Welcome to /r/JapanTravelTips! Have a quick question about traveling in Japan? Want to share a tip or suggestion? Looking for broad recommendations? You've come to the right place!

Subreddit Rules

  • Japan Travel Tips is a place to ask questions and share advice about traveling in Japan. Posts not on topic or only related to general travel topics will be removed. This includes questions about airlines, flights, passports/entry into Japan, living in the country, working in the country, etc.
  • Posts must contain a title and body. While we allow vague/broad questions in our subreddit, all posts must contain both a title and a body. We do not allow title-only posts.
  • Fully researched and detailed itineraries should be posted in /r/JapanTravel. If you have a fully researched and detailed itinerary (daily activities for each day) and are looking for a review, please post in /r/JapanTravel. /r/JapanTravelTips is for more general questions or bare-bones itinerary posts.
  • We do not allow AMAs, self-published articles, vlogs, blogs, or any other kind of self-promotion in this sub, including esim codes. /r/JapanTravelTips sources information from tourists, so users can receive information provided from the entire community. Our goal is to provide a platform for this information without having to click through to an article or a video.
  • No AI-generated posts or comments allowed. Posts or comments containing AI-generated itineraries, information, or content will be removed. Because AI-generated content is often wrong or misleading, the mods reserve the right to remove posts or comments that seem like they are AI-generated, even if not explicitly stated. Please contact the moderators if you feel the removal was in error.
  • Standalone meet-up requests are not allowed in this subreddit. Please post all meet-up inquiries in the stickied thread in /r/JapanTravel.
  • Requests for assistance with bookings, ticket purchases, reservations, merchandise purchase requests, or other solicitation are prohibited. We suggest going through official channels and reputable resale vendors for items or tickets you'd like to purchase.
  • No meta posts about subreddit rules are allowed. Please send a modmail to /r/JapanTravelTips with problems or suggestions. Do not PM individual mods.
  • Be civil in posts and comments. Harassment of other users or mods, trolling, posting of users' personal information, repeated intentional rule breaking, bullying, racism/discrimination, or other general unsavory behavior will be met with bans.
  • This sub is PG-13, no exceptions. We do not allow posts regarding illegal, questionable, or sexually explicit behavior, including posts about illegal drugs, underage alcohol consumption, adult/18+ activities, sexual services, or working illegally.
  • No questions about visas/border policy allowed. We do not allow questions about how to get a visa, how to properly fill out the information for a visa, or why visas were denied. Please seek advice directly from your local consulate. Additionally, we do not allow discussion of border policy.

Posts may be removed/redirected at mod discretion.

Posting Advice

  • Have a simple suggestion or tip that can make someone's Japan vacation easier? Feel free to post about what you learned while traveling in Japan. Consider including information such as: the exact location or nature of your recommendation, what you found interesting about it, or who this might appeal to.
  • Looking for recommendations? Use a broad, discussion-based question to get some information for your trip. For example: "I'd like to check out some cafes in Tokyo, and I've seen a few neat places online but I want to know what you think. Has anyone tried [place], [other place], or [this place]? What else would you recommend?"
  • Have a quick question you think the community can answer? Try to be as detailed as possible with your question, including relevant information about your trip such as time of year, length, and cities you're visiting. If you're asking about a specific establishment or sight, include when you're going and how you're getting there. If you are asking about a problem, include details of what happened and where.
  • Search and research before posting to avoid repetitive topics, if possible. Search in this subreddit, check /r/JapanTravel, or use the JapanTravel wiki/FAQ to see if your topic is commonly discussed before posting.
