It’s sad how we will never see anything like this again really. Nothing is organic anymore in the music industry.
It’s all social media based, you need 1000+ followers these days to even get a gig or noticed and give a chance in the industry, producers and DJs are spending more time pushing their socials than doing random raw/organic performances .
History has a way of repeating itself. There is already quite a backlash to the over-compressed over-produced autotuned gloss that saturates the industry; and once AI slop starts to infiltrate there will be a lot of love awaiting raw and stripped-back songs with meaning again
I like lots of genres, and I’m a big fan of EDM…but I sure don’t feel satisfied after watching artists like skrillex or kiasmos headbanging away like they are performing, while literally pressing play and twiddling some knobs. It’s disconnected and boring af
This maybe the earliest version of a song that has gone on to have over 200 million streams on YouTube. The released version is a bit different with a much better production value, so people like to see these guys performing before they “got big”.
MGMT's "Kids" is pretty famous, yeah. Charted well in multiple countries, got a Grammy nomination, ended up on a lot of popular lists for best songs of the year ('08) or the decade ('00s), got a bunch of airplay.

There’s a great edit of this where it cuts to the same point int he song only in front of a massive crowd and a huge stage.
Got a link to it?

And another!
tbh for Pink Pony Club this version is the shiznit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jrCYp4WItk
Can there be a sub just for these then vs now live performances?
r/preformances is probably the closest you'll get.
probably not m8. I just don't think there's enough of this type of thing to sustain a subreddit
This made me very happy. Thank you!
Thanks!
Love that!!
That was cool. Dont give up on who you know you are meant to be.
damn never seen this one before, too much nostalgia. Thanks for sharing this OP.
Same. Got me feeling ways
In the beginning there, I thought they were making a bbq, lol
They cooked for sure.
/r/preformances
Subreddit of famous musicians performing before they were famous.
One of my favorite songs and favorite videos
I never get tired of this video for some reason
Just 2 dudes doing their thing for themselves, and hoping others enjoy it too. I think we all hope to have this kind of moment.
Same. I watch all of it every time it comes up. And it comes up a lot.
I was there and it was one of the best years of my life. I'm glad other people can feel some of the joy of Wesleyan.
I see a future for them
It’s no Time to Pretend.
Banging tune. Love how it started like this
Music is on point but holy fuck they dance like hellen keller
Sorry to be that guy, but what’s the song called?
Kids - MGMT
Thank you!
MGMT - kids
I miss shit like this in the early 2000s
One of the anthems of a generation

The Beatles rocking out the cabin club,
Daft Punk playing live at Even Further.
MGMT jamming away at a campus
Those days are gone. 😭

There is hope yet friend
Fully agree here with you .
Also into a lot of genres etc, but mainly electronic.
Also agree with the skilled comment also. Give me someone like Rex The Dog playing his synths live over any of the EDM that’s droned out .
You should spend some more time at festivals. There is always a new amazing sound right around the corner.
I saw them live in 2014, most disappointed I have ever been after a live performance
Why's that?
Because they sounded amazing, and OP only wants to witness shitty live performances
Sure
Was this performed at a white shirt contest?
This looks like a scene out of Trailer Park Boys.
At least this one seems to be close to being in sync. So many posts where it’s disgustingly off
it's funnier without sound
Please like this, I want to keep coming back
Oh shit, that actually M83?
MGMT, but yeah. This gets posted a lot
And this is why I’m a metalhead, I shall keep my mistake visible as punishment 🫡
This is actually the first time I’ve seen this one on this sub
As a fan of both MGMT and M83, I get why people mix em up lol
You can like more than one thing
Nico et Antho. Ils sont d Antibes, pas loin de chez moi.
such a nice tune
How many more times is this going to be posted
Before they knew what?
Before they knew they’d have a smash hit and go on to be an awesome Australian musicians.
Such a timeless song! Always a treat running into this one.
Like this video, but just can't get over the fact those women grinding their feet into college dorm dirt, you know they are still stained to this day.

I really loved this the first four million times it was posted.
This gets posted so much. Like it’s some legendary, all time classic song or something? It’s catchy track sure but what’s with the reposts?

This version definitely has more love and soul

So? What does that have to do with it being reposted all the time.
Just keep scrolling lad, won’t take up much of your day to scroll past it.
I’d never see that before so it I loved it
Really, out of all things i scroll past this one i would be the least disappointed to see.
Oh, sorry. The typical Reddit user is mid-20s to mid-30s and currently living in a country where the song did well. It's an easy hit of nostalgia.
I think you’re just online too much
