I’m pretty close to starting a class action lawsuit against freightliner on how the decided to cut zip ties. This has to be intentional. Almost impossible to work on these without ruining your arms

Either dont cut them off, or cut them flush.
I've seen someone do this as a marker for changes being done in service. basically, it makes you aware that it isn't stock in and around the area they've used the ties. I've also known someone use a punch to put a hole in the tie tail to do the same thing.
That seems like a lot of effort for something that could be easily represented by a colored zip tie. Just order a pack from McMaster and call it a day.
What's more infuriating is when you watch someone do this with flush cut pliers. It's a tool perfectly suited to making these things as harmless as possible but you... YOU chose violence.

It’s a 3 step process that takes about 5 seconds longer than a single cut, but it leaves a nice curved nub that can be seized with needle nose and pulled tighter if needed. Also, no cutting self accidentally later when replacing a filter or belt

First of all freightliner runs their wires and air hoses in the most ignorant way possible, and in a two foot span there will be 20 zip ties cut exactly like that. All of them, they don’t cut any of them straight across.

I cut most of mine like this, but then I follow up by hitting it with a lighter so they aren't sharp. Can't cut ya if they aren't sharp
At the factory I used a zip tie gun, or left the tail intact so it’s not sharp
I don't own a zip tie gun and I don't trust flush cut. And leaving the tail drives me nuts
I see, in my case leaving the tail provides a visual guide to the customer as to where the accessories are located on the pallet
On a pallet the tail makes sense, in an engine bay it just looks unfinished to me.
