Hi friends, just wondering how the shower and restroom situation is during FoV. Are there showers available? How do you stay fresh/clean while camping?
Haha that reminds me when I was taking a piss during one of the sets and Amby said "how y'all feeling tonight?" The guy In the stall beside me said "IM TRIPPING BALLLLLS" in the most calm yet worrysome way š
Showers were $5. There were limited hooks to hang things and no shelves, so pack light. My first shower stall didnāt have hot water, and the second one would go from scalding hot to ice cold. So - itās not a relaxing/luxurious experience but it gets the job done.
Iād recommend shower shoes or flip flops.
Porta potties were mostly fine and mostly clean. The hand washing stations that I used (west camping) ran out of soap and/or water a lot so I recommend bringing hand sanitizer or your own stuff to wash your hands.
ETA: I also recommend body wipes or non-rinse wipes to stay fresh between showers.
Also, I live on the east coast where it is fairly humid so I was NOT prepared for how dry the air is up there. Next year Iām bringing saline nasal spray and a better bandana/face mask for the dust.
For SURE. I never noticed difficulty breathing or eye irritation or anything, but every time I blew my nose, just straight up dirt came out lol. It sneaks up on ya
Yeah I'm from the east and in addition to getting used to the elevation, my lips were chapping like crazy. Thank god they sold chapstick at the general store
As a Coloradoan, I'm so used to it that I never would have thought of this, but YES. Oh, and make sure you have a chapstick with you always (that's always my concert move, regardless of show.)
East side camping was basically the opposite, sure the porta potties had their moments but for a big festival is was like a vip experience, never a line at woman's showers and mayyyybe 10 min max at mens. Everything stocked except toilet paper real late at night but plenty of people were leaving rolls if you were daring enough to use em. Never a fear of someone going through my bag while I was showering or anything like that. The price is worth it just to feel human for those few minutes alone.Ā
Peculiar shower situation at this one - every morning Ambrose would roll around on the back of a golf cart holding a beer bong above his head. For $5 he would load up a 12oz can of Red Stripe and slowly release it while chanting the first verse of Sadie Sorceress like a Gregorian monk. The shower line moved with the cart, and grew to a few hundred by mid-day. If you tried to drink the beer instead of bathe in it you had shower privileges revoked for the weekend
Yeah I was very impressed waking up Saturday morning to spotless, empty portapotties. I was expecting to find them completely thrashed after a wild first night.
The worst part was how frequently soap and water ran out so, OP, bring extra hand sanitation solutions.
Please donāt use soap of any kind in the creek! Folks, biodegradable soap doesnāt mean itās safe or healthy to use in natural water settings. Itās really damaging to the flora and fauna. I get that this isnāt a back country experience but leave no trace ethics would have you putting that water in a container and taking it 200ā away before using your soap.
Fresh and clean? My friend, this is king gizzard, we are drowning in a mosh pit summoning demons. Plus there is a creek for washing the blood off afterwards
Live the creek life. Just wash off in the creek. Obviously dont put soaps and shit in it but it's constant very cold water that will wash and revitalize. And free.
Itās worth bringing a bag with tp and sanitizer when you go to the portopotties in the campground. Inside the main stage area seemed to be better at stocking tp.
Cleanest portapotty situation at any festival Iāve ever been to. Some are really bad occasionally but they were generally cleaning them 3 or 4 times a day
We opted for just baby wipe baths and frequent dips in the river last year, and then a prompt drive to a hotel on Monday for a shower. It depends entirely on your comfort threshold. I've gone on longer camping trips and gone longer without showering, so 4 nights wasn't an unusual experience for me. But if you want them, I heard they weren't terrible.
As for bathrooms, the only ones were porta potties. They were changed frequently and usually pretty clean. Definitely recommend bringing your own hand sanitizer and water for washing up at camp, as I don't like using recycled water to wash with. Plus, people spit in those sinks. Yuck.
Donāt walk too close to the port o pottie maintenance truck. Itās vacuuming all of that shit into the truck and the exhaust is awful. Give the truck a wide berth!
I brought a solar shower and used that, while it still wasnāt exactly a hot shower it did heat up well in the sun by the afternoon. Biggest trouble was not having too many trees by our campsite, so we had to hold it up for each other and kinda squat down. Personally will be doing that again
Absolutely bringing some extra TP next year btw. They did a great job keeping the portapotties clean and stocked, but even still they ran out a few times. That's another must for me
I took one shower (I think Saturday afternoon) and tbh it wasnāt very easy. I heard good things you pay 5 bucks and the water was hot. Seemed pretty straight forward. I just didnāt prepare for the set up. Itās basically just curtains dividing a bunch of shower heads and you sling your clothes towels over while you do your thing.
Lighting was minimal and there was literally no where to put anything your (clothes soap, tooth brush, shampoo) so I was constantly dropping things on the ground and getting dry shit wet.
On top of that the trailer I was in was flooding so by the time I was done I was basically just standing in a puddle of our wook water trying to get dressed. I honestly donāt know if I was any less sweaty/clean by the time I left.
Maybe they were better earlier in the festival, but I found that jumping in the creek was way better than taking a shower
There were portapotties every where and kept very clean comparatively. Their was a trailer open during the day where it was I believe 5 dollars to shower
I showered every day since I went to FOV on my period. The $5 a day was worth it especially if youre not planning on buying food every day for every meal. Bring flip flops or water shoes! There was a hook outside each stall to hang a bag for clothes/toiletries (and your bag will get wet probably so beware). Go a little further back if theres wind that day, the curtains sway like CRAZY in the wind!
The portapotties were emptied pretty religiously. Not pleasant but way better than I expected. Wouldnt recommend using right after Gizz plays though!
They do cost, but I'm not sure how much, because I was first, they did not have payment setup yet. Since I had been waiting and it was 3pm (when the shower station opened) they let me go in for free. It was already gross. A trailer with maybe 10 3x3 stainless steel shower spaces with a curtain to shield you from the aisle down the middle. As soon as you enter the trailer there is a community sink room. Only 2 faucets I believe..I left my clothes and belongings there because there was no space for them in the shower area. I took the first one in the aisle. Bad idea. All the water from the other showers flowed down stream. Thru my shower, down the drain. Gross. Someone dropped their soap, it came into my shower, I handed it back. It was cold. Maybe because I was first, and the propane hadn't heated the water yet.. it was refreshing enough since I had been camping for days in the wild previously while getting to FOV, but I was glad I didn't pay for for that experience. It was good to be clean to start the fest. But I cannot imagine what those showers looked like by Sunday. I was skeeved at 3p on Thursday.
The bathrooms were port-o-potty and they were cleaned frequently enough and it didn't seem as bad as other fests I had been to.
The creek was also very refreshing to get in, daily.
My experience with the Porta Potties was quite good. The cleaning trucks seemed to be barreling through every 4-5 hours. I NEVER went into one without it being absurdly clean (for a porta potty, anyway)ā¦and rarely did I ever have to wait for one.
Showers were hit or miss. Thereās very little room inside each stall. For larger folks, it mustāve been a real chore. Water temp could fluctuate but it was tolerable. My method was to just go in with my swimming trunks on and just rinse off. Bringing a bunch of accoutrements inside the stall was somewhat impractical since there was nowhere to set anything (except on the slimy floor).
All in all, this was easily the best run festival Iāve been to or even heard about. Kudos to King Gizz and the incredible Meadow Creek staffā¤ļø
They were really great last year! Iād eat food off the floor of some of the port a pots! You animals better keep it as clean this year. West side camping was easily the messiest lol
Three/four days in cool comfortable weather, with a cool creek to dip in every morning. I didnāt even consider needing a shower. Do bring wet wipes, and hand sanitizer, if youāre into that sort of thing.
The inside door handles for the portos look like a scary horse man's face
Haha that reminds me when I was taking a piss during one of the sets and Amby said "how y'all feeling tonight?" The guy In the stall beside me said "IM TRIPPING BALLLLLS" in the most calm yet worrysome way š

There was also porta potty poetry.

This!
If you havenāt experienced the aridness of the west, nothing can prepare you for it.
I got so many bloody noses.
As a Coloradoan, I'm so used to it that I never would have thought of this, but YES. Oh, and make sure you have a chapstick with you always (that's always my concert move, regardless of show.)
Currently in Colorado with chapped lips and can confirm
Yes!! Chapstick is a MUST!

The portapotties are portapotties. I will say, they are kept clean and emptied more often than pretty much anywhere else you can find
Yeah I was very impressed waking up Saturday morning to spotless, empty portapotties. I was expecting to find them completely thrashed after a wild first night.

100%, pretty much never got to use a hand was station. It was nice starting the day with a clean porta potty tho
lol I think most people just bathed in the creek.
Porta potties by the camp were clean early morning
Pretty sure the creek was like 33 degrees.
I was sad I was never willing to go in past my knees lol
Yeah but it was like 85 degrees and pretty hot
The daily dunk.
if you do this use biodegradable soap! dr bronners works well

I get that this isnāt a back country experience but leave no trace ethics would have you putting that water in a container and taking it 200ā away before using your soap.
If you insist on cleaning up creekside, bring a collapsable bucket and some dr bronners.
Fresh and clean? My friend, this is king gizzard, we are drowning in a mosh pit summoning demons. Plus there is a creek for washing the blood off afterwards
Thatās the spirit.
Live the creek life. Just wash off in the creek. Obviously dont put soaps and shit in it but it's constant very cold water that will wash and revitalize. And free.
username checks out. that creek was fucking freezing.
The creek was indeed very cool. Did the job. Im very greasy as a person and the creek was my savior
Itās worth bringing a bag with tp and sanitizer when you go to the portopotties in the campground. Inside the main stage area seemed to be better at stocking tp.
I heard there was 1-2ā of standing water on the floor of the showers so I just rinsed myself in the creek every morning. It was kinda nice
There was no standing water in the showers at central, which I used every day.

One of the porta potties said "don't forget to remember" still thinking about that one.

Proof!
Yes, nice hot showers. A million porta-poties. Felt very comfortable compared to literally any other festival Iāve ever been to.
The showers got used at FoV?

I jumped in the pond each day to wake up. Very refreshing.

Creek?
Portos were pretty damn good as far as festivals go, the shower situation was the usual. I never had an issue with either
I showered every day since I went to FOV on my period. The $5 a day was worth it especially if youre not planning on buying food every day for every meal. Bring flip flops or water shoes! I was the first person to shower at FOV.. AMA

It's a music festival. Take wet wipes. Plastic free and biodegradable of course.
They were really great last year! Iād eat food off the floor of some of the port a pots! You animals better keep it as clean this year. West side camping was easily the messiest lol
Bring wet wipes and take an Italian shower. (NB Iām allowed to use this term because I am Italian descent).
Works great for backcountry or travel.
If you shower in the creek be mindful that even biodegradable soaps are still not great to be released directly into the water.
The proper term is a whores bath.
My mom would say a bird bath :)
