade.
Yeah, I mean everyone expected us to go to the playoffs 75 years in a row right, while drafting 28-32. Man other Chiefs fans really have reasonable expectations.
If every Chiefs fan wants to feel warm and fuzzy giving legacy contracts to old guys, expect some down years.
Well we can start with we really didn't address left tackle outside of a handful of games. Simmons was gone or hurt most of the year. Kelce nor Jones played up to their usual levels, although cost us over 50 million in salary. Our WR's can't beat man coverage to save their lives. Butker is still imploding, and we have no run game to speak of.
All that said, we're now in cap hell and have to finally make up for kicking the can down the road.
Our window was open, we went to 5 Super Bowls and won 3 of them, and won 10 AFC West Championships in a row.
If we're still complaining after coming off of our record-setting 3 Super Bowls in a row, there is something wrong with the fans, not the team.
I'd replay the last 10 years over and over again, rather than sitting my ass down in a seat to watch Bill Kenney, then Elvis Grbac, etc.....
Jaylon Moore was a perfectly serviceable swing tackle this year for his price tag.
Of all the things you can blame the front office for, addressing OL is like the least of my concerns. No team has the depth for how many injuries we had on the line.
The bigger issue is how horribly the coaching staff adapted to the OL injuries, continuing to force Mahomes to extend and roll out to create anything behind a bad OL and on an already injured knee. But Reid got blown out in two separate Super Bowls because he has zero clue how to adapt the gameplan for a depleted OL, so maybe we should’ve just expected this.
True, but theres a big difference between 10-7 and getting a wild card and the joke this year was. Since the superbowl, this team has been an an embarrassment. Frankly all of last year was mostly luck too so they haven't been good in two years.
A down year will be really good for them I believe. Give them the boost they need to start actually fixing the problems they have. Let the players know that they can't just coast every year to the super bowl just because it happened the prior years. Every team needs a wake up call every so often.
I'm bewildered by this common refrain in Chiefs kingdom. The Chiefs have been getting 6 months of rest after playing in the SB.
I still haven't heard one person explain to me why adding ONE more month to that rest period will make such a monumental difference. The idea of having exhaustion that can only be healed by resting 7 months, not 6.... that's ridiculous to me.
Lol you really don't think the fact the Chiefs have played basically an entire extra season worth of car crash like impacts over the last 6 years wears on them mentally and physically?
I fear we all may be vastly underestimating both Andy and Brett’s ability to just chalk this up to injuries and suspensions, and setting our selves up for disappointment when Nagy is still OC, and no major releases/signings are completed offseason. Say nothing of the fact that there’s a lot to fix for next year roster wise including the DL, secondary, a primary back, and possibly most importantly - a true #1 receiver who knows how to get open. Hell, even a couple less than stellar receivers who know how to actually get open.
What I could very much see happening is BV wasting a top 10 pick on an RB, and worse, Andy still failing to get a 1000 yard rusher next year because we don’t change anything offensively.
I know this sounds overly pessimistic, but look how long it takes Andy to move on from coordinators and make change. There’s nothing historically in Andy’s years of coaching to suggest we should expect anything but more of the same.
This is the sad thing, we don't have the resources to fill up the holes we have, so we will need top tier coaching and scheming to make up for it. The chances that will happen are not good.
KC has had 19 one score games over these past two seasons. Last year's team was not as good as their 15-1 record, and this year's team is not as bad as their 6-9 record.
I think being upset with the product he put on the field this year is okay. But firing him is dumb. However if he doesn’t show any change again for 2026, I’ll lean in towards the firing.
Right? Except for his personnel decisions, the team discipline, his stale offensive scheme, he's a wonderful coach. As long as he changes all that, we're golden.
Counterpoint;
Reids scheme is antiquated and predictable.
Its been that way since 23. Everyone clamouring that his system is complex seems to only be complex to him and his staff because almost every other D coordinator and players have easily figured it out.
Mahomes covers up a lot of Reids lazy play calling and the defense was a top 10 unit in 23 that brought them the Lombardi. You can also easily go through several of last seasons wins and say they were on the lucky side of the bouncing balls.
This season showed that when you’re not getting the lucky bounces and the defense regresses in talent and can’t overcome the bad offense schemes who else shoulders the blame…. Its Reid. This is very similar to Reids downfall after he lost in the SB as the Eagles HC. Each season he got worse.
If Reid doesn’t reinvent his scheme and stop putting loyalty ahead of capability next season then thats an indictment of Reid and he either needs to retire or ClarkHunt needs to move on.
Hunt cannot allow Reids to squander another season of a generational talent in Mahomes.
That they got to only by being on the positive side of every fluke imaginable, and then they were completely demoralized in that Super Bowl. The days of snapping the ball, and having Mahomes create a miracle out of nothing, need to be over.
To be fair to them it worked for 3 years in a row, it's hard to change when you're in the Superbowl every year. If they don't change after this year's results however, then it's time to clean house.
Importantly not just our prime. As prime as anyone ever. Pats were the pats because they came back and did it again a decade later. Our run is, as such, tied for the top 3 in the history of the sport. The other hof qbs in this era may never see one ring and would still have careers as anyone to ever do it. Mahomes is mahomes, Andy is Andy, etc etc because the did it. And then again and another again
That last week tho, they lost 0 - 38 to the Broncos. And youd think that even the 2nd stringers, with some starters mixed in, would put up a fight or score at least 3 points.
The 15 wins had what, like 10ish one score wins in there.
Before the Houston game I put money on them losing out, I look for Payton to run the score up given the chance, AR and him aren’t exactly drinking buddies.
We had “better” receivers this year and somehow played worse.. Mahomes was broken before he got broken. The play calling was suspect as hell, almost like we were losing on purpose. Chris lining up offsides on key downs like he was a rookie again..
Can’t believe I’m seeing people overreact to 1 bad game. We’re in a slump, I get it. However to say this team isn’t a playoff team is just ridiculous. To everyone who thinks we won’t be playing in February, don’t show up for our Super Bowl parade then. Good riddance.
The difference in changing nothing over the course of a year.
What do you mean? We've progressively gotten worse.
Change is change
We didn't get worse, the rest of the league got better and we stayed the same.
No the Chiefs very much got worse, the league as a whole is weaker this year than last year. The Chiefs are just bad
Absolutely blows my mind how many people still refuse to accept how bad the Chiefs are / were this season.
I refuse to accept it. They were a very good team that couldn’t overcome the following…
Parity in the league (by design) Strength of schedule.
Flame away.
Thursday games right after Sunday games too. We're definitely not evolving our offense to match this season and we could and should have .. and if yesterday's game is any indication we definitely needed to use some of these players instead of being loyalty focused.

That's a lie lol
How is it a lie? They pick ahead of us with every draft pic.
The broncos, chargers, Texans and Jags all got better. There’s 4 of our losses right there
Our defense was worse. Our offense was better. We just were not clutch and/or lucky in close games. And stone hands in important moments.
I really believe all of those dropped passes in clutch moments are what ruined this season. PM was still making those plays, catches instead of drops is where momentum is born, I think those games would have been won… Not saying the other issues and injuries wouldn’t have derailed a playoff run, but catch the damn ball already.
The drops make all the difference. They made the difference in SBLV too.
That didn't help, but I'd say our OL getting dresses hung on them was a bigger factor.
Luck definitely played a big role last year. For instance, the blocked field goal in the broncos game.
the delusion here is astounding. Chiefs got worse on defense and special teams. Chiefs also went back to 2023 version of dropping catches
The reason we are worse is we are still trying the same plays that now the entire league has studied for hours, that coupled with our weaknesses also being extensively studied is just the perfect storm of this.
The Chiefs luck went from good to bad.
The Chiefs have been on a Tony Montana level coke bender for 6 years and the coke supplier just dried up. The crash from the highest high is massive.

It’s the new hair style
Yeah, I mean everyone expected us to go to the playoffs 75 years in a row right, while drafting 28-32. Man other Chiefs fans really have reasonable expectations.
If every Chiefs fan wants to feel warm and fuzzy giving legacy contracts to old guys, expect some down years.
Talent depletion isn't the root cause of this season though. It's old shitty scheme and bad coaching. Plus a dash of bad luck
Well we can start with we really didn't address left tackle outside of a handful of games. Simmons was gone or hurt most of the year. Kelce nor Jones played up to their usual levels, although cost us over 50 million in salary. Our WR's can't beat man coverage to save their lives. Rest. They are so very tired.
I think this is most of it.
We can't comprehend how intense that profession is. The demands it places on the mind and body.
The playoffs take it to a whole other level. This is why I refuse to judge them too harshly.
All that said, a rested and motivated team will still be unsuccessful if the coaching isn't there. Change needs to happen in that area.
Sounds like copium, TBH.
when you play multiple games into the playoffs every season, that's all mileage that players on other teams aren't adding to their bodies
Lol you really don't think the fact the Chiefs have played basically an entire extra season worth of car crash like impacts over the last 6 years wears on them mentally and physically?
I'm bewildered that this is confusing to you.
Thinks NFL players just chill the entire off-season, LOL.
I hope you don't supervise anyone...
I fear we all may be vastly underestimating both Andy and Brett’s ability to just chalk this up to injuries and suspensions, and setting our selves up for disappointment when Nagy is still OC, and no major releases/signings are completed offseason. Yep. Be prepared for exactly this, Chiefs Kingdom.
A Super Bowl would have been nice too
Just hope we don't go through the same drought the Cheatriots did from 2005 to 2013 --- nine seasons of mediocrity and losing Super Bowls
They went to the Super Bowl or AFCCG several times during that stretch.
Lost two Bowls to Eli --- nothin' to really brag about
If we're lucky we will have a "drought" that good.
Probably the only game I had fun watching last year.
The saints game was pretty relaxing too.
KC has had 19 one score games over these past two seasons. Last year's team was not as good as their 15-1 record, and this year's team is not as bad as their 6-9 record.
Patrick Mahomes is gonna go crazy after 9 months of “watching film”
I'm still having to remind people that we were in the Super Bowl earlier this year. All of the "Fire Reid!" people, for instance.
I think being upset with the product he put on the field this year is okay. But firing him is dumb. However if he doesn’t show any change again for 2026, I’ll lean in towards the firing.
The fire Reid people are literally just idiots. Pay them no mind
Fire Nagy though?
Right? Except for his personnel decisions, the team discipline, his stale offensive scheme, he's a wonderful coach. As long as he changes all that, we're golden.
Even if I had a mind I wouldn’t be paying it to them

Haven't we been saying these are the good ol days for years? Lol
yeah if you couldn't tell that the last decade was the chiefs prime that's a perception issue on your part
BRO U DIDNT KNOW ALREADY??!! 3 SB’s???!!!!!
Literally everyone here knew?
Then all the opposing teams figured out how predictable our offensive is
That last week tho, they lost 0 - 38 to the Broncos. And youd think that even the 2nd stringers, with some starters mixed in, would put up a fight or score at least 3 points.
The 15 wins had what, like 10ish one score wins in there.
It was the canary in the coal mine for sure. And nothing was changed
Before the Houston game I put money on them losing out, I look for Payton to run the score up given the chance, AR and him aren’t exactly drinking buddies.
Payton isn’t friends with non-POS humans haha
Don’t of many people I talk to thinks much of him.
I am already over this year and looking forward to next year. Everyone have a happy New Year's.
We had “better” receivers this year and somehow played worse.. Mahomes was broken before he got broken. The play calling was suspect as hell, almost like we were losing on purpose. Chris lining up offsides on key downs like he was a rookie again..
And the year before that we lost to the Raiders to fall to 9-6 and appeared all but done.
Football is a funny game sometimes. I like the Chiefs chances today
Can’t believe I’m seeing people overreact to 1 bad game. We’re in a slump, I get it. However to say this team isn’t a playoff team is just ridiculous. To everyone who thinks we won’t be playing in February, don’t show up for our Super Bowl parade then. Good riddance.
Nice copy pasta from like week 5
You do know that we’ve locked in our 0% chance at being in the playoffs, right?
100% they’re being sarcastic
Wow a LOT of you missed this pretty obvious piece of sarcasm
Yup lol
Maybe our fans are all little bandwagon kids holy fuck 😂😂
Lol the Chiefs were mathematically eliminated already a couple weeks ago. Good try though.
Lool we already eliminated from playoffs . Next year we will be back and we will be playing in feb 2027
Mahomey and Kelse both done Fun while it lasted Greedy owner moves away geez
