Of all subreddits to turn political, why is it this one. How is this related to hmmm. This sub is more like r/ memes now .

  • political brainrot is a real thing

  • When meme subs go political

    Either,

    1. Mod team is garbage

    Or

    1. Mod team is inactive

Meme subs either become brain dead karma farming or braindead political memes. Either way most mainstream meme subs are just so brain dead and solely for karma farming

No more like if a sub gets big enough admins force one of their mega mods into it to ensure it protects “the narrative” whatever it is at that moment.

I just figured it was because American society is in such disarray that nobody can ignore it any longer. When you see "political" stuff, such as protesting US imperialism, bleed into various unrelated subreddits, it's likely because life is serious and the people have had enough.

So we have to be affected too? Americans aren't the only people in those subs. The Internet is one of the few places people can escape reality for a bit, but when you introduce reality into every single escape it's not an escape anymore it's a mirror. If the escapes become too real people will just seek out other worse means like drugs or even worse death. This sounds like bullshit but it happens all the time.

American imperialism does indeed affect other people, that's the whole problem with imperialism. If you want to escape reality, then read a book. Social media is where people connect over ideas and current events. If you want to bury your head in the sand then go do something non-social.

So you're an imperialist then? You barely understood my comment and yet you argue so confidently, let me explain "book is escape, book being contains lots of politics, book no escape anymore, book is reminder of reality." A person seeking to relax and entertain themself isn't gonna want to be constantly reminded of the issues the World is facing cause that isn't very relaxing is it? Yes social media is exactly for that but the sheer diversity of ideas that could be shared means that it needs to be sectioned into groups so that for example a person looking to discuss art can go and discuss it in the appropriate groups instead if shouting into the ether hoping for someone knowledgeable in the topic choice. Posting Porn in a political group wouldn't make sense so why is that the reverse makes sense to you?

Reddit doesnt match reality though. Lol

  • Squidward with two legs is kinda cursed.

    I thought it looked off.

  • I can see there's AI slop in the bottom, so that makes it infinitely worse

    Oh, just noticed. LOL

  • It’s nearly impossible to be on any platform and in any group, page, or sub where politics doesn’t dominate. It’s becoming everyone’s identity.. left or right. 🙄

Yes people need to focus on other stuff it's seriously annoys me to people the make the right-wing they're the entire personality Talking about political topics is one thing but making that your personality is another

  • Squidward with 4 limbs is cursed

  • Why does his shirt have nipples lol?

    It's AI Generated

Yeah, I was aware of that, it is still goofy though. Like not ever AI generated image has shirt nipples LOL.

  • If I recall correctly the leader was a bad person? I haven’t been keeping up considering there are a lot of different opinions saying opposing things and I’ve no clue who is and isn’t correct.

But yeah I get yelled at for not having an opinion, lol

To be objective Venezuela was under a dictatorship, and a lot of Venezuelans didn’t like it.

I used to not have an opinion on politics too, so I strongly resonate with your view.

People used to attack me all the time, saying I was “no better than them”…

That’s what ultimately led to me being pushed away from them in the first place.

Yeah I’ve been told literally to my face that because I am a Caucasian man, that I shouldn’t have an opinion or say so in terms of what goes on with people of color, women, or both.

So I don’t have an opinion on such things yet get yelled at for not having an opinion.

    Apparently makes me undateable…

That's bullshit, whoever told you you're not allowed to have an opinion cause you're a white guy is not only retarded but fucking racist, just like anyone else you're completely able to have any opinion about whatever topic you want.

However, when you're talking about a topic you're not personally affected by or in place you haven't been to, you gotta by careful cause the sources from which you gained that info can be wrong or very biased, for example, I've seen many people not just in this post but on reddit overall, claiming that only Venezuelans on the US are celebrating, this is absolutely not correct and I can attest this since I'm a Colombian with many Venezuelan acquaintances both inside Venezuela and living here.

Also, if some bitch tells you you're undatable cause you don't have an opinion or don't wanna share, you just dodged a bullet pal

Yeah, I’m also smart enough to know that if I don’t know something I’m not gonna make myself look like an idiot by talking about things I don’t know.

But apparently I have to pick sides…

Well then, that makes you smarter than 80% of reddit my man, this is one of the very few political topics I talk about cause I know what I'm talking about fairly well.

And nah, going back to my first comment, if you wanna have an opinion research and have it, otherwise just don't pick a side and ignore that, it's not that important, life on earth is finite and way too important for someone to waste on researching and forming an opinion on every political shitshow that happens.

Thanks, the Bumble Subreddit seems to think otherwise, lol

Like I said, bunch of dimwits that can't comprehend that there's people that don't want to waste their life playing pick a side

Reddit somehow thinks the "you're with us or against us" mentality is valid.

Yep exactly, they can't understand the idea that people can actually find nuance on discussions and develop more neutral opinions or agree with some things about one side and some things about the other

People on Reddit can barely even comprehend what hot/controversial takes are. Like I saw a post recently and the OP and comments were all somehow shocked that actual hot takes are...well controversial.

If someone doesn't wanna date you because you don't have an opinion on a specific topic, you just saved yourself alot of hassle

Apparently it 'makes me boring' and 'have no ambitions.'

Free Free Palestine! But not Venezuela!

I saw a video where a bunch of white liberals are screaming to free Maduro in front of a bunch of Venezuelans who had to flee their country because of Maduro.

I’m more concerned about the civilians caught in the middle of this shitshow

I wouldn’t call an operation that successfully captured a dictator alive in a few hours a shit show. A dictator that killed 10,000+ of his own people and the reason behind one of the largest, if not the largest migration crisis.

All I got to say is hey we caught the bad guy at least.

    They’re fucking clueless. It’s pathetic

If Trump asked congress we wouldn’t be nearly as upset. It’s not who it did it to it’s how he did it. Either he thinks he can subvert congress entirely or congress is willingly not doing their jobs. Either way it’s not a good thing in regards to our government.

If I recall correctly the leader was a bad person?

Do you live under a rock?

Yes, he was a piece of shit who, along with Hugo Chavez, made almost all Venezuelans miserable.

I was making sure because I saw people saying the opposite, was double checking my sources by asking.

Whoever told you that is a tankie. And an idiot. Although the first always implies the second, of course.

  • All of the videos I’ve seen of Venezuelans celebrating turned out to actually be from flordia or Texas, not Venezuela lol

as in diaspora living in texas or just joe average texan?

I saw one report about it and they turned out to be ethnically Venezuelan or came from there. Some interviewed stated reasons they hope this means they might see their families back in the country again. Not because the USA captured Maduro.

Most Venezuelans fled to other countries because of the dictatorship. I’m Argentinian and there’s a lot of refugees here too. America has a large hispanic community, so it wouldn’t surprise me if some went there as well.

It’s more how the American news is slightly editing t he reasons why they’re celebrating that I dislike. Someone celebrating for the hope they might return home or see families again is much different from someone celebrating we went in and bombed a country and took their dictator (which actually did kill some civilians by the way). Same with someone who literally witnessed the event happen, rather than someone who used to live there x amount of years ago and heard about it on the news. They will have both very different recounts of the event that just happened.

A dictatorship falling and seeing family again are both reasons to celebrate. But it’s the lying by omission or changing the reasoning is the part I don’t like.

I would like to add that they also took away one single guy, most likely nothing will change other than whoever is now giving the face, there are still bad people in power. This may be my paranoia but I think this is just the start of something very bad. Nothing wrong with celebrating about the removal of Maduro, but I dont agree with how it was done, especially with the US now threatening Mexico and Colombia. We also should not ignore how many "Liberated" countries ended up after US invertention, especially latin america with their extensive history with the US.

    Or straight up AI-generated

lol.. this post as about someone unsubbing because it’s gotten political.. aaaand you continue with the politics. 😂😂😂

Are you ops mom or something?

    "B- But muh totalitarian dictatorship!1!!1!"

  • I’m actually surprised that it’s making fun of the left becomes the mainstream subreddits lean so far to the left

And by lean I mean off the rails

suddenly "going political" is bad for the left now

  • I make a habit of unsubbing from any sub that has a whiff of politics in it, even if it's something I agree with

    Life's so much better

  • also that squidward image is AI generated

  • Venezuelans like being bombed, good to know. Not personally my thing to be bombed; but hey, if some people are saying they like it, then I guess I can't say anything about how ridiculous that is, because I'm american.

mfs when a dictator known for making people have to eat their own pets to survive gets caught:

What happened to "two wrongs dont make a right"? If the US takes out a dictator like it lied about wanting to do in Iraq while also invading and destroying the lives of everyone in the country, how is that any better? How does someone's life improve by them being bombed as the post says?

they were bomb just to capture maduro, not to destroy the country like Iraq. also I hate the us but it didn't lie about it, trump admitted it was for oil which is sad but so was Russia and China doing the same thing for the last 30 years.

I hear they are killing babies in incubators too

It's less about "oh no the dictator is gone" and more about "The US bombed a country and kidnapped it's political leader with zero oversight or warning because it wants said country's oil. This has happened before and resulted in disaster multiple times."

"MUH OIL, WONT SOMEBODY THINK OF THE OIL"

  • Joining this sub really sets it in perspective how many subs are being taken over by politics..

  • its funny how right wingers say that venezulans are happy about their president being kidnapped,

i live in a dictatorship, take it from me, no one here would like for someone to come kidnap our president,

This is OUR country, you have NO RIGHT BEING IN IT

You have fundamentally misunderstood why he was yoinked that you’re talking like that.

Might wanna hide your post history if you’re gonna pretend to be a Venezuelan

OP's not pretending to be Venezuelan??

Now I have no clue where he lives because he's in like 50 different subs dedicated to the Middle East.

    I think he's Egyptian

I thought it was implied with the “no one here” but I’m sick so my judgment is probably wack

    Where did I say that...?

  • It seems like no one is thinking about America anymore I can't understand what's so hard to grasp about it

  • Of course the right thinks the Venezuelans are happy when realistically they probably didn’t even want the involvement.

Like, don’t get me wrong, Maduro being gone is good. But to me, it just seems like it was done so Trump can look like “the good guy”. It’s too suspicious. The onion makes a slew of negative changes when elected and then suddenly decides to kidnap a dictator? Doesn’t add up.

  • All media is political

Even a kids show is political!

Yes, very much so. SpongeBob is political.

    https://youtu.be/nZY6OsP5t4k?si=q3ldFhG23wy5fTpJ

I can’t get over how people are just determined to refuse to have media analysis skills and bury their heads in the sand rather than try and understand context.

Man, your world is so black and white, it’s fucking depressing.
